Guest Reviews
- Olivia (9/5): - La vue tout en haut du Riad.
La gentillesse de notre hébergeur.
- ana (7/5): - Lokacija je super. Blizu glavnih ulica.
- Rimona (8/5): Good value for money - Good value for money. The host was an elderly gentleman who communicated mostly in Arabic and French therefore we used Google translate. He served us tea whenever we asked us and also offered tea to my friends who visited. It’s 7 min walk to main square around Bahia Palace. Room was basic but comfortable and clean. Not noisy at all. Breakfast was good Downstairs guest toilet could do with a bit of refurbishment
- Rosa (9/5): -
- Joy (10/5): -
- Diletta (9/5): - Very nice position and nice breakfast and beautiful terrace, we had a pleasant stay
- Andrew James (10/5): - The man who runs it does not speak much English so I had to communicate with him in french (which he soeaks fluently and I dont!) but he was so sweet and friendly and always asked what time I would like breakfast and he was happy to do it whatever i asked for. You dont get a key for the entrance of the riad so you have to ring the bell but he always answered wirh a smile even when late (about midnight was the latest night i got back). The facilities in the room was basic but the riad has a vrry authentic and traditional feel and the comuunal areas are beautiful and peaceful including a rooftop terrace and a traditional open terrace on the ground floor, where breakfast was served, with a (mini) pool. You'll find riads with better more facilities but if would thouroughly recommend staying here, especially if you're on a budget.
- Kouyate (8/5): - Le décor ,le calme l’emplacement Le petit déjeuner était un peu maigre
- Kawashima (10/5): -
- Alexandra (4/5): - This was the least hospitable riad we stayed at in Marrakesh. The room did not have working air conditioning, and the street our room faced was very busy so it was noisy at night with the window open. The bathroom was poorly designed because the shower was directly in front of the sink with no curtain to separate it, so we were standing in the wet shower when using the sink. The location is not far from the main square, but you have to walk through areas without sidewalks to access them. We also disliked that we were not given a key to the front door like we were at other riads and we had to ring the doorbell every time we came back to our room. We had much better experiences at other riads that charged the same price.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not happy - When we arrived, the first impression was a rather unappealing and unclean “pool” that didn’t feel inviting to use. The staff member who greeted us was friendly, but communication was quite difficult since he only spoke French. We tried using Google Translate, which helped a little, but it wasn’t enough to have a proper conversation.
From the first to the last night, it was a disaster. We were given a room with a window facing the street, and we could hear everything – cars, mopeds, horses, people – going on non-stop until around 2 AM. We complained in the morning, but they wouldn’t let us change rooms even though we were the only guests at the hotel.
I also contacted Hotels.com to try and get a refund so we could book another hotel, but nothing came of it since the hotel manager didn’t answer the phone and the support staff couldn’t help.
I later noticed a small wooden window inside our bathroom that led directly to the staircase used by all guests – meaning people could hear everything happening in the bathroom if they walked past, which didn’t feel very pleasant or private.
- Amanda (10/5): I can't wait to return!! - Gorgeous riad. Yes it's a little dated and needs some maintenance, but it's absolutely charming, clean and brilliant value for money. Ibrahim is very friendly and helpful, no English but we still managed to comunicate. The roof terrace is fabulous, 3 levels and several seating areas. Breakfast is more than adequate and tea or coffee are always available. Focus on the lovely birdsong not the traffic noise. (You're're in a city what do you expect) Great location, right next to Bahia Palace and short walk to cafes and souks.
I can't wait to return xx Loved my stay at Riad Marelia, absolutely nothing to dislike. Just do your research! Hotel or Riad?? Bright rooms and swimming pool?? Airport shuttle is a must for me, I don't want to drag my case through the souk looking for an elusive riad door! Marrakech is unique, if you want perfection go to Dubai, otherwise have an open mind, lower your expectations and immerse yourself in the history and culture of this amazing city.
- yanning (2/5): - 不满意
- Shunmugapriya (10/5): - Staff and service are excellent . Area is walkable to medina and shopping places.
