- carl (10/5): Relaxing in a hidden gem - So stunning! Perfect location! Amazing perfect! Sauna and onsen!
- Jayne (10/5): Keep returning to this beautiful home - We travel to Japan regularly and seek out places that feel authentic and a little under the radar—Iori Stay in Hida Furakawa is exactly that. This was our third stay.
The house is thoughtfully designed, incredibly comfortable, and has a stunning bathroom overlooking the canal and historic sake brewery it’s one of our favourite places to stay.
A rare find we’ll keep returning to.

- kyung soo (9/5): highly commend!! - very well refined restored traditional warehouse. excellent japannese breakfast. various drinks(beer.sake) all for free. friendly and helpful staff. bathroom and toilet temperature is low(in march).
- Konasugawa (10/5): -
- Kyung Hoon (9/5): We had a lovely stay. - It was beautiful! Nothing
- Pauline (10/5): - Superbe appartement

- Damien (10/5): Magical - We had the most wonderful host, Shiho, awaiting us at the property. Communication prior to arrival has been very smooth through the Booking app with her. We were well received, had a perfect welcome with everything well explained. Also during our stay, we could always reach out to Shiho for follow up questions and would receive a reply almost instantly. Brilliant experience and anyone staying in that region I would recommend staying at this beautiful property. Such a hidden gem, perfectly situated outside the touristy areas (Takayama etc). We loved everything.
- L (10/5): Everything was PERFECT!! - You could find everything you need - all kitchen utensils, seasonings, washing machine, detergent and even skincare. The house was spacious, very clean and well equipped. They even prepared snacks and drinks for us - all for free. The staff who received us was super friendly. The bathtubs and sauna were superb!!! Such a great deal at this price with 5-star hotel quality. Would be perfect if there was body lotion... or did i miss that?

- Laura (10/5): Incredible stay with excellent customer service! - We had an absolutely fantastic stay at this beautiful Japanese-style town house. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.
We stayed in Hida and really loved being a little further out than Takayama. It felt more peaceful and less touristy, which made the experience even more relaxing and authentic, while still being close enough to easily visit the busier areas when we wanted to. We were lucky enough to visit in Winter and see the magical snow which made the view of the temple from our main room beautiful.
The house itself was spacious, comfortable, and full of traditional charm, giving us a truly authentic experience while still feeling like a home away from home. Everything was thoughtfully prepared, including a well-stocked fridge, amazing outdoor spa bath which was such lovely after a long day of travelling.
The beds were comfortable, the space was peaceful, and we felt relaxed and cared for throughout our stay. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay in Japan and would happily return. Highly recommended!
- Claudia (9/5): -
- Eri (10/5): Absolutely extraordinary stay! - The location, distance from the train station, the property were all stunning! We especially appreciated the amenities that included the local products. Would have been great to have a wc upstairs.
- Joonho Hong (10/5): -
- Žan (10/5): -
- MAC HUANG (10/5): -
- Micheal (9/5): -
- Marcel (10/5): Molt còmoda, agradable i confortable - Tota la casa, habitacions, onsen, … Res

