Viviane (5/5): It was descent but probably never returning. - It’s pretty from the outside and it is near everything. The room is extremely small, small tv, no where to sit beside’s the bed. The room was boiling hot when I arrived. The carpets are dirty going up to my room.

I originally had rented a room on the second/third floor but I brought a friend who is disabled (can’t climb stairs) and requested a first floor instead. Super nice about switching us but the room was so small, to the point you can’t even walk by each other. The shower was small you can’t even bend down, without hitting your head on the knobs getting up “ouch” and the sink was tucked in a corner of the main room outside the bathroom, no drawers “nothing” and the fridge was in between the beds stacked on top of each other, on top of the little dresser and just don’t bump it, it wobbled. The beds (mattresses) were so bumpy and slanted all to one side., you had to basically brace yourself during the night. Director the slanting. Tossed and turned all night. Plus we downsides and the room was $48 more than the suite I originally reserved but they did waive the additional fee. That was so nice but I wondered what the suite was like. Just saying!

Paulsen (10/5): Great. - Very beautiful, the second oldest hotel in Avalon. Very large property as well as the balconies are very quaint. I thought everything was perfect. If you’re expecting something super fancy, then this is not it, this is going to be a great staff, as many amenities as you need, a working TV and good AC, as well as heater, kitchens included in your room, as well as a full sized fridge and pots and pans. Everything was extremely clean, the bed was sparkling clean. All in all great stay, I would recommend.

They said water view room when only 2 rooms has a water view and were booked. Room was so teensy there was no room for suitcases you had to crawl on the bed to get to the other side of the bed. Shower was teensy. We booked this as a romantic get away and that was hard to do with this room. No night stand was very irritating.

We were accommodated to a different room after letting the front desk staff know about the issue, However we weren’t upgraded to a nicer room for the inconvenience. The bed sheets were disgustingly dirty and not changed or replaced with clean bedding upon arrival for check-in. The hotel room had filthy floors. The pillows were very flat and run down.

The room smelled VERY strongly of cleaner and we had to air out the room for hours to get the smell out of the room. The room was also recently renovated but it looked very cheap and not renovated at all. I would not recommend this hotel to my friends and family.
Paskiewicz (10/5): I would absolutely 100% stay there again. - It was cute. The room i stayed in had a mini kitchen, a comfy bed and a bathroom. The overall space is quite small but it works. Depending on the room, it might be up a couple flights of stairs, but it wasn't much of a bother. Everything you could need, the room had (ie soap and sponge at the sink, microwave, dishes and pans under the sink, makeup remover packets in the bathroom, a hairdryer, iron, hangers..) They have an area to store luggage in case you arrive early and rooms aren't ready. They also have a seating area and small bar next to that storage area. I wish all hotels had that kind of accommodation.. And staff was AMAZING. I will have to see if my friend remembers her name... But the woman that helped us get it rooms was incredible. The flights of stairs, even though they didn't bother me... My travel companion was complaining a lot.. which is funny because after the initial 2 steps to get up into the area, she only had one set to climb and i had 2. By "climb" , i mean like, 4 steps. Other than that... I have no real complaints... I would absolutely 100% stay there again.

The place is very conveniently located walking distance from both the ferry and the Casino Point dive spot. Beds were not the most comfortable.

drmohsin250 (10/5): Amazing stay - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent stay at Hermosa Hotel – highly recommended! We had a wonderful stay at the Hermosa Hotel on Catalina Island. The location is fantastic—just steps from the Catalina Express dock, golf cart and bike rentals, and only a 5–7 minute walk to all the main restaurants. The famous Catalina Casino is about a 7-minute walk away as well. The staff truly made our experience exceptional. Everyone was kind, welcoming, and very accommodating. A special shout-out to Mr. Sualo with whom we booked over the phone. He was fantastic, along with the other wonderful ladies at the front desk. Knowing that our return boat was at 3:50 pm and that the weather was windy and rainy, another staff named Deming graciously allowed us to stay longer at no extra charge, which we really appreciated. We were a family of five and stayed in a family room with two queen beds and a pull-out queen sofa—very comfortable and spacious. The room was clean and well-maintained, and having a full stove, oven, medium-size refrigerator, and room heater was a big plus. Another great feature was the additional bathrooms and showers on the second floor. Overall, it was a clean, comfortable, and stress-free stay in a perfect location. We had a great experience and would highly recommend Hermosa Hotel to anyone visiting Catalina Island.

