- Matthew (9/5): Nice clean property. Safe plenty of space easy access to cycle paths and on bus route - Free parking. Walking distance into Mechelen centre (30 minutes). Connie the host was great and helpful Not much around close by I.e. bars/shops and restaurants.
- van der Pol (8/5): -
- Ellen (6/5): Slechte accomodatie.

Niveau propreté : absolument rien a dire!

- Lloyd (9/5): Perfect for a visit to Mechelen - The hotel is just a short walk or bus journey into Mechelen or the train station and it also very close to an Aldi. Brussels, Antwerp and Leuven etc are easily accessible from Mechelen station. My room was very comfortable. The location of the hotel which is just off a main road was very quiet and I was able to sleep very well.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Absolutely nothing.
- Alisa (10/5): Exceptional - Nice and cosy family hotel. Missis Van Malcot is very helpful and prepares a delicious breakfast. The place is close to the Zoo and gives and opportunity to discover the beautiful countryside near Mechelen. We highly recommend it!
- Matt (9/5): Superb -
- Darren (10/5): Perfect if you’re on your own for a weekend and just want to chill. Recommended. - Great hosts, nice location and I had the best room. Breakfast was great, egg and bacon were perfect. I would have liked more variety on the cereals.
- Michael (8/5): Very good - The hotel was well located for my visit to Mechelen. The room was clean and spacious and there was a good range of international TV stations available on the television. I was especially pleased with how quiet the room was at night no noise from outside enabling a good restful sleep.
- Gerreke (8/5): Very good -
- Emilia (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (8/5): A pleasant stay in a charming building, although we were disturbed during the night - The hotel is in a quiet suburb, although it has considerable grounds of its own which gives the impression of being in the countryside when one is inside. The lady on reception was very helpful, and as the hotel has no evening restaurant, she kindly booked us into a restaurant a few minutes away in the car. Our room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was of good quality and with a nice view out over the grounds. The building seems old and has considerable charm. The hotel entrance on the road is not lit up, which made the sign hard to find in the dark. The grounds are neglected and run down, although this does not affect the inside of the hotel, which is in good condition. There is nowhere to eat immediately close to the hotel if you need some supper. There is also no tea or coffee in the room.
We were disturbed in the middle of the night by someone coming up the fire escape and shining a torch into our room: they were calling out and seemed to be trying to get in. Either there were no staff in the hotel, or they did not know what was going on. Note: this disturbance was not the hotel's fault, but the lack of available staff meant that there was no-one to stop it.
- Dominique (9/5): Superb -

- Beatriz (9/5): Superb -
- Remco (8/5): Very good -
- Pavla (9/5): Superb - Nice and quiet place not so far from city center.
- Stefan (8/5): Nice and clean, quiet location and close to Mechelen - Nice and clean, quiet location close to Mechelen. Friendly staff. Good value for the money.
- Jose (1/5): Bad - That booking.com supported us very well despite a horrific experience.
That they provide towels. Very outdated hotel, doubt that this is 3 stars. Would be great if this can be checked. See room pictures and other reviews. Also very far from the center of Mechelen.
Very rude host, who sent us away before we could stay here even though we paid. Because we asked if we needed to pack towels (full story see google reviews).
House was completely closed and no one answered the door when we arrived. Except for later a barking dog and later an extremely rude and blunt host.
You can see responses to other reviews here to give you an image of the hosts attitude and interaction. Never an acknowledgement of the host side in bad experiences, never an apology or any other professional response. Always a blame towards the guests. The host told us she didn't want a bad review on booking and that was the reason for denying us entry to the ready paid hotel. Also left us completely alone in how to pro end with refunds/last minute cancellations mentioning we should figure it out with booking.com. Clearly the host did not want booking.com guests, which is surprising as hotels can choose to partner or not...
