- Verified traveler (8/5): Appartement proche du centre ville et fonctionnel - Nous n’avions pas d’attentes immenses pour cet hébergement que nous avons sélectionné pour sa proximité du centre-ville de Funchal, très pratique ! Malgré un peu de complexité pour arriver à entrer dans l’hébergement, avec aucune réception et divers appels pour obtenir les accès, l’hébergement était plutôt spacieux, propre et fonctionnel. Les matelas étaient fort fermes, donc pas adapté à tout dormeur ! La rue en contrebas est bruyante la journée mais ok le soir, donc cela ne nous a pas dérangé plus que cela.

- Connie (10/5): - Great location, and a spacious room. I do recommend for anyone looking to stay by the old part of Funchal or close to the water. The pedestrian road is lined with lots of cafes and options for great food. Delicious! Only drawback is that there is no staff and we had to rely on a whats App chat to coordinate our checkin. Thankfully my phone (canadian) worked on arrival in Lisbon and then Madeira and we recieved our checkin code. Like all hotels in Madeira a tourist tax is charged but needed to be coordinated a few days prior and by a money transfer (money Gram worked!). It was a bit more work than perhaps another hotel would have required but once it was done there were no issues: the staff on the chat were prompt and provided clear instructions.

- Simon (8/5): - This property is in a great, central location, close to shops, restaurants & all amenities. The check-in was very simple & Cristina was a great help. The apartment has all the facilities you need & is an ideal base for a few days in Funchal
- Shufen (8/5): - The property is very clean and quiet located in the busiest downtown area. The supermarkets are three minutes away. The service staffs are very responsive. There is AC in the room. I will definitely stay this place again. The only thing I think they can improve is to ask the cleaning ladies to chat in a lower volume every morning when they work. I can hear them chatting in the public area from my bedroom. But if you wake up and leave your room before 9am, this is not an issue at all.
- Conny van (10/5): - Perfecte locatie, erg schoon, er weer iedere dag schoongemaakt. Heel dicht bij alle restaurants, terrassen en openbaar vervoer. Beneden zit een goede bakker met coffee to go, op 2 minuten lopen een supermarkt. Wij hebben absoluut geen geluidsoverlast gehad. Een fijn smal balkon waar 2 keukenstoelen en een klein tafeltje op passen, heerlijk om te ontbijten of even een drankje te drinken.

- YI (10/5): - We stayed at the Marketplace Apartment for a week in September. The whole staff, both on and off site, was very friendly and helpful. I was sent the access codes for self check-in via email upon arriving. The whole process was very easy and straightforward. Our apartment was cleaned everyday and the staff did a great job. The place was spacious, had everything we needed with a fully equipped kitchen. It's located in the middle of old town with coffee shops, large grocery stores, shops and Mercado do Lavradores just steps away. We loved the location and enjoyed our stay!

- Michael (10/5): Fun in FUNchal... - I love the Markeptplace apartments - clean and functional and right bang in the middle of an exciting town with plenty of access to travel and entertainment. My room was kept spotless every day and, with a supermarket just round the corner, I was able to keep the place well supplied.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent location in the center. Walking to get to all the nice and important places in the city. Opposite the apartment is an old market and shops, or near the bus station and cable car. Equipment aprtman excellent.
- Gurvan (2/5): - Booking for The Marketplace apartments. Five days before arriving, the hotel informed us that the room is not available and moved on another hotel : Five rooftop (cheaper than the previous one). They gave us no reason for unavailability. After asking for compensation : nothing (just two days before arriving they proposed to cancel for free... but 2 days before there is no vacancy at Funchal, so you are held in hostage!!!). When we arrived late in the evening : - No baby bed => so we need to sleep with my child in the same bed - Hotel very close two building works and with very bad sound proofing - They indicate we got the room 3 at the third floor but it does not exist, need to knock at other rooms door to understand where is the room... - No car park and no possibility to access with the car close to the hotel (so late in the night you have to bear all your luggage and and after looking for a car park...). On expedia, it is clearly indicated that there is a car park on the initial booked Hotel. With my wife who is pregnant, it was an horrible stay. It is my first time I wrote a bad review, although I travel very regularly. Definitely, I don t recommend.

- Mike (10/5): A hipster's paradise! - An amazing apartment right in the middle of the main pedestrian street in Funchal - strangely quiet at night, but with access to all the best bits of the city. I loved the layout of the apartment, larger than a studio, and with all you need to live independently - and the market's just across the road!!!

