• Jay (2/5): - I travel expensively and this is, without a doubt, the worst motel ever. After seeing their "best room", I requested a refund, which was not honored. Even so, I couldn't stay there and sought alternate accommodations. On a scale from of 1 to 5 stars, this property is a minus 3.
• Linda (2/5): don't stay here - This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Everything was dirty, the bed, the towels, the carpet. I had to ask for the remote for the TV and AC. The AC remote did not work, the front desk attendant stood on the bed to reach to turn on the AC.

• Catherine (2/5): - It's basically a local 'paid' shelter. No smoking signs in lobby, but furniture had numerous burn stains and ashes. Heavily stained carpet. Dingy looking linen, but did smell freshly laundered. No security, i.e. chain on room door, which looked like it has previously been busted in. Simple door lock that like you'd find on a bathrook door. Exterior room door looked like it has been previously busted in. Although there are young mothers with children who evidently live there, it's not a place for the "faint hearted" who also might feel threatened by young men idling near-by. LOL BTW, it took mgr several hours to find a tv remote after searching other rooms, despite no vacancy other than one near lobby awaiting a guest who was paying $150 for the night. (So I was told. Didn't know if that was real or an attempted hustle for me to pay for an upgrade.)LMAO Anyway, I slept soundly with the only chair hooked up under the door knob.

• Sophia (10/5): - They guy and his wife are pretty descent people and they have great customer service, very friendly. Rooms are okay and clean. There is everything around the hotel from Walgreens to McDonald's and downtown is a 10 minute walk.
• Donald (2/5): - I was greatly disappointed when arriving and seeing questionable people loitering around the front door. The dumpster at the rear of the parking area was overflowing greatly. The front desk clerk was very kind. Before he would accept our non-refundable payment he gave my husband the room key for him to check it out. My husband said the room was awful and the sheets were stained. Needless to say we left and found another room. This hotel being on Expedia's list is extremely disappointing. We were looking simply for a place to sleep after conducting some business in Waterbury. That's why the low rating was not alarming. We were not looking for amenities but simply a night's rest. I would never under any circumstances recommend this hotel.

We pulled into the garage next door and were promptly approached by 2 different men wanting to sell us something. The neighborhood looks run down and drug infested. We did not feel safe to stay there.

• marisolmF5511XI (8/5): Great for a short stay - The staff was super helpful and very polite, and they solved any problems that my family and I had during our stay. When there were problems with the flooring, they called someone in to come in and fix it and fix anything else we had any issues with. They were very welcoming.
• Dale (4/5): Felt Iffy, but was good enough for the night. - The man behind the bullet proof glass was very nice and insisted he show me the room before charging my card. I appreciated that. The room was bare bones, but did have a TV. I wondered if they had an hourly rate, but didn't ask. There is a reason why it is the cheapest hotel listed in the area. I was tired, it was late and raining and I needed to rest. I took the room. It was adequate. It was quiet all night, and my car was still there in the morning. My heart goes out to struggling businesses like this who are trying to stay open in a bad economy.

THE OWNERS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES - This motel is the most disgusting nasty filthy every unclean word you can think of suits this motel canceled on the spot. The smell was got awful the carpets haven't been vacuumed bugs everywhere terrible customer service mold in the rooms.
• dianageis (2/5): Not appropriate!! - Not an appropriate place to stay. Very dirty. Carpet not vacuumed. Dirty linen and bed cover. I used blankets from my car to sleep on top of the bed. I used wipes from my car to clean all surfaces. Quite filthy. No mirror in the bathroom or shelf to set things on. Appears to be transitioning to a shelter?
• Diana (6/5): Close to uninhabitable. - Dirty. I asked them to vacuum, please. They said there is no vacuum cleaner. Carpet very dirty. Stains and dirt on bed spread. I slept on blankets from my car. I slept with shoes on and clothes on. No mirror in bathroom. No place to set anything in bathroom. Wooden table and chair in room were dirty. I cleaned them with sanitizer wipes. Smell of stale air. No bedside reading light or table. Only ceiling light. (I needed a place for the night. Other places booked. This was $74 ($87 with tax). I plan to ask for a partial refund. Not much sleep. Also fire alarm located in the room went off. When I called the desk, they said it does that when someone takes a hot shower somewhere else in the building???? I was asleep!!!

I would say that Expedia is bringing is reputation down just by association with this property. I wouldn’t stay there for free anymore

When we asked about the condition of the room was told that was the only one available and take it up with hotels.com we called hotels and was offered no money back very unfair the pictures on your website doesn't match the room we was given i add photes and you can see the room the heater and ac was well over 8 feet off the floor anx was notveven able to control it because not tall enough

Had to leave after a couple days of hours of waiting for service. Got told they bring a portable heater not never came. Place feels unsafe with the crowd of ppl coming in and out. Not recommended to anyone.

