- Danielle (6/5): -
- Paul (10/5): - Great location at end of canal by Morcombe Bay. Beautiful views across the estuary with twinkling lights from Morecambe to Blackpool tower. This is where we celebrated walking the end of the Cumbria Way. Hearty food, good beer and homely fire...
- Shaun (5/5): Food and staff lovely the room we had it just smelt of damp which kind of ruined our sleep - The food was amazing the steak by far the best we have had really really good and location th view amazing The bedroom, very smelly and damp could smell damp as soon as we entered which was off putting
- Tim (10/5): - Place is spot on it was my third time. Definitely using the place again
- Alison Carson (7/5): - Location was amazing with wonderful views.
Food in the restaurant was delicious. The room was cold, especially the bathroom.
Bed was soft and a double bed rather than a king size is disappointing.
- Beth (7/5): We love the Bay Horse for its ambience...inside and out - Comfy. Location amazing. Friendly. Pub closed at 9.30. Though staff happy to keep bar.open, the door was shut for my wife returning at 9.45 and essentially closed so had to take drink to bedroom.
- Barbara (10/5): Great break away - Location was lovely with a view of the estuary Nothing to dislike, even in the rain it was fun
- Ravyn (10/5): Perfect - We had a fantastic time at The Bay Horse. The location was beautiful, with plenty of places to walk our dog and lots to see. The room was very clean and comfortable and had a lovely sea view. The food at the Bay Horse was delicious and the staff were very attentive.
Thank you for a fantastic break and we would love to join you again in the very near future
- Keighley (10/5): -
- Rosalind (8/5): Well worth the distance we had to travel to get there! - Friendly, efficient staff. Cosy atmosphere with log fire in the bar. View of the bay. Cold in the conservatory for breakfast despite heaters. Would have preferred to sit in the warmer bar area.
- nathan (3/5): view nice , room dated , breakfast total disaster - We was running late and the hotel rung to see when we would be arriving and that she was just concerned that we was okay which was a really nice thing When i arrived I went into the bar area, checked in paid for the dog and we was taken to our room, checking in was no problem, my first problem started that we couldn't find any physical way to turn the wall lights off, so they was on all night, we expected a balcony, yet its just a walkway, I did mention that we would have breakfast in the morning at 9:30 of which in the morning that's when it went downhill rapid, the breakfast was £20 each and if you look on the menu you get a big selection including bucks fizz, porridge and full hearty breakfast, jam and unlimited coffee , don't forget this is £20 each, at breakfast time we was shown to our table in the conservatory which was heated by two electric fan heaters just thought it was weird that there was plenty of room in the bar area where it was more warmer.
Not once did the staff say how was your night, absolutely no customer service in the morning whatsoever, the staff took our order for the breakfast and whilst we was waiting I said do we help ourselves to cerial and porridge, she replied that the breakfast is nearly ready and was narky about getting my cereal, I then asked could my friend have the grapefruit, and her reply was it will take 15 minutes to cook, then she realized what she said and then said it will take 15 minutes to prepare it and your breakfast is nearly ready, so we said forget it and that was the end of the grapefruit, looking at the breakfast do you really think it's worth 20 pound no jam as on the menu with preservatives, no offer of refils, I was that disappointed at myself for booking such a breakfast I went to my room to start packing and I thought I'm not being ripped off so I left £20 in an envelope with the key on the bed and emailed them on the way home explaining my thoughts and it's been a week since we stayed and not one reply, if you look at the floor the carpet and all the tatt next to the table it's far from perfect and at £100.
- Rosbin (8/5): Very good stay - Accessibility from the river view rooms to the car Food was really good.
- Cheryl (6/5): Not worth the money but Pleasant stay handy if you like to fish - Bed was really comfortable, log fire, friendly staff. Room was absolutely Baltic had to go to bed with clothes on, including socks. Not the cleanest neither lots of cobwebs. £20 for a breakfast and food in general was quite expensive
- Cardozo (10/5): - Warm friendly staff ~ pub so comfortable ~ delicious food! No complaints at all.
- Celia (10/5): Wonderful relaxing stay – and you can come by train! - We enjoyed a relaxing 2 night stay in this warm and welcoming hotel. The weather was not good, but we happily passed the time watching the birds on the estuary, had lunch in the conservatory and evening drinks by the fire in the bar. Staff were all friendly and efficient and helped to make it a very pleasant time for us.