- Sandrine (10/5): - Personnel accueillant, Riad charmant
- Tehreem (4/5): - The property advertises as having a spa and pool which it did not have.that was the readon for me booking this place. False advetisement makes it really annoying.
The host was overly friendly trying to hug which made me feel insecure.
The facilities were alright
- Mariana (9/5): Comfortable and homie - The staff was very kind and helpful. They helped us and gave us a lot of tips. They are very hospitable and hard working. The place is very charming and very well located.
- Radmila (8/5): - Sooo… the Riad in good location, walkable every where , 2 minutes Bahia Palace, 8-10 minutes to Koutoubia and El Jemma square, 5 minutes to Souk. Lots of dining places. As for Riad, old, rooms small, i had twin room just for myself it was small, there were 3 beds actually. Breakfast is bread pita, crepes, coffee, juice, olives. No fruits, no eggs- was a problem for me as I am more on eating healthy staff and was craving for normal breakfast. But 3 minutes walk there is a small like street place they make eggs over there. Also, if you need hair dryer need to ask, cause there was no inside the room. Btw, as for the owner Ibrahim, very nice old men, no speaking english (just French and Arabic), but very nice attentive. Would I stay there again, probably not, but more because it is noisy street, very noisy. And too much going on around there. Overall for that price it worth of it, cause I also was booking last minute. Also, no need to take tours around there, just explore everything by yourself, cause it is great location for it.
- Madiha (8/5): - This riad is a nice traditional riad it has a very authentic moroccon feel to it. It is is a little dated, so dont expect luxury, but it is still good and a very charming riad. It is clean and we did not face any real issues with it. Breakfast is okay, but not much variety though. We also had to buy soap as the soap provided was very small. The surrounding area seems a little scary but is completely fine, locals are very friendly and amazing people!! Very close to Bahia palace, Koutubia and mosque other main attractions. There is parking nearby, but you have to pay. Please note that if you do not speak French it is a little hard to communicate with the Riad’s receptionist/housekeeper but you can use google translate, but he is very sweet and does his best. We had to leave for the airport at 6:30 and he accomodated and made breakfast early for us, which you would not get at big restaurants. The manager was also very helpful with any quieries or favours! Overall great stay
- Brian (10/5): - Very nice!
- Isaiah (10/5): - Amazing property and property management. Super peaceful and beautiful, caring staff who were all so lovely. Only downside is you have to wait for the property manager to open the door to the Riad everytime
- Brennan (8/5): - This was a sweet Riad. The main courtyard was beautiful. It was clean and run by a lovely man. Although breakfast was lovingly presented, it was very small and there was no protein - Possibly normal for Morocco.
- Oscar (10/5): - Ibrahim was an excellent host, who was friendly and helpful. The riad is in a great location, within walkable distance of the plaza but removed from the hustle and bustle. The room was clean and provided the essentials. Would recommend for the price 👍
- Neuza (10/5): Lovely - The facilities are very comfortable and clean, and the staff in general were very attentive and caring. Even though he doesn't speak English, Mr. Ibrahim did everything he could to make us feel comfortable. He was very loving kind and attentive, and told us the best places to visit and what to look out for. I speak a little French, so we could talk a little each day. Even though he was far away, Morad also showed us his attention and care. I don't know if it's because we went in February, but the Riad's terrace could have been more attentive. It has a beautiful view and the sun shines fantastically. We couldn't leave the Riad without visiting the terrace every day. The breakfast was excellent, and I must mention the wonderful tea they offered us. We will definitely visit again. Kind cold during the night.
- Sumi (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay at the Riad we miss Ibrahim he was a sweetheart reminded me of my grandad very welcoming and - The property was very well beautiful good location not too far from the centre The property is very nice, but there are some small changes you can make like working on the rooftop adding new sunbath chairs doing it up would make huge improvements our room had few electrical issues some plugs were working some were not and the sink drain was very slow but other than that it was nice and cosy place host was very welcoming
- Karen (10/5): - We loved our stay at this charming Riad which is situated very close to the Bahia palace and the Medina. The gentleman taking care of the Riad is the sweetest man you’ll ever meet. We will definitely be coming back.
