Keith (6/5): Don't waste your time staying in Rowlesberg - No contact with anyone just an outdated note on the door. Continental breakfast was sparce at best. 1 bagel was the only thing to toast. No yogurt Note on the door said to meet at Carrio's(local wine bar) this was our dinner option. Place never opened & not many other options in town

He went out of his way to show us the local attractions and teach us the history of this area. The mountains, and river were beautiful! The lodge itself was charming with many antiques. We stayed in room #1 the bed was comfortable, essential toiletries were provided, and everything was clean. Convenient spot for multiple hiking trails and parks. I would stay here again if in the area.

Martin (10/5): Quiet, Charming B & B - If you like old style charm, you will love this place. The town is extremely quiet, so we arrived with a personal note on the note addressed to us, front door unlocked, and key in the door of our room. It was an early century 3 story house so clean and comfortable, we felt very cozy and safe. The proprietor has everything ready for you and has a phone number to call if any questions or issues. The table is set with a good continental breakfast, no charge, coffee and juices. This was set up each morning. We enjoyed our stay, very reasonable, and comfortable.
Bibiana (6/5): - I was a bit hesitant when I arrived at the age of the house, it’s old. But the rooms are clean& the beds were very comfortable. We did tear the continental breakfast because it was all package muffins & high carb choices.
Yinglin (10/5): - Our family had a two night stay. In the beginning we were surprised at how old and antique feeling the lodge had. But we had a very comfortable stay. My 12 yrs old said the hotel bed is the most comfortable one he ever had in a hotel. The help-yourself style breakfast has many thoughtful choices. People in this little town are very friendly and the scenery nearby is so beautiful and peaceful.

Carole (6/5): - No one greeted us and the front door was locked. We had to call and then Tim greeted us and was very nice. The breakfast was terrible. The muffins were in a package dated two weeks prior. Two of the three mills in the frig were outdated. Most of the food in the frig was outdated. There were a few oranges on the breakfast table. We didn’t see any other guests even though Tim said the place was booked. The rooms were lovely as was the overall establishment decor. The internet wasn’t very good but we’re finding that typical in West Virginia this far.
Karen (10/5): - Very clean, right beside river, quiet, and mattress was a 10/10 comfortable. Room even came with soaps, tooth brushes/paste, and lotions, everything you'd ever need for a nice trip. The only thing I would have added to room would be a small personal refrigerator for left over foods or deli meat to make sandwiches or food. Eating out constantly gets expensive.

Timothy (6/5): Unique lodge - Loved the historic nature of the property. Antique items and original woodworking etc made it a very unique location. The pictures are a bit deceiving and make this look like a large mountain lodge (one even with a pool, though that is not listed as an amenity) but it is just a three story home. But that was fine, the only major issue was that they used window AC to cool the rooms. Our two rooms were very hot and the window ACs took a long time to make the temperature bearable. It did cool off nicely around 2am. Breakfast wasn’t much, not many options and nothing of a low carb variety. Wasn’t too concerned about until we realized there was literally no where to get anything to eat between the lodge and Camp Dawson. (Should have ate the muffin!) can’t really speak to the friendliness of the staff as I never met any during my entire stay (we had a late check in) But we had everything we needed so I have no complaints (except there was no hair dryer, it had one listed so my wife didn’t bring hers.) It’s no Ritz Carleton so don’t go expecting that, but it is a very neat place that you will remember years down the road (unlike a Comfort Inn!)

Indrek (10/5): - Lovely place to stay if you prefer unique experiences and not the chain hotels that all look and feel alike. This is a very nicely restored historical building, full of fascinating details. We got a very nice room, where the only negative point could be the bathroom door that didn't want to stay closed. There was no TV in the room, which was big plus in our eyes. Be prepared for trains passing the town (and making some noise). However, it's part of this historical place. If you rely on local eateries, then go early - i.e. before 7pm. A very friendly owner who kindly instructed to drive beautiful roads. If you prefer to stay in modern standardized hotels/motels then this place is not for you.

