Guest Reviews
- Josh (10/5): - Great location, easy to find, super clean and the staff was amazing. The attendant greeted us outside of the property and gave us a quick tour. I highly recommend this stay! 10/10
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean and neat property. The corner rooms are a bit larger. Bathrooms are shared on each floor and are spotless. Same goes for kitchen facilities ( no stove but there is a microwave). I would ask for a room on second floor as the rooms next to the kitchen may be noisier if there are people preparing food at night/early morning. Friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely accommodations in a cool town.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great space with lots of amenities. 30-60 minute drive to the glaciers and the waterfalls.
- Jade (10/5): Great stay in Hofn. - The staff were very warm and very service oriented. The room (main building) was terrific with a great view of glaciers. Showers and toilets are spotless and clean.
- Alan (8/5): Convenient for short overnight stay - Convenient location in Höfn. Everything is close by. Small room but good communal area although everything can be a little close at times. Potential for noise from two other rooms if they are using the communal kitchen or the share bathrooms
- Steve (4/5): Great spot, poor shower. - My son and I walked to the nearby athletic field which provided us a nice diversion from the car trip. The place was spacious enough except ... the shower was falling apart, most of what we touched while in the shower either came off or fell, and the drain was an extremely slow drain.
- anand (8/5): Nice but as everywhere in Iceland, very pricey - Cosy annex, was private as third room was unoccupied. Clean and comfortable with nice view. Need to ring bell for reception and hope somebody will come. No food but restaurants nearby.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Need to improve.. - The apartment that we stayed is outdated and not so clean. Shower’s drain is very slow and make me feel disgusting during shower. The washing machine is not functional well. The guest house which own by owner next to apartment seem better choice.
- Marc (8/5): - Convenient place to stay as we drove along the Iceland's Ring Road. The outside needs some repair, inside was clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We were given a nice, spacious room and also had access to a well equipped kitchen
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We got the whole hotel to ourselves, we were in Iceland in low season, it was great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Meet by the host, shown where everything was located, Very clean and nice looking. Great nite sleep
- Epf (2/5): - Its a hostel. We thought we were getting a two bed apartment next to the main house.
- Jose (10/5): Stay here! - This property is amazing, we felt like living in a castle, very good decoration, very clean facilities, the bathroom floor heats up, only thing missing is a full kitchen!
- Jer (10/5): - This was a very comfy place to stay at the end of our very long day. Our room with a shared bathroom was cute and came with a big tv and a small dining table. The kitchen with a dishwasher was very useful too. I think the pillows could have been a little better, but everything else were great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Short stay - Not really any cookware in the kitchen as listed, can only microwave. Otherwise reasonably clean with shared bathroom in good condition.
- Danielle (8/5): Overall good - We stayed for just one night and it was good for that. We stayed in the apartment which was very big. Lots of space for multiple people. Kitchen was nice - we didn’t cook but it would have been a great kitchen to do so in. Downside was the shower - it didn’t really drain so you have to keep shutting it off to let it drain, then turn the water back on and continue showering. Hair dryer also didn’t work - and having wet hair in Iceland in October is not ideal.
- Linda (8/5): Nice Place - Check in was very easy, was upgraded to a very nice room with a nice view. The shared bathroom was clean and the property was well kept.
- Es (10/5): - Very clean and nice roomwit with 2 shared bathrooms and a beige shared kitchen
- Andrew (8/5): - Room was a little small and only had a tiny window looking at a building. Way too expensive though compared to similar hotels in Iceland.
- C (8/5): - Room was good. Kitchen was well equipped and location was excellent as you could walk to the local hot pool and all restaurants easily including shopping and grocery. Would have been nice to have a back up wc for the one that was shared by 3 rooms was stretched during the peak periods. Staff that owned and ran the hotel was friendly. TV and Wi-Fi was very good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location - Easy to find, street signs guided us to the location. Room was clean and apartment had all the necessities (hot water, coffee, fridge, utensils, etc).
- Dallas (10/5): - Beautiful view of mountains, Glaciers, waters from the room.. room is large and comfort.. shared bathrooms are very clean ..
