Guest Reviews
- Karl (8/5): - Location was central. Loved the courtyard . Breakfast was very good. Always plentiful and fresh. Enjoyed the dinners in the restaurant.
- Peter (10/5): - Amazing location and great hosts. Great food as well
- Dan (10/5): Small courtyard hotel and restaurant - Helpful, friendly staff, very accommodating. Good location, able to walk to most of city center, close to bus station.
- Helen (8/5): - A Cozy Stay at Stari Tišler – Great Location and Comfort
We had a lovely stay at Stari Tišler. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to help with a smile. The location is ideal—just a short walk from both the train station and the charming old town, which made exploring Ljubljana effortless.
The air conditioning was a lifesaver during the warmer days, keeping our room cool and comfortable. We also really appreciated the breakfast: a generous selection of food, and having it included in the stay was a definite bonus. It set us up perfectly for a day of sightseeing.
The bathroom was another highlight—the shower was powerful with plenty of hot water, which made for a refreshing start and end to each day.
It’s important to remember that Stari Tišler is a guest house, not a luxury hotel—but take it for what it is, and you can’t fail to be charmed. The warmth, character, and thoughtful touches make it a truly memorable place to stay.
Overall, Stari Tišler offers great value, comfort, and convenience. We’d happily stay again!
- Kate (8/5): - *
- Jackie (10/5): - The proprietors are very helpful and hard working and the courtyard setting is delightful.
The room was adequate and quiet
- monica (8/5): - Excellent location. 5 minutes walk from bus depot and city center. Friendly, helpful staff and nice to have restaurant with authentic and delicious Slovenian fare. Outdoor seating in their courtyard was enjoyable.
- David (10/5): - Enjoyable stay with excellent breakfast and nice restaurant for dinner. Convenient to train station and an easy 5-10 minute walk to the old town. No hair dryer in the room but they had one to loan us. Visited in May and the room was a bit musty. No elevator. Would stay there again
- Rebecca (10/5): - Convenient location to access bus station and old town of Ljubljana. Friendly staff. Excellent restaurant.
- Roberta (8/5): - Overall good location for heading to center of town for dining and beverage. Convenient to major bus and train station
Staff very helpful and welcoming.
comfortable accommodations but there are no amenities at all. No laundry facilities, self laundry is a 17 minute walk. No hairdryer in room.
Also Would have been nice to have a common area for brewing hot water for evening tea and refrigerator to hold food because restaurant is not open every day.
- Dianna (8/5): Easy stay - Very nice restored guest house in great location. 5 minute walk from bus and train station and from old town. Nice breakfast. Also a great restaurant on site with excellent food. Room was very nice but not very big. Staff were very helpful.
- Herb (10/5): - Quaint, but updated accommodations. Convenient location and good price. The only issue is there is no elevator.
- Shuqiu (10/5): - Very convenient location provided breakfast good value for money
- Timothy (8/5): - Efficient lodging with a great breakfast to start your day. Location was very convenient. Beds are very low to the floor and could be challenging for those with limited mobility.
- Jose (8/5): Great guesthouse - Great location minutes from bus train and touristy ar3as
- DERRICK (8/5): Short stay. - Excellent location for train station and the old town. Room and bathroom on the small side. Probably not suitable for a person with a disability. Very friendly staff and a lovely breakfast in the courtyard but overlooked by large modern buildings. Perfectly acceptable for a short stay.
- Arindam (8/5): Central point - Was comfortable for one night! Centrally located for access to Central Matket and the Castle. Train station is a 3 min walk.
- Marshall (10/5): - Overall great experience at hotel.
- Rosie (10/5): - A small guest house near the city centre as well as the station.
Breakfast is nice
Staff is lovely
Very value for money
- Trish (6/5): - The offering of food was limited and not enough variety for various diets. Room was small we had asked for 2 beds and the room had four so there was little room for us.
