Guest Reviews
- Henriette (2/5): Really bad!!! - I book 4 nights, but I left after 1 night. I didn't sleep at all because people were being noisy just outside my window, playing loud music, shouting etc. Traveling alone I didn't want to go out in the middle of the night to ask them to be quiet when I didn't know the area! I didn't get any money back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I like the staff , they were very friendly, and the hotel was clean
- Cara (2/5): Avoid at all costs... photos are not accurate. - Booked this solely based on the photos and decided to try out ONE night in our 6 night trip. The place is a dump. An absolute dump! The beach has serious erosion and although I'm seeing this is something affecting the entire south side of the Island, it should be updated on their website to show that there is no beach like shown in the pictures. The sand dunes (as shown in my photo) blocks any beach access.
Instead there is bad beach erosion and the dunes which are being ripped apart by the higher seas is right along their barrier. There was a security guard who checked me in and showed me to the room. He was friendly and directed me to the local bar to get some food. This was THE Only STAFF I saw while here at this hotel and left at sun up because I couldn't deal with how gross it was! Anyways the bar, Jazz charged 18.00 USD for one chicken thigh and leg. Very very pricey but I knew that night i would not be extending my stay. Hotels.com shows restaurant on site, there is none. The restaurant is actually next door at ocean 2. Their breakfast buffet is 65.00! Apparently they are owned by the same company and planning on tearing it down soon. This is the worst experience I've had and I hope people truely believe my warnings. No pool or beach to swim in due to erosion will equal a miserable stay
I found a hotel about 1/4 mile north, the restrover and saw their prices were 15.00 more. I immediately left this dump and booked the most beautiful studio room...
- Julie (10/5): Home away from home - This was my 4th visit to Salt Ash in the last 3 years and it’s become our home away from home. Everyone we met went above and beyond for us, from Kimberly in the office to Tyrone at his beach bar, housekeeping and security. We wish you all well.
- -L. (10/5): - Convenient to everything within a few steps. Rooms clean & spacious, staff warm & welcoming. Having the bar and the beach with free lounge chairs for guest backing the premises was awesome! I also enjoyed sitting on the patio and watching the amazing sunset as it meets the ocean water. Great value for the buck! Many thanks to Salt Ash Hotel, I definitely recommend it!
- helen (2/5): Would not stay there - Disgraceful
After a long journey place was dirty and unsafe
Had to then scource alternative space : which in turn was costly
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Right on the beach! The hotel is very clean and comfortable, and is only a block or 2 away from a market, ATM, and some good restaurants. Absolutely perfect place to relax, watch or swim in the ocean, with your own frig (once you stock it with the local beer) just a few steps away. All that happiness for a very reasonable (read "cheap") cost.
- Michael (8/5): One night stay - wish it could have been longer! - One night only before setting offto the airport. Pleasant room with an amazing sea view
Also vorm Frühstück musste man erstmal aufräumen, was ebenfalls sehr unangenehm war.
- Peter (8/5): Salt Ash - The downstairs rooms are dark and with no privacy. Higher floor rooms are much better but a higher room cannot be guaranteed. Right on the beach.
- David (10/5): Why look anywhere else? - Fantastic location and value with service with a smile!
- Dean (10/5): Great location on a beautiful beach - Comfortable stay and would stay here again. Good value for money
- Maurice (10/5): Barbados on a budget - An excellent economical hotel right in the middle of "the Gap". The staff run an efficient operation and are very pleasant. Nothing too much trouble. Hotel is basic and although a little tired it does the job. Balcony view of the ocean and views of the beach are very relaxing and more than make up for the simple but adequate facilities. Room includes a small kitchen. As it is on the beach and only a few steps away from restaurants and the Dover Supermarket this is a great place to unwind and chill. My only advice is once you get to the Gap ask where the hotel is as it is not obvious from the main road. Barry's surf school signs are worth following as they are right next door. A small beach bar is also on site and is run by a typical local. Good parking and fast wi fi.
- Airut (10/5): - This hotel is very a very convenient location, grocery store, beach, restaurants and everything you can ask in the Gap. Kimberlin was amazing ! she helps us with all the information we need , also our flight was late around 7:00 pm. and we were able to move to another to change and shower after the check out time for free!. customer service in Barbados is best! I booked a ocean room I got # 10 room this view is just beautiful from my room balcony. This is not a push hotel or arte modern facility but the rooms and in perfect condition plus the rate is pretty good!. Value for Money.