- Robert (10/5): - When my wife and I saw it was to be another Guest House stay, we almost looked around for a hotel alternative (since some of our experiences in guest houses have not been very good). But once we got inside House on the Hill, we were glad that we didn’t act on that impulse. A two-story Annex is situated beside the main house, which is where our room was situated. We were very impressed with the size of the room, and with the pair of modern shower and toilet areas on the same second floor. The house shared a common kitchen and dining area on the main floor, with the kitchen primarily serve by a microwave (but no conventional stove/oven) as well as a dishwasher. All manner of plates, dishes, pots, pans, and silverware were available for the common use. The beds were very comfortable, as were the pillows, and the building itself was remarkably quiet, all providing for a very good night’s sleep. The location itself is very desirable, in so far as it is situated close to the glacier and all the opportunities for adventure that are associated with it. Would we stay there again if we found ourselves in the area? Absolutely!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location, Tiny Room - The guesthouse was in a very good location. We walked to Pakkhouse for dinner and to Netto for groceries. The room was very small with very little room for luggage. We shared a bathroom with a lot of people. The guesthouse was clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice apartment with 2 shared bathroom and decent dining table to accommodate upto 6 persons.
- Karinka (8/5): - Everything is good. No utensils in the kitchen and no mugs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice big apartment. Good location. Plenty parking spots. We like it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and updated, but sound carries - A friend and I stayed here for a single night during our trip around Iceland. The accommodations were very nice, everything was clean, and even though we didn't use the kitchenette, it appeared to have all of the essentials (plates, silverware, electric kettle, etc.). The only real negative to the experience was with a loud group of other guests, not the property itself. Sounds echoes very easily and a conversation held in the kitchen area felt like it was being held inside the bedroom. This was especially annoying when a loud group of people decided cooking at 9pm was appropriate. Overall, the accommodations are great, but a disrespectful group can ruin the experience. Nice area around the house too!
- Designer56 (6/5): - Just ok no soap in shower I understand bringing own shampoo but soap! Double bed was pushed up against wall using washroom in middle of night I had to crawl over my husband!worn out accommodations not the same as picture!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Iceland Höfn - House on the Hill was a great stay. The rooms are clean, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the bathroom, albeit shared, were phenomenal (heated floors). Perfect for anyone traveling in / through Höfn
- Soo Keng (8/5): - Light zone in 1 of ground floor toilet not wide enough. Blackout happen during shower.
No stove or induction cooker hob provided in kitchen for guest's cooking
- Graeme (10/5): Good location, clean and comfortable - Walking distance to town and good restaurants. Everything spotless. Kitchen very equipped, clean and coffee machine and coffee provided which was a nice gesture.
Good view from our room of the mountains.
An enjoyable stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The shower didn't have a fan, and had mold growing in it. The outside ashtray was overflowing and cigarettes were blowing around the entry.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Shared bathroom is in need of cleaning and repairing. The rest is okay.
- Andonios (10/5): A Hofn Good Time - Larger room than most hotels/hostels in the area, nice common kitchen, good service, decent location in regards to how close it is to the restaurants and bars
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No issues. Small but clean room, common bathroom & kitchenette were fine. Only there one night so it was acceptable, would probably try elsewhere if we were staying longer.
- Ling (6/5): - For the most part an adequate and spacious apartment. Bathroom was fairly old and we had trouble with the down drainage when showering. Use of the washing machine and drying rack was extremely helpful for the midpoint of our trip.
- Katie (8/5): - Cute little hotel within walking distance of restaurants and the beach. The room was tidy and suites our needs for the trip. The only downfall is of course the shared bathroom.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely spot for our family after a day of traveling the South Coast. Great recommendation for dinner at Pakkhaus. Very clean and comfortable!