- Ann (10/5): - It was old and quaint
- MARCOS (10/5): - I loved this hotel that is convenient located near train/ bus station and all main attractions of the city. Fantastic place, clean, staff, comfort and great breakfast. Loved vey much.
- Georgina (10/5): Great hosts! Perfect location! - The hosts were very kind. They even made us a to go breakfast since we would be missing the normal breakfast on the morning before our flight. The daily breakfast was delicious and they custom made our coffee each day. The location is perfect! It is only a 5 min walk to the bus/train station and 8 min walk to the Old Town city center. The rooms are very clean and cute.
- Jean (6/5): - Location good, simple, breakfast good.
- David (8/5): - Great location for visting the old town Ljublana., as we could walk to and from the bus depot and the town center. Very nice breakfast with Lattes.
- Ronald J (10/5): I conveniently located friendly guest house - This accommodation is close to both the train and the bus stations. It is a small, historic guesthouse, which also has a restaurant. The included breakfast was very good, and I also ate several meals in the restaurant besides having breakfast. It’s very close to the downtown area as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
- Alex (10/5): - Great spot downtown. Street parking fills up fast but there is a parking garage nearby
- Joshua (8/5): Great location and clean. - Good solid stay. Nothing fancy and slightly dated but good to stay in a clean normal inn. Felt way more local and central. Location was good.
- Andrea (10/5): Small, friendly guesthouse - We only booked one night due to flying home the next day but first impressions were good. Comfortable, clean room and friendly, accommodating staff. Only a 5 min walk from the bus/train station and a short walk into the Old Town.
The only slight negative was the lack of blackout curtains (which didn’t bother us as we needed to be up early) but light sleepers may want to take an eye mask.
- Deborah (10/5): What a Great Place! - Great place. Great location. Extremely helpful staff. Delicious breakfast included.Would definitely return when in Ljubliana.
- Marcos (10/5): Great option in the City Center - Great option, amazing location, amazing staff, amazing food.
- lap (8/5): - Convenient
- Anca (10/5): - Excelent
- Cynthia (10/5): Excellent - Excellent location, cluse to train station and convenient to walk in city for site seeing and restaurants.
- Susan (8/5): - Guest house was good, conveniently located, walkable to old town. Breakfast was good, staff friendly and clean.
- Carolyn (8/5): - Loved the outdoor breakfasts and the dinner options. The rooms were good, beds were comfortable and the location was great. The staff are friendly and helpful and the owner is on-site all day, every day. The only downside was going up the stairs to our 2nd floor room ... difficult because I have arthritis in my knees, but most likely not at all a difficulty for most guests.
Yes, I would stay there again! Overall, it's a lovely place to stay.
Carolyn Petrovic
- Elinor (10/5): - A pleasant stay and I would be happy to stay here again. Very close to the bus and railway stations (less than 5 minutes walk) and about 10 minutes walk to the old town. WiFi a bit patchy but good shower, comfy bed, nice breakfast and friendly helpful staff. Rooms on first floor with no lift. Room was quite big and very clean. Great choice if you want quick access to buses and trains or more space and peace than in the old town.
- Madhu (10/5): - Great place, near to the city center, Betty was simply excellent, extremely helpful, and will guide how to get to places. All the staffs had a great smile and they all know how to assist an outsider.
Fantastic breakfast. Basic hotel amenities, but that was ok. There restaurant is a must try.
City center is less than 5 minutes walk, and so is the train and bus station.
Great quiet location as well. Want a feel for late 19th or early 20th century place to experience, this is the place to be.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very helpful staff and great location!
- Tan (10/5): Value for money accomodation - Friendly staff, great location, excelkent buffet breakfast, warm quiet room in historic building close to town center and bus/rail station.
- AldeS (10/5): - Very charismatic property. Beautiful old staircase to rooms and lovely courtyard.
Very easy going stay with no stress.
Staff very helpful in organizing shuttle from airport to property and back again. They contacted me beforehand, by email, to arrange this and it saved a lot of money and hassle - worked well.
