Francesco, Cher Vincenzo, and Pierre were especially welcoming hosts and elevated our experience. We stayed in the Exec Suite, which was great for our family of 4 (two small kids) and the grounds have plenty of space for running around (or having a small family wedding!). Absolutely no complaints. Some folks may wish for a bit more basic gear in the workout room (yoga mats, jump rope) and a hot tub would be great!

• Lauren M (10/5): A little slice of heaven! - The most beautiful place I have ever visited! We went here for our honeymoon and truly felt like royalty. They took such good care of us from the second we walked in to the moment we got in the taxi to leave. I can’t say enough good things about this place. If you are even thinking about booking here, do it!! Sometimes the staff would be hard to find, but they were super attentive and helpful. So friendly!

Would have given 5 star if the air con was working too. £500+/ night stay and air con did not work even after calling 5 times. On last day I woke up in pool of sweat as it was so hot. Man at reception hung up on me saying he is not the technician! Spoke to another lady, she kept repeating that their panel at the reception is showing 17, regardless of seeing that panel in the room was showing 22.5. Then she was asking me if I was finding 22.5 too hot. After arguing for 20 min.s she told me she will send a fan up. Which she did but they did not turn on the aircon at al, all that time!!!! Very inconvenient and frustrating. They tried to make up by giving bottles of wine but not good enough. What I needed was a cold room! Sorry!

• juanjosecorrea_uy (2/5): A hotel that takes advantage of its guests - “A hotel that takes advantage of its guests” My experience at this hotel was terrible. Not only do they have no interest in providing good service, but they also try to take financial advantage of their guests at every opportunity. When faced with obvious problems, their reaction is not to fix them but to ignore them or come up with unacceptable excuses. The staff is indifferent and unprofessional, and management completely disengages. It’s crystal clear their only goal is to squeeze as much money as possible from guests, with no regard for the quality of the stay. One expects at least a minimum level of hospitality in a hotel, but here the only thing you’ll find is disrespect and greed. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of better options where guests are treated with care and respect. This hotel is the opposite: a prime example of how not to run a hospitality business.

• The_Gnoo (8/5): Beautiful location, clean pool, lots of mosquitoes - Nice villa with great restaurant but lacked warmth and charm. Clean rooms and delicious food. Great views. Met the owner Massimo who was delightful and gave us lots of tips. We stayed in an Executive Suite on the top floor. Huge room and plenty of space for the three of us. Disappointingly no views and the biggest issue - the air conditioning was awful. Previous reviews mention this but it’s really true. We had it on full blast but room was horribly hot both nights. It’s a real negative for this hotel. Breakfast was good and the pool area was great also. Watch out for the mosquitoes though. The Zan Zare is big there and we got over 10 bites the first night. Put the spray on! Pool is large and super clean. Not that warm but refreshing. Overall we recommend.

Pochissime cose direi dettagli che possono essere risolti con poco: la piscina andrebbe seguita un po’ meglio per non rischiare che qualcuno non trovi posto dato dalla maleducazione di alcuni che si spargono su più lettini senza pensare che ci sono anche altre persone e forse alcuni piatti del ristorante sono migliorabili. Però davvero piccoli dettagli facilmente gestibili.

The room was spacious and big. Leo the waiter was very polite and diplomatic, almost like all the stuff at the hotel. The rooms are big but there is few light, the bathtubs have to be renovated as they are not working properly. Breakfast was okay but not too varied. Overall it was a nice hotel, but overpriced for the facilities it offers.

Everything about the hotel is superlative. The food, the lovely staff, ambience and views combine to make this a very special place. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and you feel looked after from the moment you arrive until the (sad) moment we left. We will visit again.

