Guest Reviews
- Jackie (10/5): - A superbly styled room and the bed was so comfortable.
- Dani (10/5): - Amazing stay, room was beautiful and very cosy and well decorated. Staff were lovey and the breakfast was really nice.
- Wendy (10/5): - Absolutely amazing place to stay, can't rate it highly enough. Staff all extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming. Rooms spotlessly clean and well equipment with everything you need. Breakfast menu has got to be up there as one of the best i've seen. Lovely location and parking available
- Kristina (10/5): - A really comfortable room right next to the restaurant. Very clean and well made out
- Derek (10/5): One of the best places we have stayed in - This is our third visit
We are very impressed with the friendly attitude of all the staff especially the receptionist who checked us in and took our suitcase to our room
We were pleased to see.Finn again and appreciated his welcome
- David (10/5): - A great value stay, with friendly helpful staff. Would definitely recommend!
- Paul (10/5): Lovely hotel - I stay at this hotel very often, it is very warm and welcoming, the beds are great as is the bedding, the people are lovely and the breakfast is really good. Food is also good but pricey
- Jean (8/5): Just the night - We booked in and the woman who checked us in and bar staff were so friendly and welcoming. Room was good though a shower over a bath is difficult for my husband so will investigate that further on out next stay. All good, lunch was lovely and found Wendover to be a lovely town.
We booked a table for our evening meal and was a wee bit disappointed. The food could have been warmer. I had burger and hubby had rolled belly pork. The pork was a bit tuff... and it was a cheap meal. However, breakfast was best weve had in a very long time. Blackpudding was delicious, spicey with no big white fatty bits. Eggs perfectly good...yummy.
I would recommend the hotel and we will definately be back..with friends in Nov i am hoping!!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Could be delightful - Stay was fine, a few small improvements would make a big difference. Evening meal like warm on two nights that meant I didn’t bother eating in the 3rd night. Coffee machine in the room didn’t work properly and mould on drinking water bottle wasn’t over encouraging. Nice location, lovely village, different food menu, attention to detail needed
- Bobby (4/5): - Owing to my wife with Mobilty issues, and hotel being a listed building ,was unsuitable
- Terry (6/5): Not as good as it used to be - This has been a staple of our visits to the area for many years so we were disappointed with how things have changed in such a short period.
On arrival we were told that the water would be off the following morning at 8am for planned plumbing works. No apology, no pre warning. In addition, the staff proved quite unfriendly - not just with us - with everyone who is not a regular. Not something we expected nor should expect of a hotel. Very disappointing over all and not an enjoyable experience.
- Wayne B (8/5): - The room, staff, food, and location were all great. Everything was great… only thing I missed was AC on the hottest days. And ad clearly doesn’t promise AC, so no fault of theirs. Just be prepared to sweat if the outside temperature stays warm overnight.
- Darren (10/5): - Really nice place to stay. great bar with lovely food
- David (8/5): Perfect for overnight stay. - Over night stay. Room lighting dim. Could be brighter. Excellent breakfast.
- Graham (10/5): - Excellent hotel. Great breakfast and evening meal
- Ruth (8/5): - Good place for stop over, staff attentive, food however I feel was overpriced , had a hummus starter to share very nice plenty of it with pitta bread for £12, thought that was good value..
My main dish was 2 large pieces of chicken and potatoes £23 very tasty but no vegetables or anything else with it, would rather have less meat and option for vegetables.
I know they source locally which I like and appreciate this costs more..
The room was more than adequate for one night , good choice of different teas and coffees.
Very hot night , fan provided, thank goodness as struggled to get any windows opened.
Blinds in windows gave good black out.
Bed very comfy.
Bathroom very clean, shower had 2 different types of heads, worked really well.
There was lots of different toiletries provided.
Room was across from bar so lots of noise until bar closed, but staff member did make us aware when showing us to our room and because it was a warm evening, everyone sat outside..
Would we come again , possibly to break our journey up but would ask for a quieter room and unless there food prices dropped , would go somewhere else for evening meal..
- Verified traveler (10/5): Can't wait to return! - After 5 weeks of travel, this gem was a memorable last night - one of our nicest stays. A charming old hotel, its many character features were seamlessly integrated into a very enjoyable stay. The bed was comfortable and large, the in-room amenities better than most, and the included breakfast went well beyond expectations. Being an older building there are stairs to the upper levels and no AC; some may also find the road-frontage rooms noisy with the windows open. For us these were minor, understandable considerations and wouldn't for a minute deter us from returning.
