Guest Reviews
- Francis (10/5): Great location, nice room and friendly staff - Lovely location in Old Glossop, friendly staff and great breakfast. Nice room with view of church Nothing
- Brian (10/5): Great job Gary! I hope to be back soon! - Gary runs a very well organised establishment which puts the customer first.
The staff were so helpful and the food excellent!
- Lewis (10/5): -

- Shirley (8/5): The pub was just what we needed for our stay. The only down side was the breakfast was down the road - The breakfast was lovely. We were lucky the weather was dry. If it was raining I would not want to walk down for breakfast.
- Denise (6/5): -
- Cindy (7/5): Would have been exceptional if breakfast had been within the venue and the sitting tenant had been more considerate. - Nice room well presented. Good location. Breakfast was served at a partner pub a walk away.
The tenant above our room (1) had either the television or radio playing loudly until 1am then again at 6am sleeping was no an option. Not what I’d expected after such a long journey from Kent at £115.00 a night! Still waiting to hear from the manager after sending a report!
- Hilary (10/5): Lovely stay in Old Glossop - Breakfast good. Room large, warm and comfortable. Friendly staff
- Rob (6/5): Fine. I could hear quiz night in the pub but was no bother. I would suggest it to friends. - Nice place. There was a young gentleman who didn’t know how to check me in but after a short wait it was sorted when the owner (I presume) arrived.
- Sutton (9/5): -
- EttaDainty (9/5): Wonderful stay, great location for hiking. Super comfy bed! - Great location, and very friendly staff! Very comfy bed, and great shower. Very spacious room. We had no problem at all going down to their sister pub for breakfast (also had a curry there one evening upstairs which was great). Free parking just over the road in a little local carpark, very convenient. Nothing!
- Michael (1/5): Lovely property but totally unhelpful when I asked for return of a suit that I accidently left. - I left my suit trousers and waistcoat in the chest drawers of my room. Annoying for everyone but it happens. I called twice to ask if I could arrange a courier to pick them up. They said they would come back to me but nobody ever did. I wrote a note via Booking.com asking for my suit back. Nobody helped me. A real shame because otherwise it's a lovely property.
- Brian (3/5): Don't Go it's a shitshow of a b&b - Friendly staff on arrival Having to go to another pub for breakfast when it was advertised as breakfast included and arriving back at the pub on a Sunday evening when we were told they were open until 11pm and the bar area was shuttered off. Total shitshow
- Judith (9/5): -
- Paul (10/5): - When all four of us got there the bar tender could not have been more helpful.
We were all soaking from working inthe rain all day
He was so accommodating and looked after us all👍 Nothing
We all said that we would come back here rather than the soulless Travelodge 🕺

- Ole-Fredrik (10/5): -
- Janine (10/5): Friendly atmosphere, beautiful room with an equally beautiful location. The food was amazing as the people who served it - The room was lovely , food was great and the people were amazing Nothing . Internet WiFi played up but that’s because in a vally
- Teresa (10/5): -
- Barbara (10/5): Ticked all the boxes - Breakfast was ample. Location fine short distance from Bulls Head. No problem might have been not so good if pouring with rain Nothing

- Alan (10/5): -
- Wållgren (9/5): -
- Corinne (10/5): Great pub and good rooms, would stay again - Room was spacious and clean. Beds comfy and shower great
- Anthony McGovern (8/5): - The location in Old Glossop is lovely, very similar to a small Cotswold village.
Service at the bar and restaurant was very good and all the bar/restaurant was clean. Not much really but a good shampoo of the upstairs carpet wouldn't go amiss although this a minor thing and easily remedied.
- Deliddiard (7/5): -
- Kathy (10/5): Very good location and welcoming staff - Clean and quite large room. Very comfortable Could have done with a chair in the room
- Deb (9/5): - The room was very spacious with the biggest bed I have ever seen! Lovely window seat and opposite the church. Beautiful location. Good food. No parking on site but managed to get space in general car park.
- Katherine (10/5): - The location was fantastic in the heart of Old Glossop, which is really beautiful, and with access to beautiful countryside to walk or trail run.
Room was comfortable and clean. Had a good nights sleep.
The Bull, Queens Arms and Distant Hills Brewery plus Shepleys Cafe meant there were lots of very local eating options.
I had a great short break.
- Stanislava (10/5): Fab pub stay! Would stay again for sure. - Fabulous pub stay and great customer service!
We booked all 4 rooms upstairs and everyone was happy with their rooms. Breakfast is not located downstairs but in a pub nearby just down the hills. We had 3 breakfasts, 1st morning was very mediocre, not so tasty and quite poor looking but that improved on the 2nd and 3rd days.
