Guest Reviews
- Amber (10/5): - Very nice little room with everything we needed for one night's stay. The Manager was really helpful, including giving us a lift to the wedding evening do which was really appreciated. We were also offered a free breakfast which was a great touch. Its a lovely country pub with rooms. Woukd definitely return.
- Lyn (8/5): Hotel stay or camping - Lovely staff the new manager is very enthusiastic and I am sure he and the new owner will make lots of changes going forward. It’s a lovely old building just a bit tired but clean and lots of parking and in a good spot to access lots of places. Very good value for money and good meals available in the evenings
- Daniel (10/5): Great food - Great welcome amazing food room was lovely but hall carpet was a bit worn in upstairs hall and steel stairs to the room very steep
- David (8/5): - Good value for money hotel ,cheap and cheerful
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Bed too hard for my hips.
Room 12 too near the air conditioning fans, should have brought earplugs.
- Dot (4/5): - Shower too small husband got stuck in the door . Xx
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel, grounds etc were really lovely. The room was very basic, the bed was not very comfortable at all it could do with replacing you could feel the springs through the matress. The bathroom shower doors did not close properly .
- Verified traveler (4/5): Tired grubby rooms - Tired and grubby rooms, nice food in the restaurant the only redeeming feature. Rooms need a complete overhaul and though clean
- Kate (10/5): - Stayed here for 3 nights do a conference locally and it was perfect. Friday enjoyed a beautiful meal in the restaurant. Staff went above and beyond. Very approachable if I had any questions. Looking forward to coming back next year!
- Neal (6/5): Lovely Pub - This was a lovely pub with friendly staff and great food and i would recommend eating here.
I would stay somewhere else though, the room was basic, the heating did eventually come on, when i checked in i was told that they don't offer breakfast in the week which isn't very helpful when you have already booked.
- D (6/5): - The food was amazing, we would recommend the restaurant to anyone. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. However, we did not appreciate having to use an outside, open, staircase to access the room. I am terrified of heights and was terrified. Not pleased to have to go outside if it rained. The shower was only just useable, low pressure: the basin was so small the if you leant forward to clean your teeth you bashed your head off the glass shelf. There was nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. There was no way to control the room temperature and it got far too hot. The beds though were wonderful. Not having breakfast on the Monday was a surprise and a let down. Still worth a visit though as any upgrading is still a work in progress. We wish them luck.
- Lyn (10/5): - A lovely welcome and everyone during our stay were lovely. We stayed in the outside annexe so can’t comment on more internal rooms. These rooms were clean and well equipped just are ready for a refurb which judging from the rest of the property will be done I am sure. Still very worth a visit the restaurant was amazing
- Ann (10/5): - Extremely friendly. Nothing seemed too much trouble.
Very attentive.
- Steve (6/5): - Public areas were great and full of character. Staff were friendly and the bar stocked a good selection of beers. The accommodation however is tired and in need of refurbishment.
- Jill (8/5): - Nice room and excellent staff.
- Jennifer (8/5): - It was a convenient location for where we were going. The room was adequate but could have done with a makeover. Breakfast was not until 9.30 so too late for us. The rickety wooden staircase upstairs was hard to negotiate for us over a certain sge - when leaving, we found there was an outside metal staircase.
- David (6/5): - Car parking is both ample and free of charge.
Pleasant and large outdoor seating area Bar/restaurant is very charming and cosy with nice olde worlde features. Staff were all lovely and service good. Wholesome well cooked and nicely presented food at reasonable prices.
We stayed for one night in Room 12. Generally it was okay, but the shower room was in desperate need of some cosmetic tlc. The shower gave a decent flow of hot water, but the sliding cubicle doors didn't meet/join where they're supposed to!
The worst aspect however was the very loud creaking floor board noises caused by the guests in room above moving around. Sadly this ruined what otherwise would have been a peaceful night's sleep.