- Olivia (10/5): - This was a great place to stay. I didn’t manage to enjoy the breakfast (it smelt lovely) as I was up early for work. The staff were very helpful and very friendly. My only tiny comment would be that the towels were a little thin and stiff, but that didn’t impact my stay! My room was on the front and they’ve managed to make sure
- Annabelle (10/5): - Great stay, breakfast was excellent, the room comfortable and the staff friendly
- Andrew (10/5): - 10/10. No obvious faults noticed to report. Very nice indeed. Parking was easy too. Wendover is a great location for the walking / rambling types too. Great Hotel and restaurant!
- Simon (10/5): amazing - I have stayed at the Bell & Dragon on business a few times. It is always clean, well-kept, with fantastic food and staff. A must stay
- Paul (10/5): - Stay here lots, very comfortable rooms, but not in Aylesbury but in Wendover.
Food also good but expensive, Breakfast is excellent.
- Peter (10/5): - Best pub room I’ve ever stayed in. Really nicely done. Service was amazing. I’d go out of my way to come back here again.
- Fred (10/5): - Loved our stay at the Bel & Dragon. The staff were very friendly and the room was fantastic. There were so many lovely touches, from the great range of nice teas and coffees, to the free tipple in the room and a night cap if you wanted it. The room felt incredibly homely and was perfect for our stay.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough
- Tony (10/5): - A fantastic night staying and having dinner with friends. Room was lovely, cost a d very quiet.
Had a great dinner in the restaurant and the breakfast that was included has everything you can think to have for a great breakfast.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
- Christine (8/5): Lighting - The only adverse comment which was relayed to the hotel staff - the lighting in the room (No. 6) was generally very poor and it was quite impossible to read by the bedside lights
- JULIE (10/5): - Food and drinks were very expensive
- Linda (10/5): - This is a lovely central place to stay. Rooms are very comfortable, clean and worth the price.
We had the breakfast option included. We were told the night before that breakfast was 8:30-10:30 as Good Friday. All well, however all rooms must have been booked out as we went to breakfast at 9am & the buffet section was devoid of fresh fruit, yoghurt Jams & juices. Asked for more fruit but alas told there was no more. We made do with toast &poached eggs but Dutch tourist were not impressed. Don’t get me wrong, lovely place to stay but they need to improve so all guests are getting what the6 paid for.
- Simon (10/5): - Very easy to get to and park , lovely area to walk around . Breakfast was great and staff lovely and helpful.
The only thing I would say is we stayed in the room near the car park and the noise from people drinking outside was quite loud, also the tv signal wasn’t that great. But I would stay there again .
- Flemming (8/5): Nice stay - Really nice place.
Rooms and the restaurant are quite cold, but it's cozy and the kids bunk beds were amazing.
Food overpriced for what you get, but it was a friendly service
- Paul (10/5): I stay here a lot and it is always really nice - I stay here a lot and it is always really nice
- Hannah (8/5): - Love the look of the bed room though wifi wasnt the best in the room, bathroom was so chic, definitely got my moneys worth with that claw foot tub. Staff were so lovely especially after I came from seeing my partner off to basic training, felt very comforted. Will definitely stay again
- Paul (6/5): Didn't book this room. - Have stayed here many times, this time I had booked a classic room, but was put in the accessible room, which is normally an option when booking, I do not like this room, I have no need for an accessible room. The bathroom is a wet room and understandably pretty big, but the towel rail is not a heater and it was very cold, the room is large but doesn't feel cosy, lots of room for wheel chairs if you need it, so for an accessible room pretty good, but I don't need it, and other rooms are much more cosy. The hotel was full so no option but to take it. Shame as I deliberately did not book this room. will still stay here as long as it is one of the really cosy rooms elsewhere in the hotel.
- Paul (10/5): I love staying here - I Love staying here, a very nice hotel with nice staff and great breakfast.
- Jackie (10/5): - Really nice room, very good breakfast, onsite ev charger, very dog friendly, great location, near shops, restaurants, dog walks. Staff very helpful and friendly. Would recommend.
