Guest Reviews
- Kenneth (10/5): Very straight forward and peaceful situated nicely for a good price on a private room and staff was so kind - Very pretty and friendly staff
- Corlett (10/5): Cute little getaway in drug city - I liked it it was quaint Homeless people everywhere
- Mary Eileen (8/5): - Coffee shop downstairs. No nightstands for our CPAPs.
- Ezra (10/5): Best Portland hotel! - It's a fantastic historical building that is kept very clean. The barista, Jasmin is always there to greet me with a smile, kind words, and the best cup of coffe money can buy in these parts...Cafe Vita roast from Seattle! My favorite!
Victoria is usually the night person here and she is the best hotel host I have ever encountered! She actually runs a Portland city tour on the weekends, so you can only imagine how much information of the city she has blessed me with! She always is smiling in every situaion, even when I have witnessed not so nice guests try to have their way. Victoria is a master at defusion and making any situation into a good one!
The entire staff is great! So nice and welcoming! I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Portland! Nothing

- Eric (10/5): Exquisite. Unforgettable. SO accommodating, professional, and appreciated. - Love this hotel for what it is/where it is/the value…but the staff made it an absolutely exceptional experience. Not only did they go above and beyond during my stay, but they contacted me within two hours of departing to let me know they found two items of mine that most housekeepers would have just tossed in the trash or put in their pocket! SO happy with the service and care! The windows don’t open, but that’s part of the deal—and very clearly explained in the room book/hotel guide. The rooftop deck is extraordinary, if you ever need a breath of fresh air
- Juanita (10/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful.
- Donald (10/5): - Perfect little place to rest our heads for a concert night. We didn't dislike anything.
- Jesse (4/5): It was okay until the luggage storage fee - The bunk bed with curtains was nice, and I'm happy the room was well ventilated so it didn't smell. Five dollars per HOUR for luggage storage, even after paying for five nights in the hostel. I'll never understand why certain hotels/hostels do this. It leaves a bad taste in the guest's mouth right as they leave. Some hostels might charge a flat 2$ fee for the whole day, while most don't charge at all. But 5$ per hour is just pure greed. It would have been cheaper to book another night in the hostel since my train leaves late!
The hostel is also in an area with a lot of open drug use...be aware.
No microwave in the kitchenette either.
The keycard kept being deactivated so I couldn't get into the hostel/dorm
- Heather (4/5): Great staff, terrible everything else. - Staff were wonderful human beings. Not transparent about large damage deposit collected on check-in (Only shown in small print in the left sidebar on this website once you've already hit Reserve, on a cluttered page where you're inputting your guest information). The manager said nobody has ever complained about the deposit before, that I should have read the fine print, and that it was necessary because there are a lot of issues with drug users destroying the $300 in linens in each bunk. Which is not a me problem, it means you've over-improved for the neighborhood and decided to start treating the hostel bunks more like a hotel where you get nickel and dimed for everything. Ridiculous excuse for common areas and "kitchen" (that doesn't even have a microwave) that are INSIDE the bunkroom, meaning you always have to creep around silently if you're an early riser or arriving late or just want to sit and use your laptop. It also means you should not expect any of the normal hostel opportunities to chat with fellow travelers. Completely about aesthetics and not functionality. The only plus side is that the other staff I interacted with were absolutely wonderful human beings, including the barista at the cafe. But you cannot even gain access to the building without being manually buzzed in each time. This was awful when I returned that evening and really needed to use the toilet. If you simply need a place to crash for a night, this might work, but do NOT expect the usual amenities of a hostel or anything practical. You're getting an expensive comforter and Instagram-friendly vibes, not a hostel. And the second you exit the building, you're plunged right back into the heartbreaking economic and unhoused crisis of the neighborhood, making their hollow aesthetics feel almost inappropriate rather than a welcome respite.

- Hsiao Ting (9/5): Clean and great value hotel - I stayed there for two nights. It was very quiet, the rooms and toilets were very clean, the cafe on the first floor offered simple meals, the avocado sandwiches were delicious, the staff were friendly, and the check-in process was smooth and quick. I had a wonderful time there. There aren't many restaurants to choose from in the area. There are many homeless people outside, but that's not a problem for the hotel. Although it's a bit nerve-wracking, it's fine for a woman to walk around this area alone during the day.
- daniel (5/5): - 前台可以免费接水。 寄存行李居然要收钱
- Tom (8/5): - Very clean, friendly staff Bed too soft and too short :(
- Remy (8/5): My stay was great. I came for a concert and was within walking distance of it. Would stay again. - Really cool old building and neat rooms. Private room had my own sink and privacy. Downtown location makes it super easy to move around the city. There is a rough looking crowd that hangs around the area. A lot of open drug use however, I never felt unsafe, even walking back after midnight from the star theatre. I can see how it may intimidate some people but the majority of homeless people here keep themselves to themselves.