- Sajad (7/5): All in all, we were fully satisfied with our stay, especially considering the excellent value for the price. The central - The property's location was extremely central, providing easy access to everything in the heart of the city. The rooftop was a standout feature, offering a fantastic spot to sunbathe all day while enjoying a beautiful view. Additionally, Ibrahim, the person responsible for guest relations, was exceptionally kind and helpful. We truly appreciated the way he treated us and made our stay so pleasant. The breakfast was always prepared and ready, whether we woke up early or decided to sleep in. It was a wonderful experience overall! While the property’s central location was a major advantage, it did come with some drawbacks. Unfortunately, the noise from outside the building was noticeable, especially since our room faced the street. During the early morning hours, when traffic and rush hour began, the sounds from the street were quite audible, which occasionally disrupted our peace. Despite this, the overall experience was still enjoyable.
- Thomale (9/5): It was quite nice. - The historic character of the building. Beautiful architecture. Nothing
- Simon (10/5): A home from home in Marrakech! - The location was very central, very close to the Bahia Palace and the souks and the squares where all the restaurants and activities are, and not far from the Saardian Tombs. The breakfast was simple but ample: juice, all the coffee you wanted, bread, various pancakes, muffins, plus jam, marmalade, honey. You eat it in a beautiful courtyard, full of birdsong. Marrakesh is an exciting but intense city, and the riad provided an oasis of calm to retreat back to, to rest and recharge.
Morad sorted out the taxi shuttles to and from the airport, so no stress there, and in the riad Ibrahim was a fantastic host. If you wanted some tea or coffee he would provide it at any time, at no extra charge. If you can speak a little simple French it would be helpful. However, if you want to stay somewhere that feels very Moroccan, but is comfortable, friendly and safe, I recommend Marélia highly. It felt like a home from home.
- Emese (10/5): Exceptional - What I have to tell is the helpfulness of the hosts! I couldnt ask anything they wouldnt have helped in any case. Morad always answered immediately and Ibrahim was also cute and helpful!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice, but far from perfect - The stay was lovely beacuse of the host and warm feeling, but there were some issues during our stay. A/C in the room was not working, there was no swimming pool, restaurant (except for breakfast) nor beauty/massage services on the premises, as was written in the advertiment.
The breakfast was quite narrow and exactly the same every day (would've been nice with some fresh veggies or fruits). The room had a bathtub, but you were not able to use it, since there was no plug. The building was nice, but could use some new furniture and f.ex. cozy lights for the evenings.
- Bedirhan (7/5): Good -
- Clara (10/5): Such a cozy Riad :)! - Thanks so much to Mister Ibrahim for his hospitality! He made our stay an amazing experience and it felt like being guest at his home. Shukran and Marhaba!
- Kseniya (10/5): Great location - Wonderful Riad. Central location next to Bahia Palace. Charming and authentic. Ibrahim who manages riad is wonderful and friendly.
- Khaoula (7/5): Good -
- Valentina (10/5): - The stay was very nice and the host treat us very well with the best mint tea we had so far in Morocco. The rooftop terrace is quite outstanding. We definitely recommend a stay here.
- Katheryn (1/5): Don’t stay at this riad!! They do not help you with anything! They don’t print your boarding tickets, they don’t receive - The location Don’t stay at this riad!! They do not help you with anything! They don’t print your boarding tickets, they don’t receive card to pay your stay, the property is old and it’s not well managed, it’s nothing like the pictures. When we arrived all the lights were turned off. The smell is not nice, the old man that is in charge is gentil but he only speaks French, so that’s a limitation! This Riad doesn’t have the facilities that a traveller needs. The guy of the first Riad I stayed in was the one who helped me with everything even though I wasn’t staying there anymore. If you’re reading this I recommend this Riad: Moullaty Lalla Khadija &Spa
- 537ugoc (4/5): Over rated rating - I cannot fault the host. He was an elderly gentleman, who did his best to help us with sourcing a taxi for an early morning flight. Unfortunately there was a language barrier, so we didn't always understand each other.
