Guest Reviews
- Vishal (2/5): Worst hotel ever - It's the dirtiest scummiest place I have ever stayed at I was a fool to book this place didn't realise what kind of poo hole this is
- Jake (2/5): - had trouble with reservation, took far too long to arrange things and had to be diverted to a new hotel as they didn’t have the right room for me.
- Roy (2/5): - Beware!!! Dirty and noisy place. Money waisting. Never again.
- Cristina (2/5): To avoid at all costs - I am very sorry to give such a negative review, but this was the worst hotel I ever stayed in. There were bugs in the bathroom, stains on the bed linen, leaves in the room, litter in front of the venue. The people at the reception did their best to be kind and polite, which I appreciated.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It was an overall infection risk. It was booked as somewhere to stay with it being advertised as somewhere that would be suitable for me and my disabled partner for the night. The property was in no way suitable. It was a major infection risk as my boyfriend still has wounds on his leg that haven’t quite healed. There was rotting food in the room and even in the one we were moved to. Uneven floors and bathroom doors that were broken. The woman behind the front desk just didn’t seem to care that we had complaints and couldn’t stay in that room. She just seemed like she wanted us to get back to the room and leave her for the night. Overall I just wouldn’t stay here again. It’s made me question ever wanting to return to Leicester again and I know that it’s just a bad hotel experience. I’d be damned if I stayed in this hotel again
- Daniel (2/5): Never again!!!! - Bed u comfy shower broken stale bread or Frosties in the morning - room was dirty and shower floods!!!!
- Joseph (2/5): Stay was DISGUSTING!!!! - It was absolutely horrific, had to wait 3 hours to check in, got into my room and the toilet seat fell off aswell as there was dust all over the skirting boards, cobwebs around the sealing, the radiator was stuck on full all night, got woken up at 7am by one of the members of staff shouting at each other! Tried complaining at reception on the way out and she was foreign and tried acting like she didn’t know what I was saying! the bathrooms flooring was peeling up and was just laid on top of the old stuff, one mug had a hair in also.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - They couldn’t refund the money if i wanted to cancel
- Verified traveler (4/5): - There is a reason it was the cheapest room in town. Don't expect too much but if you need a roof over your head then this will do. Not the kind of place you would stay for more than one night. It is walking distance from the city centre which is a bonus.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A grand old building, this could be so much more and hopefully it may, one day, be returned to its former glory. At the moment, however, there is a sense that it is ticking along but hasn't got long left to live.
Those manning the reception we amazing. Polite, helpful and happy.
There are a few stairs but to any normal human, they won't pose a problem.
Our room was clean, fresh sheets and had no odour. The carpet had seen better days, mind you. Walls had been damaged, plastered in but not been sanded or painted over to hide the original hole/dent. A small TV was propped up against a wall, no use to anyone, and could have done with a little work to pop it up on a bracket. A white curtain covered the window and was fairly ineffective at blocking the light though a t-shirt draped over ones eyes did the trick! Beds are soft but comfortable.
Bathroom was clean and ensuite which was a lovely surprise as I thought it was shared! The shower was a bit disappointing as it would fill up after a few second with the shower on. I must admit that standing in ones own dirty water makes my stomach turn, but if you think about it, it's not unlike a bath!
Overall, myself and my friends had a good night sleep in a venue that was close to the centre (a mile) and offered us everything we needed.
If you're planning on spending very little time in your room, because you're out drinking or sight seeing then this place, for the money, this place is fine.
If you want luxury...jog on!
- MISS (6/5): - Staff was very friendly and attentive, but they seem to not care much about the place.
More attention should be given to the building maintenance and outside cleaningness.
Mattresses should be changed as you can feel the springs.
I think they could turn the place into something better.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Toilet seats was broken very uncomfortable to sit toilet door wasn’t shutting (no privacy) would have requested room ground floor.room given second floor, very inconvenient no lift also no WiFi came on
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not impress - Desk do not have essential information required for customers such as parking.