- Specie01 (10/5): - The room was ultra clean and perfect for one or two people. The shared bathrooms were a non issue and I was able to access without any delay. Even the shampoo smelt great. Nice views from the room windows of downtown and the rooftop view was fantastic. I actually booked another night on a whim. The waterfront is easy walking and there's plenty to do downtown. Chinese gardens are a block away too for some real zen moments. There are quite a bit of homeless in the area as the train station isn't far...but I had zero issues with them.
Also the Cafe was great too. I had avocado toast with micro greens. Sooo Portland and utterly perfect. Honestly it exceeded expectations.

- Chloe (3/5): -
- Heidi (7/5): Quite a good value for money. - The nighttime Victoria was the best! We got a good recommendation from one of your staff: to visit Washington park. Sunrise bowl was very good. Everything in the room and hotel area was clean. The bed, blanket and pillows were good. The reception staff was efficient. The room, especially the bathroom, was pretty cold. There were no fridge nor water boiler, even if it was described in the booking site. The shower gave quite a little water. The air was a bit stuffy and you couldn´t open the window. I hit my foot .several times to the wood under the bed. There could have been cupboards and more space. It was hard to see all the homeless people just outside the hotel.
- Aranda (8/5): - I like the concept of the hotel. Basic but very clean and in good condition. The staff was great! The immediate surrounding location seems to be in decline, but a few blocks away everything seems better.
- Francisco (10/5): -
- Chiara (10/5): An amazing stay in Portland - The hotel is located in the Chinatown district and it’s a really good position to visit the city. Nothing.
- Roberto Berrios (5/5): - Muy buen precio Cantidad extrema de homeless afuera del hotel
- BRIAN (10/5): - The roof top is one of the best views you can get in Portland
- Haoxuan (9/5): Very good place to stay, will definitely come again! - Bunk room is beyond my expectation,it was soft and comfortable. The room is quite, good for sleep. Shared bathrooms are good, clean and with good facilities. It has purified water tap in room, with hot water. Also, there is cabinet for every bed,you can use your own lock to lock it。
One more thing, the staff are really really really good! The area isn't the best place in the city. But it is safe. It might look scary but no one gonna hurt you. This isn't the hotel‘s fault. Just mention there for anyone who is nervous.
- Michael (10/5): - I loved the location

- Tamara (10/5): Portland Bound? Stay at hipster The Society Hotel!! - Loved the price. Adored the staff. The vibe was hip. Yummy menu. And location a close, safe walk to MODA CENTER. Portland is a homeless wasteland—the conditions were appalling, including encampments on sidewalks, outdoor parking lots and open drug use was off the chain. However the staff was reassuring and friendly! And the hotel is super clear and meticulously run. LOVE that they iff SAFE INDOOR SECURE PARKING — use it!!
- Jesse (8/5): The room was tiny, the view on the 2nd floor was limited. The roof top was great. I wished there was a view of the river - Beautiful, historic hotel with funky friendly cafe Police were surrounding the place when we arrived. Most of the people on the streets appeared to be heavily intoxicated on - who knows what -
- Rich (10/5): Priced like a hostel, stayed like a 4-star hotel - From start to finish, the staff was phenomenal! The queen bed was very comfortable and well-outfitted, and the impeccably clean bathroom/shower was right across the hall. Slept like a log!
- Margot (9/5): -
- Emma (9/5): Amazing - Very clean and employees were amazing Parking but that’s about it.
- Piedra (10/5): -
- Curtis (10/5): It was a very aesthetically pleasing hotel that I would make my go to place to stay when in Portland! - The vibes were incredible! Very aesthetically pleasing There were at some point security guards at the property! It really made me check my white privilege. And made me feel very unsttled with everything happening with ICE!