The riad itself is a lovely space, unfortunately our room was lacking any working plug points. Both beds were broken, as they made a lot of noise, whenever you moved..
Our room faced the main street , and was quite noisy, day and night.
There were nowhere to hang clothes and nothing to hand them with, so we literally lived out of the suitcase.
The wifi was very intermittent, only being able to get coverage when either by the bedroom door, or downstairs in the reception area.
The riad says breakfast included, however breakfast was nothing other than re heated bread, omelette. and Luke warm coffee or mint tea every day.
We had an episode were we returned from a spa day, there was noone to let us back in,so we stood outside for approximately 10-15 minutes, the contact number on the website does not work.
The riad is located close to many attractions and the main square, which is a bonus.
The rating it has I believe needs to be lowered.
- Amalia (1/5): Awful experience. We felt harassed. - We had the worst possible treatment from the host. Room was ok. The host was extremely rude. Did not speak any English or Spanish and when we tried to ask him for someone to help us communicate or use google translate to Arabic he got upset. First, we were not clear why he was charging us almost 20 euro more vs what the Booking reservation said. And he got very rude when we were asking. I had to look for the booking receipt to detail, if he would have explained that we would have avoided a really unpleasant check-in. Then, the day before check out HE OFFERED we could leave our bags in the lobby after checkout because we had a late flight. The day of the check-out he asked if we could leave 30 minutes early of the stated time “because new customers where coming” (or that is what we understood…) but we had already an experience booked and said no, that we would leave at the exact hour (12m). During the check-out, at the correct time noon, he basically kicked us out and said we could not leave anything there because there would be no one later to open (for me a lie because there is never an empty Riat if there are customers). Anyway… we where left on the street with no plan and our bags for all day. It was the worst experience we had on our trip, really disappointed because all other Moroccan people except that man are real nice.
- Mohamed (2/5): Very poor -
- Rim (1/5): Bad -
- Roger (8/5): - A real Moroccan experience with a traditional riad.Although quite basic it was very convenient for Marrakech s sights, was clean and Ibrahim the host was very welcoming.. Knowledge of some French made the stay a lot easier.Would certainly return there as great value for money.
- Jawad (5/5): Passable - To be honest location, is extremely difficult to find.
Not what I was expecting. Only good air-conditioned.
- Amelia (9/5): Well-located, comfortable stay with charming hosts - Centrally located, the riad is easily accessible to the centre and to various shopping & dining locations. The rooftop terrace has several nice seating nooks for groups of various sizes. The staff were incredibly welcoming with delicious mint tea on hand. The staff respects your privacy and doesn't clean the rooms unless you ask. We appreciated the privacy but is good to know that you have to request a room cleaning.
- Cristina (10/5): Quite, relaxing and kind Riad - The property is quiet, clean and nice. I really liked the terrace on top of the riad, it’s lovely and relaxing above all after a walking day in Marrakech
- Bibi (6/5): The hosts were friendly and the location is good. It’s walking distance to some of the main attacks in Marrakech. -
- Ahmad (9/5): Superb - How nice it looks and the location is great I wish that had more breakfast options
- Evasušnik (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed spending time at Riad Marelia. The location was perfect for us.
The street was a bit loud but we loved watching what was going on outside.
The terrace was perfect for resting during hot days and watching sunsets.
The host was really kind and nice. He did not speak any English but he told us everything we need to know. The breakfast was very good and served perfectly in the morning. We got the best tea.