Due to the historic nature of the property, it does not have ensuite so bathroom shared. This was not really a problem. Rooms were very warm and everything clean. Maid in every day to clean room.
Location was amazing - 5 minute walk to centre of town. Staff very helpful and friendly.
There is a restaurant as part of the Guesthouse. Would highly recommend the authentic food as part of the experience - staff very helpful at guiding you through the menu. We left a wallet with cash and cards in the restaurant and the restaurant staff tracked us down, by the name on the credit cards, and brought it up to the room.
If there was ensuite bathroom this Guesthouse would be much more expensive - so if you can see past that you are getting a bargain and a much better experience than a boring tower block type hotel that could be anywhere in the world. This felt like something different to most places that have stayed in and will remember it fondly. Would definitely go back to Ljubljana and would stay here again for sure.
- Janet (8/5): good place to stay - conveniently situated for travel links and sight seeing
- Kaitlin (10/5): Excellent! - Fantastic little guest house! The beds were comfortable, the rooms clean, the staff friendly, breakfast extensive and we had traditional Slovenian dinner in the restaurant one night - so good! If we're ever in Ljubljana again, this is where we'll stop.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Stari Tisler shone bright on my solo journey - Good location near station but only short walk to the old city area, nice breakfast, rooms are fine, everything works and was super clean. Restaurant served great traditional Slovenian food and the staff were all helpful and friendly. Would recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the B & B like experience- friendly, helpful staff- good breakfast, excellent local food restaurant- location convenient to Ljubljana attractions & bus/train station. As typical - car parking difficult
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not up to the standard of a 3-star hotel - The guesthouse is in a good location close to the center of the city, and the complimentary breakfast is also very good. But the room condition is just too poor and lack of basic supply for a 3 star hotel, with very simply furnitures and a small room. Not sure how this facility is rated as a 3-star hotel. A 1-star would probably be fair.
- Dan (8/5): - Great location walking distance to the old part of the city.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good location - within a walking distance from the center. Staff was very kind. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was very good as well.
- Lynette (4/5): Very over priced for what you get - Very disappointing. We booked a double room with queen size bed a year out from our trip and got a room with 2 single beds that could not be put together. Breakfast was a contrast hassle not just for us but all quest as the staff member on constantly blamed the guests for anything that went wrong which was often and yelled at all of us. The only positive was the meal in the restaurant.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room and property were very tidy, well presented. The bed was comfortable but very soft and thin pillows and duvet.
Breakfast was delightful with an ever-filled cold spread with plenty of sweet pastries. Great way to start the day.
Extausionate late check-in fees which were hidden when booking a non-refundable room, making it double the price. Tried to discuss with management about making this more well-known prior to booking but they became overly defensive and wouldn't accept verbal feedback. A very ordinary way to end the stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nicely done - The staff gave a good overview of the city and were very accommodating about allowing slightly early breakfast arrivals (I needed to leave early). Dinner was good, too. Too bad it was a short stay.
- David (10/5): Great air con - Great air con! Close to the train station. Easy to walk to the area with all the shops and bars. Nice buffet breakfast. Room was comfortable. Wasn't too expensive either.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was good, but didn’t have an elevator which made it so hard to get our luggage to the second floor. Very friendly staff!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very convenient to bus and train station but would have preferred an ensuite bathroom.
- Peter (8/5): - An interesting, historical hotel which was good value for money. Access to upper stories via a spiral staircase a little difficult for large suitcases. Scrupulously clean, Friendly staff. Close to train and bus station.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - OK hotel, nice room but not very nice with shared toilets and shower.
