Guest Reviews
- Wendy (9/5): - Friendly and professional staff. Clean and well set out rooms. Generally well decorated but not keen on the plastic flowers.
- Kate (9/5): -
- Paul (6/5): Will not be recommending this hotel. - The location, set in a very pretty village. The food was excellant and nicely presented. On arrival just given direction to our room, no offer of help up two flights of stairs. A very small cramped room with only skylights. No wardrobe space, only some hooks on the wall.
- Ruth (10/5): Fantastic hotel, great staff, food and facilities. - I liked everything about this hotel. We stayed in ten pubs and hotels while doing the South Downs Way and the Nest was by far the best place we stayed. Really lovely room, super staff and great food. 10/10. Would not hesitate to stay again. Nothing. It was great
- Nigel (10/5): - Great staff good location -
- David (8/5): - Lovely pub and staff food was good. Should have been a cooked breakfast for the price.
- Gillian (8/5): A very nice stay and the staff were excellent - Staff were really pleasant and the meal in the Restaurant was excellent I found the Bedroom very small. I could barely walk down the side of the bed.

- Philippa (10/5): Fab stay for our walking trip. Really lovely hospitality. - Run by a lovely local family, very close to the South Downs Way.
- richard (9/5): Outstanding - Friendly clean and welcoming Breakfast but understand why it is continental only
- Annette Lloyd Thomas (9/5): - Very clean, quiet and comfortable room. Excellent food and service at the restaurant. They feature local products like beer from Flower Pots Brewery. Ideal location for South Downs Way walkers. Ample car parking space. We had an early start the next morning and they kindly provided bagged continental breakfast the evening before. Coffee and tea making facilities in the room were also great. Charming village to enjoy walking in. This historic hotel may not be suitable to those with mobility issues as there are no ground floor rooms and no lift.
- ANDREW (8/5): -
- Helenus (9/5): Heel plezierig, super vriendelijke eigenaars. - Locatie en goede parkeerplaats. Zeer vriendelijke familie. Helaas geen douche mogelijkheid in het bad.
- Ron (7/5): Pleasant stay. - Very clean, comfortable room, well located for our purposes, the drinks and food were good (see further comment below). Limited menu, food and drinks expensive, fairly basic continental breakfast (cooked breakfast overly priced).
- Stephen (10/5): Fabulous stay great hosting wonderful food what more can you ask for… -
- David (10/5): A wonderful family run hotel in a perfect location…. Lovely room and a great breakfast - A wonderful family run hotel in a perfect location…. Lovely room and a great breakfast
- Tanya (9/5): Great location, great room, great staff and literally ticked every box for us. - I have to say the towels were absolutely amazing at The Nest!! Amazing! Cooked breakfast included?
- Sharon (10/5): Made to feel welcomed and relaxed, very good food, rooms and service -
- Jane (9/5): A warm welcome at the Nest - Wonderful family run hotel, they gave us a warm welcome and a comfortable, clean and spacious room. Dinner was excellent in their busy restaurant, and we enjoyed a relaxed drink in the bar beforehand. We thoroughly enjoyed our cooked breakfast the following morning, and there was plentiful choice for the continental breakfast. They were more than happy to arrange a tasty packed lunch for our walk the following day. nothing
- Harry (8/5): -
- Robert (10/5): Excellent - Family run business staff friendly and brilliant service
- Willow (10/5): Wonderfully looked after in an amazing boutique hotel in an idyllic spot. - Amazing find! Owners worked so hard to make our stay fantastic. Comfy beds, really good bathrooms and good food. It’s a long way from home (7hours) to visit often.
- Rob (10/5): An absolute jem of a find! Recommend without hesitation - Great location, perfect for country walks. Accommodation was first class, spotless. Food was excellent, quality of ingredients superb. Owner and family extremely welcoming. Nothing!

- gaby (8/5): -
- Kay (4/5): Tiny room. - The rituals toiletries The room was very very small and only had skylight windows. There was hardly room to move. I found it very claustrophobic. Extremely poor value for money.
- Simon (10/5): Great place to stay for hikers and cyclists - Clean, easy to find, very welcoming and friendly hosts who were able to accommodate all of our hiking-related requests! Great food too! Nothing.
- steve (9/5): Lovely location with a classy room, committed staff and excellent food. - It was lovely to have a room where the windows opened fully and you looked out on to the trees at night. Service was friendly and very efficient. We asked for and received room with standalone shower in the en-suite. Dinner was of an excellent standard with a good , if not exciting choice. The cost included a continental breakfast with added cost if you wanted cooked from what seemed like an interesting selection . For us the continental with fruit , yoghurt cereal/ toast/ pastries with astoundingly good coffee was of a standard so rarely offered. The village itself with duck pond etc was delightful to visit even if one prefers the more rugged North to live ! An excellent stay . Nothing was an issue but it is worth noting the room we had was quite small which could be a little cramped if staying for more than a day or two.