The beds were the most comfortable I’ve encountered. The antique furniture and decor was very beautiful. Such a nice change from staying in the typical motel. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Nicole (2/5): - For starters, this place does not let you know that the family suites are located on the 3rd floor of the property. They also advertise a pool and lazy river (neither of which do they have). The “lazy river” they are referring to is the Cheat River which is not an actual lazy river but a river well known for drownings and whitewater rafting. They also fail to mention that it is a guest house with many people on many levels. We came in late and had trouble getting our stuff up to the 3rd floor at which point my kids (who’d been in the car for 2 days) were yelled at that others were sleeping when they collapsed at the top of the stairs from carrying items that far up. Then while walking around to get settled (not stomping, just walking) someone was banging on the ceiling with a broom or something from below. The husband got mad that we chose to leave early, then when questioning the owners wife about this, mind you, we left early…did not request a refund and I did not bring the children back to the lodging at all even to collect our belongings) the wife yelled at me that of course someone yelled “IT IS A GUEST HOUSE”. So I would not recommend this place to anyone. The owners are rude, and liars…given that the “lazy” river they refer to could cost you your actual life. Also their continental breakfast is literally some granola, cereal, and a few oranges. (Also we chose not to eat anything as it was not worth it for us). Pretty sad. Not a family friendly place at all. What a joke

I felt the breakfast was a little lacking but it was clearly listed as a continental breakfast. Overall a very nice stay that I would visit again.

Mary (10/5): Great beds super clean - This is the cleanest places I've ever stayed. The beds were very comfortable the sheets and towels were luxurious and plentiful. The only cons are the town doesn't offer restaurants or grocery stores. So bring snacks and eat before you check in. I'm definitely staying again.

We really enjoyed simply sitting in the common lounge area in the morning talking with the other guests and having coffee before we went out to explore the area. We traded stories and ideas and it was all very pleasant. The Lodge is in great shape; very authentic old-timey charm with lots of lovely original furniture and trim. We had a very romantic weekend there and recommend it to any couple looking for a place to spend time together.

Samantha (10/5): - My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay in the Rodemer Suite at River House lodge. The room was clean and exactly as described with necessary amenities. There are a a couple of bars that serve food within easy walking distance, as well as a general store. Unfortunately we didn't get to float down the Cheat river because of the recent storms, but we had a relaxing time nonetheless.

The owner, Tim, did an immaculate reconstruction of a Victorian-era house, keeping its original appearance while adding all necessary modern-day conveniences. The beds are large and comfotable. The 19th century furniture is beautiful and contributes to the ambiance. Tim is very hospitable and did everything possible to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The Lodge offers inflatable raft and tube rentals at very reasonable prices. The Cheat River is beautiful - the water is clean and enjoyable for swimming and boating. This B&B, located in the small, historical town of Rowlesburg, is a gem. There is a general store and restaurant in close proximity. Parking is absolutely no problem.
Verified traveler (6/5): - There is no breakfast prepared for you. There was left over OJ and milk in a small frig. Used boxes of cereal, yogurt, clementines, granola for breakfast. We never ate anything from there. Surely not what we expected for a bed & breakfast. The baseboard heaters down stairs were on upon checking in. My husband turned down the thermostat because it was overly warm. We arrived at 7pm and it was 78 degrees outside. The window air conditioners were not on. There is no wifi on 3rd floor either. There's a wifi extender that does not even extend to the 3rd floor. We were very disappointed not to have what was suppose to be offered. The rooms we stayed in were neat and clean. We will not return due to what you don't get for $145.00/night. Very disappointed overall. Only good thing was conversation my husband had with the owner about the history of area.

Quiet house on a quiet street in a small quiet mountain RR town. Very picturesque area. Very walkable, Owner rents out kayaks for use on theCheat River (very pretty) in the narrow, steep gorge just behind the house. Limited food choices in-town or at breakfast at the lodge. Very rural, mountainous, woodsy, Appalachian culture, quite isolated. Locals are friendly. Plenty of hiking, sightseeing. If you like the Appalachians, you've come to the right place. And the half-dozen trains a day coming right through the small town every day actually adds to the ambience. I'll pass through here again.

The host is knowledgeable of the area, and very accommodating with any questions you may have. Only a stones' throw from the rail track, so you can enjoy the trains as they go by. Also, the rooms were well equipped with toiletries.