- Steve (10/5): - Lovely place to stay - excellent customer service
- James (10/5): - Good value for money
- Paul (10/5): Stay here every time - Stayed here many many times, breakfast is excellent, food expensive but very good.
- Marva (8/5): - Beautiful rooms, pub has a lovely vibe. Staff friendly and helpful. Good selection for breakfast. Juice, cereals, self service toast, pastries etc. Only negative was the cooked breakfast was a bit cold when it arrived.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Bel & Dragon , Wendover - Stayed for 60th back in Feb, loved it so much booked for N/Y. Food was excellent, staff very hard working and friendly. Room spotless with nice personal touches , bed so comfy. Definitely recommend 👍
- Tony (10/5): - The room we stayed in Lordlin was amazing and just what we expected . The attention to details within room was very thoughtful. Service within breakfast area was excellent and very personal
- Helen (10/5): Wonderful stay - Beautiful place, cosy, friendly and great service. I keep coming back!
- Maria (10/5): Cosy comfort - Lovely cosy inn. Great comfy room. Superb shower. Nice touch with the welcome tipple
- Helen (10/5): Highly recommend - This is my go-to stay when I'm in Aylesbury - it's head and shoulders above the rest IMHO, and I've tried a few!
Fiona and the staff are welcoming and helpful, there are lots of thoughtful touches in the rooms and the breakfast is superb.
*Highly recommend *
- Elaine (8/5): Very much worth a visit - Lovely pub with a lot of rooms, everything was catered for, room very cosy had everything, including fridge with fresh milk, radio, slow gin, biscuits, coffee bags etc. apart from a box of tissues!
- Paul (10/5): Very nice comfy hotel - Stay at this hotel very regularly, always 1st choice when I need to stay in teh area.
- David (8/5): - Just the job for my stop over whilst travelling for work. Great room and breakfast. Didn’t have much time to explore much else but all great.
- P J (8/5): - We had a pleasant stay here, rooms slightly tired, but still 8/10 with a decent bath / shower. Food was good, as were the drinks, if a bit pricey. Staff were all very friendly, if a bit scatty eg remembering orders etc.
- Scot (10/5): Charming Pub with great food, drink and location! - Stayed for a birthday treat for my wife forb1 night. Hotel is modern but hold the old world charm of a classic coaching inn and lovely town of Wendover. Great selection of beers and food was excellent (Steak Night) and breakfast lovely too! Great for business or pleasure!!
- Catherine (10/5): - This hotel is amazing, the staff are so welcoming and friendly, the rooms are beautiful, beds as really comfy and the power shower is amazing. The food is delicious although a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I will definitely be back
- Helen (6/5): Beautiful but COLD - Old building, large room, small radiator. I had to resort to the student trick of airing the bed with a hairdryer...
- Carol (10/5): Lovely stay - Really lovely stay. Lara was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The room was very comfortable and there were lots of lovely little extras that made it extra special.
- Danica (10/5): Beautiful pub with luxurious rooms. - Amazing historic pub in a beautiful village. The rooms were absolutely amazing, comfortable and with little luxury extras like chocolates and gin!
- June (8/5): Room review - If a very comfortable bed is important to your stay this one is by far the best we have experienced. The room size was fairly small for the two of us but very cosy.
- Paul (10/5): Lovely cosy hotel - I love this hotel and stay here every time I need to go to Aylesbury, which is a lot.
- Donna (10/5): - A lovely hotel, with old world charm, comfortable beds, lovely rooms, great restaurant and wonderful staff.
Loved our stay here.
- David (6/5): - Incredibly subdued lighting in room.
Friday evening had the corridor outside of room turned into kids' playground, plus loud music from below. This all stopped around 2200 fortunately.
Interesting cooked options on breakfast menu. Bread offer rather boring. Is waitress service with juice/fruit/muesli etc self service.
- Derek (10/5): - We had a lovely stay
We were very impressed with the Bramley toiletries
The staff were all lovely and welcoming
There was a beer fest on in the evening but it quietened down before we needed to sleep
The choces at breakfast were amazing
- Simon (10/5): - Beautiful old pub with unique rooms and lots of free extras. Breakfast was outstanding!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Such a lovely location and very friendly helpful team.
The rooms are comfortable with all the tea and coffee offerings you could ask for.
Lovely little touches such as the gin and the chocolates, with a small bottle of milk for your tea and coffee.