620kendyh (2/5): Hotel was Horrible!! - My best friend and I take a girls trip every year, and this year we went to Catalina Island and stayed at the Hermosa hotel. We knew ahead of time that this island is very old and historical and that was one of the reasons why we wanted to go. With that being said, our room was disgusting and beyond horrifying. We found a crack pipe behind the toilet. I immediately contacted the front desk and she came and collected It, she confirmed that that’s what it was as well. I asked for a refund and she said she would speak to her to the owner to find out what they can do to compensate us Unfortunately, we did not get refunded our money, but was only offered $120. We could not find another hotel in the area as everything was booked therefore, we were stuck in this disgusting room for the entire time we were on the island. You could not walk on the floor barefooted it was filthy. The beds were extremely old and uncomfortable and the pillows. Lord knows how long they’ve had them. They need to be thrown away and replaced. There was a 2 Liter soda, cap hot glued to the peep hole in the inside of the door. There was a hole in the wall that you could see outside to where the cable came in to hook up to the TV. All the dishes were dirty and had stuff on them. The hot water either scolded Your skin or froze you in the shower. There was no easy way to adjust the right temperature while showering. It was terrible. All of the walls and trim were caked with filth and dirt. The coffee in the lobby was either empty or not there and available when you needed it. It’s a complete insult to only have been refunded the $120 for a room that cost over $200 a night. We were there from the 16th of October to 20 October. My strong opinion is this hotel should be closed down and renovated. Overpriced disgusting filthy and excuses that it’s just an old room. Dirt does not make a room old. On the last day I woke up with an eye infection and had to go to the urgent care when I got home just to find out that I had gotten an infection in my eyes which required antibiotic drops. I am positive. This is from the gross pillows And the filthy room. Please be aware they don’t care that you’re complaining and they will do nothing to update or fix any of this. The crack pipe alone should say it all! I would love my money back.

Paint was peeling off the walls, the shower was tiny, the room was small, the views from the room were horrible, if you pulled out the sofa bed it was difficult to get between the bed & refrigerator, we didn’t have hot water one morning, the decor was cheap…

Christopher (4/5): Meh. Okay if you just need a cheap place to sleep and shower. Keep your expectations low. - Loved the coffee and really appreciated the convenient bag storage area. The staff were friendly, and the location was great. The room smelled strongly of cleaning detergent. The bathroom light didn’t work, and the room itself was extremely small—almost the same size as the bathroom. It’s in need of a paint job, and the white privacy paint on the window was very poorly done. The room gets extremely hot in the afternoon; when we checked in, it was blazing because the AC hadn’t been turned on. One bathroom light and the TV didn’t work. The carpet and laminate flooring in the common areas were noticeably damaged. At $150 per night, the room might be acceptable, but we paid more than double due to the event weekend, and the accommodations definitely didn’t justify the price.
Maria Luisa Hernandez (5/5): - The staff were awesome and friendly but after hours it was hard to contact anyone. We had issues with our pullout bed. The mirror was too high in the bedroom and the only one in the bedroom. It was kind of tight in the room and it was hard going up the stairs.

Rodney (4/5): - Our room had a leaky bathroom sink/water connection that my gf slipped in and nearly fell. Additionally the bathroom light flickered and had no windows. These issues were reported early the morning following checkout and the sink was not fixed u til late afternoon. The light was reported as fixed but wasn’t. While this hotel was a budget choice, the previous reviews and rating made this hotel appear to be a bargain. It wasn’t. The hall carpet was old and in disrepair. Close to most conveniences of Avalon but that’s the best I can say. Do not recommend.
Herlinda (5/5): If you just need a place to stay for the night it’s good but definitely nothing luxurious about it. Location is perfect - I liked that we can drop our luggage off and see Catalina since check in wasn’t till 4 that was helpful. It didn’t look as fresh as the pictures paint and everything was just old and kinda run down looking. Shower head had mold around it and ceiling fan had random wires to turn on. Tv didn’t work at all.

Tim (4/5): Very disappointing, we walked out after getting our room. - No breakfast Pictures used on website make this place look pretty nice. It is not, the room was extremely small, cracks in the ceiling, and just appeared overall very old and falling apart. Was so bad I took the loss of money and walked out. We booked at another hotel for the night that was much better.

Raul (4/5): - Online states bar which was reason I booked here and they mentioned they do not have license to sell alcohol. Also paid for ocean view and no ocean view at all! Not the room I booked in pictures. Sorry but this was not a very clean room and host did not come to clean or deliver towels to our room. Disappointing.
Angela (8/5): - Not too far of a walk from the ferry which I enjoyed. The shower curtain let a lot of water get onto the floor which meant I had to sacrifice 1 out of 2 towels and it got dirty. AC was cold. Easy check in and out. I would probably stay again

Johanna (10/5): - Staff so friendly and helpful. Cottage Room was clean and perfect for my accommodations. AC was working wonderful!!! Fresh coffe all day at the front desk. Storage room for lounge very convenient!!
Lucy (4/5): - There was nowhere to sit. Shower was tiny, water temp fluctuates, nothing to hang up a coat or towels or anywhere to put your toiletries or any other personal items and bed had wheels so it was always rolling around but the bed was comfortable. The staff was nice but the cottage was tiny and old and uncomfortable. The room key always took 5 to 6 trys before it would open. The only light in the room was a light on the ceilingfan bright enough to land an airplane so we had to turn on the bathroom light and close the door so the light over the mirror would turn on. I had a small fridge on my side of the bed the girgled all night and my husband had sink with a very small table between the sink and the bed. I would never stay here again.