- Briana (10/5): Beautiful! - Don’t judge this building by its expterior. Beautiful, simple, clean—amazing stay. Bonus, heated bathroom floors! Great to make meals and hang out in common areas, although a burner/hot plate should consider being added.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice room with a glacier view - very comfortable room with everything you need. Everything sparkled new and clean. Shared kitchen area has a large fridge and microwave. We were hesitant about the shared bath thing but it was fine.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very knowledgeable owner and helpful with suggestions
- Michael (10/5): Rest for the Weary - Driving all the way from Keflavik after a delayed flight, we were late arriving into town. But we called ahead and the staff was very helpful and accommodating. The beds were comfortable, the shower hot, and the internet fast. The plants in the windows were a nice touch to make the place feel like home.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great space to relax at end of long driving by day - Spacious & comfortable with everything we needed
- Amanda (10/5): Overlook Hofn in comfort - Extremely comfortable rooms, very clean facilities. Nice to see multiple bathrooms and showers available, no lines at all! The host was very kind. The kitchen was available to all. Located in the middle of Hofn a lot is within walking distance. Loved it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really a nice place. One of our best stays in Iceland.
- Kira (10/5): Really nice guesthouse in Höfn - Very nice place to stay in Höfn! It was very clean and well kept. The bathrooms had heated floors and were very well maintained. Rooms were spacious and comfortable; the tv was a bonus. Menus had been left for local restaurants which was really handy (highly recommend Z Bistro!!). Only issue was that there was no stove top/oven to cook on. Otherwise, really great place to stay.
- Bonnie (10/5): Spacious rooms, mountain views! - House on the Hill was fabulous! Bright, spacious room and clean, modern shared bathrooms. Gorgeous mountain views from our room! Every room has designated space in the fridge so it’s very organized! Don’t plan to do any serious cooking here though. The kitchen only has a microwave, no hot plate/stovetop or oven.
- HS (10/5): Höfn guesthouse, simple style - Good price for a spacious room in Höfn. I booked the one which needs to share two bathrooms with six other bedrooms. I thought it would be bad but actually because all the guests are respecting, there is no bathroom fight at all. The bathrooms are very nice, seems recently renovated. The kitchen is clean and welcoming. The room 1 is clean with two big windows. The owner seems very thoughtful.
- Kellie (10/5): - Very nice place to stay. Bedroom was comfortable. Bathroom was clean and nice and loved the heated floors.
- Sara (8/5): Nice place for a short stay - Comfortable room with a view of vesturhorn. Bathrooms are shared and they have a common dining table downstairs with an assigned shelf in the fridge and microwave.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable stay - Room is spacious and comfortable. 3 rooms on the ground floor sharing 1 toilet with shower. Kitchen is a bit small but well equipped. Wifi is very strong and there is a tv in room. A very nice place to stay in Hofn.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful find! - Wonderful find! We just stopped in for one night during our roadtrip along the coast. We got checked in quickly, and the service was super friendly. Nice room, comfy bed, clean bathroom/kitchen. And, as an extra perk, really cute decor! Would definitely stay here again.
- Arumugam (8/5): Good place to stay in Höfn area - The accommodation was great, clean house and spacious. Shower was too small and cramped and the drain was slow. Fancy stove top took awhile to figure out.
- Phill (10/5): Great place - Nice and cozy. If it got busy it could get loud since there were only 3 other rooms occupied when we stayed there and we could hear them moving around quite a bit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel with great view - This hotel had a beautiful view from the kitchen and the facilities were very clean throughout the duration of our stay. Our king bed was very comfortable and the location was very quiet as well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): 5 Star Luxury - The host was incredibly friendly and made her guests feel so welcomed. She was a wealth of information, extremely passionate about the area she lives in. And she cooks perfect boiled eggs. The facilities are fabulous, clean, spacious and so comfortable. Hotels.com said this space has a kitchenette, however, there is a microwave and a fridge. Don't plan to come here and make dinner! Fortunately there are plenty of good restaurants around town.
- kayleigh (10/5): Cozy stay - Really enjoyed this spot! Very welcoming and comfortable, in a great location close to the glacier lagoon and diamond beach. Close to a grocery store and has a decent kitchen space for making simple meals. Clean rooms and gorgeous bathrooms. The views are excellent. I will be recommending this place to friends!
