Guest Reviews
- David (10/5): - Very cosy and well equiped room. Excellent breakfast and very hospitable host. Would thoroughly recommend. Parking very tight but that’s a very minor issue overall.
- Peter (10/5): Voortreffelijk!
- Ashley (10/5): - Breakfast, the room, and the building. Lovely host. I really enjoyed my stay. Martin
- sharon (10/5): - Lovely quiet location full of character and close to amenities
- Dave (8/5): -
- milton (9/5): Lovely stay! - Beautiful courtyard and decor. Comfortable bed and room. Breakfast was AMAZING. Allen was a great host! Stairs to room are bit steep for those with issues.
- Raymond (10/5): Just very good. - A very nice property, and very good host. Nil.
- ros (9/5): Totally relaxing and comfortable - Very attractive period property in quiet location. Lovely interior and comfortable clean spacious room. Proper English breakfasts. Host Alan was very helpful and informative. Garden was beautiful and it was lovely to have tea outside on arrival.
- Anne (8/5): Very enjoyable stay - Comfortable and clean, great breakfast Can’t think of anything!
- J Wright (10/5): Lovely break in Shepton mallet - Beautiful Maplestone cottage!
Alan was super friendly and couldn't be more accommodating. Gave us tips for the local area and nothing was too much trouble. The bed was so comfortable, we melted into it! breakfast 10/10. We will definitely be back!
- Diana (10/5): A perfect host, and a really outstanding, comfortable ‘home from home’. I was lucky enough to experience perfect wister - It is quite beautiful, with the most comfortable accommodation anyone could ask for Nothing
- Susan (9/5): - Peaceful but convenient. Beautiful house and walled garden. Private
- Diana (10/5): -
- ELAINE (10/5): Delightful stay. - Breakfast was very good, such a lovely dining room. Very quiet accommodation. Very old and quaint. Close walk to pubs to eat out in the evening ( Poachers Pocket ) excellent food and good prices. The only very small gripe I had was the stairs up to our room, I have less mobility so the narrow stairs were difficult, I would stay here again though. Our host was very friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks for a lovely stay. No problems, this is a delightful property.
- Emilie (10/5): Ett B&B så som man tänker sig! - Mycket mysigt boende med härliga rum och trevlig värd.
- Thomas Chapman (10/5): A genuine 5 star B&B - comfortable all-round stay! - Everything oozed quality and attention to detail. The Potting Shed had a separate Lounge to the Bedroom which was ideal. The garden was beautifully kept and attracted so many different species of birds and insects. Host Alan was an excellent and offered good insights to local places and attractions. When all four letting rooms are hired, parking can be 'challenging' - access to the property is via a narrow no-through road and if the designated parking outside the double garages is fully occupied, then turning a larger vehicle around is awkward (especially when a third guest car is parked on the grass track just outside the property curtilage)
- Louis (9/5): Beautiful home and memorable stay. - Alan was a fantastic host and the attention to detail was exceptional. He was extremely knowledgeable about the local area and always happy to help. The rooms were lovely and clean and had everything you needed. They were the perfect mix of luxury and comfort. The garden is beautiful. The breakfast was really good, lots of choice, with good quality ingredients and very filling. Overall maplestone had a lovely, cosy feel to it and we’d definitely recommend to others.
- Anke (10/5): Phänomenal. -
- Inger (10/5): A great place to stay. - A lovely, charming cottage with a beautiful garden. A very friendly host who gave us lots of tips on what to see in the area. Great breakfast! We didn’t dislike anything.
- Sharon (10/5): Wonderful BnB in beautiful Somerset - Cannot rate Maplestone highly enough.
Ideal location for exploring East Somerset, Wells, Bath, Cheddar Gorge nearby.
Our room was very comfortable and had everything we needed.
Breakfast perfect and Alan gave us so much
information on the history of Shepton Mallet and of the surrounding area.
Wish could have stayed longer Nothing
- Padraig (8/5): Wonderful comfortable room and peaceful ambiance - Top quality ingredients and personal touch at breakfast.
- Aziyadé (8/5): Comfortable and very welcoming - Rooms were great, beds so comfortable and the welcome was amazing. The house is super cute and welcoming so honestly highly recommend and would go back. Honestly very little, the only thing I would say is that there were a few hairs in the bathroom which I didn't love.
- LK (10/5): - We were in the Loft room. It is a beautiful large room with its own entrance and ensuite. We slept well. Breakfast was delicious.
Lovely location. We would thoroughly recommend Maplestone.
- Alex (10/5): Lovely stay - Alan greeted us on arrival and showed us to our room. It was a lovely, comfortable room, warm and cosy especially as we had driven through some snow showers to get there.
Lots of recommendations were given about eating out plus areas of interest to visit.
Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and nothing seemed too much trouble.
We would certainly return if we came back to that area again and would highly recommend it to others. Nothing to dislike !

