Guest Reviews
- Roger (9/5): A unique apartment in an ancient Cotswold house with many quirky features which we enjoyed. - Convenient location, lovely back garden, historic building.
- Julia (6/5): Pretty character property, although a little tired. - Have been coming back for the last 3 years for badminton horse trials. Location is only 25 mins from venue. Beautiful spacious period building with quirky features. Pub literally next door if you don’t want to cook. Property still has no freezer and feels tired with furniture and beds, staircase is narrow outside and steep if you have mobility issues.
- Gerardo (8/5): Good stay - Good location Found used clothes and dirty towels in one of the wardrobes
- Vicky (9/5): Lovely - Spacious, lovely building and surroundings. Nothing
- Martin (7/5): -
- Joseph (10/5): Well-appointed, high ceilings, stylish and comfortable with lovely views and great food nearby! - My sister and I booked The Grigshot apartment last minute due to an oversight in our scheduling. We couldn’t have been happier or felt luckier that it was an open—what a treasure! There’s also wonderful pub/restaurant with exceptional staff next to the apartment, The Old Fleece (owned by the same people). We hope to return and stay again.
- John (5/5): - Quirky and attractive The bed in the main queen picture bedroom was very uncomfortable. Needs a new mattress. Poor nights sleep. Kitchen very poorly equipped. Limited cutlery. Etc.
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Fiona (8/5): Nice place- will come back. - Lots of character. Very comfortable beds. Kitchen was lacking cutlery. Hot water pressure in taps not great.
- Lianne (9/5): Short but sweet stay - would book again - Lovely and spacious
Unusual in a good way! Steep stairs up to property
- Diana (8/5): Spacious but tired - Spacious accommodation offering 3 large double bedrooms. A bit tired in places and up a very steep fire escape style stairs which is shown on the photo but not really mentioned so not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.
- Will (1/5): DONT STAY HERE - The property could be amazing as the house is increasing but unfortunately that is where the praise stops I don’t honestly don’t know how this property hasn’t got a poor rating? The place was filthy cobwebs everywhere and array of dead & alive bugs. The chair & sofa in the lounge was actually black with dirt the whole bottom of the sofa has broken so you can’t actually sit on it. The flat is full with either broken or the worst possible quality furniture possible. The table in the kitchen can’t be sat at as it’s so wobbly. I darted to read the reviews & one from November reported that most of the light bulbs don’t work & they still don’t. It’s absolutely freezing in the flat & is no way of turning up the heating which is good as the flat doesn’t have a freezer? The way into the flat is through their garden which is lit by 1 of the worlds smallest floodlights. The up to the flat was named by my children ‘The stairs of death’. Anyone with mobility issues won’t be able to leave the car park as it’s so dangerous. We always get an AirB&B at Christmas which are usually up on the common so was hyped when I saw this one. Would definitely say stay in one of them as this one is so bad DO NOT STAY HERE
- Tracy (10/5): Great historical house, adds to the atmosphere of the stay - Easy to get to reception and was walked to the apartment and had everything explained by a lovely lady. Apartment was large and spacious. Good facilities with plenty of furniture. Great historical atmosphere Scary outside stairs but a good work out from the car park to the top apartment
- Rikki (10/5): - Roaming in the gardens was one of our highlights. The apartment was charmed with unusual furniture and fancy touches of Indian and african decor. The architecture of the building is already exciting, with an attic room full of exposed beams and wooden stairs leading up from the dining area, matching the black iron twisting staircase leading up to the door. Perhaps if you were unsteady on your feet you might not like it but we thought this look was exciting, relaxing and welcome, away from our health and safety designed world. I would love to meet there again with my family.
- Paul (3/5): House had lots of nice features bit it was cold and wood lice infested - house had lots of character but was really cold the 1st night
The pub next door kindly supplied fleecy blankets on request
It warmed up nicely just in time for us leaving. it was really cold in the living room - heating hadnt been on long enough to heat a large old house like that.
