- Stephen (10/5): - Excellent property
- William (10/5): The Spur Hotel in Archer City, Texas - The Spur Hotel is the only hotel in Archer City, Texas--population 1601 according to the city limits sign. It was bought and renovated several years ago after standing empty for a period. The hotel was built in the early 20th century, and I am sure there were many traveling salesmen who stayed there. Today people come to Archer City to see the home of recently deceased national author, Larry McMurtry. The hotel is very nice, and the owner talked a long time about his experience in owning the hotel and his hopes to purchase Larry McMurtry's mansion in Archer City. I highly recommend.
- Norman (10/5): Gett’n Spur’rd. - First stay with no staff interaction. Arrived to a locked front door with note to use the Ring button. Got key instructions and was let into hotel. Not a B& B but had coffee, juice, water and pastries. Great experience.
- Buddy (10/5): - Easy check in & very nice stay!
- George (10/5): Excellent stay - Wow, better than expected.Brutily cold weather, great for deer hunting, but very comfortable inside by the giant fireplace. The place was the cleanest and most enjoyable historic place in Archer City.We shaii return. Thanks

- Sharon (10/5): Hidden Jewel - We had a great stay here and will stay here when we return. A hidden jewel in Archer City!!
- Juan (10/5): Hotel with charm - Family owned Bussines,,, realy friendly place.
- Jennifer (8/5): - We loved staying at the Spur Hotel. Dottie, the owner, is friendly and helpful. Even saw her across the street at the diner and we stopped by the table to say hello.
Not much to do in this small town, but if you need somewhere to stay on your journey, I would definitely recommend The Spur Hotel!
- Danny (8/5): - Great place to stay in Archer City. Friendly staff, basic amenities, quiet location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice clean hotel. Highly recommend staying here.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Love this hotel - This was my 2nd time to stay at the Spur Hotel. It was very clean. I will definitely be coming back. Thanks Dottie
- craven (6/5): - Classic and very Classy Hotel. A step back in time, and very memorable. I will be back!
- D. (10/5): - The property was so adorable and had some unique features. The building has historic charm. The rooms were cozy and comfortable. They had a very clean atmosphere overall. The bathroom was perfect and came with a nice bathtub with sparkling white towels. We enjoyed our stay here very much.
- Benjamin W (10/5): - Old west furnishings remind you you're in cattle country. Comfortable beds, clean room, and generous bath with water that was "good n hot".
- James (10/5): - This hotel is awesome! Very clean, comfortable beds, cold air conditioning (which is nice in Texas in summer!), and very helpful staff.
- Steven (10/5): A Secret Gem - The Spur is always a great break from the ordinary. We love the clean, simple rooms, partly because of the lack of distractions like TV and telephone. Dottie and John are terrific hosts and always treat us like family. We feel like we really know a secret, when we attend an incredible show at the Royal Theater and stay at this Texas gem of a hotel!
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Friendly staff, very clean rooms. Love it.❤
- Sandra (10/5): - The owners were friendly and helpful. We really like the Spur!
- Matthew (10/5): Best WF area stay! - My daughter and I absolutely loved our stay! Due to our travel plans, I called ahead and arranged for an after hours arrival- and it could not have been easier. Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that we received a free room upgrade to the Lonesome Dove Suite. As a lifelong Larry McMurtry fan, that was very spectacular. The decor and atmosphere of the entire hotel- from the front door, to the hotel room itself- was absolutely fantastic. Great atmosphere. Very comfortable and cozy. We frequent the Wichita Falls area often for family and friends, and this was by far my favorite area accommodation experience ever. We will definitely be back!
- Frank (10/5): Step back in time. - Always a nice relaxing stay!
- Allen (10/5): A PERFECT STAY - Wonderful old hotel that has been restored but still has lots of character. I had an excellent, spacious room with a great bed. It’s all spotlessly clean and scrupulously maintained. The owners are a delightful couple, native to the area. Recommendations: Find a good book and relax beside the lobby fireplace enjoy the solid home cooking at Murn’s cafe across the street.
- Andrea (10/5): - Wonderfully charming hotel with warm and friendly staff.
- Raymond (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable! We had a wonderful stay! We'll be back.
- Aaron (10/5): Historic - The Spur Hotel is very clean and well kept. It's persona is timeless and, if you like old westerns the Spur gives you the feeling that Festus and Marshal Dillon may knock at any moment.
- TJ (10/5): - Small quiet country town with this uniquely beautiful historical hotel!! Loved everything about it and will stay there again!
