Guest Reviews
- ZY (10/5): - This must the coziest hostel I've ever stayed at. The host designed the hostel to be very welcoming and home-ly. I can tell the Shingo-san loves running this hostel. I never had a proper conversation with Shingo-san because I'm always out, but he always offer to help or ask if I'm alright. This hostel really deserves all the love. The climb to the hostel. It's a really steep climb. I suggest anyone who's coming from the road, to take the back staircase between The Irish Pub and Nagasaki Bus Terminal. It is much more manageable to carry your luggage via the stairs.
- Stephanie Huang (10/5): -

- JJ (10/5): Brilliant! Lovely host and ideal location - A perfect base for exploring Nagasaki and the surrounding area! The facilities are great, the location is perfect, and the accommodation is super clean. The bike rental service is brilliant too - thank you so much Shingo san for helping us organise a wonderful trip

- JIA-RONG (10/5): Perfect location and wonderful hospitality. - The owner is a local with huge knowledge about Nagasaki, got so many helpful information from him.
And the location is extremely convenient if you come here by train or bus.

- Diana (10/5): Best olace to stay in Nagasaki - Close to station and bus terminal, private cabin, nice common space with with cute souvenires for sale Nothing, everything was good
- Lilah (10/5): Perfect 2 night stay in the heart of nagasaki - Spacious and quaint hostel. Very good facilities. Yummy and economical breakfast is offered
- RIO (7/5): -
- Carl James (8/5):
- leoaleksi (4/5): Would be nice if there was no mold. - The location is very good and the staff was welcoming. The hostel is really suffering from mold. When entering I could feel moist and heavy air. After 15 minutes in the hostel I got my skin, ears, and my throat itchy. I could feel my eyes burn and nose getting runny. I got out of the building for a meal. Symptoms got easier. Then when I got back the symptoms started again. So I could be sure it was the hostel.
I had to get a new place for the following nights right away. Everywhere was expensive so this experience cost me quite a lot. The hostel did not give any money back although I explained what happened and that I know when I find myself in places that have mold and so there was no way I could stay there.
- Yuan (7/5): -
- Edvan (10/5): Quaint hostel with lots of character run by friendly staff. Wish we could have stayed another night! - We had the family room downstairs which comes with 6 beds, a lovely dining and living room, and kitchenette. It was spacious. The place was decorated with all kinds of cute and interesting items and pictures. There were 3 ladies running the cafe upstairs and they were all so friendly and warm.

- Olivier (10/5): - still don’t understand how anyone could give this place a lower review than 10 stars… really kind employees and all very helpfull! private and comfortable room. couldn’t wish for a better stay in nagasaki
- Walden (10/5): - I liked how right in the center it was. So easy to get to the whole city
- Fosvib (9/5): -
- Niamh (8/5): - The owners were super lovely, very helpful at recommending things to do and very interesting people to talk to. We loved our stay and would recommend this place to anyone. There is limited space for bags unfortunately.
- Budi (8/5): -
- Nel Finberg (8/5): Charming and unique small hostel near train and bus stations - This is a very charming, small and unique hostel across from and with great views of the Twenty-Six Martyrs Museum and Monument. Rooms are accessible by climbing a narrow staircase to the second floor (one above the reception and lounge). There are something like 6 or 8 small cubicles that are comfortable enough, but would not be if they were shared with another party. Each room has a small bed with lumpy mattress and narrow shelf; there is a upper shelf that in theory houses a second person; if there are two people in a room, it would become extremely difficult to pack your things away, due to the lack of space. There is a small lamp over the bed and electrical plug, as well as fan in the room. Privacy is afforded by means of a plastic curtain that runs across the fronts of the cubicles. There is a narrow atrium you can sit in and eat food prepared in the small kitchenette, facing the martyr's monument. There is a also a tiny shared toilet and shower. Very friendly staff. Hostel is effectively next to bus station and train station. Cramped - lack of space to put your things is a big challenge.
- .Beata (4/5): - Staff seemed nice, though I didn't have much interaction with them. It was also concenient that check in time was 12 which is earlier than most other places. Basically this place is good only for those who either don't need sleep or can sleep anywhere. The mattress was horrible (could feel every single spring in it) and there's absolutely no sound/light isolation. The 'rooms' are in the same space as the 'kitchen' and the bathroom area. Someone checked in past midnight and was microwaving their food. Someone else was blowdrying their hair around 1am. Basically there was action till at least 2 am. I've stayed in many hostels and I always have earplugs/eye mask but these were of no help here. In this kind of set up the staff has to either impose restrictions after which time there should be no use of facilities or come up with better sound-proofing solutions. Oh and the doors are horrendous too, make so much noise! Small detail and not super important but I think this was the first hostel that didn't offer free tea/coffee.