- MGSG (8/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. Walking distance from beautiful sites and bars. Don’t really like the shared bathroom but it was clean and didn’t really see anyone using the toilets or bathroom during our stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I wanted to love this place, but it was definitely a mixed bag. I thought breakfast was really good and the free WiFi was really fast. The staff was very nice and generally tried to be helpful. The location is fantastic. I arrived before 9p, so had a very smooth check in. However, there was a urine smell in the bathroom. The pillows were remarkably poor quality. The air conditioner didn’t seem to work (in their defense, I never asked for help on this). Finally, a giant cockroach crawled across the wall, and I squashed it with my shoe. As I am pretty bothered by cockroaches, I left it there, hoping it would be cleaned up. It wasn’t, even after I asked. So, if the negatives I’ve listed here wouldn’t bother you, it’s a great place to stay.
- Terrie (10/5): It wasn’t very far to the old historical part of t - It wasn’t very far to the old historical part of town. Fantastic food in the restaurant. The breakfast was OK. The beds were pretty comfortable but very small bathroom. Wonderful staff
- Catherine (8/5): Special - Full of character. A different hotel from the large bland type one finds in every city.
- Lena (8/5): Fun in lubiana - Comfortable hotel good location.
- Amikam (8/5): - Betty gave us an excellent service!
- Kathryn (10/5): - The location was fabulous - both for access to the Old Town and canal for entertainment, and also for our bus the following day.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Fantastic location, helpful staff, good breakfast, nice room!
- KIT WA (8/5): - The guest house is quiet. Good breakfast and wifi. Strong and hot water. The price of our room is Eur70+. It is too expensive.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very convenient location between the bus/train stations and the Old Town. Just about 5 minutes walk from either one. Wifi worked great. Friendly staff at check-in and check-out. Good selection for the included breakfast. Has a restaurant that serves traditional food downstairs, but I didn't get a chance to eat there unfortunately. Overall a great stay for my 3 nights and would be happy to stay here again for the convenience while exploring in and around Ljubljana.
- Shui Man (8/5): - The light in the bathroom is out and need replacement. Otherwise everything is fine.
- Penn (4/5): - We warned the front desk that we would arrive just before the 9:00 PM deadline, and in fact we arrived with several minutes to spare. The place was locked up tight and no one answered our knocks. If it hadn't been for a local who telephoned on our behalf, we would have spent the night in our car. When the owner (?) arrived, she claimed the desk had been open. Don't you hate it when someone lies to you and you both know it's a lie? You get what you pay for, and in our case it included the nastiest and oldest shag-carpet remnants in Europe. You share a bathroom with many others of both sexes for these old-style sleeping quarters. "Parking is available" is a vast overstatement. You're lucky to find a spot as you compete with local retail customers and apartments, and the concierge's best recommendation is to leave the car at the rail station, some three blocks away. The concierge's recommendation for a laundromat was useless - the laundry around the corner sends it out and we learned there is no way to get same-day service, even if you're there first thing in the morning.
- Tim (10/5): - Clean, efficient, traditional guesthouse in an Austro/Hungarian style.
- Robin (8/5): - Excellent location for guests arriving by rail or coach, including from the airport.
- Ginny (8/5): - Nice rooms- close to bus station. Very goid breakfast
- Margaret (2/5): Do not book if you have a late flight arrival - Failed to be able to check in as reception not open and did not answer the number displayed. Had to get a room at another hotel extra cost to us. Not aware that reception closed at 9pm flight did not arrive until 10 30 pm. Disgusting and very disappointed where do you go in a strange town at 11 30 pm
- Ruth (8/5): Lovely staff - Even before we set off to Slovenia the staff were very helpful. They recommended the best and cheapest way to transfer from the airport to the guest house and then made the booking for us. The breakfast was buffet style and there was always plenty there. The guest house was only a short walk to the bus and train station and the main attractions were all in walking distance.
The staff were lovely and eager to help from the time we arrived at the accommodation.
- Lindsay (10/5): Amazing location - The location was amazing! We have been to Ljubljana a few times and this place has been one of our favourites. The room was clean, bed was comfortable and the breakfast was a great way to start the day. I would highly recommend staying here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Stari Tisler - Friendly staff on the reception / check-in desk who escorted us to our room and told us a little about the history of the old building. We booked a double room but were given a family double room so we had plenty space.