There were lots of wood lice. Several light bulbs had blown and not been replaced,
There was a split in the wooden window sill which fell on the floor when I leant on it revealing lots more wood lice.
The fire escape stairs (the only way in) are lethal when wet and the top railing is wobbly
some of the issues were quickly remedied eg lamp replaced etc but there were several blown light bulbs that were not
- shaun (8/5): Only there for the night to see a band but a nice town - Lovely property, quirky but may be sort the floors out as there so uneven Handrail at top of stairs to door need attention
- Kristian (10/5): -
- Hew (7/5): Good stay - Comfortable and well located
- Ian (8/5): - This was a stylish spacious atmospheric property. Loved it. One of the beds was low and a little uncomfortable. This with traffic noise meant a poor nights sleep.
- Natasha (7/5): Large apartment full of character - Convenient to have pub next door.
Large apartment.
Quirky and full of character. Apartment beds/sofa could be refreshed, cleaning under the sofas and beds ais needed, toilet needs looking at because it is running continuously.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Had a great time, the apartment is in a good location for a few days in the Cotswolds. Also had really good meal at the - Spacious and unique accommodation, great location Nothing comes to mind
- Cheryl (8/5): If you like quirky spacious properties, this is perfect - Mattress in second (large bedroom) probably needs turning/changing
- Chloe (10/5): Beautiful - Beautiful inside, home from home feel It didn’t bother us as we were aware of them but the stairs up to the property can feel quite steep and a little daunting after a day at a wedding!
- Michael (9/5): Great for 3 generations of one family - Our 3 generational family stayed for 2 nights in this lovely apartment. All 3 bedrooms are very spacious with lots of original architectural features. The living area and dining/kitchen has everything we needed to self-cater. We are so pleased, we've booked again for the same weekend next year. We didn't find it a problem but others may not like having no locks on the bathroom and shower room doors. We solved it very easily by saying "If the door is closed, it's occupied" Simple.
- James (9/5): Superb - Big, comfortable accommodation Difficult to get upstairs. My poor mum stubbed her toe due to a combination of low ceiling and higher step
- Davison (8/5): Very good -
- Julia (9/5): Our 2nd time staying and have already booked for next year - Spacious and a beautiful period house. Great sized rooms. Stairs up to apartment are a little narrow and no freezer.
- Leah (8/5): Fun! And beautiful building - Beautiful building, good location and friendly staff. We loved the garden! It was a bit noisy with the road and the dogs
- Charlotte (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gareth (10/5): Great interesting place - The character is excellent. It's grade 2 listed so if you expect finely manicured drb decor there is a travelodge near the m5. Being grade 2 means single glazed windows, exposed beams, unconventional storage and seating areas. It's fabulous..We loved our stay, we fully expect no condiments or washing tablets etc. Bring your own. I travel weeks and weeks at a time for work and this place is brilliant. The pub next door is lovely, I would highly recommend staying, but expectations should be .are It's an old building not a monoblock dull shell As others the only thing is the metal staircase. There absolutely must be a better way to get in, widening them would be helpful.
- Mcsorley (9/5): Superb -
- Debbie (10/5): Fabulous property - The rooms were beautifully furnished and very comfortable.
- Christopher (7/5): Good -
- Elizabeth (7/5): Comfortable - Nice place a bit quirky Not a great location
- Sally-ann (1/5): Not going back. - Not enough bath towels , the kitchen did Not have tea towels, oven glove, kitchen towel,or dish wash tablets.
The access was a fire escape which was dangerous and difficult to get cases up etc .
- Jordan (9/5): Great night sleep in a fantastic location and property - Very spacious and well decorated, the top room with the beams was a spectacular room It’s an old building so not particularly a dislike but was very uneven
- Gregory (10/5): - A very unique interesting stay. Highly recommend it.
- Sofia (10/5): Great design, best deal, super for family - It was great: cosy, warm, spacious and authentic! The host was thoughtful Nothing
- Charlotte (8/5): Beautiful apartment - Gorgeous apartment and great pub next door The cot didn't have any mattress or sheets. Also would have helped to have a little welcome pack with some basic supplies.
