Guest Reviews

- amelie (9/5): - Caravan was as pictured. The hosts were very friendly and available if needed. Ver quiet area. The spa wasn’t working. We were told the day of our arrival. Not a big deal but we would’ve love using it. Wifi wasn’t working as too far from the router (not surprising tho, not a big issue for us).
Listed amenities not as described – additional charges and poor attitude
When booking, the property clearly listed “fireplace” and “washing machine” as amenities. However, on the day of check-in, I encountered the following issues:
1. Fireplace not usable: The host said it can only be used from the end of May (winter season). This time restriction was not mentioned anywhere in the listing. I have stayed at other properties where the fireplace was usable without such restrictions – this is clearly inconsistent with the description.
2. Washing machine restricted and extra fee demanded: I requested to use the washing machine before 6 PM. The host refused, saying it was “too late”. When I challenged that, they then said I would have to pay NZD 5 to use it. No time restrictions or additional fees for the washing machine were disclosed on the platform.
I find the host’s practices unprofessional and lack transparency. I hope the platform will strengthen its oversight, and I would advise future guests to confirm these “hidden rules” before booking.
- Phyllistina (10/5): **BEACHSIDE BLISS IN BARRYTOWN ** - My elderly mum and I had the most wonderful stay in Barrytown in the beautiful surroundings near Punakaiki. Karen and Nigel are such lovely, welcoming hosts who have created a truly beautiful beachside retreat. The cabin we stayed in (Koru) had everything we needed and it's located so close to the sea, the views and scenery are absolutely breathtaking. I had the most amazing sleep in an incredibly comfortable bed, and the shower was fantastic with great pressure! The overall ambiance and peacefulness made it a highlight of our trip. We couldn't have asked for a better experience—highly recommended and I will definitely be back again to stay.. Thanks again guys, you're AMAZING hosts! 🌞 🌴 🌊 🏖️ 🐚 ✨

- Niederberger (3/5): Würde ich nicht mehr Buchen - Camping Toilette mit Wasserflasche zum Spülen
- John (4/5): Good overall accommodation let down by misrepresentation and tightfistedness by owners. - General location was good in a discrete rural setting Incorrectly described as beachfront when it was an 11 minute walk. Hot tub advertised but broken. Advertised as having a mobile home when it is a caravan. Overall misrepresentation. Worst of all it was cash only unlike any other Booking.com property. Meaning we had to do a 50 mile round trip back to Greymouth to get cash.
- Valerie (6/5): - The hosts are friendly and helpful. Nice view of the mountain. Wifi was not working well at the barn unit. Toilet was more camping style. Sheets and towels were a bit stiff.
- Lorenza (7/5): -
- Debbie (10/5): Great hosts at a fantastic location and we were left wanting for nothing. Thanks Nigel and Karen - Secluded location and access to the beach Nothing
- Trevor WHAM (9/5): - A true Kiwi bach on the amazing West Coast. Comfortable, everything we need for a day or three away from our everyday lives. Near to some stunning walks and rugged beaches. We'll be back! The sandflies... but we should have brought insect repellent. The West Coast is their home patch after all!
- Ryan (10/5): Great cozy spot. Loved it. - Nice cozy spot close to the ocean. Would recommend to others Nothing
- Karen (10/5): - This beautiful property presents better than the current photos. It is lovely and peaceful. You are a short walk to a beach and a short drive to excellent walks. Karen is welcoming and has local insight on places to see. We appreciated the little extras left for us. Thank you.
- Bella (7/5): The cabin is overpriced for the facilities provided. - It was great that the host was able to provide a dinner meal (with notice) as I was on the road the entire day. The pressure in the shower was good. It came across that the decor/supplies provided in the cabin were old leftover/worn items thrown in. The facecloth provided had bleach stains throughout it and the towel was scratchy and well used/old. The double bed also had a dip/roll in it so was definitely an old bed. I was also surprised that the toilet was a port-a-potty. There was only one light in the main room, and the light switch wasn't near the bed. However, the room within the home that I viewed looked very different (lovely decor) plus an ensuite with full bathroom facilities.
- Paul (9/5): -
- Quentin (9/5): Très bien - Le confort et l accueil rien
- Sioban (9/5): - Beautiful location for evening beach walk. Private space. Enjoyed our breakfast.
- Phil Peacocke (8/5): - Super helpful and friendly host. Big roomy cabin in a nice quiet setting. Easy 5 minute walk to a big West Coast sandy beach. Parking right by cabin. Great facilities available for clothes washing.
Exceeded expectations. We were quite happy, so thats all There is to say7
- Georg (7/5): a good stay - The location of the accommodation was very good for our route. The room was very spacious and well-equipped. It was possible to do laundry. Breakfast was prepared in the kitchen/refrigerator; we made it ourselves in the morning. The host was rather curt. The cleanliness in detail could be better.
- Joseph (10/5): Great! -
- Rob (7/5): -
- Theera (8/5): -
- Liz (9/5): Great stopover point en route along west coast - Lovely remote location with very kind hosts providing a tasty home cooked meal on request. Comfortable clean, modern, spacious home stay accommodation.