The suites were luxurious, the breakfast and dinners divine, the pool so refreshing after our days of touring the area. The location was perfect for our daily outings to Greve, San Gimignano, Pisa, Lucca and Siena. Views from the property and the sunsets are still etched in our memory! But it’s the staff that makes this lovely place so very special and everyone who worked there are to be commended for their care and dedication to making their guests feel so welcome. • hansbD8207EE (2/5): Not worth 5 stars!!!! - We booked a weekend at Villa le Calvane. We live in Florence but we wanted to stay in the countryside to escape the high temperatures in Florence. I booked this via internet as it looked very nice. A suite with two bedrooms as we were in three. Two days before, we phoned the villa to ask if it would be possible to come earlier to stay at the swimming pool. Normally this is not an issue at any other property we have visited but for them it was. The lady who responded the phone stated clearly that check-in time was 15:00 hours and earlier was not possible, in an arrogant way. I phoned on the day of arrival if something had changed, but was responded in the same way, so I said: okay, it is as it is but I expressed myself very unhappy. After 5 minutes the manager called me and told me we could come earlier to stay at the swimming pool. Strange, is it not???? We planned to have dinner as well at this villa, but we skipped because we were treated wrongly, to our opinion. When we arrived, we still expressed ourselves and they told us that it was the owner of the property who is very strict with the rules. They also mentioned that check out time was 11:00 hour the day after and we were not allowed again to stay and to enjoy the swimming pool. Both days there was hardly anyone at the pool!!! I even asked myself if the villa was fully booked. When we came back from dinner, the room was very hot. They do not have airconditioning in the rooms but a cooling through the heating system. As all curtains were closed this system does not work, so we did not sleep very well. The next morning I took a shower and there was no warm water. Other remarks, the waiters were wearing filthy trousers and shirts with marks on it, one of them had even his tie loose. Also there was a strange smell in the afternoon which we think came from the kitchen. Basically this place is overrated very much and not worth 5 stars. We paid a lot of money for one night and it was wrongly spent. There are many other places in Tuscany where you can spent a good time for even less money

All extremely friendly and helpful with a special mention to Gemma and Paolo who went out of their way to make our stay memorable!! However, what spoilt our stay was the accomodation - how you can provide a suite without a single window in what is truly one of the most spectacular vistas on earth is a tad criminal!! Have the decency to mention the room - attic really has no windows and it’s up to the paying guest to decide whether he wants to book or not. It spoilt or stay here completely as it was not only claustrophobic but we felt totally ripped off!! A view to die for and it felt like a box!! Shame on you Villa Le Calvane.

The property is perched a top of a hill with gorgeous views of the surrounding Tuscan landscape. Upon arriving we were welcomed warmly. Our room was a 2 bedroom suite, extremely well appointed with Acqua di Parma toiletries, beautiful furnishings, luxurious bathrooms and views of the Tuscan hills and pool. Every single member of the staff went above and beyond to make our stay as special as possible. We are so thankful for all of them, they were all so kind and welcoming. I think this was the best hospitality I've ever experienced so far. The restaurant, La Terrazza, is wonderful and we had dinner there several times. The food is wonderful and the view is incredible. Le Calvane produces their own wines and olive oil, both of which are top quality and we enjoyed them during our stay (the Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon is some of the best we've had) and their extra virgin olive oil is fantastic. The villa was originally build during the 1600s but went thru an extensive 11 million euro renovation around 2016, now the only 5 star hotel in the tiny village of Montespertoli. Easy to get around to other villages around Tuscany and only an easy 40 minute drive from Florence. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Enjoying their great wines while watching the sun set over the hills was a beautiful experience and, frankly, it is a place I would definitely return.
• James (10/5): - One of the finest hospitality experiences I have ever had. The property is unbelievably beautiful. We were in a two bedroom suite, each bedroom with its own bath. The space was incredible. During our four night stay we elected to have dinner at the property three times; it was that good. Most significant to our experience were the outstanding staff and the serene environment. The staff could not have been more attentive. They assisted us with restaurant and activity reservations. On property they were there whenever we needed them. With only 15 rooms, you could feel like you were staying in your own private mansion. Views of the Tuscan countryside are everywhere and stunning. Ta truly unforgettable experience.

The on-site restaurant is fantastic, although the breakfasts are just good, not extraordinary. The staff puts their heart into making your stay the best it can be. Special thanks to Paolo! We were surprised by the additional charges for breakfast dishes. In a 5-star hotel with such high room rates, charging guests extra for items like Eggs Benedict seems at least a strange idea. Although the staff is truly amazing, they cannot adequately service the pool as they are likely overwhelmed with a long list of other duties. A good idea would be to install buttons by the loungers to request service.
• Peter (7/5): Good - Beautiful peaceful villa, rooms and pool setting with excellent service and gourmet cuisine We requested that after we checked out at 11am, we could stay at the pool until 1pm, when we would have lunch before departing. We only stay at five star hotels/villas and this is the first that said no. After spending over $3,500 for two nights (2rooms ) I was disappointed and will not return.