- Kathryn (10/5): Beautiful town, lovely accommodation and great stay - Beautifully clean, great service and perfect location It had a few items that we struggled to figure out how to use even with instructions. I think they were instructions maybe for Japanese people who understood the basics of that equipment but was a bit confusing for us a foreigners.
- Lim (10/5): Good location, good bath, easy check in - This is a beautiful machiya lodging right in front of the white walled stonehouse district which gives us a great view of the beautiful street and canal. The check in process is super simple and we were greeted with the friendliest staff which provided us with a lot of recommendation of places to check out . The bedroom is very comfortable and the bath is amazing as well. We did not get the dinner plan but the traditional japanese breakfast that we were served were delicious. The neighbors were also super friendly and gave us a couple of mikans It is a machiya house so the walls is thin and you can sometimes hear the neighbors footsteps but generally it is pretty quiet most of the time
- Robin (10/5): -
- Hiu Ching (10/5): I would definately choose to stay here again if visiting 飛驒市, it is so worthy to even drive 20 mins from高山 to stay in th - The staff popped up in few minutes to arrange the check in for us, even we suddenly showed up 6 hours earlier which is unexpected to him.
Patiently explained everything in the room for us. Spent sometime to search for the building , I think house number could be more obvious but I guess it is just not to ruin the outlook of the building
- Henry (8/5): - Revamp of the old house was done thoughfully, preserving original character while creating interesting space for modern living. Temperature of the onsen baths, in particular outdoor one, is not hot enough.
- Christian (10/5): -
- Philip (9/5): I’m would defiantly recommend IORI Stay. The charming house was delightful to live in. - Breakfasts were excellent. Location could not have been better. The design of the house was very well done. The terrace was perfect for evening drinks. The heating on the Ground Floor was poor. We could not get the room warm. English instructions for using the aircon controller would have been very helpful. Thankfully there was a small electric heater but it was not enough to keep the room warm.
- Jamie (10/5): Beautiful and peaceful stay - Our stay was essentially a ryokan stay with flexibility since we were able to eat dinner wherever we wanted, but had breakfast conveniently delivered in the morning. The property itself was beautifully appointed and I aspire my next home to have this same aesthetic. The bathroom had included wonderfully scented products. It was probably the best night of sleep on our Japan trip because the bed was so comfortable. The location was close to everything we wanted to see and eat in Hida. Nothing, it was a wonderful stay!
- mayumi (8/5): -
Solo deseo poder volver alguna vez. Nada, fue todo excelente!
- Kathryn (10/5): This is the best property we have ever stayed at. - Absolutely gorgeous property with so many thoughtful touches. The huge bath was unforgettable, the beds were comfortable, the verandah was beautiful and the staff were extremely polite and helpful. We really appreciated the washing machine and the drinks provided. We loved everything.
- Kristian (10/5): Wonderful stay in Furukawa - Absolutely loved it. The house was wonderful and the location was just perfect. The town of Hida Furukawa is definitely worth a visit and we would love to come back. Nothing
- Sophie (10/5): Just fabulous! Can’t fault! - We had a wonderful stay here! Such a beautiful home to stay in, the staff were extremely helpful and kindly organised dinner reservations for us (highly recommend Sen- delicious!!). Great location and in gorgeous wee town.
- Rachel (10/5): - This is a very nice unit, with thoughtful amenities and gifts. We were very comfortable. The bathing room made us sad to leave. I love the huge wooden tub. It is close to the train station and there are good restaurants in easy walking distance. I wish there were a second toilet upstairs, next to the bathing room. The stairs are steep, and not easy to negotiate if you're disabled. It makes using the toilet in the middle of the night a bit difficult.
- Gerard (10/5): - Lights in the stairway kept turning off and on even though they were turned off manually, multiple times. It was a little frightening.
Rien
- Mark (9/5): - Quite neighbourhood with great places to walk and explore the town.
- THOMAS (10/5): Beaatiful apartment in the best part of town. - This apartment is on the most scenic street in town and is close to restaurants. Free parking is a short walk away. The breakfast was great, with lots of different flavors and variety of food. The tub/shower was modern and convenient. Make sure to eat the Hida beef at Sen Teppan Yaki Sushi restaurant. Need reservations in advance! Also the Okinawan food at Dining Shoen (has a variety of names) was fantastic. Need reservations in advance! Sound proofing not great. Could hear neighbors loud footsteps next door, and their tub draining water at end of their bath. Also the bathroom and bedroom are separated by a flight of stairs. We were fine, but for some, it could be an issue.
- Robert (10/5): A wonderful property in a perfect spot. - A wonderful new property with everything you can dream inside.
Super clean , awesome amenities , awesome location on the most beautiful street.
Highly recommended. The breakfast. The breakfast was brought to our unit at 08:00 as asked. Everything was packed in 2 boxes.
I personally think that the breakfast was not good at all.
But not a real problem. A lot of cafes outside.
God frokost. Veldig gode madrasser og dyner. Badekaret ute i bakhagen var ren luksus.
- Stephen (10/5): a wonderful experience in a wonderful venue. - Location was amazing. Everything was just perfect. My wife's experience at the spa was also excellent. A toilet on the upper floors! 🙂.
- Liz (7/5): Felt like an authentic Japanese town house experience - Breakfast was delicious Japanese style. Property situated along a beautiful street overlooking the temple.
Futons for sleeping were very comfortable Outside bath are had air cooler device which slightly spoilt the look
- Xanthe (10/5): Amazing house would highly recommend. Go for the walk up to the waterfalls. Beautiful! -
- Yoshihiro (9/5): -
- Maria Belen (9/5): Magnífico alojamiento, con una atención impecable. - La atención por parte del anfitrión, la casa en sí, renovada, limpia y muy bien equipada;
- Zhenzheng (10/5): Wonderful Japanese house, totally recommend - Amazing house, it has everything you might need, the host is super thoughtful. Quick walk from station, breakfast is delicious.
- Matsutani (10/5): -
- Patrick (10/5): This is really feeling how to live like a local but with service of a B&B -

