Guest Reviews
- Daniela (10/5): - Beautiful accommodation, great breakfast, and super friendly staff. The place is a bit remote, but we were aware of that, as we wanted to be surrounded by tea plantations. Simply wonderful.
- Jeff (10/5): - Set on the edge of a tea garden, the hotel was beautiful, tranquil and well appointed. The staff were helpful.. and the breakfast excellent.
- Michael (10/5): - The opportunity to stay in a villa surrounded by tea fields was too hard to miss out on.
We arrived from Badula on the train and were welcomed by the staff at the house.
It was clean and comfortable and a 15 minute walk into town. The next morning we were given a great breakfast and then walked into the tea field adjoining the property. We watched the local women picking and sorting tea leaves. Certainly an authentic experience as we were in their backyard.
The staff we very helpful in organising our dinner to be delivered from a restaurant in town for us.
All in all, a wonderful experience that we would recommend, along with the amazing high tea at the Grand Hotel in town.
- Marcus (10/5): The charm of Nuwara Eliya - A charming boutique hotel in Nuwara Eliya! My family and I had a great stay here, the hospitality was second to none. From the welcome cup of tea to the morning breakfasts and games for the children, the colonial style was fantastic and made for a very welcome stay. The beds were conformable, the deluxe room had a lot of space and all the amenities you needed were provided. Highly recommended.
- Oliver (8/5): Welcome to old England in Sri Lanka - Actually an excellent stay in a more than interesting accommodation if there wouldn't be the smell of mold in the bathroom.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - it is good to provide toothbrushes, overall worth for the price , good service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff were very good. Breakfast needs more choices. Place was clean. Enjoyed our stay
- Tove (8/5): - Very nice place and staff! A bit cold and damp inside so bring warm clothes
- Elissa (4/5): Avoid ! - Very disappointed having booked and paid up front to be given a small room looking into a brick wall with the window painted white . The room and bathroom needed repainting it was very scruffy . The worst thing was the uncomfortable bed which needed a new mattress . There are lovely rooms with views shown on the website - this was not what we expected ! The breankfast was very good and the service was polite and welcoming but let down by the room
- Annie (10/5): Nice and comfortable stay - We stay one night in the Tea Garden hotel, which is conveniently situated about 45 min from the World’s End trail in Horton Plains. The room was spacious, accommodating our family of four perfectly, and the beds quite comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. They packed a breakfast for our family (and driver!) in the early morning when we left for the park. The hotel is about 20-minute walk from an Indian restaurant if you are
looking for dinner. Would recommend taking a cab when it’s dark as there isn’t any sidewalk for most of the way.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cute little hotel - The tea garden hotel is gorgeous and the staff are friendly and helpful. We booked the standard room which was a touch squishy but otherwise comfortable. The only negative was the close proximately to the kitchen and lounge (literally in the same room). This meant there was a lack of privacy and a lot of noise.
- David (8/5): 1 night at the Tea Garden - We stayed one night at the Tea Garden, there was a very warm welcome from the staff with tea and cakes and we were able to check in early which was appreciated. It’s a 15 minute walk to the lake but it really is a Tuk Tuk ride into town and the tea factory. The room was very clean, shower was hot, the wifi good and the breakfast excellent. The guys ordered us a Tuk Tuk to the train station (800 rupees which seemed a good price) in the morning for us when we checked out.
- Peter&Olya (8/5): - Set on the edge of town and set back from the road, so little traffic noise this smartly decorated small hotel was comfortable and great value for money. Unfortunately, painting in the bathroom next door whilst preparing for the season start transmitted odours that were a little annoying.
Staff were attentive professional and friendly. Breakfast (very good) only meal available, so to the popular restaurant five minutes away.
We were presented with a packet of local tea when leaving.
Convenient and value for money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All good recommend property All good recommend property All good recommend property
- parshwati (8/5): Good stay - The property is good. Beautiful location and warm and friendly staff. Highly recommended this place.
- Matan (6/5): Average for one night stay - Hotel is not very clean, bad smell in the shared area and in the room. Shower room is not clean, room is not well maintained. Bed is OK. WiFi not working on all areas.
- Nichola (10/5): - The staff were really friendly and very attentive and we got a very warm welcome at the property. The room was clean and the bed comfy. We were a but worried about there not being an A/C, but you do not need one in Nuwara Eliya as the climate is much cooler.