- fujita (6/5): -
- Jonas (10/5): -
- yukari (10/5): -
- Galih (8/5): Very good -
- Patou (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Very kind staff, well located and very comfortable All good
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luuk (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eric (9/5): Superb -
- Karl (7/5): Not the best choice for a family - There is a large dining/ kitchen area with a large table that is separable from the bedroom. There are games and great coffee making facilities. The heater worked well Staff were lovely and helpful The family room is in the basement of the property and although they try to make the place comfortable, it still feels like a bunker. It was a bit dank when we arrived. The Beds are a bit creaky and noisy. The toilet is outside the room and you have to exit the room and pass the stairs up to get to the toilet. the toilet is basic compared to most Japanese facilities! In hindsight I would have paid more and gone somewhere else
- Joe (9/5): Charming, welcoming and comfy place to stay near Nagasaki Station - Very cute place to stay. The cafe area is lovely (try the muffins!), the beds are basically little rooms so are very private and comfy, and the owners were so kind and welcoming. There are lots of interesting travel guides and books to read on the shelves. Sink area was small and cramped for so many people to use. Not much space to store bags and clothes when there are two people in a bunk room.
- Xavier (10/5): Exceptional - Very kind and generous owners! The place has everything you need, beds are super comfortable and they rent very great bikes! The location is perfect, the views on the rooftop are quite good also!
- Vlado (8/5): Very good -
- Kerwin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Manuel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Yucheng (7/5): Tiny but comfortable - Tiny but comfortable.
Spacious bed with extra storage space on top.
Mini kitchenette is also a plus. The only restroom and wash basin space is really tiny and barely fits one person. They are shared by 5 people (if full).
There is no washlet in the only restroom which is a minus, If this matters to you.
Also the stairway up and down is narrow. Carrying big luggage up and down isn't easy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
(9/5): Superb -
- Gabriel (9/5): Superb - Great staff, they were very kind and recommended locations which I was not unable to go to during my first visit to Nagasaki. The breakfast sandwich and mikan juice was tasty. The hostel is quite charming The walk back to the hostel, when you are tired or drunk is sometimes a hassle, but I am just nitpicking
- Damon (9/5): Superb -
- Viktoria (10/5): Exceptional - It's a really cute hostel with lovely owners and friendly vibe. We stayed a bit longer in the lounge after check in to do some laptop admin and the owner was so accommodating. Her husband gave us lots recommendations for places to visit too 😊
- Martin (9/5): Superb - Great cute little place nicely located nearby station and easy to walk to all the main sites.
- Yoko (6/5): - Nice, clean, but living area on the same sleeping room is difficult to do anything.
There is only one small shower and sink for all of us. Also it’s situated on top of the hill, and there is a place where 26 Christians were executed in front of the hostel. We can see the all view from the window, no escape. I was scared,
- Zuzanna (10/5): I recommend! - Our little ’room’ was really comfortable. We are two people travelling with backpacks, and there was just enough space to open them. I guess that would not be possible with a suitcase.
I slept really good, it was comfortable. I recommend to eat delicious breakfast in the cafe!
We also used a washing machine on the roof, it was just fine. There is only one shower and one toilet for everyone (I guess it means for max 10 people). If someone will stay up late at night or get up early you will hear everything.
- Victor (10/5): - The hosts, Nana, and his wife were great. Another staff Miva, was super lovely. It's a good place for a solo traveler or couple to stay. It was convenient to walk to the train station, bus station, and many other dining places. I also had a good time talking to other guests. You get a private room though it is tiny. You can lock the door and go. I would stay again!
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Debra (8/5): A great handy stay. Lived it. - It’s a great place. They do a great job!
It was clean, organized and efficient. Well thought out and workable. Just for us, at our age, and having knee issues it was. But tough. Bit their fault. These issues cropped up after our long flight. But we enjoyed it and it was a pleasant experience.
- Tobias (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fatimah (9/5): Superb - The owner is helpful and the overall stay is satisfactory.
Toilet is clean.
Self cleaning if you use dishware.
Near to the Expressway bus but take a detour to use the hills if you have large luggage. For small luggage or bagpacker can use the stair infront the bus station.
Intercity bus and tram is walking distance 5mins
There is a mall infront of the stay as well. No bidet in the toilet.
Not suitable for large luggage as the room located at 3rd floor but luckily the owner help us during that time.
- Antoine (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice atmosphere and the landlady was very helpful for recommendations. The beds had ample space and there was a common space to easily talk to other travelers.