- Scott (10/5): Cushty - Very comfortable and friendly staff
- Scott (10/5): Cushty - Very comfortable and friendly staff
- Jeremy (10/5): - Had a lovely look about it with the beams i inside. Lots of room plenty of food choice complements to the staff and chief. Overall really enjoyed our stay
- Trevor (10/5): Great place to stop off. - Was a great place for an overnight stay. My only potential issue was the 10pm cut-off for checking in. In theory I needed to get there nearer 11pm, but as it happenedon the day various health factors meant I was well inside 10pm.
- Alison (10/5): Great place to stay - Great place to stay in a quiet location but near to Peterborough. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was spacious with tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was ensuite with a shower.
We had an evening meal which was fantastic, very good sized portions. Would highly reccomend and will definately stay again.
- Rob (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay at the Wishing Well. Sam and her team were wonderful hosts, accommodating our requests and additional requirements with a smile. Dining options in the pub were very good, and we enjoyed getting our whole family together on one evening. Thanks for accommodating us, we look forward to returning again some time in the future
- wendy (10/5): One night stopover - Lovely location..staff friendly..room nice but bed was bit hard for me didnt eat there but menu looked nice .beer garden had amazing view
- martin (6/5): - Great service, food ok but rooms need an urgent update.
Very noisy between ground and upper floors.
- Adrian (6/5): - The decline of the Wishing Well is under way. It's easy to see that just a few years ago, perhaps before the current owners took over in 2020, it was better, but from an accommodation perspective it is past any prime it may have had. The rooms are unclean. I had to wash even the (mismatched) coffee cups before use - they still had liquid coffee in them. The shower was grubby, with mould-blackened grout and some former users hand-marks on the controller. It delivered only a faint impression of water. Paintwork is peeling, and a Henry hoover, which blocked the narrow hallway (and therefore the fire exit), was left on display as if to say "yes, we do clean this (badly moth-eaten) hallway carpet". The food at dinner was good (the chewy chips notwithstanding), and the excellent chef - who was in the kitchen when our server commented negatively on the man's ethnicity - was the only staff member present the next day at 9:00, an hour into the breakfast service. Two others arrived in due course to support him, and to explain to us that the kitchen was devoid of breakfast cereals (except Rice Krispies and Cocoa Puffs), marmalade, Earl Grey tea, croissants, and multiple other breakfast standards. Apologies we're made, at least. The rooms were only £85 each, but we expect cleanliness at any price.
- E (4/5): Poor and overpriced - Check in was average… room location was poor. Access via a fire escape (not recommended for those who dislike heights nor anyone wearing heels - death trap!). Room itself was in desperate need of updating. Duvet thin which was a problem as fire escape door is open all the time and one window was too warped to shut. For me, as a single female traveler, was told this was because all the rain had caused the door to swell but previous reviewer also mentions this. I had issues with both security and temperature. Second night I rolled up towel and used as a draft excluder. Tea and coffee making facilities provided but if there were two guests in the double room, you would have to boil kettle twice as cuts only possible to fill it a third full due to tiny size of sink. The shower tray was chipped and the bathroom fairly manky. Only one bedside table had a lamp. Bed reasonably comfortable.
Bar/restaurant nice but I returned with friend after spending 6 hours outside to be told “no hot drinks because lunch is over so I’m cleaning the machine… if I make you a hot drink it’ll taste like cleaning fluid!”
No breakfast available at all… this is apparently temporary. But there is no one on site from 10pm until the bar opens.
Definitely not worth £80/night.
- H (4/5): Great pub, terrible accommodation - The staff were lovely and the pub itself nice. The room though was awful.
I'm no light sleeper, but the noise from the other rooms was very loud. Room itself was in poor condition, dusty and the bed uncomfortable.
- Nicholas (8/5): - The staff were really welcoming, but no-one was on duty when I left. I handed the room key to the cleaner who spoke no English. The downstairs room I was in was not well insulated from noise in the room upstairs.
- Michael (8/5): - Nice place to stay with good food. Rooms dated and quite small. Good WIFI and easy parking. Very friendly staff.