Also important to mention all this happen on Christmas eve and my wife was pregnant, although it sounds poetic that Maria and José (mine and my wife name) didn't had a place to stay on Christmas eve the reality of it is far from pleasant.
- ClaireW3570 (2/5): Left in the cold after being called ridiculous - We were supposed to stay at hotel Malcot from December 24 until 26 during Christmas, but were sent away before we could check in. A pregnant lady sent out on the street on Christmas eve.
In the morning I called to ask some questions about facilities, to which I could not find the answer in the property description. I wondered whether towels and soap were provided, whether there was breakfast, and whether we could check in later than the mentioned time. I thought these would be appropriate questions for a hotel. However, when I asked my first question, the lady (receptionist/owner) responded in a snide tone ‘well of course, we are a 3* hotel. We have big towels and small towels. And little soaps. And there is a bed in the room’ and then she laughed. At me, that was clear. Then I tried to continue with my other questions but the lady kept listing things in the room which I did not ask about (‘we have a trash can’) and kept laughing. I said I thought she was laughing at me and that for now it seemed best to hang up and that we would see each other later for the reservation. Then I hung up. At least I knew not to pack towels and soap and the rest I would figure out. You maybe can imagine that I did not feel quite welcome after this interaction. But ok, we reserved and already paid so let’s try to make the most of it.
When we arrived, the doors were locked, a dog came barking behind the door. We rang the doorbell, no answer. We called, after a while a lady opened the door. She asked ‘ah are you the ones who called this morning’. I thought maybe an apology would follow but instead the lady pointed out how ridiculous she thought the question was again, while we walked to the reception for check in. She said again they are 3* so of course it is a strange question and asked if I was ever in a hotel where they didn’t provide towels. Actually that is indeed the case and I responded indeed there were many different kinds of hotels. But my answer did not seem to matter, she was asking rhetorically and continued to try to get me to understand how ridiculous my question had been. I felt very uncomfortable and said I thought it was not a strange question to ask a hotel. But this seemed to agitate her. I asked if please could we maybe not continue the conversation as I was uncomfortable and there did not seem to be a solution. Then she got angry, raised her voice, and said ‘I don’t want this sh** here. You need to leave. Get out.’ multiple times. I was surprised but after a few times of her saying this did not know what to do so just assumed we would have to leave indeed, even though we already paid and had no back-up. I asked about this; ‘will we get our money back, because normally there is such a thing as a cancellation period but we had no say in this cancellation so it should be a full refund?’ And she responded it was none of her business and that we would have to sort it out ourselves. That she doesn’t want ‘that sh**’ here.
I have never before experienced being denied entry to a hotel. Especially not because I asked about facilities, a hotel related question and very appropriate. Especially not without any information on a refund, or without any back up. Being left in the streets.
So please please please do not stay here if you expect a professional and kind treatment from the host.
And if you are planning on staying here, make sure to call first to check if they have towels… you’ll be able to see whether you feel welcome or not for yourself.
Furthermore, to stay in overall reviewing spirits, the location is not very good (25 min walking from the station and 10 min more to the center of Mechelen) and the rooms seem quite outdated in the pictures.
Oh and on our way out she said something about not wanting bad reviews on booking.com and that this was also a reason for not letting us stay there. So it might very well be that this has happened to others before, but that you cannot see their opinions for the same reason.
- Lieve (8/5): Very good -
- Jo (8/5): Personal, almost like coming home. - Because it is a relative small hotel, the welcome was very personal and warm. I had a nice conversation with the lady of the hotel and loved the park-like environment. It is not in the centre of Mechelen, but you can still walk to the centre in 30 minutes.
- Luca (9/5): Peaceful place near the city :) - Staff are super nice, very clean room and the breakfast was different every day! the position is a bit far away from the center, if
you have a car it’s perfect but we didn’t have.
- 388arekw (8/5): Good bed and breakfast hotel - Very good breakfast with traditional meals. Room are quite big and hotel is localized near the center of the Mechelen. I was on a business trip so I only go back to hotel to sleep. Very, very nice owner of this hotel.
