- Katherine (8/5): - The location is perfect. It's in the upper town, which is nice and is a major bus stop for a few different lines.
- Danny (6/5): - The location was very good and in general clean besides a drain issue which was rectified. However the sofa bed was in poor condition and some stains on the sheets which were gross.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Ideal location We selected this apartment for its location close to the centre of the old city and were not disappointed. From our window we could see into the Grand-Place itself. The apartment was quite simply furnished, but spacious, clean, and equipped with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Access to the building and our flat was simple with the codes supplied by e-mail - no problems at all with that system; shops, restaurants, and bars are plentiful within short walking distance. It was also convenient to be within a few minutes walk of Brussels Central Station and the metro line at Bourse so that we could get around the city and nearby towns with the minimum of effort. We enjoyed our week in the city and would use this company again.

- Verified traveler (2/5): - First of all we did not know it wasn’t a hotel. We arrived early in the rain, we could not get inside the building. We finally got a hold of someone from Smartflats they offered a lounge to leave our 6 suitcases. Me and my elderly parents has to drag our suitcases under the rain on a stone path to get to the lounge. My dad has a torn ligament in one shoulder which made me stress more. We were only going to stay for one night. We hired an Uber to take us back to the hotel. Once we got to the place it smelled terrible, we ordered an Uber for the next day at 6:30am to catch our next flight. we were ready to go at 6am still soar from pulling out suitcases the day before, but to our surprise the elevator was not working and we were on the 3rd floor. Six suitcases, with nobody to help us and we did not want to miss our flight. This was the most terrible experience we ever had. I think the idea of smartflats is okay, but they have to warn you before you book a place like this explaining what to expect if you arrive early or late and how unpersonalized it is. I will never book something like this again.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Could be 20% cooler - The hotel is placed at a great location - next to the Grand Place. However, a few things are lacking. There is no washing machine in the room, even though their guide book talks about it. No A/C. It was tolerable for my family in June. There was not much soap in the dispensers so we had to use our own.

Access to the building and the flat was most difficult, with unclear instructions, poorly operating door access, poorly informed help desk person via phone. Person on phone could not find our reservation and kept us on phone without assistance. Other entering guests gave us lessons in access which they learned from other guests. Front door had to be pressured to operate, lift often became stuck between floors. Window shade missing in bedroom skylight, bulb missing from bedroom lamp.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location was splendid. The ability to use SmartFlats Offices as a left-luggage facility was great. We were 3 people in a 2 bedroom flat - so it was spacious and airy. Flats 101 had a small terrace, which would be nice in summer. Downside - we had no functioning dishwasher and no alternate means of washing up because there was no plug or washing-up bowl. If we had wanted to cook this would have made the kitchen useless. We booked 2 double bedrooms - but were given a double and a twin. No-one wants a single bed when they have paid for a double! I complained about both of these issues - I got an “oh dear” response.......not great customer service. I really think they might have at least sent over a box of chocolates over as a sorry!

The only downside was being awoken at 6:00 am by really loud noise, it sounded like a nearby recycling center (trucks backing up and the sound of glass bottles). Overall, great experience, I would stay again.

- Joseph (6/5): Fantastic location with no service - Yes: It has a fantastic location and a good price. Quiet / not noisy at night. Beyond that: No service. Elevator was not working in the mornings (we suspect that the cleaning lady holds up the elevator, so if you're checking out in the morning, good luck bringing your bags down). EVERYONE's key codes got reset during your stay over Christmas (yes everyone's codes in the entire building). Room appears clean, but walls were actually dirty. Lack of cabinets and drawers. No where to hang / leave your clothes in the shower. The shower had no curtain so water kept spilling into the floor. Towels not replaced once despite a long stay.