- Rolf (8/5): Zentrale Unterkunft in Funchal - Zentral gelegene Unterkunft mit Balkon auf Einkaufsstrasse. Die kleine Wohnung war relativ neu, schlicht und sehr sauber. Der relativ kleine Schlafbereich unseres Zimmers war durch ein Schrankwand vom Wohnbereich mit gut ausgestatteter Küchenzeile getrennt. Dusche und Toilette waren relativ klein für die gute Grösse des Badezimmers. Alles war jedoch funktional gut. Einlass funktioniert via Code per Email. Für einen Aufenthalt im Zentrum von Funchal zu empfehlen. Eine öffentliche Parkgarage befindet sich wenige Meter entfernt.
- Catherine (8/5): Great central apartment handy for sights - This is a great apartment, very central and excellent value for money. It's located in a shopping street a couple of minutes' walk from the seafront, and handy for all the major sites and the cablecar up to Monte. It's also near the airport bus stops and all the bus services to other parts of the island. It has decent wifi (not perfect, so might not be ideal if you're a big streamer but fine for email and social media). It was cleaned to a very high standard every day and had a kitchenette with all the necessary crockery and cutlery (though it would have been nice to have full salt and pepper pots rather than empty ones!) However with those small caveats considering the price and location I would definitely recommend it.

Our room was already occupied on arrival and we were allocated to another room. However the following night, other guests accessed our new room, were unable to contact appartment management and we had to resolve the issue. Note phone number to contact appartment management for access on Expedia website was incorrect.
- CoGrue (6/5): Sehr zentral gelegen, dadurch aber auch laut - Die Marketplace Apartements sind so zentral gelegen, dass man fußläufig die Stadt und den Hafen erkunden kann und alle öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel in kürzester Zeit erreicht. Dadurch ist es aber auch nicht ruhig. Unser Schlafzimmer ging zur Straße raus, den Straßenlärm hat man bei geöffnetem Fenster sehr deutlich gehört, bei geschlossenem Fenster war es ruhig. Zwischen Schlaf- und Wohnzimmer (beide sehr großzügig bemessen) hätten wir uns eine Tür gewünscht. Küchenzeile extrem klein, aber gut ausgestattet mit vollwertigem Herd und Mikrowelle. Leider null Arbeitsfläche. Balkon geht vom Badezimmer ab, ist nicht schön und ohne Balkonmöbel. Wir hätte dort aber auch nicht sitzen wollen. Man sieht zwar tatsächlich einen Stückchen Meer, vor allem aber Blickt man auf ein heruntergekommenes Flachdach und ein zerfallenes Haus. Im Bad fehlten ein paar Ablagemöglichkeiten (Platz dazu wäre durchaus vorhanden). Sauberkeit insg. gut, nicht herausragend. Preis-Leistung aus unserer Sicht top!

