Guest Reviews
- Christina (8/5): Ok - It was ok. The house needs some work.
- jenny (10/5): Absolutely wonderful - We stayed in one of their condo properties that sleeps 14 people. It was absolutely wonderful. The beach was a short walk away, and it was so nice to have umbrellas and chairs for us to use. The condo was fantastic and very clean, and the staff were incredibly helpful and unfailingly nice. I would DEFINITELY recommend this property!
- Leisa (10/5): - More space than we expected. We were to be a group of 13 but 4 could not make it so there was room to spare. The privacy was wonderful. The short walk to the beach a dream.
- Dannie (8/5): I'd come back - The townhouse was very big and located in a quiet location that allowed us to travel either by foot, car, good cart or scooter. A bit outdated furniture wise but the appliances and TV's in each room were mostly up to date. The staff was very friendly and helpful; they even warned up the pool for us on one of the days. We were expecting two bunk beds but we made it work; assuming it's because we listed fewer people than we brought on accident. 10 minute walk to the beach, police station located around the corner, 25 minutes away from Downtown Savannah. We would definitely come back again or recommend it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Would stay here again - Nice place, away from the "downtown" and close to beach. Very clean and convenient. Debra is a master breakfast chef (we stayed in the B&B section). Staff was very friendly but as with every other place in Tybee, understaffed, especially at checkin. Unfortunately, Tybee's popularity in many ways has outgrown its ability to service large crowds. Not enough restaurants, not big enough kitchens, not enough staff. Also strange -- no facilities on the beach.
- Christy (6/5): - When I arrived the pool had not been cleaned even though I had booked my reservation a month in advance. The Jacuzzi bath in the master suite didn't work and was not available during our entire stay of four days. The knob in the master shower was broken and we had the option of them fixing it and not being able to use it for 12 hours or use it as is, we opted for the latter. The staff was nice but only offered me a $150 deduction on our bill for our issues which I felt was not quite enough. I was so excited about this trip and staying at Officers View and I am greatly disappointed that my expectations were not met. I absolutely loved Tybee and had a wonderful time on the island and meeting the locals. I will very likely return to Tybee but sadly will not be using Desoto Beach Properties on my next vacation.
- John (10/5): As good as it gets, but better. - Courteous, friendly, professional staff. Clean and convenient, right on the ocean. Nicely decorated, not at all like chain places.
- Clara (10/5): Heaven on Tybee Island - We stayed in the Desoto Bed and Breakfast, next door to the hotel of the same name. Fantastic! There are just three rooms, which share the living/dining room and two balconies. The cook makes breakfast to order each morning, and there’s wine and cheese every evening. The beach is just steps away. Couldn’t have asked for more!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Right on beach. Breakfast was mediocre - Couldnt be happier with the hotel part. Plan to eat breakfast somewhere else. Micro.biscuits on a bun.danish. bread and bagels. Would rate breakfast 1 at the most.
- Paul (8/5): Nice hotel close to beach - Close to beach and some great places to eat and drink.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Beach Getaway Weekend - We love staying at the DeSoto Beach Bungalows. We bring friends to run the Critz Tybee Run Fest and it is really close to the starting line, the Pier and many restaurants and shops. We've been staying here for 4 years now and love it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Clean hotel but dated. - Staff was awesome here. Hotel was clean and accommodating but very dated.
- Sagar (4/5): Property was worst - The property assigned for our stay was horrible. There was a stink in the room. Air conditioner was located at wrong place leaving us with no choice. I would never book this property or stay there again.
- pola (10/5): Amazing beachfront apartment - I booked a 3 bedroom apartment on Tybee Island and not only got an amazing deal, but was blown out of the water by how beautiful and well kept it was. Definitely planning on returning for the summer months!
- Rhonda (8/5): Tybee Island beach - The room was very charming. Mostly clean. Shower did not have enough pressure. The soaps and linens were good quality. Bed comfortable. Very close to the ocean. A 3(?) minute walk. Great location. Check in/out service excellent. We stayed at an off site part of the hotel. We would stay again.
- Chan (4/5): - I was disappointed with this room. The rooms look tired and need updating.
- Angela (10/5): Great hotel steps from the beach. - We stayed at Georgianne Inn and Suites. It was very quiet and clean.
- Dan (10/5): - Older facility that has been well maintained and is directly on the beach. The outdoor pool was heated and extremely warm and inviting. I highly recommend staying here, but make sure you know which property and room you have a reservation. Call and ask.
