Guest Reviews
- Edwin Omar (2/5): - Couldn’t sleep because bedbugs are bitting me all night.
- Syed Zaheer (4/5): - Just ok
- hannahmA2593BD (2/5): Awful - DO NOT STAY!
The staff were no where to be seen on arrival but once they came there was no communication or welcome at all. The photos are far from what you will get. It was dirty, one toilet for all floors, vile smell throughout the whole premises and no aircon at all.
The whole experience from staff to hostel was extremely unpleasant resulting in my and my friends not even checking into our rooms for more than 1 hour!
- X6702OWstaceys (2/5): Disgusting - Do not stay here especially if you’re a woman. The men talk to your chest not your face. Images are very deceiving. We booked for one night but left 3 hours after we arrived and instead went to the airport early as we were more than happy loosing out on sleep if it meant we weren’t staying here.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The doom-room is not really clean, toilet smells discarding, the fan is so annoying with its sound, air-con is turned on in the evening only
- cammiestruthers (6/5): Mint Hostel - Clean, well air conditioned rooms and comfortable beds however the rooms were a bit overcrowded (10 people ) and there was not enough space for bags etc. It is well located close to many bus stops , ferry’s and restaurants which made traveling a lot easier.
They also provided a decent breakfast.
- MichaelaBudge (6/5): Mint Hostel Stay - Very comfortable beds with an aircon, however rooms were quite full (10 beds a room) with little space for personal belongings. We had to sleep with our bags on our beds. It is close to many bus stops and ferry stations to make transport around Bangkok easier.
- DebansheeSaha (2/5): Horrible stay - The pictures shown on the sites are deceiving. The hostel might have looked like that once but doesn't anymore. The rooms are stuffy and congested. The floor boards were coming off. The washrooms were dirty.
Overall, an extremely bad experience staying at Mint Hostel
- Eatpraylove12 (2/5): Absolutely Horrible stay - The staff is super rude, I had to wait more then 5 minutes to do the check in, because the receptionist was too busy talking with his friends.
In my room it was full of old weird men which made me feel so uncomfortable. Showers are only on the first floor and there is not even a space to change. Breakfast is served super late and its very poor. Definitely not recommend it.
- danpO218MT (6/5): Cheap and cheerful! - Stayed in this hostel for 3 nights with two friends. Great location for Khao San Road, about 10 minute walk, and a couple of shops around it.
You get what you pay for, small reception/chill out area where you can eat and drink, good WiFi. Breakfast provided is fruit toast coffee and tea, acceptable.
You leave your shoes down stairs before heading up to the rooms that have little air conditioning. The dorm rooms are pretty standard, very close together and small lockers. I would recommend this hostel if your travelling with a group as part of an Asia trip or Bangkok holiday where you won’t be there for very long...anything else and there are two much nicer hostels nearby; one next door called ‘3howw’ and just over the road is ‘oh Bangkok hostel’
Would I stay there again? Yes.
- GemmaFogW (6/5): Average place - Mint os okay for what you pay. Busy rooms with not functioning A/C where is quite hot. Breakfast is bread, banana, jam and butter, I avoided the jam and butter as they looked poisonous but banana and bread was fine with me. Showers a bit filthy. The good thing about it is the reception, even if it's quite hot there everybody hangs around on it as the rooms are even more hot, so it's a good place to meet people and make plans! Great place for budget travellers who are not too fussy 😉
- sullialice (6/5): Okay for the price - This is a very cheap hostel and you get what you pay for. It was in a good location for getting to Khao San road and I didn't find it too hard to get around Bangkok while being based here. The actual dorm room was very small with very little space outside your own bed, but you had privacy curtains. They had a very basic breakfast available in the morning and I would usually just take some fruit with me on my way out.
The staff were always friendly. The common area downstairs was okay. As a solo traveler, I ended up making friends with the people staying in my dorm room and some people I got chatting to in the common area.
The biggest inconvenience for me was the AC which was only turned on when a staff member came to your room around 6 pm, which made it impossible for me to sleep when I arrived jetlagged in the morning. They did let me check in early though which was good!