Food was lovely in the restaurant for evening and breakfast
- Fraser (8/5): - Great overnight, lovely breakfast
- Liam (8/5): - Beautiful characteristic period building. Rooms are finished to a high quality, and you receive nice gifts in your room, complimentary Sloe Gin, chocolates and pillow spray which is a nice touch! Coffee bags are supplied as opposed to instant, and there is also a coffee pod machine which every coffee drinker likes to see. Rooms are spacious too, with very high ceilings and original features. Staff are very helpful and welcoming, the front of house at breakfast is always so happy to see you in the morning which sets you up for a good day! Love this place, its an absolute gem, and Wendover high street is just as delightful too.
- Lynne (8/5): - We booked a superior room to it was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. We appreciated the little extras, the Sloe Gin in the room, small bottle of milk and water in the fridge. A lavender spray for the pillow.
The staff were friendly and helpful. We are in the restaurant and the food was excellent. There was no drinks list on the table and when the bill came a glass of wine was £12.50,!! Also a hefty service charge was unexpectedly added., and were charged for tap water. We felt they should have been upfront about the prices.
- Steve (8/5): - Lovely room with large walk in shower
Nice comfy bed and great selection of drinks (tea n Coffee) also a complimentary slo gin
Didn’t eat evening meal but the breakfast was very nice with a good selection
- Alicia (8/5): - Charming staff. Very polite and friendly.
- Scott (10/5): - Great
- R (10/5): - Definitely a must visit. Superb in every way. We stay in 100s of hotels every year and this one of the best.
- Lucy (10/5): - Beautiful rooms, everything finished to a high spec. Staff were excellent and quality of food would be hard to beat. Will definitely stay again and no hesitation in recommending.
- Sam (10/5): - Always a pleasure to stay at
- Sarah (10/5): Fantastic stay. - We had a fabulous stay at the Bel and Dragon. We couldn't fault anything. The service was great. Dinner outside was lovely. Breakfast in the morning was good. Would have liked to have stayed more than one night!
- Jim (10/5): - We only stayed for one night and didn't have the opportunity to try their evening menu since we were attending a black-tie event. However, judging by the quality of breakfast, I'm confident that the meals, if prepared to the same standard, would merit a return visit.
On arrival, the bustling restaurant clearly signalled its popularity. Despite being busy, the reception staff were warm and attentive, ensuring everything was perfect - a commendable quality also found in the dining room staff next day.
If you're seeking the silence of double-glazed windows in a stark, modern room, this hotel may not be for you. However, if you appreciate rooms decorated in harmony with their historical context but equipped with modern amenities like excellent showers and a very comfortable bed, then you've made a smart choice. Additionally, this establishment shuns the usual cheap sachets of coffee and long-life milk, opting instead for individual miniature bottles of fresh milk in your room's fridge and a pukka gen coffee machine, complete with a selection of coffee pods.
I know it’s the trend to find something to complain about, but I found none; even a 5:30 am fire alarm was reassuring in a way as it indicated that in the event of a real fire, the staff would ensure everyone's safety.
To conclude, this is a charming historical building managed by devoted staff, whose primary aim is to make your stay as pleasant as possible. If you find yourself in the area, this place is a definite gem.
- Paul (10/5): Wendover is not Ayelsbury, but is very nice - Stayed here numerous times, lovely hotel great breakfast and comfy rooms. Not much going on in Wendover on a Monday though.
- Ian (10/5): - This place is amazing value considering the location and building history
- Christine (10/5): Brief stay in area - Charming hotel/pub, believe was a coaching inn historically. Online check in and key collection plus readiness of the room at the check-in - all very good. Booked a superior room, King size comfy bed, good shower over bath and excellent Bramley toiletries. Showed screen did not stop water spraying on floor though. Large fluffy white towels and face cloths. Kettle and coffee maker, plus mini fridge and complimentary sloe gin - all nice touches. Breakfast buffet selection was good quality and choice of included hot items was comprehensive enough. All in all a really enjoyable stay, with attentive, helpful staff, would stay again.
- Christopher (8/5): - Lacking the personal touch!
- Graham (10/5): - Best overnight stay I have ever had.
I was made welcome.Lovely atmosphere.Superb breakfast.
I intend to visit again.