- Jennifer (10/5): True peace and quiet - Gorgeous stay at The Tea Garden! After arriving in the afternoon, putting down our bags and enjoying a cup of tea on the balcony, my husband and I went for a jog around Gregory Lake, followed by dinner at Indian Summer (great North Indian dishes). We then walked back to the house, where a power cut (cables brought down by a heavy goods vehicle further up the road) meant we truly enjoyed the space, instead of checking emails or other such non-holiday type behavior! A generator meant we had light through the night, and by morning everything was back to normal. Breakfast was delicious and fueled us up for a long drive down to Galle. All of the staff were so friendly, sweet and helpful. A wonderful break from the chaos of everyday life and connectivity.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good hotel. Would recommend. Beautiful location amongst the tea plantations
- Andy (10/5): big family room - The hotel is a bit out of town in a nice tea field. Hotel has a homestay atmosphere. Houses/rooms are new or nicely renovated. Staff was nice and prepared breakfast on the terrace. We had a really big family room.
- Anders (10/5): Review - Nice small hotel just a 10 minutes Tuc-Tuc ride to city center
- Madhu (8/5): Friendly, hospitable, but check room description - The room description on Hotels.com was misleading as it did not clarify that the standard room has no view but faces a wall.
Service was warm and friendly, smooth check in and otherwise a very hospitable property.
Location is fairly close to Lake Gregory and other attractions in Nuwara Eliya, and the cycle offers free bicycles (but no helmets or lights), which means it wasn't a good option for going around the motorways
- Ardelia (10/5): The highlight of our trip! - Our stay at The Tea Garden was the best experience we had in our trip to Sri Lanka. The house is located a few kilometres out of town amongst a tea plantation, which makes the property so serene -
besides the morning prayers from the Buddhist temple closeby, this too had surprisingly a calming impact to us. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Lahiru, our Host, delivered an exceptional service and was very accommodating to our needs. He also took me to a tea plantation tour and educated me on the history of tea. We wished we could've stayed longer at the cottage as this was the highlight of our overall trip!
- Angela (8/5): Comfortable stay with great service - The Tea Garden can be a little tricky to find as it is tucked in a small dirt road in front of the temple. Except for the daily 5-6am prayers from the temple, it is a very quiet place to stay. The staff, Lahiru has been very hospitable with making us tea and cookies and great breakfast. They even gave us a box of tea as a gift of appreciation. I will return to this place again. Thank you for the hospitality!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great friendly non-intrusive service. Place well kept. Staff super helpful. Nice decor.
- Kiera (8/5): Pleasant but nothing to shout about - Room was pleasant and clean, however, bathroom did have mould.
- ismet (10/5): Home in the tea garden - Lovely accommodation set amidst a tea plantation. The next morning the host graciously brought round on a short tour of the tea plantation behind our hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing Service. - Very friendly and accommodating hosts.
Nice walks around the hotel area.
- Bhaven (8/5): Home from home - We weren't pleased with the room to begin with but the staff went out of their way to get us a room we were satisfied with. They were very helpful.
Positives:
Lovely homely feeling
Afternoon tea was great
Location is OK
Staff member was extremely polite, friendly and helpful
Nicely decorated rooms
Negatives:
No fan or AC (because it's generally cold anyway)
Damp smell
- Laura (10/5): Family home - Lovely arrival with cake and tea and biscuits.
Even later when I was hungry and didn't want to go out in the rain, I asked if they had any snacks I could buy. They didn't but gave me cake and biscuits (lots of it!) with tea at no cost! Really friendly too and feels like a little English home.
- Matthew (8/5): Decent place but hotels.com post was inaccurate. - To begin with, the map and address shown on hotels.com was not accurate at all. Our driver had difficulty finding it after asking several people. It was NOT near the race track at all. The name on the sign at the main road was not The Tea Garden but down the road I could see it looked like the posting on hotels.com so we drove down that dirt road to ask.. No view of the lake at all. A long walk or tuk tuk ride to go out for dinner. The young man working this place was very polite and fixed a very nice breakfast (included) for us. This is the first time hotels.com information has been inaccurate for us in all of our travels.
- Emily (8/5): Relaxing guest house - A lovely guest house, staff very helpful and the room was very clean and comfortable.