Next time we hope to be able to do some walks! We came by train to Ulverston - from the station it’s an hour’s walk along the canal - or you can take a taxi!
- Sumit (10/5): -
- Travis (8/5): -
- Helen Jane (10/5): - Location
Food Nothing
- Adrian (8/5): A surprisingly good overnight stay with fabulous views. - Fabulous location right on the estuary - the sunrise was spectacular! The breakfast was good and the accommodation perfect for our dog as we could enter and leave the room via the shared verandah.
The hotel is a little faded, but clean and comfortable. Nothing
- Paul (9/5): - Lovely old pub in a secluded location on the estuary. Fabulous food in the restaurant and warm, comfortable rooms. Breakfasts were rather expensive...£2.50 per slice of bacon added to your scrambled eggs and £3 for 2 very small slices of toast.
- carole (10/5): - Bay hotel in lovely spot comfortable and very friendly staff. Ideal for the south lakea
- Louise (9/5): Wonderful stay - A fabulous location. Very welcomed by staff . Shown to our room to a beautiful balcony with the best view . Booked a meal .. the food was beautiful. A good check out time. We didnt have breakfast but the menu looked really good. A perfect location for walkers and couples for a relaxing break Nothing to dislike. The only niggle as with most hotels are the noise of showers/toilet flushing early morning and the slam of firedoors but this wouldn't put me off coming to stay again.
- Ian (9/5): Fantastic - Very good food
- Peter (8/5): A hidden gem off the beaten track - The setting is lovely overlooking the estuary particularly when seated in the conservatory for food. Our evening meal was exceptional, local friends who joined us said they had never had a nicer meal. We booked without any knowledge of the hotel or its facilities THe breakfast offer was comprehensive but we felt it was rather costly.
- Jenna Rose (8/5): Comfortable and calm - Being in the countryside but also overlooking the sea
- Vivienne (4/5): Not as it could have been. I would expect a room not to smell of damp - Breakfast was fine. big choice on the menu Our room smelled very damp. it could have been aired properly before we went into it. looked like damp patches in places. Didn't really want to have a long bath as is smelled a bit mouldy in that bathroom.
- Colin (10/5): -
- Julie (9/5): Fantastic location, staff and food. We will return - We have stayed at the Bay Horse Hotel before and will return again. The location was beautiful and close to Ulverston. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

- Miriam (7/5): -
- Lorraine (7/5): - Bteakfast was good
- alex (6/5): Lovely situated hotel, I hope they can improve the decor - Lovely location on the estuary, nice views, food was nice, staff lovely It is in need of an update, rooms bar and restaurant all in need of some refurb
- Laura (2/5): - Absolutely stunning views.
Very friendly and efficient staff.
Lovely quiet location.
Excellent food and service in restaurant. Room had severely moth bitten carpet throughout the room.
Bedding was damp, unfortunately I was unable to sleep in the bed.
Damp/water marks on curtains.
Thankfully my friends (x2) rooms did not have the above issues.
- Kevin (8/5): Lovely hotel in a great location, food and service excellent. - Had lunch and dinner. Very good food and service. Also had drinks in the bar, again, good service and value for money. The veiw from our window didn't match the location of the hotel, which is stunning. Also the bed was a bit soft, but that's a personal opinion.
- Bell (7/5): Great views - Location is fantastic, and food is very good. Room is in need of an upgrade, particularly as there is clearly an issue with damp.
- Katharine (10/5): Beautiful unique place, with fantastic views of estuary and countryside. Great food. - Beautiful location with amazing views of estuary, and local bird life. Captivating tide changes and a the train can be spotted in the distance, travelling along the coast, a truly magical place. Staff very helpful and food exceptional.
- Dr Creative (10/5): Fantastic stay - The best view you could eish for if you like watching water and nature Bath tap washers need fixing but that didn't bother us
- Craig (8/5): - The view The apple crumble
- Andrew (1/5): glad only 1 night - poor at extra cost Needs total refurb
- Maitland (10/5): Room with a view - View from the room was fabulous waking up to the sunset. Spacious very quiet which we loved. No traffic noise . Evening meals out standing great choice on menu. Breakfast we found expensive as paying for individual items. It Would be better if it was a set price . Also making ordering easier for waitress as well as customer.
