mobile_randi (9/5): Cute, Comfortable and Quirky - Our room was spacious and comfortable with a full refrigerator and cooking facilities. The property has a great quiet location in centro a few blocks from the busy core of the zocalo and is decorated with abundant tropical foliage. We enjoyed having access to coffee, ice and cold water in the shared central kitchen. We traveled during the hottest time of the year in Oaxaca and appreciated coming back to the refeshing pool. We, and other guests, wished the pool remained open a bit later than 8pm as there were often guests swimming, lounging and relaxing in the pool area at that hour. The pool area never felt crowded and there were plenty of lounge chairs available.

Pedro (2/5): To avoid! - Egg Omelette - breakfast A disappointment, and I sincerely hope that the management of this “hotel” reads this review carefully without assuming it was written by just another unlucky or uninformed guest. I travel extensively around the world and work in this industry. Everything started poorly upon arrival, when not even a simple “welcome” was offered by the person in charge at reception. As we arrived around 1:00 pm, the first thing we were told was that the room was not ready and would only be available at 2:00 pm. Fine, no problem. We then asked if we could use the pool while waiting. “Yes, but on the day of check-out you may only use the pool until 11:00 am – check-out time.” At that point, it already became clear that this stay would not go well. We had just arrived and were immediately met with a defensive attitude, already setting limits related to check-out and pool access. Even more ironic given that our check-out was very early, at 7:00 am, to the extent that we were not even offered breakfast or any alternative — but I’ll get to that. We changed clothes and went to the pool. The pool area had loungers that were completely dirty and stained, showing clear neglect. The little grass that existed was overgrown and clearly had not been cut for weeks. The room was ready shortly after 2:00 pm. To our surprise, as soon as we entered, the air felt heavy, stale, and suffocating — clearly a room that had been closed for hours, if not days. Surreal. And if that was the case, why was the room not given earlier? To avoid “spoiling” guests? I genuinely cannot understand. The room itself was basic and showed no attention to detail. We then enjoyed the city of Oaxaca, which is at an excellent level, vibrant and lively. It is a beautiful city with a modern vibe, full of well-designed new places, great cafés, and interesting restaurants. Breakfast on the top patio overlooking pool and mountains will be your highlight. Close to all the main bars and restaurants of Oaxaca. Towels need replaced, they are warn out. The fact that they were proud of their hotel is obvious. It was situated on a quiet street but only a brief walk to churches,museums and the zocalo. Alison (8/5): Fabulous pool, lovely staff, tasty breakfasts. - The pool was fabulous, the staff lovely, the breakfasts were tasty. The other guests were nice - apart from on the first day a woman refused to let me in and she informed me that ' nowhere in the world was safe.' (Obviously not the fault of the hotel and they came to let me in immediately). Pool was quiet - only one noisy family (same one with the paranoid mother). No other kids which is always a bonus. Tea, coffee and water always available. Like some of the reviews have said, the cheaper inside rooms are dark and gloomy, but they are clean. I don't spend time in the room anyway so it didn't bother me.

The hotel best shampoo and conditioner for my thick curly hair. Secure parking lot but street parking was easy to get. Yummy breakfast on a very cute patio. Room was a little outdated. Service was a little nonchalant. For example, one breakfast nobody would give us forks.

Had to pay to upgrade to a pool view room so we could open a window and get some light. The staff in the front office are not particularly friendly. I asked them for advice on how to get transportation to our next location (Huatulco) and they sent me to the wrong place which caused me a fair bit of a scramble. They simply had incorrect information.

Susan (7/5): Wouldn't stay here again. - We liked the pool & the quiet rooms. Daily housekeeping was very excellent. The included breakfast was uninspiring even though it changed daily. Very indifferent coffee which is disgraceful in Oaxaca. Most of the staff looked bored and unfriendly, except the housekeeping staff. The building is old, atmospheric and clean but it is due for some easy refreshing (all the dark paint!) and not worth the cost they charge.

Mark (10/5): - This is such a nice and well-run hotel. I really enjoyed my week here. The pool is large and surrounded by beautiful flowers. The breakfast was filling and delicious. The staff were all friendly and kind. It is a family run hotel and you can tell, it has very warm atmosphere. The location is great as well, very close to one of my favourite markets in Oaxaca, the Merced, as well as the Museo Textil de Oaxaca. I will definitely be back.

Wilfred (8/5): Friendly, good value and nice location - Great location with a very lovely brunch restaurant right next door. It's about a 15-minute walk to anything a typical visitor would want to go to, including the city centre and the bus terminal with connections across the state. Rooms are a little old-fashioned but quite cute, staff are very nice, breakfast is good - you get to choose one of two rotating items each day - and you'll dine on a terrace overlooking Oaxaca, the pool and the garden. Breakfast may be a bit limited for some, and the mattresses were a little hard. Some workers were tending the garden, which could get in the way of some people. However, I suspect this is seasonal and didn't bother us much. I still think it's good value for money overall.

We asked if it was possible to move to a room overlooking the pool and fortunately, there was a larger room with an outside window. It was a bit more in price, but so well worth it. The staff was very accommodating.

Elaine (9/5): A great stay! - The hotel is brilliantly located in easy walking distance to everything. Gorgeous swimming pool and gardens for restful moments. Comfortable and very secure. We liked the hotel very much. Our rooms were very dark which took a little getting used to. If I stayed again I would ask for a room overlooking the swimming pool.