Amazing pool! My wife and 2 kids (11,7) really enjoyed our stay. We were so tired from our day trips that we ate at the Villa almost every night.Chef is fantastic - and those views every night! The breakfast is included and the kids couldnt wait to wake up and see what was waiting for them. Loved the 2 bedroom/2 bath room we had so that we didnt need sepearte rooms. This is the perfect spot to stay in Northern Tuscany!

Food was also amazing, taster menus in the evening or normal dishes and amazing breakfasts! Only down side and that’s being really picky is there is no hot tub, but pool and sauna was fantastic!

Eva and Gemma were wonderful communicating with us prior to our trip so all our activities could be coordinated. They informed us that many of the activities we were interested in (horseback riding, truffle hunting, winery tour) were offsite and so would require us to drive, but they were very helpful in arranging a private ride back and forth to Florence and a 2-day car rental while we were at the property so we could go to these activities and take a day trip to Pisa. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming, the rooms and bathrooms were spacious, the grounds were clean and well-maintained, and the views were phenomenal. We very much appreciated everyone's efforts in making our stay so fabulous!

• Fredrik (6/5): Unpleasant Odors and Unmet Expectations - I rarely leave reviews, but after this recent stay, I feel compelled to share my experience. Firstly, I must commend the waitstaff for their exceptional service. However, our room had an unpleasant odor that seemed to be a mixture of louis and an overpowering perfume used to mask it. Regrettably, the hotel was fully booked, and the receptionist was unwilling to consider a refund. Her handling of the situation lacked the professionalism one expects from a five-star establishment. Despite our attempts to find a solution, we were met with disappointment throughout our stay. While the breakfast and location were acceptable, it's my opinion that this hotel falls short of a five-star rating and is better suited as a four-star establishment.

I can’t say it enough - this was the most luxurious and friendly European hotel we’ve ever picked. The rooms were gorgeous and comfortable and were cleaned/tidied each day at the perfect time. Breakfast was tasty and dinner authentic and delicious. We LOVED having lunch at the pool and highly recommend the sandwiches. Highly recommend the wine tasting and pasta cooking class as well - both take place on site and the hosts were so knowledgeable and fun! We had our 7 and 2 yr old along with us and we utilized the babysitter service which worked perfectly! The woman they contracted with brought fun toys and texted us numerous times during our dinner out to assure us that the children were safe and happy. We will absolutely be back!

• AndyG426 (10/5): Stunning boutique property in the heart of Tuscany - My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at Villa le Calvane, and it was a memorable and delightful stay throughout. The setting is spectacular, perched on a hilltop overlooking the valley of vineyards and olive groves, the countryside rolling and stretching away to the distant mountains on the horizon. Our suite was large and extremely comfortable, the food superb especially breakfast and dinner on the terrace enjoying the fabulous views. There is a lovely infinity pool, plenty of loungers and sofas dotted around to relax in, and we both enjoyed an outstanding massage during our stay. All the staff are knowledgeable, speak excellent English and are incredibly helpful in recommending places to go, to eat and activities to enjoy. We had a wine tasting in the wine cellar with Mirko the incredibly knowledgeable restaurant manager who runs his own winery. We also enjoyed a truffle hunt around 30 minutes drive away which was a real highlight. The hotel is perfectly positioned to explore Tuscany, within an hour if Florence, Siena and the Chianti towns and villages. A car is essential to get around. We loved our stay and we’re genuinely sad to leave. The entire team contributed to making our stay truly special and memorable. We even had the owner come and sit with us on our last day and ask our feedback on our experience - which was a lovely touch. Thank you to Leonardo, Salvatore, Mirko, Mario and everyone else.

It was a wonderful place to just relax and unwind. I think there could be a better variety on the menu including snack items for in-between meals. Also, I think there should be more inclusive things included in the room rate.
