- Verified traveler (8/5): Prima hotel in Bautzen - Prima hotel in Bautzen.
- Jelinkova (10/5): Exceptional - I can fully recommend this hotel, as the location is simply great (we were just worrying about parking options in the historic centre, but the receptionist kindly gave us variety of advices and so no problem at all) and the apartment was very nice. Absolutely calm and clean, with a beautiful terrace and romantic atmosphere. The refreshment-fruit, liquor and bonbons for good night made our hearts melting. And I can also recommend extra payment for breakfast, delicious meals, wide variety of food, it's fully worth 12€. And also tl highlight a nice approach of the owners. Thank you for a beautiful stay :-)

- Joerg (10/5): very nice hotel - I liked the room very much. It was very quiet. I particularly liked the fact that there was a fruit plate in the room and a carafe with delicious sherry and a bottle of mineral water. There are some restaurants nearby. The breakfast in the hotel was very good.
- Roland (8/5): - Ruhige sehr zentrale Innenstadtlage, Parken in ca. 150 m. kostenfrei möglich, guter Service, vernünftige Zimmergröße, kommen wieder

Es empfiehlt sich eine Tour durch das historische Gefängnis Bautzen II am besten mit Führung ( vorher anmelden))
- RobinLeChaudLapin (10/5): Old Town Style - Our group of four friends stayed four nights and have nothing but good words to say about the Schloss. Our rooms were at the top of the hotel, and although on first looks we were concerned about climbing them every day, our host helped with bags on arrival and departure and we enjoyed the exercise!
Our rooms were spacious, breakfasts were more than adequate and we enjoyed being able to walk in to the town, cafes, restaurants and shops and not having to worry about parking. Having been on the road for a number of days we were also pleased to be able to find and use the Wasch Cafe (laundrette) on the other side of town (only open Monday to Thursday- leave your laundry and it is returned folded!)
We would recommend anyone considering a visit to the town to stay here.
- BaselLisa (10/5): Absolutely charming, historic, and so peaceful - We're staying here right now and totally recommend it. The hotel building dates back to the 14th century and was originally owned by The order of Franciscans. It's in the old town in a very peaceful area.
The owners couldn't have been more helpful. We had all the information we needed in advance. Free hotel parking is just a few steps away.
Our room, 14, is absolutely charming. The bridal room, it features an historic four poster bed. The room itself is very pretty, looking out on two sides to the old town around it. Fruit and drinks awaited us in our arrival. Access to the rooms is via an ancient stone staircase, so it feels at times like you're really staying in a castle.
Breakfast was very good. It was the first time I'd breakfasted by candlelight!
The only small thing is that we were cold overnight, and this in August. So bring warm pajamas.
A lovely, memorable stay.
- James1612 (6/5): OK, but disappointed - Room was good, breakfast was good. However very frustrated that there was nowhere to sit and have a drink. They sell wine, which is expensive, but then expect you to sit in your room.
Wouldn't visit again
- Karmoy (10/5): Three nights in a Bautzen tower - In late August I was in Berlin and went to Bautzen for 3 nights to see the wonderful old town and have a change from the big city (which I love). Bautzen was wonderful; and the Schloss Schaenke was the perfect place to stay for exploring it.
The hosts were as pleasant and helpful as anyone could be, offering to pick me up at the train station (I am not sure this would always be possible if it is a busy time at the Hotel; so don't expect it); and booking a room for me in "their tower" which I knew nothing about. I had an image of some old church or town hall tower; but my room was in one of the stone towers built into the walls which still surround that end of the town. My window in the old stone walls looked down along the walls and towers going into the distance, and down below to the Spree River on its journey to Berlin. The room and bath (which was huge and completely up to date) were very handsomely restored and comfortable, but still you were completely aware of being inside the curved stone walls of the tower.
Breakfast was in the main house, and was excellent.
Because of the Hotel's location near the walls on that particular part of the town, it is easy to walk down the outer paths and staircases to the River (which you should do, to explore the River area and look up at the walls above you), and even to go up the bluff on the other side to a small church from which there are more splendid views of the town.
The old town is not too large to easily walk around; and there are numerous restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance of the Hotel. You will not need (or want) a car once you get there. (As I said, I took the train down from Berlin; and actually the station is close enough to walk to the Hotel if you are not carrying a lot of luggage. I did walk on my way back.)
Highly recommended.
I will also add a word about Görlitz, which is not far away to the East, and is another wonderfully preserved old town which I had visited on another trip. I will not chose one over the other which would be silly, since they are both easy to reach by train from the larger German cities. But they have a quite different look and character; and by all means, do NOT miss visiting Bautzen on the assumption that they are "twins".