- mairm2016 (6/5): Its basic, clean, set in lovely grounds - location just off a main road set in a delightful county like settings. Rooms are basic but clean. however point of warning it has a bath/shower if you are short of stature like me its is hard to access and the bath is slippery no dimples to stop you slipping. which i was unlucky to do causing me a very nasty cut lip, bruising on my legs and arms. SO be careful. My husband suggests they change the rooms to a walk in showers as they told us all the rooms were the same.
- McGmanGla (8/5): Generally fine - I had a nice enough stay here. I came by bicycle and would have liked the option to leave it inside but I imagine not many people come by bike. The welcome was professional but not really warm (I think they get a lot of business travellers). The room was small but fine with a good bathroom. I think in terms of price, 87 euros for a single room with breakfast on a Wednesday night in Mechelen is perhaps a little steep.
- expat_egb (8/5): Calm and friendly - I stayed here 3 nights while visiting friends who live nearby. It is outside of the city of Mechelen, but within easy biking and walking distance. It is more of a B&B than a hotel, with only 10 rooms, and a very relaxed feel to it. Breakfast is continental style. The rooms are clean, the beds and pillows are comfy and the showers are great! It would be hard to have a family stay here but the owners will try to accommodate you as best they can. Loads of TV channels to explore and help you brush up on your Dutch. The owners are very nice and welcoming. And they have an amazing dog! I will definitely stay here again in the future. If you are looking for a quiet hotel, this is for you. If you are looking for a place close to the nightlife, then probably not!
- 618riccardoc (8/5): one night stay - I was there for one night only
the rooms are nice and clean
the breakfast is good
an interior side garden is fantastic
the only problem is the WiFi: sometimes goes sometimes doesen't go
anyway I think it's a nice stay
- richevanscs (8/5): A Belgian Oasis in Mechelen - Since we were early, we were given Room One in this fascinating manse and grounds, surprisingly not far from the central rail station. We were met by Luke, proprietor and owner with his wife Connie, and the newest member of the family, Bella, a friendly German Shepherd who is quickly endearing. There is ample parking on the premises and the yard is unusually extensive given the location, making the hotel quiet and feeling more like a classic country inn. The bedroom and ensuite bath were very large. The finishes in the rooms of the hotel, moldings, chevron brick design in the breakfast room fireplace, give it an authentic period feel and reflect the original classic Belgian estate. It was comfortable but we did not experience breakfast as we had to leave at 5am for Zaventem airport in Brussels which was still under tight security since the recent tragic events there. Our host kindly offered to drive us for 50 euros to the airport at that absurd hour. It was a perfect solution to substitute for convoluted ways one would have to get to the airport otherwise at this time. All in all, a good stay in a unique place.
- Englisheric (4/5): Not a hotel more a bed & breakfast - The good points are 1. Easy parking 2. Easy to find 3. 20mins walk into Mechelen 4.helpful lady on reception. The not so good points are 1. The T.V. Only received German progs. 2. Lack of hot water in the rooms. 3. Poor WiFi connection. 4. Small room sizes 5. Tiny hand basin 6. No air con 6. Breakfast of B & B quality.
- alainm534 (8/5): Quality vs. price in Mechelen - The Malcot Hotel located in Mechelen looks as an old house in a garden.
No noise .
Outside one room they was no so big, rooms ar Ok for Blegium.
The rate price vs. quality is fine for Mechelen.
Parking free
Breakfist OK.
- adryana86 (8/5): Nice place and great owner - I was here for a business trip with my colleague.
The hotel was very good: room was small but cozy and clean, with everything you need in the bathroom; hearty breakfast (yogurt, milk, chocolate, lot of tea and all you news for bread); at the window you can have a view on a large meadow and a forest.
The reception was great, the owner is very kind and very helpful, nice and
"Mamma mia!!"