The wi-fi on our floor wouldn't connect but we managed to log onto another connection somewhere else in the hotel so all was good in the end.
The room itself was quite basic although comfortable enough but as we slept with the windows open we could hear a little noise from the street, the hotel itself was pretty quiet.
The breakfast was your average continental style with bread, cooked meats, cheese, fruit, cereal and traditional Slovenian cake but hey why not I was on holiday after all.
Great location within 5 minutes walk of the Old Town, restaurants and bars.
- Claire (10/5): Safe, comfortable and friendly stay - Hotel was in a really good location and close to anything, meaning within 5 min walk. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The room was great and air conditioned. The area is safe and card keys are needed to get through several doors prior to the room.
- Deborah (8/5): - Easy 2 block walk from bus station. Great restaurant with authentic Slovenian fare. Staff spoke excellent English and most helpful giving sightseeing tips and directions. Our room had its own private bath. Would stay here again in a return trip to Ljubljana.
- Cameron (10/5): - The location was great. Very clean and lovely staff. The food was delicious and I would go back again.
- Simon (10/5): Seeing Stars! - It was very easy to find the guesthouse, coming from the bus station, which was only a 2 minute walk. We were welcomed by friendly staff and quickly shown to our room. Unfortunately we had twin beds rather than a double, but other than that the room was very well equipped and spacious. We had lots of hot water, great a/c for the very hot days in Ljubljana, many English channels on the TV and very comfortable beds. Breakfast was plentiful and filling although only the usual bread, meat and cheese, cereal and fruit. We did not eat in for dinner, but the menu looked very good and the prices seemed reasonable compared to elsewhere in the town. The location is great. It was an easy walk to the main attractions, and back to the bus station for our trip to Lake Bled, which is certainly a beautiful place. It was nice to stay in an old building, with lots of history and novelty. Thank you for your hospitality, Stari Tisler.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Guesthouse close to Railway Station - This guesthouse is very close from the railway station and the bus station. Thus, it has a high mobility to move around Ljubljana.
- Rudolf (8/5): Great location - Excellent location , a 5 minutes walk from the bus/train station which is what I was looking for. There are restaurants and cafes as well as the main attractions in less than a 10 minutes walk distance. The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast had a fair selection of options . There is no lift so you will need to hawl you luggage up one flight of stairs. The room was large but the bathroom was small . The bed was not that comfortable.
- Gerald (10/5): Great value, helpful staff nice guesthouse - Very nice and comfortable guest house. Everything you would want in a local guest house. Front desk personnel w very nice and comfortable guest house. Everything you would want in a local guest house. Front desk personnel We’re very helpful. And the value was terrific.
- Chip Hong (4/5): Room type different from booking - We reserved for a room with queen size bed very early but was given a double-bed room on our arrival. On query, the host simply answered that there was no more room and all rooms were booked without apology.
- Gavin (8/5): Pleasant small hotel option - Nice building kept in good condition. AC in the rooms, buffet continental breakfast (from 8am). Could do with soap in the shared WCs and shampoo for the showers. Very handy for the railway/ bus station esp if you have an early start but allow an extra couple of minutes for light controlled crossing of a busy road.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good - We arrived late (close to midnight) and the gentleman was there to check us in right away, which I really appreciated. Our room was tidy and clean but a bit stuffy, even with the window open. Breakfast was alright. The location can't get any better. Walking distance to everything. Overall it was a good experience.
- Anne (10/5): Enjoyable stay! - Excellent stay. Betty was a great host and accommodated our early check in requirements to the best of her ability, which was really appreciated. Breakfast was nice, rooms were clean and bed was very comfortable. Great location as well, all in all a pretty prefect stay.
- Matthew (8/5): Practical place to stay in Ljubljana - Fabulous for the price. Clean quiet and comfortable. Close to train station and the city
- Maria (8/5): - bed less than luxurious but otherwise amazing
- Hiro (8/5): Good hotel close to bus terminal/railway station - Less than 5-minute walk to the bus terminal, even with heavy luggage. Yet, about 10-minute walk to Triple Bridge. Walkable to major touristic points. Satisfactorily renovated for modern comfort. The guesthouse reception is not open all the time, yet help is easily obtained through kitchen staffs of the restaurant, etc.