- Derek (9/5): Relaxing and welcoming - Lovely place and the owners went above & beyond to make our stay welcoming and comfortable. Always on hand to give advice on local area & best places to visit. Excellent stay
- Karen (9/5): Highly recommended - Almost everything!
The breakfast was superb and the host was very helpful and informative Because of the age of this beautiful property the floor boards were quite noisy and creaky but I suppose that’s adds to the charm and character
- Anthony Worsdell (10/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): Quiet, cosy and comfortable. - A lovely quiet and historic BnB - our room was clean, spacious and well equipped with very comfortable beds. Breakfast was great and Alan was a friendly host. Very much recommended. Nothing I can think of.

- Philip (10/5): An amazing place to stay - Lovely place, amazing breakfast, great host, Nothing
- Aimee (10/5): I can’t imagine ever finding better. - It’s a truly stunning period property, and feels more like a boutique hotel than a very reasonably priced B&B.
Alan was the perfect host- truly cares about giving guests the best experience, and puts real love into what he does there.
The breakfasts were genuinely the best cooked breakfasts we’ve had in many years, and I’m a chef by trade. The meat was locally sourced, and the continental offering was above and beyond what anyone might reasonably expect. Honestly, the whole experience blew us away, and we’re already trying to work out when we can return.
- Aleksandra (10/5): -
- Debbie (10/5): - Alan’s attention to detail is fantastic and the choice and range of breakfast was amazingly delicious! The house is beautifully presented, yet homely and welcoming.
- Riley (10/5): A Thoughtful Stay with a Homely Touch - Our stay at Maplestone was peaceful, comfortable, and full of charm. Alan was an exceptional host, every morning began with a delicious, freshly prepared breakfast that made the whole experience feel extra special. The room was neat, quiet, and welcoming, with just the right balance of privacy and hospitality. A lovely retreat we’d happily return to, especially for those breakfasts! Honestly nothing!
- Heidi (10/5): Superb! - The accommodation was absolutely beautiful. The owner made us feel very welcome. His hospitality was exceptional. Variety of breakfast options. I highly recommend. Great location. I couldn’t fault anything.

- Helen (10/5): The perfect stay in Shepton Mallet - Beautiful absolutely beautiful. My friend and I were attending a ghost hunt in Shepton Mallet jail which was a lovely 5 minute stroll from Maplestone. Alan is a lovely, friendly Host that is happy to stop and chat over breakfast, filling us in on all the places to eat and more importantly shop! Maplestone is a perfect base for Bath/Bristol/Glastonbury and my new Favorite place Wells. Breakfast was just perfect, a lovely selection of fruit/yoghurt/cereals and then a cooked breakfast which was lovely and served with a smile. The room was beautifully decorated and with quality bedding. Safe to say we’d love to come back
- David (9/5): Characterful cottage close to town centre. - Extremely comfortable room with bags of character throughout the house.