I booked an overnight room to stop 1/2 way on a long trip and when I got there the lady took one look at me and said, "We don't have any non-smoking rooms." Best to go find another hotel unless you want to be in a smoking room.
• Andrew Van (4/5): - The two star rating on this property is very generous. The property is aged and in poor condition. The environment is dodgy to say the least. Lots of people milling around with nowhere to be. However, the water was hot and the pressure was good, and peculiarly the lavatory tissue was very good quality if that is important for you. The police removing a decesaed person two rooms down from us in the morning was a little off-putting, but not entirely surprising. You have been warned.

• Frankly (2/5): - If there was a negative rating we'd pay to give it! The hotel was a rat hole. I can't fathom the rationale behind Expedia putting their name and reputation behind such a mess. The room was dirty, smelly and the walls seemed to have vomit splattered all over. The bed sheets, rags and towels were all dirty. There was even faeces on the carpet outside the hallway. Being tired and trying to somehow find the mental space to deal with this horror, we requested a change of sheets and was told they didn't have any clean bedding available. That was the final straw. We immediately checked out, not even spending an hour in the place and subsequently requested a refund. This is by far the worst experience we've ever had regarding a booked hotel room. Expedia can kiss our business goodbye as we'll never use them again. Now they seem to be stone-walling our refund! Moreover I had to re-edit this post numerous times. Though it's obvious this kind of vetting escaped the room they rented us, let's see if this re-edit passes Expedia's smell-test.
• Melanie (2/5): Worst motel ever - The room was dirty. The bedding was stained with cigarette burns. The wall had wires hanging out of it. There was no shower curtain in the shower. The refrigerator didnt work. There was no trashcan in the room. The air conditioner only cooled the room a little. I was there for five days and no one came to clean the room the entire time. I requested clean towels and no one ever brought them. I had no other options because of cost so i was stuck there for five days but i will never stay there again.

My girlfriend picked up a towel that had dried blood in it. No hair shampoo. It was a horrible motel. It was filthy everywhere even in the lobby. The morning front desk agent didn't even bother to ask me how my stay was.

• 7edj (2/5): DISCUSSED.... - Booking was difficult (should have been my 1st red flag) very limited parking. check in was almost easy...reserved two nights, for smoke free room, only to find out that they only had us down for one. took us to the room it had no heat nor a seat for the toilet. next room had no lights...next one (3rd) reeked of smoke and pot...last one was a least acceptable, barely. Bare bones room; bed, mini fridge, that did not seem to be working, exhaust fan did not work, light above sink was out, no mirror in bathroom (the one in the room was yellow with smoke residue), had to set sideways on toilet (6 to 8 inches from front of stool to wall), carpet was very, very dirty, tv didn't work at all, and cigarette ashes everywhere. People yelling and fighting inside and out for half the second night. things that were advertised but didn't exist, coffee pot, microwave, toiletries, fresh towels etc....Really screwed up overall... would not recommend this place to a homeless family if it were free...I give it a minus 5 out of 10 rating...no rooms anywhere in the building look even close to the one in the ads...

• Brenda (4/5): Never again - It's filthy and does not feel safe. There was no deadbolt on my door, just a pushbutton lock. The bathroom door had been removed from the hinges. The area was sketchy at best - lots of people begging for money, empty alcohol bottles on the sidewalk. Worst of all, when I woke up the next morning, I saw two very much alive bedbugs on the sheets. I was hoping they were some other kind of bug, but after checking Google Images and a couple of pest control sites, they were DEFINITELY bedbugs.

Drove four hours to find this out. Plus I was extremely scared my vehicle would be robbed overnight. This place is shady!
• Hotelguyyyy (10/5): Excellent - I was completely blown away by how nice it was to stay at the Big Apple. As a single guy, I’ve found it difficult to meet women. Within 5 minutes at the BA, 3 young ladies wanted to spend time with me. I felt like a movie star. Management’s commitment to safety is second to none. The bullet-proof glass in the lobby shows just how much ownership cares about their employees. Safety first!!! As a diabetic, I was excited to see that all rooms are equipped with a needle recycling program. I’d personally get a sharps box instead of placing the old needles on the sink, but I appreciate the effort. If you are traveling in Waterbury, I highly recommend the Big Apple.
• ScottH311 (2/5): Keep driving you can’t be that that tired - This was the only place available under $200. Had to dodge the substance abusers in the parking lot. Had two offers for company before I made the front door. The front desk is behind bulletproof glass and rightfully so. The sign says no extra guests after 10pm. And absolutely no refunds. The noise was incredible all night long but the fire alarm at 4 am was the kicker. I left, the manager said it was a false alarm but I saw no fire truck and decided to leave. I will pay the $200 next time. I got no sleep!!