- Toni (7/5): A very last minute 2 night break. - Lovely traditional hotel & restaurant with tasty food. We loved the waterfront location with far-reaching views. Only there for 2 nights so the fact that the rooms needed a refresh wasnt really a big deal, would be nice though to have less furniture and bigger beds.
- Cj (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mark (10/5): Location is great. Stunning views. - Location was lovely Hospitality and effort to make you feel comfortable and cater for your needs
- Ashley (7/5): Good -
- Samantha (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (10/5): Brilliant location, friendly staff and fabulous meals - The property had a balcony outside the bedroom overlooking the water which made it lovely to sit out and enjoy the view. We had breakfast and fantastic evening meals in the conservatory also looking out over the water. The property was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend this accommodation.
- Watson (8/5): Enjoyable stay. - Homely,, relaxed atmosphere. Helpful staff.
Wonderful views outside with a drink. Good , evening meal. Lamb shank was excellent. Baby sweetcorn in breadcrumbs a bit random.
Breakfast was excellent . Although disappointing that I could only have ONE egg. I understand why , I think, but you should always have a choice at breakfasts.
- Mckeown (10/5): Exceptional -

The restaurant offers excellent quality food. We had breakfast and dinner here during our stay and we could not fault it.
Although the hotel is a bit dates and old-fashioned in its decor, it was spotlessly clean.

- Sandra (9/5): Superb -
- David (6/5): Pleasant hotel. A comfy nights sleep in a nice quite location - Pleasant outlook on the shore and near to the canal. Comfy bed and decent bathroom.
Traditional looking hotel, although room a little dated for my taste. Decor. I didn't feel the breakfast is value for money at £20 although it was quite nice.
- Darren (9/5): Superb - Food was fantastic, staff so friendly, location is brilliant. Room was a little dated.
- Jean (9/5): Wonderful Inn in a fabulous location evening meal was superb. -
- Paul (9/5): Our Bay Horse Stay: Wed: 28th Aug - Sun 1st Sep 2024 - The location & views surrounding The Bay Horse are amazing & the patio doors leading onto the seated patio area from the room is a great addition, providing a relaxed feel.
The sun rises & sunsets on a clear day are spectacular.
All the staff, in this lovely family run business, are welcoming & accommodating to your every need & they all work extremely hard, with a view to providing you with a lovely experience.
Whether it's breakfast, lunch or evening meal, the food is amazing & the chef is passionate & a perfectionist, when it comes to presentation & taste.
Overall we had a lovely, relaxed & enjoyable experience & this is the reason we keep coming back. The driveway leading to the on-site parking, (at the front of the accommodation & entrance area), is in need of a little repair due to potholes, pooling water & uneven surface, to accommodate people who are little less mobile.
There's also some loose flags on the patio area, leading to & from the accommodation, that could potentially cause a trip hazard, especially if you're unsteady on your feet.
The accommodation was clean, but carpets were slightly stained & dated (possibly in need of replacement or a good steam clean).
I hope these comments are reciprocated as a positive, as the positives definitely outweigh the negatives at this spectacular, well run family business.
- Angela (7/5): Good - Parking outside our room was a bonus. Lovely balcony with superb view over the bay. The room could do with updating. The pelmet was a different colour and design to the curtains. Looked odd. The tv was tiny and in the wrong position. ( at the side of the bed, rather than in front). Had to move kettle as sat under the tv, dangerous in my mind.
Felt breakfast should have been included in the price.
Bar and restaurant expensive. Feel they take advantage as far away from anywhere else.
Feel staff could have been more welcoming. For a small establishment we would expect a more personal touch.
- Antonia (4/5): Not worth the money paid - tired old and musty - Very tired run down property - great location but I’m sorry the place was just old unclean and musty Old unclean dirty corners carpet dusty and could do with hoovering - bed very small doors hard to open - just. Dry tired and run down
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Katherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelly (9/5): Amazing - The view was amazing, good location
- Elspeth (7/5): Pleasant stay - Location , dining / bar area
Great power in shower / soft towels Place especially bedrooms seemed tired
Bit out of town
- Williams (10/5): Exceptional -