- TB, London (10/5): - Super impressed. Really friendly, well managed place. Felt very much at home and well looked after. Dinner and breakfast excellent and nice ales too. Can’t think of a single thing.
- Stephanie (9/5): -
- Cornelia Jones (9/5): Charming Country Hotel - Very lovely family run country hotel. Service was welcoming and attentive.
Modern decor with original features. Nice ambiance.
Restaurant was almost full for dinner, as the food was just perfect. Breakfast was simple but delicious with assigned table for each room.
Nice size room with lots of high quality branded amenities, even bath bombs! Fresh milk with in room coffee/ tea was a really nice touch. The only down side was that the mattress on the bed was too soft. It was very bouncy and therefore uncomfortable.
- Ingram Hill (9/5): We had a wonderful stay at The Nest. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the facilities were very comfort - The staff were very friendly and the room extremely comfortable and tastefully decorated. Nothing
- Carole (9/5): Perfect for what we needed. - The staff were very attentive and excellent.
The food and service were excellent.
The whole place was exceptionally clean.
Nothing was too much trouble. A very small detail - but a couple of hooks on the back of the doors in Hummingbird would have been very welcome. We had wedding outfits to hang up and struggled to do that - very minor thing and it wouldn't stop me from visiting again.

- Kay (10/5): Amazing in a lovely village - Everyone was so lovely. A beautiful hard working family. Always happy to help. Nothing
- Michelle (10/5): We're coming again! - Friendly and efficient staff, lovely dinner, cosy and clean room and beautiful location. Would definitely stay again. Nothing
- Michelle (8/5): -
- Kate (7/5): Well run rooms over pub - Well run rooms over pub - and they helped to return the dress I left, which I'm very thankful for! No shower.
- Ruth (9/5): - Comfortable, clean and modern room, with lovely bathroom.
- guy (7/5): -
- Nina (7/5): -
- Frank (7/5): SDW - Lage zum SDW, Restaurant im Haus Frühstück Samstag und Sonntag erst ab 9 Uhr, kein warmes Frühstück im Preis
- Alison (10/5): Very pleasant stay - Lovely hotel in a peaceful, rural location (heard a barn owl when we had retired to our room), friendly & welcoming staff, nicely decorated, clean & comfortable room with a wonderful shower, and last but not least, lovely food too. -
- Wim (10/5): Super! - Zeer mooie en nette kamer. Zeer vriendelijk personeel. Heerlijk eten!
- Fraser (10/5): -
- Sarah (6/5): - Great location for the South Downs way. Lovely evening meal. Friendly staff, Room very hot, fan was provided in the room but to noisy to have on all night and only one plug so a trip hazard to have it across the floor during the night. Very uncomfortable and not a good nights sleep.
Continental Breakfast in the morning, no cooked breakfast.
- Eugene (10/5): -
- Alastair (8/5): It was a one night stay on a walking holiday. Very friendly reception, good dinner and a clean and comfortable room - Staff, location, bed Bathroom set up
- max (5/5): no one up to deal with you in the morning - hotel room lovley left out side till 12.00 in rain when owner new we was outside, like a prison no one up to deal with you in the morning had to wait to open the car park gate self check out very very warm rooms although a fan was provided
- Sardar (9/5): Very relaxing stay - Great location for South Downs Way. Staff all very friendly, helpful, and attentive. Food was really good and the room very comfortable. I like everything about the property. Only minor comment is the WiFi kept dropping out, which wasn’t a problem for me, but it might be for anyone who might plan on stable WiFi during their stay.
- Rebecca (10/5): - A very nicely presented well looked after and comfortable hotel. The room was very comfortable and the shower was amazing. All the staff were very friendly. There was a good range of breakfast options, with a cooked breakfast costing a bit more. Parking was easy with lots of spaces. A very short drive to Petersfield.
- Linda (6/5): Expensive for what is it - Very clean. Lots of hanging space. Very small room. Full of unnecessary niknaks which resulted in very little storage. Couldn’t get to the coffee machine due to lack of space. I had to keep my washbag etc on the floor. Most of the staff were friendly but not all!
- Angela (9/5): Lovely hotel in peaceful location - Lovely little village, dinner was great
- colin (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- nigel (10/5): Fabulous hotel . 10/10 - This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in . We cannot fault anything . The rooms were beautiful. The beds comfy. The staff were fantastic and service excellent. The restaurant is fantastic and very good value indeed.
We will definately stay here again Nothing. Fabulous
- Timothy (10/5): Relaxing in comfort and enjoyable staff - The room was comfortable and the restaurant was fab. Staff were spot on. Bar closing at 10:30 or 11:00 was earlier than I am used to.
Breakfast wasn’t until 09:00
- Kimberley (10/5): This place was spot on! Staff were friendly Food was excellent we were even given take away brea - Staff were friendly
Food was excellent we were even given take away breakfasts as we’re up and out early.