- Barry (10/5): Amazing value beach-side apartment - I just stayed in an amazing value beach-side apartment at Salt Ash Hotel. I have stayed there before and loved it, but on that occasion, I was in a downstairs room. That had the benefit of not having to walk upstairs, but the upstairs room that I stayed in this time had the advantage of a lovely veranda with a stunning view of the beach and ocean. The location is perfect - right on the beach and close to all the activity on St Lawrence Gap. The rooms are old but spacious, clean and well-maintained. The beds are comfortable, and the quiet at night ensures a good night's sleep. The kitchenette has everything you need to be self-catering - thereby saving you a lot of money on meals. The staff members are all pleasant, helpful and very responsive to any problems you may have. On my regular trips to Barbados, this will be the place I always stay :-)
- MF (6/5): - For a budget hotel this is good and close to everything. The hotel manager could get a better bedside manner though. A good experience overall though.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Booked an Oceanside with a balcony and received a ground floor with a patio bar outside the door. Drunk karaoke all night was not entertaining! Room was clean, but very spartan like being at camp.
- Julie (8/5): - Simple hôtel à même la plage. Terrasse avec vue sur l’océan
- Verified traveler (6/5): pricing - i d converted the $US price i d booked at to GBP arrived at the hotel with what i believed to be more than enough to cover costs ,to be told that they have their own conversion rates .Just saying if $47.00 = £35.....i cannot work out how they got to £42.00...i ended up paying £40.00 so i paid £5.00 OVER THE PRICE I BOOKED AT ....SO PLEASE BEWARE
- Catherine (10/5): Waves all night long! - This place was very affordable. It is nothing fancy at all, there is a bar that is open daily on the spot. You can hear the waves all night long! It is walking distance to food, stores and shopping! We were very pleased with our stay!
- Pete (8/5): - Apartment is in a great position but could do with a overall eg decorating and bathroom sorting out shower needs a handrail new curtain and toilet seat fixing
- Peter (8/5): Salt Ash Hotel - Small hotel directly on the beach, with Tyrone’s beach bar attached. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. We stayed for 3 weeks and are returning later in the year.
- Christine (10/5): Great stay! - Well worth our stay. beautifully located on the beach, there is nothing better than waking up to sounds of the ocean outside your window. My friend and I had a 2 bed Ocean side room right by the bar (convenient) and literally steps away from the beach. The location is great since it’s situated very close to the St Lawrence Gap (bars/restaurants). The walk isn’t bad at all. There’s also a small grocery store/deli shop, coffee shop down the street (Ocean 15 or something) and a cute Jazz Bar next door as well. Absolutely would stay again and recommend it!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Ok for the price nice location on the beach we only stayed 1 nite coming back from cruse
- Khin (10/5): - I had a lovely time. Kimberly was very helpful..
I would recommend to everyone.its a little gem in the paradise
- cathy and mike (8/5): Very nice location. Right on beach - Clean but Rooms can use a remodel excellent location close to everything
- E (4/5): Very basic, clean hotel, poor customer service - When we arrived to check in, there was no one staffing the hotel to let us through the locked gate and give us keys to our room. Luckily there is a surf shop next door and a guy who works there was able to tell us that the bigger hotel (Ocean 2) on the other side is owned by the same people and took us there, who then called someone who was able to get us into our room. The hotel itself was somewhat rundown but clean. AC worked well, and waking up to the view of the ocean was great. Due to the check in issue, we were granted pool access at Ocean 2, which was very nice.
- JANELLE (10/5): GREAT! - I've been to Barbados a total of 8 times. I've stayed at overpriced condos and hotels that were definitely not worth the money. Salt Ash was perfectly located in a touristy area along with the beach being 20 steps away.
I would highly recommend renting here. I stayed 8 nights and didn't have any issues with our accommodation. Our cleaning lady was beyond amazing & the hotel manager made sure we were always in good hands.
For the price we paid, it was well worth it.
We will definitely be back at Salt Ash.
I want to book again this year but you are all booked up for the dates I want to come!!
- Perttu (10/5): Very nice staying and good value for money - Friendly staff. Basic room with small kitchen and you can make your breakfast yourself and save money! Beach was nice and also beach chairs available. Short walking to Gap and many good restaurants nearby. There is beach bar front of the rooms what is close about midnight, so earplugs is not bad idea if You like go sleep early.
- Iben (8/5): Great budget option - The Salt Ash is a great budget option, large rooms, kitchen amenities, right on the beach and close to both restaurants and night life.
I only had minor issues; google maps places the Salt Ash slightly wrong, but anyone on the street can point you in the right direction. I only had like warm water in the shower, but I'm ok with that. I couldn't find anyone at the reception to check out with around 8:30am despite opening hours being 8am-4pm, so I just threw the keys into the office through the open window, and I hope everything is fine.