- Cheryl (9/5): Superb - N/a Couple of lamps weren't working
- Gemma (8/5): Loved it! - This property is absolutely beautiful. The staff and food in The Old Fleece Pub next door was first class service and food, delicious! We had a lovely time, thank you!
The only thing I would say is if you have any mobility issues with steps, the top apartment does have steep steps to walk up, otherwise perfect and would definitely recommend! Just the steep steps.
- Anne (10/5): We were delighted with the accommodation and found the staff to be helpful and friendly. -
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Stepan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennie (8/5): Very good -
- Rhona (6/5): Character or needs attention...you decide. - Nice and quiet, with garden views to the back and hillside to front. Comfortable bed, with electric sockets on either side. A must for us as we both use sleep apnea devices. There is plenty of room to move around. Could have done with a couple of racks for luggage.
If the apartment was on the ground floor or with an internal staircase, we'd probably stay again. We found the stairs up to the entrance very narrow and tight, not ideal for someone with size 12 feet and a bit of a hight phobia.
Once in, we noticed the floors were more than a bit uneven, with some exceedingly squeaky floorboards. As you enter the kitchen/dinner, the floor definitely slopes down, and as you walk towards the sink, it feels a bit like you're on a boat on slightly rough waters, and the cupboard with all the crockery and glasses rattled every time you crossed the room. We also noticed A LOT of insects running around the floors. We think there woodlice.
There were also a lot of dead insects lying around.
On a lighter note, the telly seemed to be tuned to the wrong area. We kept getting the weather for the London area. And channels were few and far between.
Light switches...still to find them, and those we did find were in awkward positions, and at least 2 had no working bulb.
I did no cooking at all, so I can't comment on the appliances /equipment.
We think a house manual would help.
- Jansen (7/5): Very nice property, just be aware of access restrictions if you have poor mobility. - It was a 3 bedroom apartment with parking. The bedrooms were massive. Some of the light switches were in unusual places (none by the door you enter), and the living room switch is in the middle of the room.
The 3rd bedroom (in the eaves) has restricted height, so this should ideally be mentioned in the description.
Access to the property is at the back, so you have to go up hill with a couple of sets of garden steps, and to enter the apartment you have to go up some very narrow metal "fire escape style" steps, with two 90deg bends. These are very difficult/precarious if you have poor mobility (which one of our party did), and factor this in if you are taking suitcases.
- Katie (10/5): What an apartment! Kids had their own rooms, bathrooms spacious, free parking. Would definitely return! - The space! Nothing!
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (7/5): Very cosy for a winter break - Spacious, warm and comfortable. Cooking equipment could have been better.
Pepper and oil always useful staples, a can of peas not so much. Some utensils v greasy. Sports not great as the
Didn't particularly like sharing with the colony of woodlice
- Debra (8/5): Very good -
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely apartment- spacious and well furnished, very comfortable
- Jo (9/5): Superb -
- Kofi (7/5): Good - Plenty of space & quiet Didn't realise there would be so many steps outside including a spiral stairs to get into the place. Should mention this at point of booking.
Dirty oven.
- Joeanne (8/5): Very good - Brilliant location and all the rooms are very spacious. Really lovely place to stay The stairs up to the property are very steep and a bit ricerty. They are not suitable for people with mobility issues
- Linda (5/5): Pre wedding stay for bridal party - Underfloor heating in bathroom . Characterful building. Surprising amount of road noise in night in bedrooms. Floor felt as though dishes etc were about to come tumbling off shelves .HATED exterior metal staircase, particularly around access door, far scarier than I imagined it would be. Large puddle of water at base of staircase, difficulty for bride to keep dress dry....small paved area needed to step down onto?. Staff showed one party into studio apartment already occupied by family even tho we queried it🤷
- Sally (7/5): Good location , friendly pub next door parking - Decor , location , friendly staff Freezer was complete block of ice so unable to use.