- ali (8/5): Lovely stop over - Lovely pub, greeting, evening meal and village. Room in need of refurbishment which is planned. A little noisy upstairs. Will certainly call again.
- Guy (8/5): -
- Charles (6/5): - Very nice traditional Pub stay. Active and well appreciated kitchen. Pleasant, friendly clientele.
- Michael (8/5): - Hot water was lacking in the ensuite bathrooms. Otherwise excellent.
- Tony (4/5): Give it a miss - I'd read the reviews before booking and although some said it needed updating these were in the minority so I took a chance. I should have listened.
The positives was that the bed was comfortable giving a good nights sleep and the shower was good as well.
Everything else left a lot to be desired. The room is very basic to the extreme, no fridge, no wardrobe. The room is the very definition of sparse. When asked about breakfast we were given a list to choose from and told they didn't do hot breakfasts during the week. What I hadn't expected that it would be placed in a broken paper bag and placed on the window ledge outside the room. I only noticed it as I stepped outside at 10.30 at night when I saw it.
Also from a (lack of) safety point of view the door leading to the fire escape is left open all night.
All in all, I can't recommend The Wishing Well which is a disappointment as I remember coming here many years earlier for a wedding receiption and the food then was great.
The following night we spent in Central London near to Tottenham Court Road and the cost wasn't that much more than here
- Simon (8/5): - Really nice local pub feel. Rooms, or bathrooms could possibly do with an update, but on a whole, great stay.
- Mike (6/5): - No hot water
- Keith (4/5): - Unsecure.fire exit open 24/7 for access. Tv no signal.very weak shower. No wardrobe. Cupboard or drawers for clothes..very strange!breakfast doesn’t start until 08.0 sat and sun.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful food, wonderful staff. but the room was a bit pokey and next to a well used door of the pub so quite noisy unfortunately.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Breakfast wasn’t David expected but apart from that all’s ok
- Donna (2/5): So bad we didnt stay. - We decided to have lunch before checking in. The service and food was so bad we actually left and booked another hotel. The staff we didinterested and aloof. The food was overcooked but cold! When it was pointed out there was no concern at all. The covid regulations were not being followed, tables too close together and one way system doors locked. The service and food was so bad we decided not to stay and booked another hotel elsewhere. I would not reccomend this establishment at all. Asked if we wanted anything with our food, yes a knife and fork please! This is a simple country pub trying to be an upmarket establishment and doing it very badly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff at The Wishing Well were top notch! It's a lovely pub/hotel with really nice food. It's a bit of a hike into Bourne (maybe 45 minutes?) but there are loads of footpaths if you like walking. The bed wasn't that comfy, but that's about the only thing I can fault. Salvatore and the staff more than made up for it with their hospitality! We had a very enjoyable stay!
- Richard (6/5): - Change the bed. So uncomfortable with more lumps than Scott’s porridge oats!
- Julie (10/5): Pleasant stay - thank-you! - Stayed here with family for a funeral.
Due to covid restrictions we could not sit inside hotel or have a proper breakfast but the outside area was very pleasant. Blankets were supplied by the hosts when it got rather chilly in the evening. A pizza camper van was a nice little bonus when we arrived.
The hosts 'Sav' and co were extremely friendly and welcoming. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was supplied in brown paper bags- cereal bars, croissant, orange juice etc which although not ideal suited us fine.
Would definately stay here again to experience the inn as it should be.
- Mark (10/5): 1 night stay - Booked for 1 night stay.
Upon our arrival, John was there with our key ready.
Directions to the room given and Breakfast arrangements made.
Next morning we were treated to a superb breakfast.
very enjoyable stay.
- Peter (10/5): Your wish will come true. - A small olde world Inn, full of character without being fancy. For travellers with mobility problems there is entry to bedrooms direct from the car park, much appreciated. Far enough out of Bourne to be quiet, yet close enough for easy access.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We only stayed one night so judgement is probably a bit unfair. Neither the television or the wifi worked.
The beds were very comfortable with good bed linen. Breakfast was a bit haphazard but there was a very new member of staff on duty.
