Guest Reviews
- John E (2/5): After Midnight - I want a full refund for Casa Memo! My other accomodations (The Backyard Hotel and Hotel Santo Tomas) were excellent as advertised. Hotel Casa Memo a disaster.
We informed the hotel prior to booking of our late arrival, and upon arrival at SJO, our Rental Car Company called the motel informing that we would be later, 0030 hours. We downloaded the directions for Hotels.com and also used our GPS. It directed us to the location of Avenida 4 and Calle 3. There we did not find the hotel, no sign or other information. It was now 0130-hours. At a nearby gas station we inquired about the location- no local men knew of such a place. We even gained the help of a local taxi driver. He was not familiar with the Hotel, but offered to take us to the location. We followed him circling the area several times. NO LUCK. It was now 0215-hours.
Our only alternative, was to drive toward Jaco (where we had booked at The Backyard Hotel for the following night), planning to find a hotel in route. We did not find accommodations until we arrived at The Backyard Hotel (Excellent) at 0345-hours and paid $80.00 for a few hours sleep.
It was through no fault on our part, our first hours in Costa Rica while memorable were not pleasant.
Also, prior to my booking at Hotel Casa Memo, I emailed them inquiring about book a rental car at their place. I never received a reply.
The outcome of my complaint may play on my decision to use Hotels.com in the future.
Thank you for you
- richie (8/5): Great value and comfort near SJO Airport! - I had a great evening staying at Casa Memo. The owner speaks english, though I arrived late and her grandmother let me in who only speaks spanish, but is working on her english. But was able to get in and into my room no problem. The area isn't the best, it is near the main city center and plazas of Alajuela. The house has strong metal gates at the front and razor wire in the back so it's very secure. Inside is large and comfortable. I felt at home. This was a great stay, I got out and explored the next day, went to the Living Park where there was a German culture festival. There are restaurants, Starbucks, shopping and banks all nearby.
- feel like home (10/5): Felt like home! Owner is very welcoming! - Eugenia is very welcoming. Property is very close to the airport by car and really convenient. There is also a lot of restaurant near by. If I go back to Costa Rica I Will definetely go back in casa Memo.
- kris (8/5): Cute quaint place - This place is about 10 minutes (without traffic) from the airport. It's on a small street with places to eat within walkable distance. The owner was extremely nice and kept in touch with me easily and set up a taxi For me to the airport early morning. For the price, the room was extremely clean and nice. I've stayed in hostels for the same price that wasn't so clean or well kept. It's very small but the room was a decent size. The bed was comfortable. It's a shared bathroom and the bathroom was very clean. I arrived late and don't speak any Spanish but the people that were there didn't speak English ( the owner speaks english so she called to help me get settled in). Since I arrived late I was so hungry but it was storming outside. The lady I believe was the house keeper went into the kitchen and fixed me up whatever snacks were available and made me coffee because she seen i wanted to eat but couldn't go outside because how bad it was raining. She was so sweet and helpful. The owners mom who was there was super nice and helpful too, both made me feel at home and safe. As far as the neighborhood the owner said it was safe enough to walk around but since it was raining I didn't get a chance to see what the neighborhood was like. The room has no TV but there's a nice little living room area for the guest with a TV. Over all for the price this was a nice place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice small place close to the airport - Great host, clean & comfortable room very close to the airport. Just what I needed between flights!
