Guest Reviews
- Kathleen (10/5): - Wonderful setting and lovely hosts
- Verified traveler (6/5): Peaceful stay - Beautiful drive through the forest to find this charming house. The hostess was very polite however came across inpatient with us. This is the last year this couple will be hosting. Understandable they are tired of doing this however made us feel a little awkward.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful hosts! - Wonderful hosts at a beautiful B&B in northern Scotland. Delicious breakfast and very helpful with sightseeing plans.
- Kimberly (10/5): - This property was simply amazing. The facilities are top-notch, the grounds are beyond beautiful, and the breakfast was delicious. However, the hosts were by far the best thing about Old Drynie House. They are full of great information about the sights and history of the area, and they gave us great advice. I cannot recommend this B&B enough!!
- Lauren (10/5): - We can’t even start to tell you how much we enjoyed our visit with both Deidre and Alastair. Our daily adventures were filled with explorations and adventures that we will never forget. Leaving this morning was like leaving family and we can’t wait to plan our next trip back again. Today was simply magical, as Alastair described. It is something that will be hard to explain to those back home and pictures don’t even begin to capture what we saw. Truly magical. We thank you both from the bottom of our hearts.
- Lisa (10/5): - The owners of Drynie house go above and beyond to make sure guests are comfortable. This is a lovely home and the garden is also very well maintained and beautiful overlooking the sea. The breakfasts were exceptional with beautiful place settings and fresh local ingredients. Alisdair made sure we didn’t leave until we had his printed personal directional maps with suggestions on various places he knew about. Beds were comfortable, lots of games for kids and books for adults to get lost in, a nice tea service in the room, and the dryer and flat iron were appreciated. A nice way to be close to Inverness and enjoy touring it without having to stay in the city. Only 15 minutes from Inverness restaurants but you feel like you are in another world.
- amy (10/5): - I cannot say enough lovely things about our experience at the Old Drynie House! The selection and quality of breakfast was outstanding. The house is beautiful yet comfortable. The property is quiet and well-kept with a lovely view of the firth. We stayed in the double room which was very comfortable, and the bathroom includes a large jetted tub for relaxing at the end of a long day of sightseeing. The room's amenities were so thoughtful! They included a flatiron, hair dryer, coffee maker, variety of snacks and a box of toiletries in case a guest had forgotten something. It was also very nice to have a fridge in the room! However, the thing that truly made our stay special were the owners, Diedre and Alasdair. They take the time to get to know their guests, and they have a passion to make sure that each guest gets the most out of their stay in the area. Alasdair made us a map showing us numerous points of interest around Loche Ness which we would have missed otherwise. Our stay in Inverness was made richer by the time and care of these two lovely people, and I can't recommend the Old Drynie House enough!
- Mary Elizabeth (10/5): - My few days at Drynie House were fantastic. The location is stunning and so peaceful. But what makes Drynie House are Diedre and Alasdair. They are gems. Diedre's morning repast is rival to any five star hotel and Alasdair's tour guiding is spot on. The only thing I would change is that my stay was to short.
- Matthew (10/5): - Amazing setting, very well laid out family rooms and the wonderful hospitality, care and local knowledge from Alasdair and Deirdre.
Highly recommended!
- james (4/5): - We checked in at 6pm, to be told the room was NOT ready. They gave us a drink to compensate. The room was like a matchbox. The bathroom was one of the worst i have stayed in [Including in China ]. The toilet was so badly positioned, a hole in the ground would have been better. Whoever fitted it, obviously had no brain. The shower was tiny, BUT it did have water pressure. The TV in the rom did NOT work at all. There was NO wireless, just a poster apologising there was NO internet. We dared not risk eating there, so we went to the hotel down the road. The room was clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful location, beautiful home with anything you may possibly need, and hospitality that is completely unmatched. The hosts are incredibly warm and welcoming, and we cannot wait to return.
- Ken (10/5): - We had a fantastic stay at The Old Drynie House, just west of Inverness. The grounds are beautiful, the home is cozy, the bedroom and bathroom was spacious (we were in the Secret Garden Double Room) and the bed comfortable.
Our bathroom had a jetted tub witch helps deal with aches and pains from a day of hiking and a head cold. Our room was not in the main house but in an annex immediately adjacent and included a small common room shared with another suite. The common room includes laundry machines, a dishwasher if you care to bring in food (no cooking on site) and a comfortable dining table. Additionally there is a game room with a snooker table, darts and table soccer- football.
With all that the grounds have to offer, and they offer a lot, the standout here are the hosts, Deirdre and Alasdair. They are warm, welcoming and ready to cater to your needs. The Breakfast is fantastic. Fresh fruits from the garden and homemade jams adorn the well appointed dining room. Alasdair will take your order the day before and have it ready at your prearranged time. I chose the mushroom and tomato omelette and it was fantastic. A starter of his “magic porridge” really helped me deal with my head cold.
My only regret about Old Drynie House is that I did not plan to stay a few more days as a base for our north-west highlands touring. I’m confident we will return to continue our Scotland adventures
- Casey’s (10/5): - Absolutely beautiful property and B & B. If you’re looking to get the “Scotland Nature” feel, this is your place! Exquisite grounds on the property. The room was clean and welcoming with anything we might have needed. Super nice owners. Alasdair is very funny and he will help you with any suggestions or ideas you might need for places to see and various routes to get there depending on what you want your day/s to look like. We really wish we had planned our trip differently and stayed here for more days than we did in Edinburgh. This is what seeing Scotland is all about...... Next Time!
- Tammy (10/5): Wonderful place - Really enjoyed our stay! Would definitely come back.
- Cliff (10/5): - Independent of the unique quite location in the forest by a loch and sheer beauty of The Old Drynie House, this B&B stay resulted in an extraordinarily memorable experience overall. Fortunately, I chose this location for a three-night stay to enable day trips to the west. After a fabulous breakfast each day, we received detailed guidance, history and advice for seeing and enjoying truly gorgeous parts of the highlands in the west. Additionally, we received amazing advice for our route to the southeast when we departed. The owners are in love with caring for and serving their guests. The highest level of quality was the norm in all aspects of the stay.
- Dorothy (10/5): Luxury B&B , Price worth it ! - This property is listed as a luxury B&B and lives up to it's name. The owners are a great couple , very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Garden Cottage and wow it was great. Roomy , modern and wonderful amenities. The B&B is set on a beautiful 20 acre property. A full breakfast was included and served beautifully. Two things a far as a heads up, the B&B is located approx 10 mins outside of Inverness with the roads to it very small but nice. Secondly, if paying at time of stay, cash payment is required. I was a higher price for a B&B but it was worth it !
- Grant&Doreen (10/5): - The host and hostess were tops and we're hoping to see them with us soon. They couldn't do enough for us. The accommodation was amazing and we had a great soak in the jacuzzi bath!! Breakfast was excellent. The gardens were beautiful, overlooking the Moray Firth and the field in front had some sheep and lambs. Will definitely be back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our hosts were exceptional...thoughtful, kind and interesting. Our train arrived late, it was dark and the route to the house complicated. Alasdair drove to the station to guide us home.
Rooms beautifully appointed. Breakfast very good. They really wanted to make sure we got the most from our Highlands visit.
- Tiffany (10/5): - What a little gem of a place!! The house is lovely and the grounds are beautiful. We slept wonderfully and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Deidre and Alistair are amazing hosts and we look forward to visiting them again. You won’t be disappointed if you book here.
- alyson (10/5): Great stay - Fantastic stay nothing was too much trouble. Lots of nice touches which make a difference.