They let me use the showers as well. There is a toilet on each floor, but the only showers are downstairs which can be inconvenient. I didn't have any major problems as I always seemed to get the good shower (someone told me on my first day which one was the good one!).
There is a lot of room for improvement but for the really cheap price, I don't really have any complaints. I had a good stay here and this was only really a bed for a few nights!
- iigh (2/5): It's ok, I guess. - Hostel itself is 160 thb a night so you get what you pay for and with a free breakfast it's ok I guess. Room for aprovement in every space.
However now to the poor rating. Do not book any busses with these guys. I got a trip from Bangkok to Phnom penh and was totally ripped off. I feel like a fool. First of all we get to the bus (all good) they put me in the only broken seat even tho it was not my seat number (still ok with this at the point). They told me that I would arrive in Phnom penh at 11 but got here at 03.40. This was not the organized direct bus they sold it as.
Before the border the bus stops at a random place outside town and we got told to get off the bus and hand our passports over. They tell us all its 49 dollars for the visa. I have been to Cambodia before and I know this is wrong so I question it. They separated me from the others but still forced me to pay or I wouldn't have time to get on the same bus with the others. I sucked it up and payed them the money and crossed the border.
After the border I had to wait one hour to get put in a separate local bus that went small roads through villages and it really filled up (I've been on full busses before but we speaking 20 people in the isle).
Here I'm starting to get annoyed as the bus stops every 10 minutes to let people on and off. Ac was so cold the condensation was dripping from the roof.
The one food stop we did was at some local place and the people sat down to eat and they told me that it was 10 dollars for rice. Only thing I could afford was a bag of chips for 5 dollars. And yes dollars, they corrected me when I tried to pay with riel. Now this is hour 15 without food.
And because the buss rolled into Phnom penh at 03.40 i had already missed out on my check in and it was hard to reach out to any accommodation because I didn't have a Sim yet.
Mint hostel if you are aware about this company, you are evil. If you don't know this, have a seat on the bus and see for yourself and consider changing to stop people from getting ripped off.
I'm sorry guys but had to share to warn others. This is my first bad review and I'm not a complainer.
- Duettravelling (2/5): Better Choose Another Place to Stay - Booked for AC Room, found out that AC is only operate 6pm - 6am and it’s a small AC for a big room. Very hot at daytime. Floor is sticky and carpet mostly ruin and bed smell. 4 shower room for a whole hostel and one toilet at each floor (except top floor). Small lobby that also uses for breakfast area. Common space can’t provide enough room for guest. Staff talk English a little and not really friendly. OK for breakfast and WiFi.
- Getlostwithemi (4/5): Wouldn't go there again - Staff is not helpful or English speaker. the hostel it's just build in the wrong way.
Really thight spaces, each floor has ONLY one toilet for two 6 bed dormitory. There is not shelf, mirrors or hook in the toilet.
The showers are four and placed on the first floor (we were staying at the 3rd . 4 floor in total) right in front of the reception. There is not privacy at all, people from the street could actually see me in my bath towel.
Past but not least the breakfast is some bread, butter and a weird strawberry gelly, pointless!
- skelly9898 (2/5): don't believe the pictures - I've stayed in many hostels, and this one was by far the worst. only four showers for the whole hostel, only one has hot water, two of the showers shower heads just dangle because the holder is broken, no changing area so you have to hope that your clothes will not fall off the small rail that's only in two of the showers, the other two you just have to balance them on doorknob, the toilets are all disgusting and smell like a urinal. Lots of guests are older local men. A ten-bed dorm is only cooled down via one small fan. no real common area, only a small breakfast eating area at the reception, same place where the showers are, and none of these areas have ac or even a fan. Do your self a favor and stay in one of the hostels next door.
- daniel (6/5): Mint or Menthol? - Old and not kept clean. Smells.
- simoneu359 (10/5): Very nice stay - The hostel is in the best location of Bangkok, in a quite zone. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a great atmosphere. The beds are big and with a curtain for privacy. Bathrooms are clean. You can have coffee and tea during the day and bananas bread butter and jam for breakfast