- Kara (8/5): Elegant, large, clean room in quiet riad. - Lovely large room The bed was quite hard. It was quite dark in the area to return to the riad in the evening
- Hubert (7/5): Good -
- Bob (3/5): Don't stay here - there are much better Riads for this price. - The location is good, just a two minutes walk from the Bahia Palace and an interesting walk through the Souks to the Jemaa el-Fnaa city square. Marrakech is a riot of sound, scent and sights. There are more Souks then I could see in 7 days. Plenty of cafes, restaurants and a few bars serving alcoholic drinks. Be prepared for a lot of traffic - motorcycles riding through the souks are a hazard, for the danger of collision and for their fumes. This Riad is very run-down, and not properly maintained. eg: broken toilet seat; broken shower which points to the wall; one non-working bedside light and the only accessible bedside mains socket was not working; room centre-light not working; Bathroom wall-lights hanging by their cables; chipped sink; worn-out carpets and towels. Advertised as having an "indoor swimming pool" (this is the reason I chose it). However it has only the usual decorative half-moon small pool, open in the centre of the property. One could paddle in it, if it were cleaner. However, you definitely cannot SWIM! When I asked the manager "Ou est la piscine?" he laughed. Breakfast was pancakes, bread and jam with coffee and orange juice. No fruit or cheese. When I asked "avez-vous du fromage?" he replied "demain" (tomorrow). The next day, two triangles of processed cheese appeared, but not subsequently, though I did ask again. Now, I know this is a poor country, and so I just dialled-down my expectations. However, subsequently during my visit, I met an American, an Englishman, a Scot and an Austrian couple. I asked each of them about their Riads and the price they paid. Every one was vastly better - and at a similar price: I saw photos of colourful rooms, all very clean and with a much better breakfast.
- Mark (7/5): Good -
- Katarzyna (3/5): Never again - Was in a quite good location, next to Bahia Palace The room was very dark, smelling bad, no facilities
To enter to the building and your room, you need to always ring ans someone will open it for you
Breakfast was just disgusting
Can’t pay by card
Not a good value for money
Very dirty
- Lina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (9/5): A brilliant journey to Marrekesh and fantastic Riad stay. - Lovely location, in the Jewish quarter. Beautifully presented Riad with balcony and lovely original features throughout. Could be chilly in the Spring evenings
- Amal (7/5): Good - The Riad is beautiful and well located (Taxi can drop you off right in front of it which is rare in the medina) the room was beautiful. Breakfast is poor given the price for the room. More salty options and eggs would be great. The curfew is non sense, invest in a key and dont make people come before midnight so the staff can open you the door. The guy was nice enough to still open the door for us but we felt very bad about it.
When we wanted to check out the guy kept knocking on my door exactly two minutes past check out time and literally said : we need the room, it's time to check out. I was already on my way out and waiting 5 minutes wouldn't hurt anyone. WiFi is useless.
- Coltart (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abbie (8/5): Despite the gentlemen having a language barrier with us, he tried his hardest throughout to talk to us and translate in - Rooms and the entire riad was super nice, very clean and safe. wouldn’t recommend the location (as in central marrakesh in general) if you’re a young girl or woman. The riad was perfect for what we were looking for, however the moment you step out of the riad just be aware of your surroundings.
- Rizwanullah (2/5): No good property - Hi thanks to give me opportunity to inform you about the property.
Please check the issues list below.
1, there was no English speaking receptionist we spend 1 hour to take the key because there was an old person on the reception and not understand anything he took Extra money from us and refused to give us receipt.
2, too cold room on the the request he give us electrical heater with is not comfortable for us.
3, the property was empty but still he didn’t give both rooms together and no light was in the property after 11pm also he didn’t allow us to go out after 11pm because he looked the door and no entry after 11pm.
4, Breakfast only a few things like Moroccan tea beard and jams.
5, no toiletries at all
The bottom line not happy with this property
Just waset of money.
- Jenny (8/5): Very good - The Road was very nice, decent room, helpful hosts, good breakfast The bathroom was a bit broken and we didn’t have our own keys to open the outside door so every time we went out we had to knock the door
- Kaja (10/5): Exceptional - The host was very friendly and helpful. He took care of the taxi we had at 3:00 in the morning. The breakfast was delicious.
Personale gentile e disponibile.
- Susana (10/5): Exceptional - The worker who was all the day at the Riad was very helpful and a very nice person!
- Mohammed (2/5): - Was not a pleasant experience overall.