I would stay here again when in Barbados.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location but needs improvement - Very good location but hard to find from the main street as limited signage. Hotel does not provide basics like shampoo and TV is the size of a laptop. Limited office opening hours and unreliable internet connection.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - Very basic but clean. Can't beat the price or the view. Nothing like walking out right on to the beach. Staff were lovely.
- Linda (8/5): Great for the price - This place is a great bargain! The room is clean and comfortable. The area is great! Nice beach out front and right next to Dover Beach. My room was on the main floor directly beside the beach bar which made for very noisy evenings, but usually only until about midnight. I just watched tv until it quieted down. I can see this not being ideal for some people. I had a great stay!
- k lynn (6/5): Nice hotel and right near the ocean - The hotel was nice and it was off the main road only thing we had a problem with was there was no tv in the room should probably upgrade that also we were suppose to have a beach front room that’s what we booked when we got there we didn’t have a beach front room we were put in the back which the place were we was put was still nice and very spacious so we still enjoyed it another thing is ever time we went to the outside bar there was no one there it was allways closed which we didn’t like and we asked once if they were serving food and the lady told us no only to a private party so u couldn’t even get something to eat at the hotel which I found crazy never been to a hotel we’re they don’t serve food or drinks but we ended up going out to the main road and found plenty of places to eat and drink the location was perfect we would definitely come back again u can’t beat the prize even though there were a few things we didn’t like
- Jane (10/5): A Little Gem In Paradise - Wow !! Found Salt Ash Apartments on Hotels.com and how pleased we were to have found this little gem consisting of 9 rooms. The location is just amazing, literally steps away from the most gorgeous beach and to see the turtles in the sea a few feet away is quite emotional. The ground floor apartment we had could do with a refurbishment but it was kept spotlessly clean, we had everything we needed, a comfortable bed, hot water, brilliant air conditioning, lots of towels including beach towels, superb internet, cable tv, a few toiletries too. One thing they didn’t have was a hairdryer so don’t forget to pack one ! Bars, shops and restaurants all on your doorstep. Would we return .... yes in a heartbeat, wonderful stay and the most lovely staff. Highly recommend, pity I have to shout out about it as we probably won’t be able to get a room !
- Waneita (10/5): Good inexpensive stay. - It was nice and clean settings. Having the beach out front and a breathtaking view was great. Its in a good area close walking distance to everything. For the price it was good.
- Barry (8/5): Excellent location - good value - This Hotel is in an excellent location - right on the beach. The price was very reasonable, especially given the location. Rooms 1 to 4 face the beach and so have a great view, but the downside is that you are close to the bar and common patio area, which can be noisy at times. Thankfully it's usually all quiet by 10 pm though. The waves can be quite high on this beach, so it is popular with surf boarders. My room was a good size, comfortable, cleaned every day, with good free wifi, and had a full kitchen so that I was able to self-cater for the duration of my stay. The local convenience store is very convenient - but the prices are higher than the larger supermarkets. I did my shopping at Masseys at the bottom of Rendezvous Hill, and used their complimentary shuttle to carry me and my bags back to the hotel.
- Vanessa (10/5): Beautiful ocean view in a great location - If you're looking for 5* luxury, state of the art facilities and full restaurant/pool/spa etc. amenities then this is not the place for you. However, if like us, you value a beautiful ocean view, clean and spacious apartment and, friendly and helpful staff and a great price, then i would highly recommend this hotel. Good location for walking to the numerous nearby restaurants and bars on the Gap. Kimberley was extremely helpful and responsive before and during our stay. There is a nice little bar and a small stretch of beach with plenty of sun loungers for hotel guests. We would definitely stay again!
- Henry (8/5): Quiet turtle beach. - Hotel is very clean, recently painted but very 1970's. But at the price for a beachfront hotel it is a very good place to stay. All rooms have a balcony that views the ocean. One mystery is why they do not mention that there are rocks with grass on them in the ocean. The rocks are not a problem for swimming but are the feeding ground for many turtles. They are present year round and will swim within feet of you. A real treat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful - Salt ash is great! We just arrived back home last night and I'm sorry we didn't extend for a few days more!
The beach the staff's hospitality, Kimberly and Margaret are gems!❤️ Tyrones beach bar and Tyrone himself are great! Don't stay anywhere else!
- Steve (2/5): not even 1 star hotel - arrived with front gate locked. No one in site except guest waiting to leave. Maintenance staff finally arrive. No real beach. what beach there was - was full of seaweed. Large room but wouldn't touch anything in kitchen or cupboards. Had a locked box with little lock as the safe. Would never stay again. You are supposed to pay what you get, but not even here.
- gail (10/5): - The view is stunning and the staff are lovely. We had a great time there.
- Gordon (6/5): Perfect Location - Hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Provided good recommendations about places to eat.