- Emanuel (9/5): Superb -
- Pealing (5/5): Passable -
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely place, lovely area in old glossop, so quiet and peaceful. The owner went out of his way to allow us early check in as we were attending a family funeral. Lovely rooms, really clean. Lovely views out of the bedroom windows.
- Bruce (8/5): Very good -
- Louise (7/5): Great nights sleep - Very comfortable room. Great nights sleep. Lovely view from our room (2) Nothing
- Scotthedog (9/5): Great weekend in the Hifh Peaks. - Great location, just a 10 minute walk into town. A 5 min taxi ride from the train station.
Food excellent - the Sunday roast was amazing. Breakfast was served at their sister pub, which is literally a 30-second walk away and was amazing. The staff were super helpful, and nothing was too much
Highly recommended and would deffo stay there again. N/a
- Alan (7/5): Good -
- Colin (9/5): Superb -
- Dave (10/5): Exceptional -
- Penny (5/5): Very basic - Comfortable bed, good shower. Steep stairs to very basic room. A chair and mat or rug would have been appreciated. Breakfast was at another pub down the road. For the price it wasn't worth going up the stairs.
- Peter (7/5): Stay in May - Room was great. Beer good. Staff friendly. Food very average and 2 fish items, a special and a regular not available sadly.
- Baldwin (8/5): Great food and nice location - Great restaurant with some of the best food we’ve ever had in a pub. The room was cold and there was no hot water late at night.
- Rodger (7/5): Beautiful country pub with a warm welcome - Lovely old country pub, rooms are beautifully decorated and facilities are good Unfortunately the breakfast is served at a pub down the road and was really not good so we didn’t bother the second morning and chose to pay in Glossop for it. The shower is a little on the small side and would have liked to see a hairdryer. It would have also been nice to see some lighter choices on the food menu for lunch ie sandwiches etc.
- Jon (6/5): nice little spot - there was no breakfast - there was no staff - everthing was closed at 7.45am so I left
- Lynskey (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was good . Friendly staff
The bedroom was spotless . The shower was good . Can't find a fault . Nothing
- Robert (10/5): I would not hesitate to stay again - The breakfast was excellent and the staff very helpful and friendly I cannot say anything bad about my stay
- Christina (1/5): Bad - The location We did not stay although we had paid for two days in full. We arrived during the afternoon of 17 April to find the door to the accommodation closed and nobody responded to the bell. We waited and waited and eventually a young girl came and opened the door. She could not check us in as she didn't know how to so she was going to contact her boss who was at another venue. Eventually someone arrived and asked us to pay £225 in payment for our room. We were quite alarmed to hear after this that we would have to go to another pub down the hill for breakfast each morning. We are both in our mid 70's and this was not ideal for our morning breakfast. We were then shown to our room. In our confirmation from Booking.com it clearly states that the room is a deluxe twin bed room, with view, carpeted, wardrobe or closet/ The room we were given was very spartan, no comfort, it had a view of the bins and the steps to the pub cellar, no carpeting and two hangers on a temporary hook on the back of the door, clearly not complying with the description in our confirmation email. I did not want to use the toilet either! I went down to talk to I think the person who was the proprietor or manager and asked if we could have another room as this was not what we had expected. He was very insistent that because I had washed my hands in the bathroom (ie used the bathroom) this was not possible, he was very offhand and frankly insulting asking me what I expected from an B &B. I was very shaken and tearful, my husband and I decided we could not stay under these circumstances and feeling so intimidated and left without using the room apart from washing my hands! We are really upset about the whole experience, we had come to visit our family, our grandchildren and did not expect to be treated in this way by the Bulls Head.
- Jane (10/5): Great short break; ideal location for walking - Very clean and comfortable. Great pub and good food. Very friendly staff!
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Angela (7/5): Good value basic hotel - This is a good value hotel in a good location. It had just been refurbished. Breakfast was very basic.
- Nick (4/5): Disappointing -
- Lois (10/5): A lovely stay again. Thank you. I will be back in May. - A lovely breakfast each morning. Amazing staff. So kind and friendly. This really is an amazing place to stay. I am a regular visitor. I have family in the area and it just works. Lesley and all the staff are just brilliant. There is absolutely nothing I dislike!
- David (8/5): Much more than adequate - Lesley was great, comfortable room Food not available on Tues
- Wairs (9/5): Superb -
- Nia (7/5): Lovely building - Staff really lovely Nothing
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional - Staff are really friendly, very welcoming. Breakfast was great!
- Maria (6/5): Location was good, room pleasant but I would be put off booking again after being woken by the staff so early. - The member of staff that met us was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable We were woken at 6.30 by someone walking heavily up and done outside our room and banging about in the storage room next to us - this went on for some time and we were unable to go back to sleep - we’d had a late night so really needed a bit of a lay in. We think it was a cleaner.