- Verified traveler (6/5): - Its a good location if you are in Brussels for tourism. The 'no humans on premise' get use to heavy doors with pin codes isn't my thing. My flat was 'worn'. Posted signs not to enter balcony as it was unsafe; peeled paint in kitchen etc. If you're a couple that wants to feel like you have an apt. while in Brussels this might be for you. As a short hotel stay 4 business around EU it wasn't my thing.
- JayPatel (10/5): - Excellent accomodation. We used the studio flat as a hotel-like stay for three nights. Really clean flat in terms of bedding/bathroom/kitchen/desk - cleaner than most four star hotels - not a spec of dust! However, the floor really needed a mop as fresh socks kept getting covered in dust within about 60 seconds. Heaters AND cooling fans were provided even in October in addition to normal wall-hung radiators. Excellent location - can see the Grand Palace Square from the room. Tram/metro/bus connections to most tourist locations are within a 5min walk at Bourse station and Central station is 10mins away. Public buses to take you to the EU area are 2min walk. Three mini-supermarkets are within 5min walk too. There is a elevator, but is quite old - but more importantly, it literally didnt work half the time so probably wouldn't reccomend for older people. I had to carry 33kg of luggage up four flights of stairs - luckily it was working when I checked-out! Safe and secure (important for apartments with no front desk) - double passcode entry to get into the building and then another passcode to get into your room. Overall it was excellent. Would come back again.

- Leonides (8/5): Great location! - It's a great location, just a couple of blocks away from the Grand-Place. Dozens of restaurants nearby. It can be noisy at times, but that expected by being in a busy downtown street. Also, about 4 blocks away from the train station. For people looking to stay for several days, it's very convenient to have a small kitchen there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good base to explore the city. - We had a flat on the first floor. Even though there was a busy street below us, the soundproofing was good. We managed to sleep well. Although a washing machine was advertised, it was not there when we stayed. Kitchen facilities were adequate. This is an Ikea designed flat meaning just about everything in it is from Ikea. Not necessarily a bad thing i suppose. We had issues with a broken shower head which was fixed promptly even though we checked in after 5pm. Conveniently located 2 minute walk to Grand Place. Not a luxurious apartment and not a room you would want to spend lots of time in but an adequate base for exploring the city.
- Mike (2/5): Beware - great location but terrible service - Hotel is in great location and clean, but customer service is non-existent. Traveling with my mother so booked the one bed and sofa bed option. Apparently you have to put in a special request for two sets of bedding if you actually want sheets for the sofa bed (this is not stated anywhere). I contacted the customer support and they basically just told me that I was out of luck even though the cleaners with clean linens were in the building. At that point I found one of the carts with clean sheets and grabbed a set myself. When we left to got to dinner they entered our room without permission and actually took the sheets away. Most ridiculous hotel experience. Called back again and got the same response. Ended up stripping a sheet from the bed and sleeping with a sheet on the sofa. Beyond that the lift is terrible and can get stuck on the 6th floor so we had to walk 5 flights of stairs twice during our one night stay. Rooms are clean and the location is great, but I’d never stay at a smart flats again after this experience.

- Chris (10/5): Spacious apartment in a central location - The apartment was very spacious with high ceilings, large bedrooms and a big lounge / kitchen. It was pretty clean, and had large windows for ventilation in a hot August. The kitchen was well-equipped, although we didn't really use it. The fridge was huge, for plenty of cold drinks. There were 2 heavy doors secured by codes, and a small but serviceable elevator.

- GAtraveler (8/5): - This apartment is located in a prime location, just two blocks from Grand Place, and around the corner from Manneken Pis. Plus, it is just about two blocks from the Police station. So, it felt very safe. There were plenty of shops and restaurants within an easy walking distance, and even a grocery store approximately 7 minutes away by foot. The train station is an easy 10-minute walk. There are two passcode controlled locked gates/doors between the street and the apartment door, which, again, helps to promote a sense of security. The apartment was attractive and very clean, aside from needing a good mopping, and the beds were comfortable. The toilet is in a separate room from the shower, which was very nice. The shower is large and has good water pressure, and the kitchen was plenty large for a short stay. Really, the facilities were comfortable. The wifi was great, until it went out for the last two days of the trip. This made it pretty hard to check in with the airline and manage work responsibilities while away. However, there are some notable cautions. First, they only provide one towel per person per week. Perhaps this is an American thing, but that simply is not sufficient and feels pretty unsanitary. Second, the elevator is unpredictable and very small. If you are accustomed to European elevators, it's manageable, but not if you have a physically limited person with you who cannot climb stairs. Third, it is NOT an easy walk from the lounge if you have luggage.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Superb location - Spacious plus fabulous location. Appeared to be in the process of renovation. Electrical cables hanging from walls, some aspects, eg tiling, incomplete. The photo when booking misrepresented the level/quality of finish, eg no lounge, painted walls. Check in code was confusing and annoying. No response to a couple of calls regarding problems with the accommodation.
- Anne (8/5): We stayed at Grand Place my family of 5 for a week - The apartment was easy to find and easy to access, I was a bit weary based on reviews but no need. I received the mail with my access code to the door and apartment 2 days prior to my stay exactly as indicated. The apartment was spacious enough for the 5 of us and had a nice table to have dinner and a well appointed kitchen. It was convenient to have the WC separate from the shower area both of which were clean and bright. As it was in Grand Place it could be noisy as people are out on the street until 4 am and them traffic and street noises start about 7, so we had to shut our windows, however I sent a text asking for a fan and the next day one was left in the apartment. It was super convenient to everything. Walking distance to all kinds of neighborhoods, shops, dining, transportation everything you could want.