- Leon (8/5): Wonderful place to stay - The Georgianne Inn itself was wonderful. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and gave me recommendations of what the locals eat in the area. Being an old in (1921) I taper my expectations as far as noise reduction-- I expect there to be a little noise from other rooms, and that is typically fine. The people above us on this particular night were absolutely obnoxious. So, Inn was wonderful, the people staying that night were so loud they kept my son and I up until 2am.
- Sally (2/5): CLEANUP IS GUEST RESPONSIBILITY!! - I have NEVER stayed anywhere that lists as a hotel that your reservation is for one location while your stay is at a completely different location. Second floor unit with NO elevator, NO daily cleaning, NO onsite pool, NO notification of continental breakfast BUT actual initialization needed plus final signature that you will CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF & DAMAGES OR ADDITIONAL CLEANING WILL BE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE GUEST. MAKE THE BED BEFORE YOU LEAVE!! NO PETS BUT FOUND PET URINE STAIN & ODOR IN BATHROOM - CLEANED BY US!! NO SMOKING BUT SMOKING AREA DIRECTLY OUTSIDE OUR UNIT!!
- BC (10/5): B&B on the beach - Great location, friendly staff. Nice breakfast included
- Wendy (2/5): Georgian Inn. (DeSoto) - This room was part of the DeSoto vacation rentals at the Georgian Inn. The room was located on the bottom floor of an older home. (1921). 7 foot ceilings, damp musty smell, with no view at all. It did have a kitchenette with a microwave, fridge, coffee maker ( only 1 caffeinated and 1 decaf) for two people. The door knob was loose with no secure way to lock the door. (Used a chair underneath the door knob as our security ) The staff was rude not allowing us to participate in the continental breakfast. We were told it was only for the DeSoto hotel guests. A really nice lady at a a local coffee shop said that all the hotels on Tybee Island were dumps. If you do want to stay on Tybee Island, I would suggest going through a local realtor to rent a villa or condo. The beaches were beautiful and clean. The best thing about Tybee is the fact that Savannah is close by.
- Raymond (10/5): Caitlin’s trip - Very friendly and helpful staff. Beach right behind the suite we stayed in.
Very roomy, off the street so it was quiet
- nicole (10/5): - The honeymoon suite was lovely. The inn keeper even made us a special cake and as a wedding present, gave us some of her homemade shell tree ornaments.
- James (10/5): Friendly - We were welcomed and assisted unloading. Staff was friendly and helpful. We were awakened to the smell of a wonderful breakfast.
- Kevin (10/5): Great B&B on the beach! - We stayed four days with friends at the Officer's View. That was a great house! Then, we moved to the Desoto B&B. We loved it! It was right on the beach. Debra made us a great breakfast every morning. She treated that house like it was her own.
- Cory (10/5): Desoto Tybee Island - It was amazing and so beautiful the ocean was 118 ft away from us, with a beautiful view friendly people and surroundings..
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The stay and location was great! It was a great value for the cost of the suite. The cleanliness of the front room, and smell left a lot to be desired, however.
- Juan A (2/5): Relocated to another property - We booked a room at DeSoto Beach Hotel but during the check-in we were told we were actually staying at another property recently acquired, a mile away, The Georgianne Suites. Nobody accompanied us but instead we were given a piece of paper with directions to the other property. It was already 8pm and after half hour of trying to find our room we had to call the hotel desk for more details. The maintenance person was sent over to help us.
- Charlie (8/5): Hotel near beach - The outside of the building looks old but still nice an the room was very nice the only issue I had was the room up above us where very noisy till later in the evening an then started over again at 5 am stomping an running back an forth
- Joy (8/5): Great Alternative - The studio is about 1 mile from hotel, parking is convenient & access to beach 3 buildings away. Easy walk to town. The room was clean and comfortable with refrigerator, microwave & coffee maker. There’s no maid service, you must replenish toilet paper & paper towels if you need more. We had 4 bath towels & wash cloths & 2 hand towels. Plenty for 2 people/2 nights. If you need fresh towels you must launder them yourself. Cable TV was a rung above basic & worked just fine. Everything was wonderful until an extremely rude & obnoxiously loud family arrived above us around midnight of our 2nd night & woke us. They allowed their child to run and scream. We had to bang on the ceiling. This went on unabated for more than 30 minutes. We were about to call management when it finally stopped. Manager informed us that we should have called and they would have immediately responded. They have zero tolerance for disruptive activity. Good to know. We would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Bed & Breakfast area is amazing!! - Debra is an incredible cook, and staying in the B-N-B portion of the resort was quite lovely. Furnishings are beautiful and the food and refreshments offered were very delicious. I felt quite pampered and spoiled after an evening there.