- Margaret (10/5): - We stayed here while attending a funeral last weekend. The staff was excellent. Very friendly and the room was very clean. We will definitely stay here if we come back to Archer City, Tx.
- John (10/5): - Was exactly what we were looking for. Clean, neat, and quiet.
- Tim (10/5): - Great property for a couple’s getaway
- james (8/5): - Was rustic but elegant, nice stay
- Frank (10/5): Historical - Pleasant
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My daughter stayed here and she always does when she visits AC!
- Hugh (6/5): - Convenient. Excellent parking. Unique.
- Rebecca (10/5): Step back in time! - We had a very pleasant stay at a very difficult time in our family's life. Thank you for enabling us to have precious family time in a unique environment.
- Gigi (6/5): - Pros: The lady who manages the hotel was very nice and accommodating.
The towels were nice. The bed was pretty comfortable. Plenty of pillows. Convenient plug by the bed. Nice little closet with a light in it ... only hooks but that was all I needed for the night.
It was close to my early morning booking so that was why I chose it.
Snacks were fresh in the lobby and the Keurig worked well and I brought my own but they had a good selection of pods.
Cons:
I wasn't fond of the room or bed size. Very small, all of it. My husband was supposed to come with me but got sick at the last minute so he couldnt. It was better for him though because he would have been at least a little claustrophobic and the (queen) bed would not have been big enough for the both of us.
The hot water came out at a very hight temp... so it would have easily burned if I hadnt been paying attention.
The shower was too strong and not adjustable.
Although I knew in advance that there were no in room ammenities like microwave, refrig or coffee maker it was still an adjustment.
With all of that said, I probably wont stay there again unless I do cone to Archer City alone.
Overall a cute and convenient hotel that feels like a B&B but be prepared for having to climb stairs to the rooms.
I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars for room size. Not a good value for the price, mostly for that reason.
- Cliff (10/5): The Spur - This is a quaint place with a lot of character. Although no tv in room, it didn’t ruin the visit. Very quiet and comfortable.
- jon c. (10/5): Thank you for the ease and hospitality - Our hotel suite was very clean and they have accommodation for late-night check-in which came in handy. Beds are comfy and the staff is helpful and communicates ahead of time what to do. They also have some to-go breakfast items like bars and juice and yogurt along with bottled water and OJ and tea/coffee for you to hit the road with. A nice mix of old world and new world.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I absolutely loved my stay at the Spur Hotel! Great accommodations right in the heart of downtown and a two minute walk to the Royal Theater, Booked Up, or the delicious Murn's Cafe. The lobby area is very cute, decked out with books and an awesome fireplace that will be amazing during the colder months. The room was very comfortable and the perfect size for 1 - 2 people. The owners, Dotty and Johnny, were so welcoming and kind. I loved chatting with them about the area and the hotel. I quickly became a fan of Archer City and, as a huge Larry McMurtry fan, I plan to make many more trips to the area. The Spur Hotel will be at the top of my list for all future stays!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a last century hotel with lots of established charm. There are multiple spaces where one can eat, read, relax, chat, or play games. There is very little to do in Archer City so this is a wonderful way to experience the charm of small town life.
- Martha (10/5): Perfect charming hotel. - Nice rustic and charming hotel, very friendly host clean room and comfortable. We stayed one night and was perfect!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The hotel itself is nice enough with an 'old timey' feel - hardwood floors, western decor, etc. However, during our stay WE NEVER SAW ANOTHER PERSON! No other guests, no hotel staff, nothing! When we arrived at 915pm, well before the 10pm cut off, we found a small box labeled in hand-written pen 'self check-in' that had our key in it. So anyone could've walked in and taken our room! The room was nice enough, tho there is significant water damage in the bathroom complete with peeling paint and a mouldy smell. The bed was pleasantly made for us, but as my husband and I got in, we both slid towards the middle. The mattress was so soft, and so worn, there was no way to sleep comfortably. Needless to say, it was the worst night's sleep either of us has ever had in a hotel. Early the next morning, we awoke to leave at 815am. We expected coffee and the breakfast promised, yet again - not a single person was there. The coffee is a keurig machine - help yourself, obviously. The 'breakfast' was a fridge of a few single serving yogurts and expired fruit cups. The fruit bowl had fruit that clearly was a few days too far gone. There was no one to talk to about the room or to check out with - again, just a box that now had room keys left in them. We left our key, and walked out hungry, having never seen another soul. With all this said, I can honestly say we will not be back EVER, nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love the hotel, everything from the room, check-in, the owners, was a great visit! Love the large fireplace!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We really liked this place for it's Texas culture and Historical nature. Hope to come back sometime soon.