All the staff were very friendly and as helpful as possible.
- Richard (8/5): Great stay - Polite welcoming staff.
Had a good night sleep, comfortable stay.
Had a full English breakfast could not fault it there was so much was not able to finish.
I will stay again when in area.
- Sarah (6/5): Wishing for a better bed! - The bedroom was bright and clean but the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Food seemed a little hit and miss, one great meal, one quite poor. Not much choice for breakfast unless you want full English, would have been nice to have cereals other than cornflakes and coco pops and some choices of fruit/yogurt/ croissants etc. The surrounds were lovely however and there was loads of character.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely stay great food and atmosphere - Really enjoyed my stay here. I was working nearby. the location is idyllic in a small quaint village not actually in Bourne centre but a short walk away. Plenty of parking, nice gardens and views. Behind looked to be a camping site. Food was incredible evening meal plenty of choice bistro pub type food and full English breakfast quality produce. Limited choice for continental maybe a selection of yoghurts and fruit would of been nice. The old exterior creeks but adds o the character. Friendly staff and a pleasant stay. Room looked onto the garden a fair size clean and great large TV.
- Frazer (10/5): Great stay at the Wishing well Inn - We stayed one night for a festival and the one of the staff welcomed us nicely and one of them waited up till mid night to let us in which was much appreciated, breakfast was lovely especially the sausages
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I had a last minute stay at The Wishing Well, I was pleasantly surprised as some of the reviews picked fault with the staff, wi-fi and the rooms. My experience was that whilst the room was basic it was clean and the bed was comfortable, I had no issue connecting to the wi-fi, but I had a full 4g signal without this so it wouldn't have been an issue anyway! The staff were all friendly and very helpful. The food was superb, service was prompt, and the prices reasonable, and although on arrival I was told that they were struggling for tables, they seated me without issue or pre-booking. Overall I was quietly impressed, my only issue would be noise from the pub downstairs, but this is more due to the lack of insulation in a building which is old, so not sure what could be done to improve this. Well worth the money. Glad I booked.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Old style Coaching Inn with good vibe and Real Ales.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - lovely atmosphere, welcoming staff, car parking. nice breakfast
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly and helpful staff, clean room, comfy bed& good shower.
- Verified traveler (6/5): good points and bad points. - On arrival the staff were really nice and got checked in quickly, it was late so dumped my stuff and went to eat in the pub. the food was fantastic which was good as it distracted me away from not having any phone signal and the WiFi didn't reach to where i was sitting.
once done i asked for the wifi code and went back to the room, the code kept saying wrong so back i went again, this time it connected straight away, walked back to the room and once again disconnected and wrong password turns out they have a booster that noone knows the password for!
the room was basic and smelled like a branch of LUSH as they had a plug in spay going (quickly turned off). the TV was old and dated with the remote not working correctly so you had to press so hard to change the channel i just gave up!
in the morning the breakfast was great as expected from the food the night before.
i would say if you on business avoid this hotel if you need to do some work and be in contact with the outside world, if you want to get away and enjoy good food give it a go
- Clive (4/5): Historic pub in Lincolnshire village - Very variable, depending which staff happened to be on duty. Check in was very slow as the two ladies seemed unfamiliar with the computeris3d system.
Problems connecting with WIFI though eventually managed to connect to a very slow service. Room was too small to be comfortable. Bathroom was very small too and not as clean as it might have been. Mould in the shower, hair on the floor etc. The shower head dripped annoyingly and had to be taken down and placed on the base.
Breakfast was grim on the first day as the waitress seemed all at sea. Some staff training neede perhaps? There was no fruit or yoghurt and the pub ran out of eggs. Second day much better with a waitress who knew what she was doing though still no fresh fruit.
TV broke down on both nights that we stayed.
Evening meal was of mediocre quality and overpriced.
On our first night we had to put up with a very noisy gathering in one of the lower rooms. The noise insulations generally was very poor.
We have stayed at B and Bs all over the world and foind this one very disappointing
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent range of food served in the evenings. Room was comfortable.