- 115g_rard (10/5): Totally eager to be of service - Arriving at the local airport, they already called us to hear if they could do anything for us. Being difficult to get taxis at that very moment, the owner jumped in his car to pick up some of us.
Extremely clean, beautiful local atmosfere, excellent breakfast.
Not an option go go somewhere else next time.
- Reviewer723 (10/5): Wonderful Hotel - We stayed in a room in the beautifully medieval restored tower, part of the city fortifications. Beautiful room. The breakfast is excellent and the hotel is walking distance from all the major sites, 2 minutes to the castle and 3 minutes to the main market square. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We can highly recommend this hotel.
- miap (8/5): Lovely Stay!! - We stayed here in August. We stayed here with a large party as we were all going to a local wedding. Bautzen itself is very beautiful and the hotel reflected that. We stayed in a corner room with a four poster bed, it was very welcome to open all windows as it was 38 degrees most days and this kept us cool. Very quiet although in the middle of the old town, very peaceful. Breakfast was lovely and the people running the hotel were very helpful. Parking was nearby, and there were lots of places to explore and to eat at.
The room was spotless, and had everything you would need - except could do with a long length mirror. Otherwise a very welcome place to come back to after a lovely wedding.
- 2PFK (8/5): Good location and Easy parking - What a pleasure to stay in this small Hotel. Location was good., Car Parking very close. Good eating within 200 m walk. Owners very helpful. The wireless did not reach our room but we were able to use it down stairs.
- AngeKWA (10/5): Comfy Castle - Our family of 4 spent 3 nights here in 2 connecting tower rooms. The tower is part of the old city fortifications, which means you are situated right in the heart of the old city and get to enjoy your own medieval walls. The stone walls in the tower rooms are exposed, with modern windows fitted into the openings. During a raging thunderstorm, we couldn't hear or feel a thing. The thick walls also kept the rooms nicely cool, even in 90 degree weather (no A/C, but we didn't need it.) There are no window screens, which meant we got a few bugs, but not a real issue.
This hotel is simple but clean and nicely kept. Note that the tower building is not connected with the rest of the hotel, but it is just a few meters away. You get your own key to your room and the building. A yummy and fresh, if not too elaborate, breakfast is served in the main hotel building.
Our room had a shower (no bath) that required a step up of about 10 inches, which could be a concern for some folks. No elevators either.
Loved charming Schloss Schaenke--a really great deal for nice rooms, nice breakfast and nice proprietors.
- georgiatravelor (10/5): Schloss Schanenke Hotel - A Wonderful Place to Stay - I really enjoyed this hotel. My corner room was filled with old world charm, flooded with light from the large windows on two sides with a great view. The couple who run it were extremely helpful with my logistics in doing local genealogy research. Could not have been nicer! The breakfast was wonderful too. A great, quite location near the castle and Sorbish Museum, and perfect SHORT walk to the Bautzen Christmas Market!
- ImJohnHime (10/5): This should be #1 hotel in Bautzen - Wonderful. Beautiful, quaint hotel right in the heart of old town. However, very quiet location. Many good restaurant choices nearby. Immaculately clean and decorated very smartly.
Breakfast was delicious and the couple who run Schloss Schaenke are very nice and helpful.
Wonderful choice. I highly recommend.
- Eelbrookrest (10/5): Charming place in beautiful town - I spent three lovely nights at this small hotel/ BB.
I arrived by train and was kindly picked up by hotel owner. It is quite a walk from the station up hilly streets and avenues.
The Schloss-Shanke is bang in the middle of the beautiful old town. Neighbourhood is so pretty, flowers everywhere, cobbled street , many restaurants nearby. However, it is very quiet.. no noise.
The house is gorgeous, stone stairs ro upper floor where my room was.
I booked the bridal suite. It was lovely. Inmaculately clean, attention to deatil is superb and full of little complementary drinks even some sherry for me to enjoy in the room. Being a corner room it benefits from a lovely breeze, something I appreciate it in mid summer.
It is very quite... you get the main key to the house and come and go as you please.
Breakfast was served buffet style.. with owner and his wife -charming young couple- bring you coffee - tea. All is very smart.. again the attention to deatil is very good.
Chech in/ out very quick and hassle free.
I was very impressed with the beauty of this old house and excellent service.
I recommend this place 100%.
- ruppbenn_traveling (8/5): lovely small inn - This is a lovely small inn in a quaint, small town. Schloss Schaenke is located inside the wall of the old city of Bautzen and is a very comfortable place to stay. The inn is run by a young friendly couple and is spotless. The room we had in the main house (the inn also has a tower building with rooms) was spacious with a comfortable bed and an equally spacious bathroom. The buffet breakfast was superb and plentiful.
If you should visit this delightful town, we highly recommend Schloss Schaenke. We had only positive experiences in this small inn.