Hot water scalding & shower unable to adjust water temperature. We did report and they promised to fix in time for next arrival
This apartment is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems steep metal narrow steps up to the apartment .
Would also be careful with young children, no locks to stop windows opening and easy for child to open door straight onto outside steps.
- Katie (8/5): Cool property next to a good pub! - Proximity to a nice pub was super helpful if you don't want to venture any further.
The furniture and decor was a really interesting mix, and the place is huge, so plenty of space for 6 of us. The bed in the biggest room could do with a new mattress as it slumped on one side. The place was clean but not spotless.
Some kitchen essentials like salt, pepper and oil wouldn't go amiss.
The place is on quite a busy road so traffic can be heard, particularly from the big room off the living room.
- Graeme (10/5): Penthouse appartment - Amazing space with huge amounts of character Spiral metal staircase to gain access to top floor at back of house is fine but not for those with any kind of mobility issue.
- Emma (9/5): Superb - very characterful apartment with lots of space, great pub food next door
- Anna-louise (9/5): Great location, lovely garden. - The apartment was spacious, comfortable and quirky, I really appreciated the decoration.
- Lian (10/5): Loved the apartment and the decor was wonderfully eclectic. - We didn’t have breakfast included. The location was perfect for us because we wanted to be near the Rodborough Common. We had trouble getting onto the wifi
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheryl (10/5): Great location to explore the city. - The location was good for walking to the main attractions of the area and hiking the hills of the area. The parking spot was wonderful. The apartment was spacious. It was wonderful
- Yael (10/5): Exceptional - The girl from the Old Fleece was lovely and extremely helpful The WiFi password that appeared on the welcome email was wrong, there was no other document in the apartment and the people at the bar didn't know. We couldn't use the internet at all
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nigel (8/5): Very good - Good location , comfy bed , pub next door Only I bad thing dirty tray in oven
- Naomi (9/5): Superb -
- Evaldas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lynne (8/5): Very good -
- Hew (8/5): Very good -
- Sheridan (6/5): Cotswolds visit for Easter bank holiday - great location with a fantastic restaurant next door, lovely staff and took dogs - owned by the same people as the apartment so got 10% discount. 2 big bedrooms downstairs then smaller bedroom upstairs - watch your head!
just down the road from the Woodchester valley vineyard too so great location. it has 2 bathrooms but only one has one shower so can be a pickle trying to sort shower arrangements.
no hot water in the kitchen tap and all basic own brand cleaning equipment - only one pan for eggs and no spatular (not a major issue but difficult when making eggs for breakfast)
we took the extra chairs out the bedrooms and put in the living room so we could sit together in the morning.
dogs - we brought our timid cockapoo with us and the owner who lives downstairs has 2 bigger dogs that we’re playing in the garden when we arrived, wasn’t a massive issue but didn’t feel as though we could leave her out alone encase they came out.
the property is accessed via fire stairs on the outside of the property, not a big issue for us, but could be quite difficult if you have low mobility.
overall was a nice stay, good value for money.
- Judy (9/5): Our stay in Stroud was all about comfort!! - We were a little under the weather and the lovely staff at the attached pub restaurant brought our meals up to us which was very kind! What we were really after here was comfort and this place delivered in spades - both in terms of the lounge room and the beds. Loved our stay here!!!!
- Luisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emily (10/5): Absolutely brilliant A+++ - Everything.
The space available inside is amazing and meant we could relax without being on top of each other.
Blown away by the size of the bedrooms.
stunning features throughout.
Lovely and clean, great kitchen to cook in with everything you would need.
The garden is beautiful and would be perfect for summer evenings. Absolutely nothing.
The only thing to be mindful of is the steps to access the property but I would let this put you off at all. Just need to supervise children when using them.
- Erica (9/5): Superb - Last minute booking due to cancellation of original plan. First apartment wasn't suitable so they swapped us straight away to a better alternative. Food very good in the restaurant in the evening. Had to bring our stuff through a busy restaurant to take it up to the apartment. Plus dog and 2 year old. Glass coffee table bit worrying with a 2 year old zooming round.