- Allan (6/5): Great location, poor service - The apartment is in an ideal location right in the city centre. The apartment is large but quite sparsely furnished. We paid for a terrace but there was none. It took Smart Flats until the last day of our holiday to respond, and badly. There is another review mentioning a lack of terrace on here from eight months ago, so clearly they haven't changed the description and are quite happy to misinform customers. The shower light was also broken and a lamp shade missing in the bedroom. Overall it was great for the location and the space, but I wouldn't recommend Smart Flats as a company.
- Quyen (6/5): Access to Grand Palais in Belgium - Location is great. 1 minute walk to the Grand Palace. The building is old as all buildings in this area. Apartment is quite large space for familiy of 4. Don’t expect any hotel amenities such as room service nor concierges. You must be self sufficient in all area of the stays. There is no attendant upon checkin and must use pre-emailed code to enter the building and the room. The lift is small and fit only two persons with small luggages. Area is quite safe for night time stroll.
- Conrad (8/5): Stayed from 28 May - 3 Jun 2018 - Brussels city center is a wonderful place. Nice sceneries, good food and beer of course. We went to Burges and Ghent. Go to these places to see the old buildings, churches. The free walking tours provides good introduction to the places and from there you can explore further by yourself.

We were incorrectly told there was a washing machine onsite (first we thought in the flat but then inaccurately told it was in the building); turned out we had to go to the public laundromat around the corner (not too inconvenient though). Not sure how garbage was to be disposed off, or if / how we could have got a fresh set of towels (we didn’t ask/get any). But we felt very safe and secure with the arrangements and would stay there again. And oh, the Manneken Pis is just a block away!

Loved that I had the use of a kitchen and once we figured out how to work the thermostat we were good to go. Only thing I didn’t like was that when they cleaned the room they replaced 2 sets of towels with one and I had a whole other week to stay.

- Holly (2/5): Buyer Beware! - I was quite dissatisfied with the Brussels property. First, I arrived and the cable TV was not working. I called the 24/7 customer service line to report this and was told that someone would call me back. I never received a call back and the cable was not operable my entire stay of 5 days. In addition, the apartment was very hot. I thought that the thermostat must be malfunctioning and once again called the 24/7 customer. I was told that no one was available to come and help us out at that time and I would receive a call back. I never received a call back. Trying to sleep was a challenge! It was not possible to open the windows due to the noise from the street. I later learned that it was not the thermostat at all, it was just hot. We hoped for much better lodging....no TV that we counted on for entertainment and too hot to sleep. To make matter worse, the management at first refused a refund offering instead a discount on a future stay. I refused as I will never stay there again. Finally, they offer a small refund that I have requested several times. As usual, I have not received a refund or a response from them. In conclusion: 1. Despite advertising 24/7 customer service, management simply takes reports and does not respond to customer reports of apartment malfunctions and problems. 2. The management engages in poor business practices by not delivering promised services and refusing reasonable compensation. Yet, they require full payment up front. Buyer Beware!