- Andy (10/5): A really nice, quiet overnight stay in a very comfortable room. - Had several stays here going back over 7 or 8 years, so that tells it all really. Situated in a lovely quiet part of Glossop, overlooking a church and churchyard so it's pretty quiet. Staff are friendly and cheerful on arrival, and gave information about the local area. De-luxe double room was large and warm, and bed was very comfy. Shower and toilet were clean.
Breakfast was served in the Queens Arms, literally a short 100m walk down from the Bulls Head. Excellent Full English Breakfast, along with cereal and gluten free alternatives should you prefer. Served by really nice staff, cheerful and chatty. I've stayed several times now, and each time I've left extremely satisfied after my stay. So I can honestly say that there is nothing which I dislike.
- Daniel (10/5): Lovely one night stay - We had a lovely stay in the charming bedroom above the pub, which we liked very much. However, there are a couple of points we feel need addressing:
1. A staff member informed us that breakfast was served at 9 am, but it was actually at 8 am. Unfortunately, this meant we missed it.
2. While we appreciate that the hotel is dog-friendly (a significant factor for us), the information in the bedroom states that dogs are not allowed on furniture, and there may be a £50 charge if this rule is not followed. This policy should be made clear to guests at the time of booking to avoid any misunderstandings.
Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, but these minor issues could improve the clarity and convenience for future guests.
- Andy (10/5): Great stay, comfortable room, excellent breakfast. - Have stayed several times before. Each time never disappoints. Staff have always been welcoming and cheerful, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. I've found it to be in a quiet location during the weekdays I've stayed there.
The Full English Breakfast is well cooked and presented, and is served in the Queens Arms which is a short couple of minutes walk away. I've already booked my next stay. Personally, I'd really like a slightly earlier weekday check-in time, but the 4pm time is just about ok.
- Andrew (10/5): Fantastic stay at a lovely place. Staff were absolutely brilliant and helped anyway they could . - Lovely large room..
- Martin (1/5): Bad - Stayed there with my 19-year-old son for 2 nights. The hotel is in a pretty part of Glossop, and it is unfortunate that I cannot give it a better review.
The room was noisy, the walls must have been quite thin as everything going on in the pub downstairs could be clearly heard.
The pub kitchen extractor fan was in a cupboard in our room and made a loud whining noise. fortunately, this was turned off around 2130 each night.
The ensuite bathroom layout was such that an average sized person had to sit sideways on the toilet.
The TV remote didn’t work. The staff and the manager could not fix it and the rather old TV on the wall had to be worked using the buttons on the top. It was clear that this remote had not been paired with the TV; however, we found the actual, branded TV remote under the bed when we were doing our final checks before leaving.
The worst part of the stay is that we were refused breakfast on the first morning of our stay at 0910. We were told we should have been to the ‘sister’ pub which served breakfast by 0830. I asked the manager could anything be arranged (i.e. tea, toast cereal etc) in lieu of a cooked breakfast and he refused.
- Jacqui (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, lovely old pub. Clean, tidy and comfortable room. All great
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andy (10/5): For me, there is nothing which could have made the stay better. I will definitely be booking again. - Have stayed at the Bulls Head before, and didn't hesitate to book again. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable, with a lovely outlook over the church.
After a peaceful and restful night's sleep, we had a short walk of 100 yards to breakfast served in the Queens Arms. Another really nice pub, with a friendly, warm welcome and a good choice for breakfast. The Full English was well cooked, hot and well presented.
- Cox (1/5): Overshadowed by the supper over charge - There’s a complaint in the system and for whatever reason between this hotel and booking.com, I have now paid plus £200 for a less than £100 room. I’m having to fight for my money back which is actually a joke when I paid twice to help all parties with the booking issue. The bar staff were very helpful and supportive of the payment issue.
- Jo (8/5): Lovely friendly stay with brilliant surrounding walks - Lovely rooms Breakfast was at a different pub
- Debbie (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (5/5): ok, but won't be back - Had to walk down the road for breakfast!
- Donna (7/5): Good - there wasn't enough parking space
- Jenny (9/5): Superb -
- Jennifer (9/5): Everything under one roof - Good location, lovely pub selling food. Very friendly, helpful staff. Facilities were adequate plus a good breakfast was included 👍 The key to room 4 was very difficult. That's about it.
- Paul (9/5): A thoroughly enjoyable two night stay and would certainly book again. - Welcoming staff . room clean and well stocked with tea ,coffee and biscuits etc. Bar serving a full range of beers.
Breakfast served in a partnership hotel a short distance away, and was excellent.
- Irene (9/5): Very pleased with the room and staff great - Beautifully cooked good choice
- Madeleine (10/5): Comfortable stay with all you could need in beautiful location - Beautifully decorated, comfortable rooms above pub - outstanding and attentive staff. Great breakfasts including veggie options.