- Serene (8/5): Overall good value and friendly staff - It was a great value place. WiFi was good they had some cable TV channel. Location was 6 minute walk to preseren square and 5minutes to the bus station which was handy as we caught to flixbus to Ljubljana. Bathroom modern, room good size with air conditioning, the only problem I had were that the pillows were of cheap quality so quite uncomfortable but other than that it was great. They also serve breakfast. I read somewhere that there was self serve laundry in this place but this was not the case. The nearest laundromat is about 17minutes walk.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent hotel, great location - We were warmly welcomed, the room was just fine, breakfast was fantastic and the location was excellent.
- Alasdair (10/5): Nice, excellent value stay in Ljubljana - It's a nice, slightly quirky hotel. However, it was very clean and comfortable and very well located for the centre of the city and the train/bus stations. Nice breakfast and friendly staff.
- Margaret (8/5): - I chose to stay at Stari Tisler because is was very reasonably priced and also an easy walk from the train station. My room was clean and cosy and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was good and the restaurant looked inviting but I didn't eat there. It was easy to find my way to walk to the old town. I also took the train to Divaca and a pleasant walk took me from the station to Skocjan Caves. I went on the 1pm tour of the incredible caves, they are certainly a wonderful place to visit. I am a single, older traveller on a budget and Stari Tisler suited me well.
- Dominic (10/5): Tislar was Great.. - Tislar was the perfect spot to stay.
- Eagle (6/5): O.K. Location - The hotel had no elevator and it also hosted a very small shower. The rest room was also found out to be very small .
- Aaron (4/5): Poor Customer Service, I'd stay away - Let me start by saying that I've traveled to over 30 countries and have never experienced such poor customer service anywhere. I booked this guesthouse and sent them a message telling them upon booking that I'd be arriving late in the night. They sent me a message back saying it'd be 40 Euro to arrive after 9 PM (an absurd amount if you ask me and I would have never booked this hotel had I known that prior to my booking). I arrived to the Guesthouse after 9 PM and no one was there to give me keys, it was all locked up tight. I tried calling, knocking and emailing once there but after 30 minutes of trying to figure out how to get in, I decided I was going to have to try and book another hotel. Luckily I was able to find one, but Guesthouse Stari Tisler showed no remorse and was a total pain to deal with. I'll admit that I didn't read all the very fine print on this hotel when booking but I did email the hotel letting them know I'd be arriving late right after booking. I realize I could have sent multiple emails confirming my late booking, but I would have hoped they would have called me at the least to confirm my check-in time or made it possible to get my keys. I asked if they'd refund me (as I didn't stay at their guesthouse) and they offered no sort of refund. I also followed up with Hotels.Com and they didn't offer any sort of refund either. I'm not one to leave poor reviews but hopefully this review helps someone else from making the same mistake I did!
- Stephen (8/5): A Good Basic Hotel - Its a small hotel in a historic building, about 200 meters from the train station. Friendly service. The room was clean, but not well furnished. The mattress was not so comfortable. A decent breakfast and a restaurant that serves good hearty Slovenian meals.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good stay - A good stay and a good breakfast
- david (8/5): - Great staff and breakfast. Room felt a bit like a dormitory. Hallway was noisy.
- Art (10/5): Enjoyed my stay at Guesthouse Stari Tisler - When I checked in the very nice lady told me that the Eurobasketball finals were tonight between Slovenia and Serbia and they have a giant screen in the city square with beer tents and lots of restaurants along the river. Really beautiful setting and fun watching the game with the locals. Slovenia won and the fans were crazy.
The hotel was close to the station with a short walk to the center with a good variety of cafes and restaurants. Friendly staff, enjoyable stay