Litter box smell when you first enter your room. Rude lobby staff. The tv channels were snowy. Absolutely nasty and dangerous needs a health department check!
• Sebjit69 (10/5): Lifesavers - Happened to find this place during a family road trip. After having no luck finding a hotel with reasonable prices we almost gave up looking. Then after stopping in Waterbury to get gas we found this motel. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. The location is right in the center of Waterbury which makes it easier to get to and to find food. Rooms were almost spotless and the prices were great. I would definitely recommend this motel to anybody who is passing through the area and needs a place to stay without worrying about getting their money’s worth.
• Umarusa22 (10/5): Cheap and Quick! - Paid $80 for a room that was surprisingly spacious and the check in process was like 2 minutes! The free wifi was fast. The shower was hot just like I wanted and there were plenty of towels. Would definitely stay again!
• joetm684 (10/5): I thought my stay here was awesome and i did have my doubts - I Live in waterbury so i know the area , but the rate was in my price range I stayed two nites due to no power at my home. I thought the staff was awesome. The room small but it was only me very clean room. I am a smoker and i did get a smoking room which i prob wont due again even though im a smoker at first the cig smell bothered me but thats my fault i smoke. in ending very nice motel great service from front desk. thank you
• skyhorse313 (2/5): Worst travel experience we ever had - We are traveling and are hours from our home state so we booked the big Apple motel, we get there and are several people waiting, the lobby is small unclean and there are intoxicated people everywhere, Beside the point but we told them we had reserved a room but before even asking our name for the reservation they said they have no rooms and are fully booked then expect us to leave, then we asked what happened to the non-refundable charge and they told us to call Priceline to get information because they can’t help us. So we call Priceline and they say that the motel told them that we have already been given a room and an upgrade, which did not happen. the original room was 85+ tax and they said we have been upgraded to 125+ tax, which beforehand had not been discussed and we had been told there were no rooms so we left shortly after to continue our travels. We had nearly gotten scammed by this motel, We will never go to the Big Apple motel again.
• 550DDD (2/5): Big Apple hotel /Bad - Do not go to this hotel, it is dirty and there are not safety locks on the doors of the room! Our room was street level and I was scared someone would break in! Also the fire alarm kept blinking on and off thru the night. I found a long black hair on my pillow while getting in bed. No glasses were in the room in order for us to take our medicine. Rug was filthy and there was no night stand by the bed and the phone was on the floor. The room was as big as a dinner plate. No closet was available and we didn’t dare sit our suit cases on the floor. I would venture to say this place I is used for one night stands mainly🤪 Bullet proof window on the office where you check in. The owner did not understand English either. Extremely poor neighborhood. We could not wait to leave
• 343chic (2/5): Pricing and quality - Worst motel ever, the sheets were dingy the room smell like urine nothing nice in this room the only thing nice was a flat screen TV , 80$ per night it was 60$ but taxes were 19.99$, if you don't pay a deposit then they'll keep ur license until check out I literally felt uncomfortable slept with my pants on because of fear of catching crabs especially after seeing a large prostitution traffic. Felt like I was a fugue I've hiding g out in a 3rd country motel.
• roadr252 (8/5): Best Price in Town!!! - I got a double bed for almost half the price of the competitors. Now it isn't a Marriott or Hilton but for it was a very good value dollar for dollar! Would recommend to anyone trying to save a few bucks,
• 943hassank (10/5): clean and quite good value for the money - check in was easy friendly staff . the room was clean and the bed was very comfortable . overall best value for the money . I would definitely recommend it if you don't want to spend $100 plus for a name brand hotel . we didn't see any illegal activity during our 2 nights stay.
• Z5862TCdonnab (2/5): Filthy !!!!!!!! - Upon entry to our room, we notices the carpet had not been cleaned. I walked over to the bed and there was some kind of black crumbs on it . I pulled down the bed , no pillow cases, sheets had yellow marks and what looked like pubic hair. The shower was also dirty... hairs.The woman at the front desk went to the room and told us she did not see a problem. We asked for our money back and we were told we would have to speak to the manager the next day. He refused to return our money.Our personal opinion is that this is a hang out for prostitution. The attire of the woman flowing in and out said it all.The board of health really needs to check this place out. I wouldn't leave my dogs here to sleep !!!! We will now be taking other measures to get our hard earned money returned to us.
