Guest Reviews
- Anthony (8/5): - True to boarding school character. On-site restaurant basic but adequate. Remote location.
- Bethany (10/5): - The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. The rooms were clean and quiet. The beds were comfortable, and the food was delicious.
- Ronald (10/5): - Food and bed were good.
- Sara (10/5): - Small shower with slow draining water. Had a great breakfast with variety options. Blinds are blackout but didn’t fully keep the lights out so recommend an eye mask.
- Christopher (10/5): - Hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel.
- J (10/5): - Beautiful area
- Roslyn (4/5): - The hotel is a summer hotel, and looks like it is used for dormitory purposes. The rooms are very basic, but are serviceable.
We found the beds quite uncomfortable, with extremely thin pillows. The curtains did not block out the light of the long daylight hours, so the room was quite bright when trying to sleep.
There was a frequent banging sound that vibrated through the building. We think it was the main door, which was banging shut, as people entered and left the building. It made getting enough sleep quite challenging, as the noise and vibrations were occurring until quite late, and started again fairly early in the morning.
The breakfast was good, with some hot options, as well as the usual continental breakfast offerings.
The staff were very helpful and pleasant.
- Aimee (10/5): - School during the winter, hotel
During summers. Friendly staff, good breakfast, minimalist room but comfortable.
- julianne (10/5): - Simple clean rooms with private baths only ~20-30 mins to Myvatn sites or Husavik (in other direction). The staff were friendly and helpful providing good suggestions for area hikes. The buffet breakfast was hearty with great variety - plus it was included in the price.
- Zainab (10/5): - I enjoyed our stay at Hotel Laugar!
- David (8/5): - Little cafe down the road had a really good food and the breakfast at the hotel was also good.
- dana (8/5): Quick stay - We did a quick turn around. Got in late and left early. Was a nice breakfast. Very accommodating staff.
- Belinda (8/5): Comfortable room - Comfortable room
- Kiyoe (10/5): - Nice and clean property!
Súper friendly staff
Delicious breakfast
- Donghua (10/5): - Nice location. Great breakfast. Everything worked well for us.
- Fu (10/5): - The property is between Mývatn lake and Goðafoss waterfall. The campus is a boarding school campus used for hotel in summer. It is a clean hotel.
- Troy (10/5): - This is a muti-use property, a school most of the year with dormitories used as a hotel when not in session. Room was clean and quiet but lacked in decor. The included breakfast buffet was phenomenal. Staff was informative and friendly.
- Chris (8/5): - This was a nice, clean property. During the school year, the room we were in is a dorm room. It was equipped with everything you would expect in a hotel. We had three beds in our room. Two were pulled together to make a "king" size bed, but it is a "king" with a gap down the center. The breakfast was good and included some hot stuff like eggs/bacon/sausage/cereal/yogurts/toast. There is a public pool next door that is associated with this property that you can get a discount to. The only complaint is that it is a fairly large property so there was a tour bus there and breakfast was a bit of a zoo.
- Ninad Nitin (10/5): - Awesome!! Helpful staff.
- Jalila (8/5): - Liked the location but was difficult to find the reception because the sign to the hotel was too small for the entrance. The sign needs to be bigger so guests driving there can find it easier and not have to drive all around to find it!
The room was comfortable and clean
- Daniel (10/5): - This is an old boarding school, but the rooms are nice, decent size and with private bathrooms. Its a small town, but the location is good. Breakfast included.
- Seraz (10/5): - Close to attractions.
May need to cross the toll tunnel to go to Akureyri.
- Fabiana (10/5): - Best night of sleep I got in Iceland. Quiet, super clean, nice non stinky showers , free decent breakfast
- Masahiro (10/5): - Clean, no refrigerator, spacious,
- Komal (8/5): - Was happy with my stay. No frills accomodation. The room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was included. The only issue was there were no blackout curtains, which was a problem cause it doesn't get dark at night in July.
- Taylor (10/5): - With a amazing view, close drive to a few sightseeing spots.
- Katie (8/5): - A quaint property used as a boarding house during the academic year. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was good. It was a unique stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel, good breakfast - Nice hotel, good breakfast
- Jaehyup (10/5): - Excellent property in a good location. About Halfway between Myvatn, Godafoss and Husavik. Shower bathroom attached to the room. Good restaurant on site although dinner menu is limited. Excellent base to explore the area.
- Anthony (4/5): This is a dorm, not a hotel. - This is not a hotel. It’s a dorm room at an athletic boarding school during the school’s offseason. The lady at front desk was super sweet, but not a hotel setting.