Rooms were very nice and comfortable
- Ruth (4/5): Lovely accommodation. Very poor customer service - Everything was beautiful. Lovely room. Nice places to sit. Food was good. They advertise as being good for walkers and cyclists but breakfast on Sunday doesn’t start till 9. Way too late for people with a long day ahead of them. To have them lock your bike away cost £10. Free willingly at all the other places I stayed. Only a continental breakfast is available during the week - and it was very nice- but again probably not sufficient for some people and their needs to charge their energy levels. Finally I found the staff very unsupportive when I found I had a puncture and was struggling to get wi - fi outside the pub when I needed it to adapt my route due to the late breakfast and then the puncture. I basically had the door shut in my face. As a solo female biker ( aged 78) I found it very demoralising to have so little concern for me shown. And the exact opposite from what I experienced at all my other b &bs where the interest and support was outstanding.
- Giovanni (9/5): -
- PHILIP (10/5): Very welcoming family run pub serving fantastic food - Very convenient, lovely family run pub and great food Bed a bit soft for my liking but hey ho!
- Kathleen (7/5): Nice inn - The hotel in general was lovely I was really disappointed about time restriction as its not nice to have a curfew. I came back earlier but not the point.
I was so sad that I didn't have the freestanding bath as I love them and got really excited because all the pics had them.
- Marie (9/5): - Great location. Nice room. Food fantastic
- Richard (9/5): Had a lovely stay as was attending a wedding locally hotel was spotless with very attentive staff - This is a great hotel staff very attentive lovely evening meal as was breakfast Room was a little small for us but everything you needed next time would book larger room
- Shirley (7/5): Good location for private party. - Convenient for party. Bedroom was very small!
- JULIE (7/5): We were a family group staying for a wedding but the owners were very strict about rules and regulations which came acro - Location. Not suited to family groups or families with children more for walkers/cyclists as there are no facilities such as a garden or welcoming attitude towards children.
- Alexandra (10/5): -
- Diane (10/5): - The Nest Hotel was a perfect stop on our South Downs Way walk. The room was super clean and the food was delicious. Communication was a little difficult because the hotel did not reply to my messages through the Booking.com app even though this was how I had booked with them. They did however reply to my email.
- Ian (10/5): Fantastic location just off SDW. Welcoming and friendly hotel with fabulous food - All the food we had at The Nest was delicious. Evening meal, breakfast and the packed lunch for our walk the next day (£10). The homemade brownie in the packed lunch was worth the cost on its own! Nothing - it was perfect
- Helen (6/5): - Lovely setting. Not very personal.
- Cherry Sau PING (9/5): Very clean and comfortable. Bed was comfy. Pub serves great food. Service brilliant. - Check in was quick. Info given sufficient. Food was great, atmosphere very relaxing. Highly recommend Got the attic room - after a day's walking, every single step more on the stairs is a pain. room slightly smaller than expected but ok as we're only staying a night.
- Saira (1/5): Very poor customer service - Lovely looking place. We were doing the southdowns way bike ride, so the location was very good. Very rude staff. Should you encounter any problems, you are likely to see a very defensive, unhelpful response. I am wondering, due to the fact that there are very few places in the area, they seem to think they can behave this way maybe. Really let the place down. They also have along list of rules which they immediately provide you on arrival and they charge your card a fairly high amount which stays as a pending charge however, it is unusual as I have experienced this with other hotels.
- Amelia (10/5): Relaxing - It was beautiful and they had luxury products to wash with. Nothing
- ADRIAN (4/5): -
- Ralf (4/5): Außen hübsch - innen furchtbar - Äußerlich sehr ansprechend
Gute Lage Frühstück ab 09.00 (!) Für Wanderer keine Alternative.
KEIN warmes Wasser!
Besitzer forderte uns nach Kritik auf, eine neue Unterkunft zu suchen. Unfassbar.
WiFi funktionierte unterdurchschnittlich
Oberstes Zimmer nur 2 Dachluken. Wir hatten Glück, es brannte nicht 🤙
- Richard (10/5): Perfect overnight stay on the South Downs Way - Stayed at the Nest while walking the South Downs Way. Felt really welcome and the customer service was first class. Our bedroom was perfect and furnished to a very high standard. Had one of the best chicken Caesar salads I’ve ever had chosen from an extensive menu. Would highly recommend. -
- Alain (8/5): -
- Giles (7/5): Nice pub with rooms near South Downs Way - Friendly staff
Good food
Clean Small bathroom
Breakfast 9am to 10am - too late for breakfast and only one hour window is too restrictive and means everyone there at once.
Cooked option for breakfast not included in room rate - despite high price
- Alan (8/5): We enjoyed a pleasant stay but had some reservations. - Friendly staff, good location, well maintained, good atmosphere. Room and bathroom were rather small.
Having to leave room at 10.00 am and being unable to remain in the hotel after that time made it feel rather like a guest house.
Overpriced for bed and continental breakfast.
- shaun (9/5): -
- Craig (10/5): Great break - The food was fantastic , puddings amazing