TV not working, actually look like just a big computer monitor, no switch no remote (really funny to the family)
- Owen (8/5): You get what you pay for - The location of the hotel is great. You get what you pay for really having read the previous reviews I didn’t have high expectations. If anything I was more impressed having compared it to them. Definitely one of the most sketchy hotels I’ve stayed in but for the money was alright. Didn’t risk the breakfast. Staff very mixed attitudes also was knocking on the door at 10:45 telling us we need to check out was unnecessary. The woman on reception in the day was lovely, the bloke at night was a bit crackers knocking on our door but good times.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really hot in my room. More options for a warm breakfast would be nice
- Verified traveler (2/5): Dont go unless there is nowhere else to sleep - This is a tired old hotel which looks like it may be offering accommodation to local people too? Its really tatty, smells of cigarette smoke and is on the brink of being a hostel more than a hotel. Shower was cold at night scorching in the morning. Breakfast is awful - Everything there is basic no frills and i could not wait to get out of there. My bedroom furniture had "mad frank" etched into the drawer.....Not suitable for children and i would never return. I have contacted the manager but i suspect i will not hear back.
- Barry (8/5): Good cheap accommodation - Better than expected, perfectly good for the low price, friendly staff
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Nice people but clearly not fussed about the hotel. Room was constantly bright with a flimsy curtain. Sun rose straight into the room so was up at 5am both mornings. Bed springs have completely gone. And weirdly rice was over the floor??!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Victorian style property with no lift nd very hard doors. Not suitable for less able people. The mattresses were not good, can get pain with the springs.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The showroom had no hot water dust everywhere and also the bathroom door don't close i even took pictures and the reception don't even communicate well i need a refund I'm not happy i was itching the bed terrible mattress
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The service of the night porter was the only good thing about this place. He did his best to make me comfortable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The hotel stinks of cigarettes. I asked where the smell came from-apparently its the staff who have to smoke at the back door, the smoke is blown into the building.
The room was like a squat. The mattress was very tired, and was in the middle of the room and had no headboard, so the pillows just kept falling off. The old windows let all street noise in-and there was lots.
The breakfast - I decided not to risk it. It consisted of two big bowls of different cereals with cling film on to help yourself., pop up toaster and a kettle.
Room was probably worth £20 but wasn't worth the £35 I spent.
For a extra £10 I could've booked a hotel in the center. I can't imagine I'd stay there again.
- Jonathan (2/5): Appalling - The hotel was advised with parking, there isn't. The girl on reception was very rude. Place is dirty, and so cramped. At 5ft 10ins tall and 12stone, I could only just sit on the toilet squeezed between the sink and wall.Breakfast was stale bread a toaster and a flask of coffee. A rip off.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The paper was dropping in the room , and there was old trunking still left on , you can not come and go when you one to because you have to get a member of staff to let you in .
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Bathroom very dirty, sink did not drain properly, breakfast very poor
- Verified traveler (8/5): Just great - It was really good staying at Victoria hotel. The staff was very caring, literally felt like home
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Dog hole.but in the city centre nothing else to say really
- Steve (2/5): Do not stay - Booked two rooms had no rooms on arrival waited nearly an hour still only had one room which was very poor checked out shocking
- Jade (2/5): Absolutely horrendous! Never stay here.
- I booked this hotel as it was close to the O2 where i was seeing a band. The rooms online looked decent and clean.
When i arrived it could not have been more from what i imagined.
The room was absolutely filthy, the bathroom floor bubbling and full of dirt. The beds had stains all over them, water marks and cigarette burns in them.
The wall paper was falling off all over the hotel.
It was so bad, i wanted to drive straight back home but this wasn't an option as i live far away from Leicester and already had a long drive to get there.
The breakfast stated that it was English breakfast/ continental - there was one choice of cereal, the milk was warm, there was bread defrosting on the table for you to have toast and the juice was watered down. I had one bite of my toast and i checked out immediately after.
I emailed the hotel asking if they had on-site parking as i would have needed parking and they responded saying they do have parking although it is a first come first serve basis. When i got there, i asked the hotel staff if they had parking to which they replied that they didn't have any. I then told them about my email saying they did have parking and the man on the desk told me to park on the pedestrian pavement. (I did not park there and ended up paying to park my car in a car park overnight)
The staff were not helpful and didn't seem to know what they were doing. They were unprofessional and were texting as i was checking in and even had earphone in during breakfast.