- David (8/5): A very pleasant hotel and we may well return to walk - Room and dinner was very good
- Elaine (5/5): Old and tired Inn. In need of a good refurbishment and energy - Beautiful location Empty, confusing check in. Breakfast served at a different location
- Beryl (8/5): Great place to stay - The breakfast was typical English with plenty of choice. The staff were most friendly and helpful at all times. Nothing was too much trouble. The food we had in the evening was most enjoyable and well presented. General cleanliness was excellent. The wardrobe door creaked!
- Shaun (8/5): Worth the diversion off the Pennine Way. Taxi fair back up for the start of the next day was cheap. - Friendly welcome. You have to go down the hill to a local pub for food, but it’s worth it. No face cloth for personal hygiene.
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gill (7/5): Was ideal for what we needed - Convenient, clean Had to go for breakfast elsewhere
- Diane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diane (10/5): Very enjoyable stay - Flexible check in. Room very comfortable situated in the lovely area of old Glossop. Staff were very friendly and we'd certainly stay here again. I would have preferred that breakfast was not so early and that it was served in the hotel. Having said that, the 5 mins walk to the hotel where breakfast was being provided was not an inconvenience and was a nice way to begin the day.
- Dorinho (7/5): Good beer, nice location - Food good, beer excellent (and a wide choice). Very attractive stone building located in a quaint part of Old Glossop. Staff friendly and service good. Room walls are thin: we had the misfortune to be next to a couple of women who moaned loudly about the world and sang out of tune until about 1a.m. despite us asking them to be quiet. But they probably won't still be there when you visit.
- Elizabeth (8/5): This was a lovely old pub in the pretty little village of Old Glossop -
- Daniels (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanna (4/5): Dirty and disappointing - Breakfast was average, but improved as the week went on, A change of towels would have been welcome, I asked for the wobbly toilet to be looked at and nobody bothered, had huge cobwebs in the far corner of the bedroom, sticky floor in the en suite
Outside the window it was a flat roof and it was a dumping ground, old palates, dead Christmas tree
Old table and chairs.
- Paul (9/5): Friendly Atmosphere - Warm welcome, all of the staff were great. Good location, good old pub, clean, breakfast was good and was decent value for money. Bed in Room 3 was a little too firm, room slightly on the small side.
- Lois (10/5): Exceptional - Landlady so welcoming and kind. The view. Didn't really have one.
- Joanna (10/5): couldn’t of asked for more , the best hotel i’ve stayed in . - lovely and clean , lovely breakfast and friendly staff
- David (9/5): Comfy historic inn in Old Glossop - Amazing location in heart of beautiful historic village. Comfortable, private, spacious room. Nice staff. Staying in the pub, you feel welcomed into village life. Wonderful walking on the doorstep. Nothing at this price
- John (9/5): A lovely room in the oldest pub in Old Glossop - We really liked our stay here. The room was quite large with a comfortable very large bed, a good sized TV and reasonaby speedy wifi. The shower was not the largest but was a reasonable size and produced a constant stream of water that had a steady temperature. Most importantly, it was very clean. The room is in the oldest pub in Old Glossop and consequently had a quirky side to it in that it wasn't totally level or square - my loose change rolled off the table because of it's slope! This was fine for us as it added to the "flavour" of the place. The pub itself has 4 or 5 separate small rooms to it making it cozy and a good place to relax in. The room was on the 1st floor and the view from our window was of the church opposite. Not the most scenic but not a brick wall and pleasant enough. Our breakfast was in the Queens Arms, it's sister pub, a less than 5 minute walk down the hill. This was a typically large and delicious selection of a Full English Breakfast, with juice and cereal "starters".
The pub does not have it's own car park but there is a reasonably sized free public car park 1 minute walk away. Although used by locals and visitors to the pub, we didn't have any problem finding a parking space each of the times we returned.
Unlike other reviewers, we found all the staff very friendly and helpful.
The pub is in a quiet part of Glossop away from the main town. It is a bit of a walk, but not all that long, and there is a lovely park on the way. We would definitely stay there again. The important thing we didn't realise was that, although a pub, the property didn't open until 4pm. We did see the check-in time was 4pm but just assumed that, as it was a pub, we could arrive and sit in the pub while we waited for our room to be ready. This wasn't an option though. This is not meant as a complaint as the check-in time is clear. Maybe it would help prospective guests if the listing made it clear that the building is closed until check-in.
The only minor issue with our room was that there was nowhere in the shower cubical to rest shampoo or soap etc. Some sort of tray would have been helpful.
Although we didn't mind it's location, the pub is at the top of Glossop, so can be a strenuous walk up the hill for some people and, since our room was on the 1st floor, the stairs could be quite steep.
- Sean (7/5): nice location in old glossop town - nice area of old glossop food ie dinner and breakfast served in seperate premises