- T (10/5): Nice suite with porch steps from the beach - This is a nice large studio suite for two or four in a pinch (sofa pulls out). It has a functional kitchen and ample space. The porch has a partial view of the beach (one building back from the beach). Covered parking for one car (Terraces 1&2, Terrace 3 is not). Close to everything. I definitely recommend it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I've stayed at Desoto before and this time I stayed at the new property, Georgianne, and it was fabulous. I loved it and I can't wait to come back!
- Sherry (10/5): Relax and Getaway from it all - Tybee Island is the best getaway! Slow-paced peaceful and a spectacular view of the ocean. Definitely, we'll be back!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Property not in hotel - We were booked in Georgiana property. Not what we expected. Not on beach and no pool. However, only 1 block from beach, nice, big 2 bedroom & 2 bathroom with full kitchen and a nice deck to sit out on. Very enjoyable.
- M.Youngblood (8/5): Very quiet....with the BEST breakfast around - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Atlantic Suite! The Bed & Breakfast is very quiet...not far from the beach...and Ms. Deborah makes the BEST breakfast! I loved her praline French toast and homemade muffins! She was so very sweet and made our trip awesome!
- shannon (6/5): - Is sourthern hospitality a dying thing? People were not very outgoing. We were in one of the vaca rentals, and when asked for some spare TP, were told we had to buy our own...but they would supply extra towels if we needed them? The rentals we were at were a little messy on the outside, needed some cleaning up on the property in general, room was fine though
- tim (10/5): The bed and breakfast was nice - We stayed in the bed and breakfast and it was nice. Our house keeper and our breakfast chef was extremely nice. She cooked a good breakfast and cookies! We did have a partial view of the ocean. Was about a 2 min walk to get into the ocean. Own parking was nice. Didn't use the pool but was available. So if you go...get the bed and breakfast and say hi to debra! You will love her and her breakfast.
- Kathleen (2/5): Waste of time and money. - On our arrival I was informed that the Expedia time on my paperwork of a 3 arrival was inaccurate and I could not check in until 4. When I returned at 4 I asked if I could speak to a manager about the problem with check-in the women were not only unwilling to help me contact anyone but just outright rude. They literally made me stand there where they had a personal conversation. When walking into the condo, we immediately noticed the odd paint splotches on the walls where it looks like they covered up holes in the walls. One of the ceiling fans did not work. The beds felt like we were laying on box springs covered in plastic, not mattresses. I asked for a manager or someone to talk to every day I was there by phone and by email. I was never responded to. The elevator is like a coffin it is so small and it stinks. The parking is impossible if you have two vehicles if someone parks on the opposite side. If you call for service, do not expect anyone to come and help with sheets or anything else. There were not appropriate Linens for the pull-out couch which was also in need of replacement. I did notice a rubber glove like a medical glove laying in the flowers and looked every day as I would leave the condo and it stayed there the entire time. We actually found shattered glass under a ottoman that we moved while in the condo. No dehumifier so super damp inside. Towels smelled awful. Sheets looked dirty. Much more, too much to list. Good view doesn't make it ok. Nightmare.
- Verified traveler (8/5): It was okay - Everything was fine. Cleanliness was fine too. It was not very clean but everything was organized and we were okay to stay. We had a good time with swimming pool. It was also good walking distance to beach. We had 2 rooms suite, had one bathroom made us little uncomfortable. If you need a place for family or friend trip and need to make some food, looking for place nearby beach, this place is fine condition.
- Ann (4/5): Georgianne Inn on Tybee Island - I booked the DeSoto Beach Hotel Oceanfront and ended up staying at the Georgianne Inn. The hotel staff did not know why my reservation was changed. I called Expedia to clarify but nothing happened. When I returned home I had 3 messages from DeSoto about changing rooms, however they did not contact me while at the Georgianne Inn.
We stayed at Suite #8 at the Georgianne Inn on the ground floor for 4 nights, Aug 31-Sep 4.
Pros
easy access to beach but not beachfront
spacious suite with renovated bathroom
good location
comfortable bed
Cons
suite is dated, worn out, in need of a major renovation
noisy air conditioner
most windows in the suite are not exterior facing except for the kitchen, making the suite dark during daylight hours
lacking supplies: garbage bags, laundry detergent, kitchen towels, extra bathroom towels, hotel replenished all after a call
paid washer and dryer on site are very dirty
musty smell in room when A/C is off
unkempt grounds
cockroaches in the room
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, nice area andsuitenwas nicely accommodated
- Lexy (10/5): - Had a wonderful time in the 2 bedroom suite with the family. Close to the beach and downtown! Loved Tybee!