- Shona (8/5): Lovely big apartment in heart of old Brussels - This was a lovely big apartment about 2 blocks away from the Grand Place and 1 block away from Mannequin Pis. You could actually look down the street into the Grand Place. It was only about 5 mins walk away from the Central Station so it was easy to find and get to. It is not staffed but email and text correspondence with door codes worked well and it would be easy enough to contact staff if needed. The main open plan kitchen lounge was really big, clean, comfortable and modern. The decor was modern and cool. Good powerful shower in shower room and separate toilet were also modern and clean. Main bedroom had little balcony off it but no real view. My only faults of this fab apartment were that there weren’t enough pillows and a giant hadn’t installed the bathroom cabinet (I’m 5 foot and I couldn’t actually peer into the mirror even on tip toes). Because it was so central there was a bit of street noise up until around 10:30/11, then it was quiet. The twin room the kids were in was facing street so they did comment on that a couple of times. Main room facing out the back was quiet, could feasibly have swapped around if more of an issue.
- Amie (8/5): Cute Apartment! - The apartment it’s self was nice and clean when we arrived, it’s in a great location. However on the walls their was noticeable scratch marks on many of the walls. The self check in was very simple and easy to use. The only thing that disappointed me was I booked a room with a terrace, which we didn’t receive. I sent an email to them regarding this to no response, yet before our stay they were very quick at responding to any questions I had, so this left me feeling disappointed.

Outstanding support staff, very clean and well stocked apartment and amazing location. We felt right at home from the first hour and the entire family was sad to say goodbye to our apartment in Brussels when our holiday came to an end.
- Adrian (10/5): Great modern apartments - Great stay in great apartments. I will definitely book again. We had the studio apartment towards the top floor, with balcony. The Smart Flat customer service was good; the team checked-in with us before and during the trip. The apartments were clean and well equipped. Nothing to fault them with at all. The location was brilliant, just off the town square and close to central areas. Although the check in was a slightly later 3pm, we dropped bags off at the Smart Lounge which is only 10 minutes walk away.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid at all costs - Probably the worst place i have ever stayed and i've been to jail. When we arrived we entered the apartment via the access code we were given to see the apartment was not ready. It was absolutely filthy, with broken glasses, mirrors, cooking facilities that did not work and general cleanliness issues. We were told we must exit the property in order for the cleaner to arrive even though it was passed our check in time and we had all unpacked. The cleaner arrived so we left, when we returned she stole several items including money, bedding, headphones and perfume. We emailed the apartment to complain about this but ofcourse it was denied. They then proceeded to tell us if we wanted more bedding we would need to pay £25 for it. (even though it was there before the cleaner decided to have a little robbing spree) So for the 4 days we stayed there we had no bedding, cooking facilities or towels. I have experienced better facilities and service in prison. The windows would not close properly and the apartment stank of cigarettes. It was impossible to sleep due to the noise outside and from other guests. The lift was like something from the 1800's and was not safe. Avoid this place at all costs, stay on the street before you stay here, you'll have more luxury that way.

- Pav (4/5): Not good for business travellers - Simple apartment but it is in the middle of a building site. The work started very early (lots of banging so I could not sleep). The apartment was also on a VERY, VERY noisy road with lots of traffic all day and night long. Also lots of tourists in the street below making a lot of noise. Terrible for business travelers. I decided to leave the apartment early and go stay somewhere else...
- Shannon (8/5): Great location - The location of this apartment is amazing! It's only a few blocks from Grand Place so there are lots of shops and restaurants in the area. Although the location was great during the day, it was also loud in the evening/at night. The apartment is in good condition and clean. It was spacious for our family of six and there was a lot of communication during our stay.

- Ogechieruo (10/5): Very pragmatic, very practical - Stayed here while attending a 2-day conference at The Square. Location was excellent as The Square was within walking distance. Was also close to a range of shops. Arrived ahead of check-in time but Smartflats have a lounge in the centre of town where you can wait until your apartment is ready. This really came in handy as I could work while waiting and the staff promptly informed me once my apartment was ready. The Access code system is really easy to use and the email sent prior contained all the needed information. Everything I needed was working in my apartment which was very clean. The kitchen was fantastic. I cannot gauge how the staff would have coped if something did go wrong/faulty as I had no reason to call them. As they say the true test of any company's customer service is when something does go wrong. Thankfully, no experience of that this time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Brussels Beauty! - Smartflats Design - Grand-Place is a fantastic location and great sized apartment for your visit to Brussels. As a couple, we found the accommodation to be a great size to spread out, very comfy bed and clean and as described in the brief. Two small negatives, the first the lift after walking our feet off in Brussels we had to navigate over 100 steps (21 steps between each floor!!) to the 5th level on one occasion as the lift was stuck on one of the floors. The second time, we noticed it on the 3rd floor, the previous occupants had not shut the door properly, consequently the lift didn't work. Secondly, more instructions in the apartment would assist in using things such as the coffee machine, etc. Overall a great location and I would definitely stay again and recommend this accommodation to friends and family.