- Karen (8/5): Frozen 2 - I did put a review up on this place but wanted to add to it by saying that we decided to stay a while longer before checking out (2 hours) and by then the hot water was on again and so we did get a hot shower. I don’t think this issue was the fault of the owners. I think one group had VERY long showers.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely place to stay, very clean. - Lovely place to stay. We had two rooms for one night and both were to a high standard. The place was very clean. Friendly staff lady on arrival. Would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Simply the best place in East Iceland - This was an amazing guesthouse! I was tired from a long drive and I just wanted a clean and comfy place to rest. This place exceeded that. The owner was very friendly and took her time to get us settled in.the room was new clean, Just that fresh feeling when you get out of a sauna. Bed was comfy and the shower was awesome! And the view of the local mountains are welcoming.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great, clean and comfortable - Such a great place with a great view. Very helpful staff and great facilities.
- Edwin (10/5): Lovely House - We like the house very much. So clean and comfortable. The house owner is friendly. We arrived late at night after check in time but our room was prepared. One thing I would suggest is the house needs a stove. Any kind of stove for light cooking but the house does offered a microwave. House is sweet. The most impressive is the house is really clean. Highly recommend it!
- Jasmine (10/5): Perfect! - We stayed one night at house on the hill and I wished we could have stayed longer! The room was beautifully clean and well presented. Even thought we arrived and left in a storm, the view was still wonderful. The shared bathrooms and kitchen were clean, tidy and at no point was there a wait for these facilities. The booking information said we needed to contact the hotel for checking in information - but this was not the case. It was a turn up and get your key - simple. The photos do not do the hotel justice! I would love to stay again.
- Adrien (10/5): - Hotel Kjarnalunder was a great place to stay for a couple nights in Akureyri! Great service, delicious breakfast and the location outside of the city and the hot tubs were a nice bonus.
- Mallik (10/5): Boutique styled guesthouse that you should stay at - This was truly an exceptional place to stay. It must have been recently renovated because all fixtures and furniture looked brand new. Very clean and well organized. Bathrooms were also very clean and have heated floors. Rooms have large windows that afford incredible views of the mountains and let in a lot of light. Beds were very comfortable. If it wasn't for the shared bathrooms, it feels like you are staying at a boutique hotel. The only downside is that there is no stove in the kitchen but there is a microwave oven. I wish could have stayed longer than one night. Definitely consider staying here if you are spending the night in Hofn.
- Matthew (10/5): Quaint spot in Höfn - Rooms were very nice. Shared bathrooms but very clean. Not really sure if there is a reception area as when we arrived we pushed an intercom button and a staff member showed us directly to our room. There’s a kitchenette area for guests to use. Beds were comfortable. Very nice place and enjoyed our stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best room in Iceland - Great hotel, comfortable/clean room, kitchen area, clean bathroom, most restaurants within 15 minutes walk. Definitely recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic place to stay, met some fellow travellers in the common area that were very friendly, great facility - I didn’t have hot water for a shower but two others had just showered before me so I’m sure if I had been able to wait it would have been fine. I would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to anyone who is visiting Hofn.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We thought we were getting a room for 3 people and it ended up being a full apartment. Place was very comfortable and the added kitchen and clothes washer were very useful. Place was clean, well taken care of, and easy to get in and out of.
- Tee (10/5): Clean and comfortable hotel - well worth the price - This home is fully equipped with great ammentities. Very modern and very clean. Home was close to a bunch of different restaurants, grocery stores and gas station. Great bang for my buck - Definitely will stay here again!
- Guillaume (10/5): Great guesthouse with super facilities - This is a great greathouse and the facilities are really nice, the pictures do not do this place justice. Everything looks brand new and was super clean, would definitely recommend to anyone staying in Höfn.
- IcelandTravel (8/5): Clean, Easy to Find, Perfect for Roadtrippers - Our Experience at the House on the Hill was a surprising delight. We were spending the night in Hofn so that we could be close to Skofagoss the next morning. Our room was incredibly clean, the shared kitchenette area was stocked with clean dishes and there was a fridge specific for our room's use. The door's locked which was nice for privacy. It's close to the main highway, incredibly clean, the staff was friendly and it was a perfect stop-over on our journey. As an added bonus we even saw the Northern Lights from our room!