Jeannine (9/5): Charming old property - The hotel was in a quiet location but close to the main attractions. The building was charming, really pretty with rooms set round a central courtyard. There was complimentary water, tea and coffee available throughout the day and until late evening. The swimming pool was a bonus after long days sightseeing. Oaxaca City is very cold once the sun sets and we were cold in bed, despite using the extra blanket.

bonnie (8/5): Would recommend otherwise - Peaceful and very well maintained with friendly staff, good breakfast and convenient location. Only complaint is my reservation was changed to a more expensive double room that I didn’t need when I asked to be moved to a quiet room on an upper level shortly after booking. I was later told the more expensive room was the only one available but I was not notified or given an option before the change was made. I feel it should have at least been offered at the same price and the difference charged refunded.

Petra (7/5): - Prima lokatie, lekker ontbijt met fruit en daarna kon je elke dag kiezen uit 2 gerechten. Vriendelijk personeel. Mooi zwembad. Wij hadden een kamer met een tweepersoonsbed. Het matras was smal en slecht en deze hebben ze vervangen. Helaas heeft dit niet erg geholpen. Jammer, want voor de rest hebben we een prima verblijf gehad.
Clare Graffy (9/5): Oasis of calm in Oaxaca - We felt lucky to find this little hotel during our travels. Oaxaca is a really interesting place to be but can be very busy. The oasis of calm that was the swimming pool was just what we needed between tours, museum trips, eating out and generally lapping up the atmosphere. The breakfast Terrace overlooking this swimming pool, and the freshly cooked breakfast each morning. The stuff with always helpful, and the atmosphere of the other guests was very friendly. The beds were a bit to firm I almost too enormous. The rooms were a bit dark so it’s worth getting a pool view if you can.

Xavier (1/5): - El dia que me fuí. Dormimos en la habitación Alcatraces por algo mas de 100€ la noche . Tiene poco más de 8 metros cuadrados con acceso al jardin y a la piscina pues está en la planta baja. Se accede a ella por el patio interior del edificio,el que se ve en las fotos y que hace de distribuidor. La sensación al entrar es que estas en un zulo pues para tener intimidad la ventana que da al patio interior así como la puerta acristalada que da a la piscina tienen cortinas fijas que evitan que los huespedes que van a sus habitaciones , la piscina o a desayunar te vean . Esto te quita toda tu intimidad y te obliga a estar encerrado en tu diminuta habitación. Otro tema es el ruido de los huespedes que llegan de noche o se van de madrugada con las maletas. Las conversaciones en la piscina o en el comedor/cocina comunitario pues esto es un bed and breakfast, Con suerte dormirás 5 horas pues estas en medio de toda la actividad del hotel. La cama doble es pequeña, los muebles feos,la televisión apenas con unos pocos canales, la neverita que tambien hace rudio todo el dia . El desayuno bastante simple. El zumo de bote, la fruta te la dan ellos cortadita y es muy escasa. No hay reposteria y te hacen al momento una tortilla. La zona de la piscina queda pequeña si el hotel está lleno como fué nuestro caso. Un público mayoritario de gringos jubilados . Esta fué nuestra experiencia.No nos sentimos nada cómodos y quisimos irnos al dia siguiente pero en recepción nos dijeron que no nos devolvían el dinero. Seguramente hay habitaciones más grandes ,agradables ,con intimidad y confort pero como digo nos dieron la peor habitación del hotel. Si hubiéramos pagado otro precio esta crítica sería distinta pero considero que es una habitación cara para lo que ofrece Y es por lo que valoro nuestra experiencia con un 1. De esta valoración excluyo al personal de recepción y al de limpieza y comedor que fueron muy correctos .
Bart (8/5): Pretty good. - Nice old building in a quiet neighborhood. Nice pool, decent breakfast, super clean. The bed was rock hard. The hotel is in an area with limited pubs. So it wasn’t easy to have a cocktail at night.

Janis (8/5): A peaceful oasis and aesthetically appealing hotel easy walking distance from the sights of Oaxaca - The outdoor area around the pool was a bonus for quiet enjoyment in the sun away from the busy streets Breakfasts. This is less about the hotel and more a statement about Mexican food. The yoghurt provided was highly sweetened. Plain is preferable Bimbo bread toasted is also sweet. Tortillas would be preferable

Sharon (8/5): This place is so clearly well loved, a sanctuary that attracts lovely, chill people. - Immaculately maintained 25-year old property. It’s old world, friendly, a sanctuary that’s unfussy. A beautiful pool and garden, roof-top breakfast is included. Loved this great value, warm place. Location slightly off beaten path but this just got us out exploring more!
Josef Andre (9/5): Beautiful rustic style Mexican stay with a pool in a garden oasis. Absolutely recommended. - The pool, garden, and dinning area provided a beautiful oasis while still being the heart of the central neighborhood and close to everything. It was super safe, we wandered the streets in the evenings free of care. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. The shower was hot with good pressure. We would stay here again for sure. The size of the bed was great, the only challenging thing was that it was very very stiff. Very little movement. Otherwise, everything was great during our stay.

Susan (7/5): Overall disappointing - Convenient, quiet location. Clean. Breakfast adequate - breakfast staff pleasant and helpful. So many rules and signs! You always know a property is down market when they give you the tv / air con control at check in! Uncomfortable beds and pillows.

Leider ist wenig Privatsphäre gegeben, denn die französischen Fenster (Zimmer im EG) gehen zum Pool hin auf - man sitzt daher im Dunkeln (geschlossene Gardinen). Das Frühstück ist sehr enttäuschend! Es gibt zwar Müsli und Joghurt, aber das "Frühstücks-Special" mit Scrambled Egg (Singular! Ein(!) Ei) und einer Scheibe Toast ist sehr mager.
rodrigo (5/5): Good location - It was quiet during the day, few guess and mostly adults. Lots of noise from an outside aircon (I guess)- It wasn't the one from my room, and I woke sup several times at night.(like now 1:31am) Shower water pressure wasn't good . Coffee was not good.
