- Sarah (6/5): Unfortunately Not for Us - Disclaimer: we left early because a few things did not meet our expectations, so we changed accommodation immediately and did not stay there overnight. What we liked: - nice and welcoming owner - good sizw of the room What we did not like: * The accommodation was more remote than expected. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the town, but a large part of the route is along a road without a sidewalk and it is completely dark at night. * There were several wasp nests in the plants on the terrace, which resulted in a lot of wasps around the seating area. * The cleanliness was not at a very high standard, although it was not extremely bad either.

- Diana (10/5): It was the most serene and quiet spot right across from the Flagstaff Hill walking trail. - It had a very well equipped kitchen, a nice private outdoor sitting area, a view of Russell from above and even a heater in the bathroom. Nothing I can think of.

We stayed in the lower apartment. The views were affected by the growth in front of the property. So not quite as clear as indicated in the online photos.

Just a short walk from town and Restaurants, shopping, hiking trails, etc Eating our breakfast on the patio each morning was delightful. The room was well appointed and the bed very comfortable! The host, John was there to greet us and was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this property and would most certainly stay here again.

Netflix und WiFi vorhanden. Küche und Bad auch alles was man braucht. Sehr netter Gastgeber, der uns gute Tipps für Restaurants und zur Umgebung gegeben hat. Morgens sind bei uns immer alle Scheiben wg. Feuchtigkeit angelaufen. Auch durch Lüften und die Lüftung im Bad war es schwierig die Feuchtigkeit weg zu bekommen. Vielleicht lag es jedoch auch am verregnete Tag und ist im Sommer perfekt.

The sundeck with outdoor furniture was such a joy and perfect for relaxation after a busy day sightseeing. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property in the charming little town that is Russell.

- Joanna (9/5): Attractive and comfortable studio apartment - The property is in a quiet location, comfortable and very well heated, including the bathroom. A short climb up the road took us to the sublime view at the top of Flagstaff Hill. The Waitangi Museum is within easy reach via the car ferry from Russell. It would have been helpful to have received information about how to find the street on arrival.

- Dorothy (8/5): Very good - Good location and well presented and clean property but need to be clearer of uphill walk on the way back from town What was provided was v gd BUT need an oven (or combi microwave), only one wine glass, provide a barbecue but no tools or charcoal (make it clear you need to buy them). Impossible to use tv (eg to change volume) unless you can link your mobile. Kitchen not really equipped if you want to cook your own meals (a bowl in the sink would be very useful. Fly screens on all windows. Small things - but would make a big difference overall. Be clear where you put recycling. We really enjoyed our stay but just correcting thee small tings would disproportionately improve the rating

The room was spacious and well-lit, with plenty of storage for our belongings. The electric blanket provided extra warmth on chilly nights, ensuring a restful sleep. From our balcony, we could admire the stunning scenery of the harbour. I had a fantastic time and everything was perfect. It was hard to find any fault.

The actual accommodation was very clean and well laid out with all necessary equipment and supplies. Highly recommend this property if you are visiting the Bay of Islands. Because we are a bit older and have some mobility issues, we weren't keen to tackle the hill so drove down to the town and walked from there - not a major really.

It had everything you could possibly need including a washing machine and dryer. The apartment is located high on a hill above Russell town. It really was too far to walk into town and the road was windy and unlit. Not really a problem unless you are a nervous driver or don't have your own transport. There is only one taxi in town and it wasn't operating when we were there.

Lovely spacious and well appointed room. Everything was fine apart from someone walking backwards and forwards in shoes (or heels) in the room above us on Sunday morning from 5 am to 6 am and we just couldnt sleep - it was very loud. The rest of the time the unit was super quiet.

- Nerida (8/5): We enjoyed our stay, the location was great, all bathroom and kitchen necessities were provided. - The location was good. Shops and restaurants all within walking distance. We stays for 6 nights and found the small bar fridge too small. Also as there were no ceiling fans or insect screens, we had to keep the doors closed, which meant having to have the air conditioner on to circulate the air orherwise the room was quite hot and stuffy. (Larger fridge, ceiling fan and insect screens would have made a huge difference.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sails! We couldn’t work out how to work the stovetop. That’s probably on us though as we were too busy on a tight time budget to contact the hosts for help. Maybe something in the compendium about operating it would be useful.

- Phil (10/5): Perfect start to our holiday! - Located on fringe of Russell, could hear Kiwis calling at night. View of Harbour/ boats from deck. Friendly and helpful owner Difficult to park a car on site, but street parks are readily available.
- Frances (10/5): Exceptional - Set a short distance away from the hustle and bustle of Russell during high season, The Sails was a wonderful location to relax and unwind. The area is spectacular and truly worth visiting. Allow at least two nights to explore the area and to enjoy its gentle pace. Truly it's a very idyllic town with oodles of charm. We were made to feel welcome and the accommodation was spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Thankyou to our welcoming hosts Joan and Vivien. If we were Kiwis, we'd be back (and if we do cross the ditch again and head North, we will be back).