- Lucy (5/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): - The Bungalow was spacious and well equipped. A 10 minute walk to a secluded beach and convenient for visiting Pancake rocks which is a short drive away and well worth a visit.
- Anna (8/5): -
- Timon Yann (10/5): -
- Carolyn (9/5): - The owners Karen and Nigel were very friendly and welcoming (as was Shadow their gorgeous puppy). Lovely location near the beach.
- corry (5/5): -
Rien
- Charlotte (10/5): Excellent stay in lovely cabin - Location right next to the beach. Lovely host with great communication.
Excellent facilities and space. Would highly recommend Nothing
- ALAN (5/5): -
- Hadas (10/5): - The cabin was very big for a couple. Easily fits a family. Well equipped kitchen. Very quiet with a cool isolated beach 10 minutes walk from the place. Wi-Fi was an issue
- Ruud (8/5): We used the place as a one night stay, so we did only walked to the beach in the evening. - We were in the home itself and we had a good click with Nigel and Karen so we had some good conversation’s at a good breakfast. Nothing (the little dog did not bother us). The bad reviews that we read online seemed strange to us after our stay so that must have been a hoax or something. So don’t let that influence you too much.
- Svetlana (7/5): -
- Rene (10/5): Very nice and cozy place, very friendly hosts. - Very nice private place. We rented a cabin and a camper. Very nice and helpful couple that live on the premises. Good facilities. Thanks for the stay.
- Danielle (10/5): - Spacious cabin with everything you need: Comfortable bed & shower, breakfast included, well-equipped kitchen. We loved the area near the Pancake rocks (18min by car) and the beach (5min by foot). The hot tub was the cherry on the cake. Our host Karen was really friendly and helpful, recommended to stay here!
- Christina (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): Nigel is the man ! AWESOME stay. Thanks so much again! - Very easy access, great location, super cozy and amazing hosts ! That we only stayed one night since lacked time, would’ve stayed even longer without hesitation!
- Brian (6/5): Good value - The hosts were delightful and they went the extra mile to handle a late night request.
- Stuart (6/5): -
- Boom MacDonald (9/5): -
- Guest (9/5): -
- Chanel (10/5): Wish we stayed here longer such a beautiful environment to be in would definitely recommend staying at least 2 days if y - Loved the location, the space, the amenities everything was amazing!! Loved the sound of the ocean we seemed to be the only ones there and had the whole hot tub to ourselves! If you’re going make sure you get some food at the supermarket and make yourself(yourselves) a lovely home cooked meal. I didn’t like that we didn’t stay longer ☺️
- Shona (8/5): -
- Sandra (10/5): -
- Jan (5/5): -
- Gus (10/5): -
- Nicole (9/5): Superb - The setting was stunning. Awesome having a woodburning stove. The hot tub was not in service though we had just received an email telling us the hours we could use it.
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (9/5): Amazing value for money - Best value for money you'll find! great location and a very cool set up. The people there are great for any advice, the place was very generous with supplies, you respect the place you'll get respect in return If you click bringing a dog make sure it's a lap dog they don't accept bigger dogs and there was no hot running water but we didn't really care about that, you can't complain for the price and you could jump into the hot tub after
- Deborah (7/5): Good for a night - A warm welcome, nice continental breakfast. On a lovely property. Nice and close to the pancake rocks. 40min drive from Greymouth. Not been informed beforehand about toilet not working, no internet, though did advertise free WiFi available in all area's, but not the case, as weather not good was hoping to watch a movie, couldn't, a wellness area, didn't see one.
- Qwin (10/5): Incredible place, even better hosts - Nigel and Karen were the best hosts we could have asked for. Meeting them has been a highlight of our entire trip. Will definitely be going back if I'm in the area.
- Rawlins (4/5): Disappointing - Was a quick and easy booking. Convenient on our route with very friendly owners. The bed was the worst we have ever slept in.
Felt like a boat not just sloaping like a hammock but also to the middle. They would get a lot better reviews if they spent a bit and bought on a decent mattress.
The Portaloo was also not great...very stinky.
- Harmony (10/5): Lovely restful break and happy memories! - Beautiful quiet location, perfect for rest and relaxation, with easy access to gentle beach. All the outdoor setting and indoor decor is very tastefully done to bring a whole atmosphere of peace. Super friendly and helpful hosts. Thank you Nigel and Karen!
- Alexia (10/5): Exceptional - Hosts were so lovely! Highly recommend
- Kieran (10/5): Exceptional -
- Liz (8/5): Excellent place to relax and enjoy. - Great stay thanks to Nigel and Karen. Welcomed on arrival and given good suggestions on activities to do in the area. Room was larger than expected, comfortable bed, kitchen well equipped, great shower and hot tub was superb. Nothing, was what we expected and perfect for our stay.
- Susan (7/5): Cozy and comfortable - Cozy and comfortable stay Lovely garden surrounds....
- Denise (7/5): Good -
- Nicola (9/5): Superb -
- Lalit (7/5): Good - ok like
- Kaylene (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely wonderful hosts so welcoming and friendly couldnt do enough to make our stay one to remember in the best way. Perfect room and ensuite. Stunning views from the house.