- Darrell (10/5): Just about perfect! - Best B&B experience ever! Debra is awesome!
- christy (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay. Employees were helpful and pleasant. Would diffantly return for another stay with desoto.
- marie (4/5): Not on beach. - We stayed at the Georgianne Inn about a mile or so from the DeSoto hotel. Our "suite" was small but clean. Ground floor but felt like a basement as it was down several steps. King bed was fine but pullout sofa was useless for our grandson to sleep on. Mattress virtually nonexistent and slipped through frame. We had to improvise. No top sheet or blankets provided either. No person on site to ask for help.
House is fourth house back from beach so no view. Extra beach chairs and bikes are available for guests.....a nice touch since you are not allowed to use DeSoto pool/s.
Window air conditioning unit is very noisy so it was like sleeping in a wind tunnel.
Overall, not very satisfactory.
- Anna (8/5): Great stay for the price! - Great room. Spacious and comfortable. Bathroom is a good size. Great water pressure. Cleaning service could have been better. Front desk was nice and very helpful. I liked that I was able to rent an umbrella anf chairs for the beach. I would definitely stay here again.
- Maureen (10/5): Tybee island - Great for large families
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location! - The location is right near the beach, and the staff is incredibly helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel location was great, very close to the beach and pool. Service and staff were also very friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast was basic but great to have. Only issue we had were there were some matenience issues in our room such as the one TV didn't work, half the light bulbs were dead and the ceiling fans had so much dust on them that when they turned on it spewed dust everywhere. With that, we did notify staff and they were very prompt in addressing most of the issues the best they could. Also they tell you you have an assigned parking spot, but people take your spot if you leave. Overall, it was a very nice experience and I would recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): comfortable. beautiful - beautiful property. comfortable beds. relaxing stay.
- kimkim (4/5): Not what I expected at all - Our "Ocean View" terrace turned out to be the Georgianne Inn which was three houses back from the ocean with no ocean view. The staff was very short with me when I called about the location mix up. The lady stated that I was put in the Georgianne Inn because I didn’t pay enough to stay in the Terrace that I originally booked through Orbitz.
Night two I called and complained about no parking and the lady was rude at the front desk. I was told to just pull in the grass and she hung up on me. I was already furious about the mix up about locations and now I have to park in the grass, walk farther to the beach, we have no beach view and have to still pay a premium price. Our nightmare didn't end there for the 3 days.
They do not provide any cleaning services for the Georgianne Inn. So by day two, we were out of clean towels. I requested more clean towels and we got 1 for the 4 of us. They only give you 1 garbage bag, no travel size box of detergent was in our unit but there was a sample size fabric softener (I guess they want you to wash your own towels, or at least freshen them up with downy), 1 tiny dish soap with no sponge to wash dishes which they tell you that must be washed prior to departure. Then after you run out you are required to supply your own.
Day three finally arrived and upon checking out the staff did not ask how my stay was while checking out. They really didn't seem like they cared. Don't stay here!!! Very misleading online!!!
- Sara (10/5): Beach Bungalow Tybee Island - We loved being so close to the beach! The bungalow was clean and comfortable. Cute little backyard with swimming pool. We enjoyed our stay!
- Havens (8/5): Nice place - Nice hotel, great service. Right on the beach. Walkable to a few places, over a mile from the pier. North harden suite was nice for family with small kids. O ly complaint was had to park across busy street where hotel guests got parking eight by building.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was a great experience! Loved the Bed and Breakfast!
- Susan (10/5): loved the B&B - We stayed in the Bed and Breakfast and it was delightful!! Debra was such a dear. Her huge breakfasts were amazing. It was first time to stay in a B & B. We loved it.
- stella29 (2/5): DISGUSTING - What Expedia does not tell you when booking this hotel, is that you may get stuck in one of their "outbuildings". Arrived to find men working in my room, tools spread all over the kitchen table. The flooring was filthy and peeling, the carpet was dirty and frayed. The outside of the facility looked like a hoarders house with junk stored under the house. There were bikes and beach equipment just laying around everywhere in the breezeway. There was a pair of underwear laying in the bushes that had apparently been there awhile. Killed a cockroach on the kitchen floor. This particular property is not even listed in those owned by Desoto. Would not recommend this place to anybody.