- kyong a (4/5): Not recomendable for group - Not a good experience
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice rooms. Very accommodating staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good location, beautiful environment, staffs are
- Verified traveler (8/5): Idyllic Setting - Quaint stay in a boarding school that becomes a hotel in the Icelandic summers. The area was lovely, and the chef in the hotel restaurant was AMAZING!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I like most
- Verified traveler (6/5): Average stay - The check in process was smooth. The rooms were average and so was the food. Friendly staff. Restaurant expensive for the quality of the food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The rooms of Hotel Laugar were clean and pretty spacious. I'm a bit jealous of the schoolkids that attend in the winter! The hotel offers a continental breakfast, and has a piano near reception (a definite bonus in my book). The hotel is walking distance to the swimming pool (separate charge). There is a gas station / restaurant / convenience store within 5 minutes. Overall, would recommend and stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good choice for visiting the lake Myvatn area - Excellent place overall, helpful staff, good breakfast, attractive surroundings. One comment: Stacking the soiled dishes just next to the food buffet is repulsive! Move the cart to a hidden corner, or have your staff clean the tables (after all, it's a full-service hotel not a a fast-food eatery)
- Diego (6/5): The area really compensates. - The hotel feels like Army barracks in the USA, but the personnel, the complex and the area are absolutely fantastic. The bathrooms and rooms in general were outdated. There was no screen on our window and a lightbulb outside kept the window covered in little bugs. It needs updating.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly staff and nice rooms. Food can be a little bit pricey
- Diana (8/5): - Nice location for doing things in the Lake Myvatn and Husavik area. Great breakfast. Great staff.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - THIS PROPERTY IS A BOARDING SCHOOL DORM!! I will admit that when I put our Iceland trip together, this was our last hotel outside of Reykjavik. It was the only hotel available, the reviews were decent, and I didn't do any additional due diligence. However, this doesn't change the fact that we were really unhappy when we learned that we were staying in a tiny, cramped dorm room that lacked enough curtains to cover the windows (it was still light out at midnight). Also, there isn't an elevator, so be ready to lug your suitcases up the stairs.
Dinner was served in the boarding school cafeteria. The staff was really nice, but we were in a boarding school cafeteria, and the food wasn't much better.
- Nancy (10/5): - The staff at Hotel Laugar is very friendly and helpful! Our luggage did not arrive with us from the US. The airline planned to have it delivered to the Hotel Laugar. The reception staff was made aware of the issue and communicated well with each other and us while we touring.
- Aki (8/5): - The place was a little odd, it seemed more like a converted school dormitory (two twin beds, two student desks in the room), but it was comfortable enough. The sad thing was breakfast. We arrived 30 minutes before closing and they had replenished nothing (only two pieces of bacon left cold and alone and sad in the hotel pan, 1 piece of ham, flies in the dining room landing on stuff), a few odd and ends of food. We ate a lot of toast that morning. And we weren't the last ones to arrive to eat. They apologized but did nothing to replenish anything. I watched the wait staff (I work in the food industry) and at no time did they ever check the table or lift the lids of the hotel pans to see what needed to be replenished. They served us an OJ juice box that had expired in April (and this was in July). We sent it back and asked for anything else and they had nothing. I guess driving two minutes to the store in Lauger (which we had visited the previous evening) and buying a couple of cartons of juice was too much effort?? They probably don't depend on repeat business since this place is kind of remote... Anyway, it was good enough for one night to sleep, and don't have high hopes for your free breakfast. The coffee was good though!
- Josep (10/5): perfecte - tot perfecte
- Verified traveler (8/5): nice place in between the lake and Arkureyri. - check in was friendly and efficient. room is spacious and clean. The only thing is the restaurant is very expensive. Nice movie hall for the world cup game.
- Mariko (8/5): Decent place to stay - Polite staff, decent buffet breakfast, lots of parking, and clean.
- Molly (8/5): Good no frills hotel. - A no frills hotel. Clean and comfortable (extra pillows in cupboard.) No tv in room but good breakfast buffet!
- Jon (8/5): - Very comfort and nice
- Jenny (4/5): Too many flies - The reception area and staff were great. The room was not that great I'm comparison. There were so many big flies in the room that kept us awake, although we swatted two of them. The bathroom had a light fixture that was broken plus it was noisy with a sound that we could not identify. The curtains were too short which kept the light coming in. The building which we stayed felt very dated and a little spooky.