- Jesús (10/5): -
- Alison (10/5): Relaxing stay in delightful guesthouse. - Beautifully designed, centrally located in atmospheric old streets. Quiet place, comfortable beds and sofa, attentive and helpful staff. Delicious breakfast! For me, the pillows were too soft, but that’s just a personal thing. Everything else was wonderful.
- Serena (10/5): Honeymoon - Such a beautiful place!! We absolutely loved it! It was perfect for our honeymoon and we are so pleased to have ended up in Hida Furukawa as it was our favourite place. So quiet and pretty for strolling around, great places to eat and nice shops. Enjoyed more than Takayama but lucky to see both. The koy fish in the streams were lovely to see too. The staff here were amazing, always ready to help via message and very kind. The house was a luxury for us, lots of space and comforts for the two of us and the big outdoor bath was so relaxing. We would definitely stay again Loved everything!
- Carolin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): It was incredibly relaxing, and I’m very glad we chose to stay here. - Everything was so comfortable and relaxing. The bath was so nice, and the wood is beautiful. The view of the fish stream is amazing, and the kitchen facilities are very nice. The kind lady (host perhaps?) who checked us in was incredibly friendly and so nice to us. We enjoyed chatting with her. Maybe hut could have been nice to have a second toilet on the 2nd or 3rd floors, but otherwise I wouldn’t change anything!
- Miles (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place, wonderful and kind host, very high quality furnishings and its like new inside.
Host made dinner reservations for us, and gave us kind gifts. Be aware that some of the pictures in the listing are for other properties!
- Adam (10/5): Highly recommend. - Beautifully renovated town house in a superb location in stunning Hida Furakawa.
Treats in the fridge were a bonus.
Nao was so helpful with restaurant recommendations and bookings and changing breakfast times. Had dinner at Sen on her advice, which had excellent food in a casual bar environment.
- Jamesh1979 (10/5): Don't ask questions, just book now. - This property is amazing. The staff are brilliant. They booked us in for a Yakiniku dinner and nice touches like providing fish food for the Koi really complete the package. We're already planning our next visit to Hida-Furukawa to take in the brilliant atmosphere and friendly hospitality.
- Sarah (10/5): Lovely spot with comfy beds and helpful hosts thankyou - Lovely convenient location. Comfy beds, little kitchenette with supplies if coffee tea and a few welcome gifts Nothing
- Boon (9/5): Superb -
- Agnieszka (8/5): Very good - The apartament was beautiful, clean and had every amenity you could think of and then some more. The contact before the stay was very good. The only thing I didn’t like was how special requests were handled - firstly, I asked for the breakfast on the second day to be delivered one hour early (and I put the request weeks before the stay) and I was assured it was possible, however, the breakfast was delivered on this day at the usual time. Secondly, on the day of the arrival I asked about the possibility of early check-in and the answer was that they will message me when the room would be ready… which turned out to be exactly at the „standard” check-in time. Again, these are special requests and I realize this is not a given, however, if it was known that these things couldn’t be done I would greatly appreciate knowing it in advance so that I could plan accordingly.
- Loic (10/5): Dreamed hapanese experience - Super sophisticated, amazing experience, nice house. Comfy bed.
- Mindaugas (10/5): Exceptional - This was by far the highest modern quality+authenticity stay in Japan. Highest praise to the owners! No washing machine
- Jonathan (10/5): Cute house in center of town. - We stayed in ichinomachi. It was a lovely house. The beds were amazing. Super comfy. House was was well stocked. Everything we needed. Great area..we really liked this small town. The people were some of the loveliest in all of Japan. No bathroom upstairs where the bedrooms are, so not good for elderly or small children. .
- Shyrene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Meredith (10/5): Perfect stay in a beautiful place, great hospitality - Beautiful property in a very authentic place. The owner left us lots of treats and surprise since we were celebrating a birthday. This does not go un noticed and made such an impression. He explained everything about the town and the next town nearby, offers to help with reservations for dinner, and gives you all info needed in a very organized way.
The futon was the most comfortable ive had so far and the duvet is amazing. Everything is of high quality. I loved the pajamas and all the little extra amenities that makes it feel like a hotel. He even leaves bath salts for soaking. I was able to check in slightly early which was very nice too ..
Dinner recommendations were great, and the bakery nearby has the best mochi i have tried so far
Everything was perfect and i highly recommend.