- Amanda (8/5): Good space, very comfortable and great choice for a work get-together -
- John (6/5): We enjoyed our weekend stay overall - Heating needs to be better in Evenings (Mornings OK) - Interior had Olde worlde decor but with "modern" touches
Spacious Accommodation overall, 2 x nice Bathrooms
Clean, rooms - great size comfy Double Beds Draught from Front Door making lounge Area cold, particularly in the evenings - suggest a Curtain over front door or draught excluder along bottom edge of door
FRENCH Microwave - English Instructions would be useful - managed to work out operation after some trial and error !
Kitchen Sink Area Dark - needs a bulb in the table lamp nearby so you can see what you are washing up !
Central Heating went off around 5pm for both nights we stayed so Apartment became quite cold - putting on Thick Jumpers helped !
Apartment on top floor - you need to be reasonably fit going up stone steps and narrow, metal (3 x flight) staircase , especially with bags and be aware of dog poo on the way too/from apartment !
- Jane (8/5): Enjoyable break - We really liked the apartment, it's very spacious, clean and well presented. Very quirky inside with lots of different levels and rooms, and the two full bathrooms (one with bath and one with shower) were very useful. The Old Fleece pub/restaurant next door, was fantastic. The food was wonderful and the staff so friendly. There are some lovely walks in the area. I hadn't realised (my fault perhaps) that the access to the property was from the rear via what can only be described as a "challenging" set of steps, which resembled a fire escape. It was very difficult to carry a suitcase up there and for the dogs to come up and down. I know this wouldn't apply to a summer stay, but although there was a light over the main entrance steps, the bottom set of steps in the garden was in almost pitch blackness and should have been cleared of leaves, it was a little dangerous and very slippery. I only wanted to make people aware of this, as overall we had a good time, we are in our early 60s and I think less able people would struggle with the access.
- Jill (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (9/5): Great value spacious comfortable apartment - Very spacious and comfortable. Clean. Quirky decor. Good facilities, tv, microwave, dishwasher etc. Parking adjacent. Pub next door.
- Lindsay (5/5): We enjoyed the venue and location, however the hosts could have made it more welcoming. - Spacious rooms and eclectic decor in an apartment In an old house Instructions on how to use appliances would be helpful. No hot water coming out of the taps in kitchen or bathrooms . Coffee machine didn’t work. Spiral staircase was tricky with suitcases
- Joanne (10/5): Lovely weekend in a very comfortable apartment - Very spacious comfortable accommodation with easy parking and access to a shared garden.
Good quality furnishings and a full sized kitchen.
A pub next door meant you could eat out without driving and even gave a discount to Grigshot guests
Staff very helpful
Check in and out quick and easy lot of steps to get up to the apartment and access the garden. Could be a problem for those with mobility issues
- Loretta (10/5): Fantastic relaxing awesome stay. Beautiful house and gardens. Great pub attached and brilliant walks - Great apartment, so spacious and original features throughout. Great pub attached with excellent food and service. Very friendly and and staff on the ball! Did not want to go home! Nothing
- Rachel (9/5): v comfortable and beautiful apartment with original windows and features - beautiful apartment on top floor nothing,
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sara (8/5): Very good - the property was spacious and well equipped the access but we did know about it in advance - a lot of stairs!
- Glen (10/5): - Quirkey very large apartment with sloping squikey floors but very comfortable.the pub next door is owned by the same people and the food and service is fantastic and you get a 10% discount would highly recommend this place to stay if your in the Cotswolds
- Verified traveler (10/5): great visit...mind the stairs - spacious 3 bed 2 story unit with lots of older features and modern updates.
Pub restaurant next door is excellent and offers a discount for residents
Entry is via a narrow circular staircase at the rear. Hot water pressure is low in one bathroom making hot showers difficult....the bath is fine
- Ignasi (10/5): Great stay! - Nice place, clean and everything you need.
- ANITA (8/5): - very ,spacious ,well equipped appartment