- I PENG (10/5): - 各方面都很不錯 就是位置 ,但這不是你們的錯。
- Freddy (8/5): Enjoyed my stay overall and was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the hotel. - Was nice, cozy, clean and convenient. Just blocks from downtown shops and several entertainment venues. Staff was friendly and efficient. Overall was a good experience. Will likely come stay again when visiting PDX. ;) I was a bit uncomfortable with the coed bunk room, perhaps a mens and womens dorm, separate would have been more inviting for me personally. Having stayed in the bunk room, a few wall hooks inside the bunk area would have made things easier. Also would suggest towel hooks outside the bunk since the hotel suggests using your towel at least twice. Really no place for wet towel besides stuffing it between the bunk slats. Also maybe a shoe shelf/rack. Last thought was a community TV for the bunks. As a foot note; Ive not yet received my $50 secure deposit back and ive been back home in SF over a week ?
- Eunice (7/5): - This is a cute little boutique hotel in The Chinatown district in city center. Super easy to get to by the metro rail; the Red line from thru airport drops off a block and a half away and the yellow and green lines are two and three blocks away in the other direction. The staff was particularly helpful both before and during my stay. The rooftop is lovely. This has nothing to do with the hotel itself, but this neighborhood clearly has some issues with unhoused drug users, who are all over the streets and make a lot of ruckus at all hours of the night. I wasn’t sure if it was safe enough to walk two blocks at 4 am to catch the train back to the airport. That said, the building itself is secure and the staff does a great job to keep folks from entering the property who do not belong there.
- Taylor (1/5): Didn’t get to stay basically got robbed by my booking and the property - Wasn’t able to stay got charged and no refund and you guys haven’t gotten back to me either Fentanyl addicte everyehere out front selling and using drugs
- Morgan (10/5): -
- rachael (10/5): - The room was cozy, we enjoyed the Photo Booth, and cafe!
- Meyers (10/5): -
- Ashish (1/5): - I was charged twice …I need my refund The service
- Allen (8/5): -
- Maria (10/5): Excellent - Super friendly! Loved the staff! Just the homeless outside
- Phoenix Knight (6/5): - I liked the closeness to the vicinity of the Amtrak Union Station. The bed was super firm, which was hard to sleep on, and the rooms are way too small.
- Carmen (10/5): Very central to where we wanted to go and the hotel was very comfortable. - It was very comfortable and the staff was very accommodating.
- Laurel (10/5): Affordable and very nice! - I stayed in a private room and it was gorgeous, and aside from sharing a bathroom (very clean and high-end, never had a problem waiting for a bathroom to open), I felt as if I was in a higher-end hotel for less money! It's easy to access from the MAX red line coming in from the airport, and I was able to check in very late without a problem after a long day of travel. The staff are super welcoming. All-around great stay! Nothing!
- Katherine (9/5): Great stay, comfy bed, peaceful and clean - Comfy beds, well appointed pod style, good sized lockers and great showers. Could have supplied a coffee maker, kettle or microwave in the little kitchenette upstairs.

- Francis (9/5): - Great hotel it's self, private rooms ideal for a place to sleep, good temperatures and low noise Not their fault, but the area is rough and can be hard to get through
- Alden (9/5): Amazing!!! - It was a very cool place. I love the integration of local artists and the staff was top notch! A little sketchy location but that was anticipated.

- Brian Mc C (10/5): Lovely Stay - Lovely place to stay, staff very friendly No kitchen, the area for sitting is in same area as bunk beds, u can always go to the cafe at reception though.
- NICHOLAS (6/5): A hostel masquerading as a hotel with friendly staff and a stylish lobby, but accommodations whose h - Staff were very friendly and accommodating, lobby was well dressed, aesthetically pleasing and cozy. Conveniently located to Good Chinese food and Portland Chinese garden. While the lobby would have you believe the place to be a normal hotel, it really is more of a high-end hostel. This is not inherently a problem except for the fact that everyone I know who goes to hostels expects to be getting a much reduced price for the inconveniences of shared spaces, shared bathrooms, a lessened amount of room, etc. Even the base price of around $65, which is what attracted me to the area in the first place, is really not the whole story, since if you are going to park you're going to pay an additional $25, and if you did want a room to yourself, you'll pay 20 more on top of that. And this is all through the booking.com site; book through them directly and you'll even be paying more. Over $100 a night for a room, which was barely more than a closet with a window facing a brick wall and a communal bathroom seems absolutely ludicrous, especially in a part of town which doesn't feel entirely safe or welcoming at night. For travelers who are somehow inclined to travel in a communal style but also don't care about saving money, this place offers something, but it's a strange niche to be sure. For those of us who want a normal hotel at an affordable price with some personality, I can't recommend this one. And for the traveler, looking to go to Portland on a budget, unless you really need to be in this specific area, it's tough to recommend as well and I believe that a cheaper abode must be out there.
- Douglas C (9/5): A great concept, well executed but with a couple deficiencies. - Great staff, lobby/restaurant, bathrooms and roof deck. My mattress was terrible – totally unsupportive and worn out. There were no towel or clothes hooks at the dorm bed.
- Erwin Regino (10/5): - Location
- Marc (9/5): Excellent and affordable stay! - Parking option was a real bonus! I highly recommend it

- Thomas (6/5): - I loved the bunk bed to No TV
- Hannah (10/5): Very pleasant and comfortable, would stay here again! - The room was perfect size and cozy and clean. I liked that there was a sink and hanger space and a bed, it’s all you need. The bathroom was always clean. I liked that the key card is the way to get in and up the elevator and of course your room, felt secure and safe. The staff was friendly and helpful, explained everything very well. The bed was comfortable! It wasn’t cold and I like that (I hate the cold). I loved the little view I had out my window. I didn’t like the partying outside (I know it’s not the hotel’s fault) but the screams weren’t that helpful trying to sleep.
- Brandon (8/5): -
- VANESSA (10/5): - All of it. Great vibe! Wasn't a total deal breaker and I probably just missed it in the room description but there was no TV.
- Forouzi (10/5): -
- Gina (10/5): Comfortable stay for exploring the city! - Really enjoyed the libby space with the cafe! Room was very comfortable, clean and enjoyed the robe! Great, spacious single stall shared bathrooms. Overall great stay at a great price.