Thankyou Nigel & Karen and I will read my email next time 😉😃 Nothing not to like.
- Adam (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Suzanne (6/5): Pleasant -
- Maraike (8/5): Enjoyed staying there for a night. Beautiful beach with beautiful sun set! - The location is great! Close to the beach and no one else around.
Nice little cabin too. Nothing not to like really
- Trish (8/5): Very good -
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rosalie (8/5): Very good -
- Sherry (10/5): Exceptional - Nigel was an excellent host. There is a nice quiet beach a short walk away to watch a beautiful sunset. Clear night showed us hints of the Milky Way.
- Michele (7/5): Booking.com does not make it obvious exactly which unit you are getting as there is very little shown of the “caravan” r - The property is lovely.
- Sophia (8/5): Very good -
- Dinusha (7/5): Good -
- Annie (1/5): Bad - Nothing It was a classic bait and switch. We were led to believe that we would be in a cabin, but they put us in an old pop-top caravan.
- Philip (8/5): Very good -
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional - Greg and Shelly are excellent hosts! Love the area as well!
- Sally (9/5): Superb - Greg and Shelley helped us feel at home and comfortable. It's a great location and there is a nice walk to the sea.
- Zhang (2/5): Very poor -
- Charles (7/5): Good - Good value. Basic accommodation in a caravan. Nice hot tub
- Karen (8/5): Very good - Hosts were lovely (they were looking after the place while owners were away).
Comfy bed, kitchen was adequate. Insect screens installed which was appreciated.
Nice place. Chemical toilet. Was stated in room description but smelled more than we expected. Haven't had one before so maybe this is normal.
Living and bathroom divided by wall but would be better if this went all the way to the ceiling.
Whole space gets lit up when turning bathroom light on at night.
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Xinyu (10/5): Exceptional - This was my first time seeing an RV-style toilet, we had a brand-new experience. The room was well-equipped, quiet, and clean. The scenery was stunning, with beautiful mountain views.
I have a small suggestion—if the platform under the toilet could be widened a bit, it would provide more space for foot placement. However, this does not affect the room's overall perfection. Additionally, the breakfast was very generous!
I look forward to my next trip, and I will definitely choose this place again. When checking in, I learned that the accommodation was being taken care of by a friend of the owner, and we felt warmly welcomed. The instructions for all the room facilities were very detailed.
Thank you again for the wonderful hospitality!
- Joanna (7/5): Good - We stayed in the pop-top caravan. It is what it is! Comfortable for a short stay. Great having access to the hot tub. Close to the road so a bit of road noise. We stayed during warm, dry weather. Might be a bit damp in the pop-top during West Coast rain.
- Paul (10/5): An excellent overnight stay. - The hosts were outstanding. Friendly efficient and the best.
These hosts were filling in for the owners at our visit. No complaints.
- Michael (9/5): Great location for going to Punakaiki in classic rustic New Zealand, well appointed for the setting! - Friendly, helpful staff; comfortable beds; well stocked kitchen; access to beach was fun !
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harrison (10/5): Really refreshing, and the hosts were amazing. -
- Fiona (10/5): Great stay, homecooked meal for a fee was beautiful. Nice breakfast. Lovely hosts. - Beautiful views, comfortable bed, great hosts.
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Donna (1/5): DO Not Recommend the Caravan. - The property was well manicured. Beautiful view of the ocean. The hosts, who were housesitting, were friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the caravan. We did not view the cabins so they may be nicer. We were very disappointed with the caravan and do not recommend it. The website did not state the age of the unit which is likely 1970 or 1980 vintage! There was duct tape on the pop up. Several windows were not useable. A person had to bend over to enter. The small fridge was located on the floor as well as the so called oven. Everything was extremely outdated and OLD! The note inside the camper indicated that they used ‘untreated rain water’. No mention as to whether we could risk using it or not. The camper was so old that we are guessing that the tanks have never been replaced or treated. The breakfast was a child size box of juice, UHT milk (not fresh milk), a cheap brand of yogurt, a couple slices of bread with barely enough peanut butter or jam to cover two pieces. The whole stay was a huge disappointment, especially for the money spent! Greg and Shelley did their best to clean it but I could see it near impossible to make something so old seem livable! The website was very misleading.
- Alison (5/5): Disappointment and mixed feelings. - The thought of soaking in the highly recommended hot tub only to find that it was luke-warm and the jets not working. So I guess that was more a disappointment than something we liked. The fact that when our booking was confirmed we recieved an email from booking.com requesting a review of our stay in Florence, Italy in 2014!! No further details at all about Koru Accomodation- the address or phone no. Consequently we spent about an hour trying to find it. We had just got as far as Punakaiki when we decided we would quit searching and just drive on home. However a chance meeting with a local resulted in being given specific directions and we were very thankful for their help.
- Stewart (4/5): a oncer. - Great location. It was a bit expensive given it was a caravan. There should also be access to a proper flush toilet and a separate shower.