(6/5): Pleasant -
- John (10/5): - Shingo and nana, who own and operate the cafe and hostel, are genuine community builders. When you stay at ROUTE, you become a part of their community. If you don't know what that means, they will teach you :)
prepare for a beautiful and caring experience in their property and in Nagasaki, with their guidance.
- Walter (10/5): Nagasaki , 3 nights at Route - Super friendly and helpful staff, great location close to train and railcar.
Excellent breakfast for Y800.
Comfortable Small cabin rooms were great ,they are not really pods/capsules beds. All good, nothing to dislike.
- Saito (9/5): Superb -
- Jenny (7/5): Good - New, clean, modern and the hosts were very friendly Everything was in one room, common space, kitchen, bathroom, beds.... you could always hear what everyone was doing, which made it hard to sleep. The space would probably be better as an airbnb for one group
- Maurits (10/5): Exceptional - Very lovely and clean hostel, you get your own little cabin which was surprisingly big. The host was very nice, also prepared a cute breakfast. It was also very convenient that you could rent bikes immediately from the Hostel, they had the best collection of rental bikes I've seen in Japan, also the first time I had a rental bike that was not too small for me since I'm quite tall. E-bike is recommended as Nagasaki has many hills and you will get around much faster and with less sweat. If I come again to Nagasaki I will be coming back to Route.
- Max (10/5): Nice relaxing place for up to a week of staying. - We loved staying at route. We had a cabin that we could lock. Every amenity we needed they had. The breakfast we delicious and very relaxing. The staff was super helpful and gave us some insider tips about Nagasaki. We would have loved to use the (very cheap) bike service but it was Raining too much.
Overall I would 10/10 stay again! Only downsides are the hike from the station. It’s very close but a bit up the hill.
Also the place is a bit cramped but it’s manageable.
- David (10/5): Awesome economic place to stay in Nagasaki! - Location great - right near Nagasaki Station (albeit some steps up). Very friendly! Bed was closer to a private room than a hostel bed - albeit with nice shared bathroom. Great place to stay in Nagasaki! Nothing in particular!
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - Lovingly designed, cozy hostel with attention to detail. You immediately feel at home. The five available beds are in individual cabins, so there is a relatively high level of privacy. Incredibly nice owners, who also have recommendations for the neighbourhood. Good breakfast can be booked a day in advance. As is often the case with hostels - sometimes noisy. The toilet and shower unit is in the same room as the bed units, which is impractical because you might wake up the whole room if you have to get up early.
Would still come back in a heartbeat.
- Antoine (9/5): Superb - Close to the train station and the streetcar station.
The staff was helpful.
Confortable bed and clean bathroom
- Nattakrit (8/5): Nice place for solo traveler -
- Hampus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Austin (8/5): Very good -
- Rachel (9/5): Beautiful space to stay in - This place was petite and delightful. I loved the architecturally designed layout, very compact yet it fit in so much. The design was inspiring for creating beautiful places. It managed to be communal yet also suitably private. The staff were very helpful, especially accepting luggage prior to check in. I would stay here again if I was in the area.
- Renata (10/5): Exceptional - I like the location, but mainly the owners - they are very friendly and polite. Arigato gozaimas
- Margaret (8/5): Quaint hostel - Greeted very kindly and felt very welcomed. The map with different walking routes was a bonus. Bed was comfortable. Pleasantly surprised to have a view of a church inspired by Gaudi just outside the window. At night I found noise travelled and found there was too much light. Also not enough seating in the shared area.
- Mohammad_87 (10/5): Exceptional -
- STEPHEN (10/5): - One of my favorite hostels Ive stayed in Japan! You stay right above their cafe, which is very close to Nagasaki Station.
- Lise (9/5): Superb -
- Jose (10/5): Very welcoming, you’d love to spend hours there. - The cafe was very cozy and welcoming. Good to have a coffee while chatting with other guests. Also each floor was very nice, with some tables to have a drink quietly. I also liked a lot that each bed as actually isolated from the rest, giving extra intimacy That I only spend one night there.
- Annabel (10/5): wonderful, very beautiful place to come home to, easy to find and close to the station - so pretty and comfortable
- Dejan (8/5): A cute hostel - The location is very convenient, just a 5 minute walk to the bus terminal and less than 10 minutes to the railway station. The hostel is nicely decorated and has many brochures about sights to visit in Nagasaki and surrounding areas. Check in was easy and available in the after hours. Breakfast was delicious although not included in the price. I think some clear house rules should be established. Is it normal that people are using the hairdrier at midnight when other guests wish to sleep?
- Osmond (10/5): Exceptional -