- grandmother (10/5): Bungalow was wonderful for the family - Within walking distance of the beach. The kitchen needs some attention. Appliances are dated but working. Just having the use was a blessing. Neighborhood was wonderful.
The staff at the hotel was more than accommodating and great customer service! A++!
- Mom (8/5): Convenient - Stayed in Terrace 1. Enjoyed the experience. This unit is one house back from the beach and is a very convenient walk to the ocean. Enjoyed the kitchen, just would have been better if it had a full size coffee pot.
- Samantha (8/5): Great hotel for the price - I recently stayed with 4 friends and we had a great time! The pool is a little small but you only share with one other unit, the floors were chipped in a few places and the bed in the back bedroom sunk a little in the middle but overall it was very clean, and we really enjoyed our stay. We will stay in the same condo if we go back!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not at all what was advertised - We were placed in a separate hotel altogether. Where we ended up wouldn't have been so bad were it advertised and priced as what it was, a basement room with no pool, located a bit of a walk to the beach.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Beware of "premium" parking situation & rude staff - Tybee beach area has very tight parking restrictions and parking is limited. We booked a room knowing it came with parking. When we arrived we were given a special pass for "premium" parking. When our assistant took us to our room he then pointed out that our parking was across the street. In an abandoned sand pit! When we complained we were told that was the parking that came with our room. (I interpreted that to mean because we booked through Orbitz). The lady insisted that "nobody has ever complained before" and yet when I looked through recent reviews here and elsewhere, that is just a lie. People have complained, and even saw shattered glass where someone parked in the sandpit before. It is unacceptable to expect someone to park off site, across a very busy street, in an abandoned sanded lot. Thankfully we were only there one night. I wouldn't recommend going there if you have parking needs.
- Virginia (8/5): Nice garden suite, close to the beach. - The North Garden Suite was a very nice space with nice amenities. It was close to the beach with a few paths to the beach (in between the terraces and B&B; by the hotel pool... were the ones we used). The best amenity was the washer/dryer in the room. It was very nice after spending the day on the beach to dry our suits/beach towels in the dryer for the next day. We had fresh towels daily and plenty of soap which was also wonderful. The beach area wasn't too crowded (in comparison to other beaches on the island and other places we've gone) so we were always able to find a good space as close or as far as we wanted from the ocean). We would definitely recommend the suites!
- Wanda (10/5): - Great stay, loved the home cooked breakfast. Great hammock on porch!
- Kristy (10/5): Terrific Terrace 2! - Loved our girls weekend in Terrace 2! Great location in a family orientated part of the beach. Not crowded at all.
- amy (6/5): Bungalows - Prime location, but unclean and in need of repairs/updates. Shower was so grimy it's hard to believe you'd exit cleaner than you entered.
- Charlie (10/5): Pleasant beachfront bed and breakfast - Deborah is a great cook and a lot of fun to talk to. My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Desoto.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Bungalow near beach
- Very charming place and private. I like the fence around your own pool. Great time. Will be back with friends.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hotel had a nice pool and close to the beach but - There were three of us and we only had towels for 2 ! Also no one came to change towels or clean up . I called to see what to do with the garbage but the said tie it up and put to the side . No one came and it caused 100's of bugs to surround the porch . And no tv for small children plus internet was not working so granddaughter computer was useless!
- Barbara (8/5): - Clean and comfortable. Great location. Could have had better parking.
- Becky (10/5): Great Place..1604 Bungalow. - The place we stayed, Bungalow 1604, was very nice. The only thing was the bedroom at the bathroom, the mattress was wore out. It sunk to the middle. But other than that GREAT!!!
- Doug and Kay (10/5): B&B Gem near beach on Tybee Island - Excellent B&B experience, very nice, well appointed, well maintained property. Breakfast was lavish, delicious served with gracious charm and hospitality. Spacious front balcony and smaller rocking chair back balcony added to comfort and enjoyment. We will be returning.
- Rebecca (10/5): Southern charm at its best - We couldn't have had a more relaxing trip than the one we had to Tybee Island at Desoto B&B. Debra, the innkeeper, truly has the gift of service and hospitality. Her amazing breakfasts, snacks, recommendations, and just plain sweetness made us feel so welcome. The inn is so charming; we debated on never leaving the hammock! We will most certainly be back and can't wait to spread the word about the fabulous service at very reasonable rates.
- William (6/5): Only ok - Got to area early about 1pm, told room not ready but they would call us. Never received call, finally went to front desk around 5:30 to check in. Next day at checkout same "didn't care" attitude. Other employees on property nice and helpful. Beach nice and lots of helpful vacationers!