- Verified traveler (6/5): My stay at Victoria Hotel - Overall it was o.k.. However WIFI was awful could not connect most of the time. The shower could have been better nothing major though. Old type of building. Reception staff were polite and friendly. It was ideal for me because of the locality and the short notice I had in trying to find urgent accommodation otherwise this would not have been my first choice.
- X (4/5): Unimpressed - The room was like a sauna, no way to turn down the radiator. Window wouldn't open more than 2 inches so had very little sleep. Paid £20 extra for a late checkout only to be awakened by the cleaner at 10.50 then disturbed again 15 minutes later. Totally unacceptable for me. Definitely will not be staying there again!
- Brian (2/5): Bad bad bad - Could not stay. Definately was not 3 star accommodation Toilet seat fell off, bathroom door broken and syringes & rubbish on landing just outside bedroom window. I have photos of it! Still waiting on refund as they also charged us twice for the rooms.
- Melanie (2/5): - Would not return to this hotel bed was broken shower door didnt close. Sheets were dirty staff rude when we complained
- John (6/5): Cheap and Cheerful - Cheap and cheerful
- Nicholas (6/5): acceptable for a cheap sleep - it was clean had ensuite for the price I couldnt complain. for somewhere to cheaply get you head down for one night it's perfectly fine. good location into town.
- Bill (2/5): Bad Hotel. Staff trying their best. - Wallpaper in bad condition. No towels in the bathroom. Lack of headboard even though the bed was in the middle of the room. Single glassed windows even though the Hotel was next to main road and pub. Lack of duty manager.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cheap bed for the night - All I needed was a cheap bed for the night. This hotel is pretty basic, but the room was clean, it was near the railway station, and there was cereal and toast available for breakfast. I probably wouldn't choose to stay for a holiday or extended period, but for a one-night stopover it was fine.
- Charlotte (2/5): Dreadful hotel, don't stay here ever. - A 2 star place at best. Shabby and run down. More like a low rate hostel than a hotel. The bedroom was very small but the bathroom was more like a closet with a sliding door that kept getting stuck. There was no hot water when I tried to have a shower and I had to get the one staff member on the reception to check what was wrong before I left for the evening. No bedside lamp, only overhead lights which made it tricky to navigate once the lights were off.
When I returned at midnight I was told I needed to move to the vacant room next door where the hot water was working. I was handed a key to the room and told to bring the other one back down when I was done. There was no offer of assistance or even an apology for the inconvenience. The second room was even smaller. There were old bloodstains on the duvet cover and the mattress was all bobbly with no protector under the sheet. There were what looked like pubic hairs stuck to the duvet where it was sticking out of the cover. I slept on top of the duvet as the bed was so uncomfortable. The bathroom was even tinier than the first one but the shower wouldn't get more than slightly warm. Graffiti was scratched onto the bedside table that was also covered in stains and burn marks and also held the kettle, tea and coffee making. The water in the bathroom tasted funny so I didn't feel safe drinking it. The carpet was dirty and the walls were stained. Absolutely awful place to stay.
- Emily (8/5): Good location, great price - Overall we had a pleasing experience at Victoria hotel. It’s amazing value for money and it’s very comfortable and welcoming place.
The room was great, but when we checked in there were finished toilet paper rolles in the floor and used soap on the sink. It’s not a big deal, but just wasn’t as satisfying to see that. And another downfall is that it’s advertised on here that there’s complimentary English breakfast, however it.was just a small selection of cereals and juices on the table.
I’m not complaining because overall the value for money is great. Just fixing small mistakes can improve the hotel reviews massively
- Jon (2/5): - Showers were cold and the bathroom door broken. Windows were thin and didn't shut tight so the sounds of a busy part of Leicester is constantly in the background.
