I feel for the price we paid, I expected some more variety, better coffee and freshly baked eggs. All over overpriced.

Be aware that there are about 130 stairs from port to hotel! We had to climb them 3 or so times a day, and the first day with suitcases, unless you rent a donkey for 20euro.

- Anthony J (10/5): - The views, room amenities, staff helpfulness are all pluses to the Hotel Hydra. When I chose the hotel, I knew it was up a long path with many stairs. However, the views at the hotel and the surrounding sights made the walk worth it. The signage is good so it is difficult to get lost. The area around the hotel has an historic mansion and the family home of a famous artist. Both were excellent and interesting visits. Nothing not to like. Its not for people who are not fit enough to climb. One small point, in our room, a small shelf under the bathroom sink would be helpful to place toiletries.
- BOISSIERES (9/5): Nice boutique hotel - It was such a pleasure to stay at Hydra Hotel. It is a charming boutique hotel atop of a hill well furnished and decorated. The staff was very nice and the cleaning of the room just perfect ! The breakfast is served on a nice terrace very lovely. The bathroom was a bit old. The bottle of water in the fridge are charged.

Excellent Housekeeping service. I would improve the breakfast adding more choices for hot beverages. The quality of the food is high and this would just add more prestigious to the service.

There are many steps (100 apparently) to get to the hotel from town so not recommended if mobility is an issue. Daphne assured us it got easier each time!

- Natalie (9/5): Fabulous day. Can’t wait to go back. Dafni at reception was exceptional. - It was a fabulous location, albeit with lots of steps but then that’s the nature of hydra! We had the room with the balcony that overlook the harbour which was absolutely beautiful. Breakfasts were lovely as well saved in a lovely terrace. Air-conditioning bedroom was quite noisy and the steps up were a bit of a killer but, as I said, that’s just the nature of the island!

I was in room 201 with spectacular corner views of the port and was right next to the breakfast area with its own outdoor area. Unless you are carrying a light weight bag, just plan on hiring the donkey transportation to the hotel. I carried my heavy bad myself, having not understood how many steps there actually were and would not recommend it! I highly recommend Hydra Hotel for its kind staff, beautiful aesthetics, and insane views!
- Jesper (10/5): Views to die for! - We fell in love with the island and this charming boutique hotel. The view from the bed in the Junior Suite was insanely beautiful. The staff, especially the hostesses, was very friendly and helpful (extra grateful for the recommendations and care of Dafni). The breakfast was fine! The mattresses are hard, we liked it, but it comes to preference. Many people went before us: there were a lot of stairs. The first climb with our luggage was challenging, but climbing them without luggage is okay. Also: the hotel is on an island, which means ferries can get cancelled due to the weather conditions. Consider booking insurance. The hotel was extremely helpful and caring to keep us updated when our ferries got cancelled. Would recommend!

- Diana (9/5): Just lovely, but you better be in good shape for the climb! - Our room was spacious, clean and had a great view of the town up the hill. The shared terrace/breakfast area is a nice bonus. The breakfast selection was small but very good; it could have had more variety day to day. The staff couldn’t have been nicer and were very helpful with local information, reservations, etc. I enjoyed visiting the Lazaros Koundouriotis Historical Mansion, which is just a few doors up the street from the hotel. The largest detriment of the property is the 170+ stair steps from the harbor up to our second (actually third) floor room. We are in our sixties, in pretty good shape (except for our knees!), and did this twice a day for three+ days. It did get easier (haha) and I think I gained some muscle in my legs. Definitely pay for the mule to haul your luggage (the hotel will arrange for this, which should be slightly less expensive than hiring one yourself)!

- Fredrik (8/5): Bird’s-eye view of Hydra town - Pleasant and attentive staff. Great breakfast. Good views of the town and harbour. Comfortable beds. Airconditioned rooms. Traditional building. The location may be a challenge for those who are unfit or suffer from the summer heat. It is a good 165 steep steps up from the centre of town.

This should be made more evident prior to booking. The building is a little dilapidated. We had a lot of water enter the rooms during rain. The breakfast was not made in the hotel and was quite low quality

- Paola (8/5): Modern, clean and minimal boutique hotel which is very close to the centre. exactly what you need - Central but with lots of stairs, very friendly, large rooms, no extra facilities but it had exactly what we needed An espresso machine either in the room or at breakfast, wifi was on my bedside table. Otherwise its a fantastic option and i would stay there again.