- Nicola (10/5): Fabulous Stay and Meal - Excellent stay, all staff encountered were friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Room was smaĺl but exceptionally clean and well appointed, with tea and a coffee machine, chocolates and slo-gin. Comfortable bed with lovely bedding.
- Paul (10/5): Love this hotel - Love this hotel, however they do have occasional issues with TV reception, otherwise great
- Lorna (10/5): Luxurious - We stayed here whilst walking The Ridgeway, so arrived late and tired and left early the following morning and didn't therefore have the time to enjoy all that the hotel had to offer. However, we did enjoy a luxurious en suite room, beautifully clean with a fridge and free gin and a sumptuous breakfast. We will be back to enjoy all this at leisure!
- Heather (10/5): - Great, whole family enjoyed!
- Boyd (10/5): Charming Coaching Inn with excellent rooms - A refurbished coaching inn. My room (16) was in the building across the yard. All very new, well-appointed and quiet. Homemade chocolates, fresh milk
Breakfast was exceptional - didn't eat in the evening but the meals looked good.
Free parking.
- jim (6/5): - Hotel pleasant atmosphere, evening staff very helpful. Room good but a little cramped and noisy early morning from road traffic.
Food very disappointing menu promised a lot and over elaborate for evening meal. Breakfast very poor,,buffet table not at all stocked and replenished, at 9.05 a 30minute wait for a full english, which was ok, but a very sad inedible avocado concoction -- on complaint a replacement was offered but no thank you! Bad dining experience.
- Paul (10/5): Stay here many times and keep coming back - Had an accessible room, although didn't need it, still comfortable. Breakfast is top.
- James (10/5): - After a long day’s walk, a friendly welcome. Facilities newly renovated. Liked the sloe gin and radio!
- Sam (10/5): - Nice room, good food and friendly staff
- Elizabeth (10/5): Warm & cosy - everything you need - We had a lovely night at the Bel & Dragon - we greatly appreciated the personal touches to our room & the complimentary beverages. The staff were welcoming & helpful. The room had everything we needed for our stay. The shower was excellent & the toiletries provided were luxurious. Breakfast was tasty & filling, with limited (but good quality) gluten free options available.
- Rebecca (8/5): Amazing except one thing - Absolutely LOVED the room. It was so comfy, lovely selection of tea and coffee and great TV. Only thing that let it down was that the shower tray was really dirty and it made me uncomfortable stepping in there for my shower
- Dean (10/5): - Room was beautiful. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was delicious
- steven (10/5): - A fantastic stay at this hotel ,perfect place if your doing the Country to Capital ultra
- Jonathan (10/5): - Nice accommodation smartly renovated and great pub/ dining with friendly staff to top it off. Food was top notch
- Janet (10/5): - A great welcome, friendly & great service. Within walking distance of family so good for an overnight stay or a few days. Would highly recommend, we'll be going there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice room and toiletries. Amazing shower with bath. Sloe gin only enough for one person.
- Peter (10/5): - Never stay anywhere other than Bel and Dragon hotels when in the south
Cannot fault anything
Well done
- Merrin (8/5): - Great stay right in town so you could walk to everything.Shops market dining walks.Would recommend staying here.
- Graham (8/5): Village Centre Hotel - A well run hotel based on an old coaching house in the centre of the village. Staff are very friendly and the management are very helpful.
- Peter (10/5): - Whenever I can and am working in the south, I always book a Bel and the Dragon hotel as the std of room, amenities, food and service are excellent.
This time I took my wife, and she was as impressed as me. The small touches, such a high end coffee, tea and chocolates in the room, plus the honesty gin or whisky bottle in the hall way or room also make this a worthwhile stay.
- Sophie (10/5): Gorgeous - Beautiful room in a lovely pub!
- Jan (10/5): - We spent 6 nights at Bel & the Dragon Wendover. Staff were very friendly and helpful, restaurant was very good - varied menu for breakfast & dinner and the kitchen reliable. Would happily stay there again and would recommend.
- Penny (10/5): - Our stay was really good but, the only thing I would comment on was this. We couldn't get the coffee machine to work . My husband reported it and was told someone would be up to sort it . No one came so we had to buy coffee and I felt I'd paid enough without the extra.
Not important but annoying
- Robert (10/5): A little gem - Our brief stay was such a pleasant experience. Extra touches, lovely staff and great food.