I give them kudos for doing breakfast but there was not bread, they claimed they run out but there was no one there so it's not like they went and got some. Also the location being good (close to New Walk & the train station)
- Paul (4/5): Very dissatisfied - Where to start , in need of a serious refurb , paint splashes on doors , bed was squeaky n creaky as you like , bedding needs upgrading , £10 for a key deposit , there is parking but only suits small cars , this is more of a doss house than a hotel , the sliding door on bathroom was broken , the sink is that close to the toliet you can wash your face at the same time , the shower and tv did work thou
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Worst experience- chked out within an hour - Nightmare
- Ben (4/5): Very basic. No hot water. - Was cheap so I guess you get what you pay for. Basic room not particularly clean, shared toilet, but shower and sink in room. I had no hot water for my shower. Breakfast consisted of limited cereal options and toast. Only one parking space available that I could find. Wifi was fine and bedsheets were clean. Staff were fine. Won't be staying again but was very cheap.
- Zubeda (2/5): The worst hotel we stayed at with rooms filthy - There were no cups spoons in the rooms. I had a dirty cup in my room..and no tea bags etc.We had to keep going down to ask for it.I had about 5 sheets of toilet paper. Theresa an empty coke tin in my shower. My cousin's bin had not been emptied from previous guest. Out side the hotel
were bags of rubbish and also between room window and wall .no head board. At breakfast no toaster on second day and the washandlingbread and not using a plate which put us off from asking him for toast. All there was white bread and we had to ask for brown which again was delivered in his hands and cereal. Orange applejuice tea coffee. No yoguts or croissants Tables not laid properly no teaspoons tablecloths falling off. Loose wires in my bedroom. WiFi not working and also my TV not working. It was a dump .Needs inspectors to go in.Staff was smoking in the reception area. I told them a hostel is much better than the dump they call a hotel. I have taken pictures tomprove my statement. I DEMAND at least half of our money back.It was a way from the town not as told in the town. I spoke to them and they told me to take it up with Expedia as we booked through them. I want half of my money back as we put up with it under very poor conditions. My cousin's room stunk of. a dirty drain.I hope to have a satisfactory reply from you within 7 days otherwise I am going to take it further and I will also report the conditions to health and safety and also hotel inspectors Thank you .Look forward to being satis
- Chris (6/5): As basic as they come - If you just need a bed for the night as cheap as possible and close to the trains station in Leicester then go for it. If you want any kind of comfort, service, or amenities then look elsewhere.
- Traveller (2/5): Don’t stay here - The place is disgusting. Needs a total refurb. My room had stains on carpet and bed, no headboard or wall behind the bed. The bed was about 10cm away from the window. Curtain was see through and didn’t fit the window. Shower was cold and just a trickle of water, hairs in the shower from previous occupant. No hand towel or bathmat. Wallpaper peeling off the wall, just plasterboard in the bathroom. Breakfast was toast or cereal. Expected a full English. On the website, it states parking on site. There was no parking. Would not stay again and wouldn’t pay more than £10 . I didn’t sleep in my room, it was that bad. I have stayed in hotels all over the country and abroad and this was easily the worst. Looks like a pay by the hour hotel.
- Lisa (2/5): Horrible, dirty, will never book again - Here are the reasons for why we will never again book the Victoria hotel:
• dirty - condom packets in room, no clean sheets until we demanded them. Basically dirty all around.
• jack was bitten by fleas
• no wifi
• showers did not work and were filthy
• radiators in rooms did not work
• windows would not close fully so constant draft in the room
• beds were uncomfortable.. 2 singles pushed together
• televisions didn't work, no signal
• no secure parking, the car left on a busy road overnight
• doors wouldn't lock properly on rooms
• half sockets in the room didn't work so had to buy extension leads
In general, the hotel was very poor and the staff were not very accommodating in resolving these issues
- Elaine (8/5): - Hotel 5 mins walk from railway. The single room was small, it did have a TV/kettle/cup/tea/coffee. I was in the front of the building but was on a main road, extremely noisy throughout the night. I couldn't have stayed longer than the weekend I had booked. Only had cereal, toast, tea, coffee, fruit for breakfast but was substantial for me. Room was nicely warm, clean white bedding + towels.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good Location but...... - NO hot water and very limited parking, you have to park on a kerb weaving between lamposts and traffic lights.
- mike (4/5): Run down hotel , staff ok . diy standard of fixtu - Noisy. Single glazed. Broken fixtures. Poor breakfast choice. More like a poor 1 star.