Nice buffer breakfast .Be warned you do need to climb the stairs of Hydra to get to the hotel and there are also stairs up to the hotel door and verandah where breakfast is served so not suited for anyone with mobility issues

The only ask I had was for the hotel to reserve a restaurant, which they managed to screw up. The front desk was useless. I would choose the Four Seasons in hindsight.
- Walter (9/5): Wonderful but dangerous to access or leave the property. - Wonderful views. Beautiful rooms. Exceptional breakfasts. Great staff.. If only the town or the hotel could fix the dangerous stairs. Unfortunately, the property can only be reached by climbing about 100+ very dangerous public stairs. The stairs are steep, uneven, frightening and there are no handrails. We are 77 years old and we’re so fearful of the stairs that we stayed in our room all day until we risked them to go to dinner. So we strongly advise senior citizens and anyone with mobility issues to avoid this hotel until handrails are installed. Even the hotel itself needs handrails.

- Jordan (9/5): Very quaint, peaceful and wonderful staff. - Staff were superb. Really helpful and friendly from the date of booking to departure. Hotel was quaint and idyllic set around half way up the hill out of Hydra Port. Lovely room with self-catering facilities if needed. For some, the 5-min windy stairs up through the town to the hotel may be difficult to manage. The hotel did arrange a porter and donkey to carry our cases up and we chose to carry them back down (age 30, moderately active).
- Martin (3/5): try elsewhere - the staff were helpful. we thought this hotel was massively overpriced for what was a tired room with a tiny old bathroom, curtains that didn’t meet and a decrepit old kitchenette thing. no view. there was also no free transfer and as it is located high up meant you needed to pay someone to carry your luggage up steep steps. the breakfast was also underwhelming.
- Tamas (10/5): A superb hotel with excellent room and professional service and with an outstanding breakfast. - Quite a great location with a nice view to town, breakfast was simply amazing. And the staff was super nice and very pro active. When due to a rainy day the terrace was unavailable for breakfast they prepared a breakfast tray for us, which was plenty and high variety of selection. Hard to call out any negative remark. Maybe the only thing is that for breakfast only filtered coffee was served and any other other type of coffee was available for an additional price. With such a great service and high quality of breakfast this was a little bit of a let down.

- Caroline (4/5): Disappointing stay - Quite disappointed, although the room was big (as it was a suite) supposedly sea view (I would say partially sea view actually), and a ridiculously old and small bathroom. Many part needs to be renovated (like electricity). Not even some hooks to hang the towels. For the price (in August it's more than 600 euros), I find it really outreageous. Disappointing breakfast as well (start at 8.30am). All in all cannot understand the excellent reviews (maybe the rooms were less expensive) Also reception closed from 9pm.
- Fabrice (8/5): Overall good hotel but pricey for the room. - The bathroom is not at all at the standards for a 4 star hotel . It has been so called renovated with white painting but even the mirror is pulled with white paint.

- Grazotis (10/5): A relaxing stay at Hydra - The staff were friendly and welcoming. They offered great suggestions about places to visit and eat at. The breakfast was generous and served in the quiet courtyard. This was the perfect place to begin our Greek adventure.

- Bill (8/5): A nice place to stay but beware of some short comings. - My review gives all “excellents” but that is perhaps being over generous. The location is ok but entails a hike up many stairs and makes it necessary to use a mule to transport luggage. Also there is no outside area with a view over the town down to the harbor. The staff were friendly but woefully ignorant and unable to answer basic questions most guests might be asking. Breakfast was good and served in a pleasant patio. We would probably return but would be careful about giving it a recommendation to older and less athletic friends. See above.
- Peter (10/5): Beautiful hotel - We loved our 6 night stay in the Hydra Hotel. The hotel has great character and location. We enjoyed the many steps we regularly climbed to get there from the port, but were pleased we'd prearranged with the hotel for our luggage to be transported by mule. Our room was beautiful, clean, and the views superb. All staff were invariably friendly, positive and helpful. The excellent breakfast in the courtyard was a very pleasurable way to start the day. We look forward to the next time we can stay at this lovely hotel. We were very happy with our room but a few minor maintenance issues such as a partially broken blind and a scraping, difficult to shut bathroom door did detract a little.