- Luca (8/5): Surprise! - It's a modern and central place, right in the middle of the city. But, with great surprise, the parking was not available. We've chosen it also for the included parking... big bad surprise!
- Anna (10/5): Satisfação - Foi uma viagem maravilhosa. Levei meu pai á Ilha onde ele nasceu. Conheci muitos parentes, fui muito bem recebida por todos. Este apartamento fica muito bem localizado, é novo, espaçoso e muito agradável. Pretendo voltar e recomendo o lugar a todos.
- J (6/5): Ants everywhere! - The Marketplace Apartments are located in the centre of funchal and is very convenient for first-time visitors. It's close to the bus, the cable car and there is a grocery store next door. The apartment looks great and is generally well laid out. However, it must be said that there were ants EVERYWHERE despite daily cleaning service. The fruit basket provided by hotel staff contained several pieces of rotten fruit which attracted ants all over the apartment. It was difficult to relax and truly enjoy my stay with ants crawling on every surface (kitchen, bathroom as well as the bedroom). Unfortunately, it was extremely difficult to reach hotel staff as the phone number provided on the expedia booking was incorrect and no response was received to emails. Location isn't everything so I would not return to this property on my next visit to funchal and would not recommend unless the ant problem is addressed.
- Aleksi (6/5): Recension marketplace apartments - Hotellets läge är perfekt precis i närheten till köpcentret anadia, flera restauranger med mera nära till det mesta. En stor tabbe som hotellet gjorde när jag skulle dit första natten var att de gav mig fel rumsnamn och kod så att jag gick in i ett rum mitt i natten när någon stackare sov och vaknade i chock, jag gick ut från det rummet och ringde sedan till personalen som efter det hänvisade mig till rätt rum. Hade jag dock inte haft telefon och möjligthet att ringa ja då vet jag inte hur det hade löst sig. Kassalådan där man kunde låsa in värdehandlingar stod i hemsidan att det fanns och det stämde men det stod inte att det kostar vilket det gjorde. Ville ha tips från hotellet på olika så kallade Tours alltså där man åker till olika sevärda ställen och stannar där och kan ta bilder m.m de bokade in mig på samma tour 2 gånger. Rummen är stora, ljusa och trivsamma men ett stort problem är att de är på tok för lyhörda så att det tog för mig 4-5 nätter innan jag kunde sova där ordentligt, det var så lyhört att min granne och jag sannolikt kunde höra varandras tankar, eller när någon gick i våningen över mig så lät det som de gick i mitt rum eller när någon hostade m.m vill inte ens tänka tanken om grannen hade snarkat det är en jätte dålig grej som definitivt borde förbättras.
- PabloPaula (8/5): Ubicación inmejorable, desayuno monótono. - Ubicación inmejorable, a 50m. del mercado dos lavradores y muy cerca del paseo marítimo y de la zona vieja de Funchal. El desayuno no merece el dinero que cuesta (8,5€ x pers.), es repetitivo y, siendo el alojamiento un apartamento, puedes bajar a la panadería que hay justo debajo y comprar desayuno cada día. Además, así no estás atado a levantarte a las 8:30 para recibir el desayuno si quieres dormir, ni a esperarlo hasta esa hora si quieres madrugar para hacer alguna ruta de senderismo lejana...
- Tim and Ann (10/5): Excellent city centre stay - The apartments are in excellent condition. The breakfast was excellent - brought to the door each day at 8.30. Lovely bread and coffee to start the day. The cleaners were really helpful and the cleanliness is exemplary. Position is right in the centre of Funchal but the noise from the road can be easily closed off by shutting the windows - air conditioning very effective and cooled the room quickly when needed. Highly recommended for a visit.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Zentrale Lage direkt beim Markt - Da das Hotel keine Rezeption hat, bekommt man per E-Mail Codes für die Eingangstür und Zimmertür. Bei uns stimmte der Code für die Zimmertür nicht. Telefonisch war leider erst nach über einer Stunde jemand zu erreichen. Das war sehr ärgerlich. Das Zimmer war dann aber sehr schön und groß.

La clima tisation n'était pas installée et la rue est très bruyante sans parler des travaux dans le bâtiment en face. La porte de la salle d'eau wcne pouvait pas se fermer suite aux dégât des eaux. - Maria (8/5): excellent location - Our room was very confortable and the staff were excellent. The room was cleaned every day and had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The small kitchen was more than suitable for preparing everyday meals. The only thing we missed were more English channels in the TV. Something that we expected was the noise from the street as there were many places to eat. Location wise was excellent, buses to everywhere in the island only a few minutes away, supermarket just opposite 2 mins away and plenty of shops and churches. If you want to be near shops and facilities this is the perfect place.
- Shela (10/5): Recién reformado, muy céntrico - Estuvimos seis días maravillosos, el tiempo muy bueno, alquilamos un coche en el aeropuerto y recorrimos toda la isla (57 x 30 kms), la gente muy amable, el parking 6€/24 horas. Restaurantes buena comida, abundante y buen precio. Los productos de aseo personal mas caros que en España sobre todo los protectores solares.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Modernes Apartment in zentraler Lage - Wir hatten zwei sehr schöne Wochen im März in Funchal verbracht. Von dort aus kann man sich bequem die Insel anschauen. Bushaltestellen in alle Richtungen der Insel gibt es an der Strandpromenade ganz in der Nähe. Die Insel lädt zu ausgiebigen Wanderungen ein, insbesondere entlang der Levadas. Wir empfehlen dafür den Rother Wanderführer (kleines rotes Buch) mit 60 detailliert beschriebenen Wanderrouten. Wir haben auf einen Mietwagen verzichtet und es war gut so. Man kommt mit den Bussen fast überall gut hin. Das Wetter war frühlingshaft, meistens sonnig und um die 20°. Wir kommen gerne wieder!