The facilities were AMAZING, every single thing you could ever need was already thought of and prepared for you already.
The location was absolutely perfect aswell, basically in the centre of town but on a lovely quiet street.
The host was so wonderful and helpful and because of her suggestions we went to a really great izakaya with some of the best izakaya food I’ve tried in such a long time!
I woke up to a beautiful snowy view outside the window of the western style bedroom I felt emotional! (Image attached) Nothing at all. It was perfect!

- Alison (10/5): A Tranquil Oasis in the Heart of Hida - From the moment we stepped into Iori Yamaguchi, we were transported to a world of tranquility and elegance. This townhouse is a masterpiece of Japanese aesthetics, with every detail meticulously considered. Our own little sanctuary of comfort, it was impeccably clean and beautifully appointed. Stunning Japanese furniture showcasing the renowned tradition of carpentry in Hida, and a most fabulous en-suite bathroom with a gorgeous soaking tub created a truly luxurious atmosphere.
Our host, Chitose, could not have done more for us to make our stay perfect. From restaurant recommendations and bookings to ensuring the kitchen was stocked with complimentary Japanese treats and beverages that again showcased local producers, Chitose's attention to detail was exceptional.
The breakfast delivered in the morning was delicious, with the wonderful presentation that only the Japanese can do.
A true gem and highly recommended for anyone seeking an authentic and unforgettable Japanese experience. Wished we had stayed longer. :)
- Katie (10/5): Luxury, comfort, style, perfect for our honeymoon. - Huge amount of space. Stunning bathroom. Indoor bath, outdoor bath, sauna, beautiful shower, Dyson hair dryer. Great location. The staff left local gifts and treats- not usually a big fan of sweets and treats but they were absolutely delicious. After 5 days in busy Tokyo it was so nice to get out of the city and into this beautiful place. Pillows on the bed were very fluffy and comfy, but it would have been nice to have ones that a bit more supportive as an option.
- Leonie (10/5): Hida is a once (or more) in a lifetime must visit, number one on my list of places I have now visited throughout the wor - Great location in Hida’s most beautiful streets with canal right out the front. Great outdoor hot tub to soak your travelling bones! Just perfect with plenty of room a home away from home and extremely clean with great personal products for your use.
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - The property provided an authentic Japanese experience with modern amenities. The staff also thoroughly explained all we need to know on how to use the amenities as well as nearby recommended places to eat/visit.
- Christopher (10/5): Beautiful place to stay in the best location possible. - Location. Location. Location. Beautiful place. Easy. Everything we needed.
- Robert (10/5): A very relaxed and comfortable way to enjoy Japanese smaller town living. - Iori Yamaguchi has a great location in the old part of Hida village. It has been very tastefully renovated using high quality materials. The light wood tone is refreshing. Beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was well fitted with a very nice wooden bath. It is a pleasant drive to Hida Takayama which is a really enjoyable town to walk around and enjoy the history. The Manager called in to explain everything about the property and the places of interest and we really appreciated that. The only thing to mention is that the washroom / toilet is on the ground floor and the two bedrooms are on the first and second floor. This was not a problem for our party though!
- Pradeepa (10/5): Beautiful stay: heritage town, mountain views and great hospitality! - We stayed in Iori Tonomachi in Hida Furukawa. I had been looking at properties in Takayama but wasn't satisfied until I saw this stay in neighbouring Furukawa. It was stunning in the pictures so we decided to book 5 nights, as a family of three (including a 1 year old).
The place is so well located by the canal, it was like stepping into a piece of history. The area is well maintained and was beautiful with the autumn leaves and koi carp, the setting couldn't have been more perfect. The house itself is warm and inviting and well designed, as well as well equipped with everything we needed. Extra touches such as blinds in the bedroom and bathroom, and a projector which we used for movies, made things even more intimate. The beds were wide and comfortable, and the bathtub was very special.
All throughout the stay we felt connected to the wider Hida community. We had greeting gifts of local miso crackers and mouthwatering daifuku, as well bath salts and local spring water. We went back to the shops for more! We were greeted by a member of staff, and they and others remained connected throughout our stay to ensure we had places to eat for lunch and dinner, making reservations for us and organising our luggage forwarding.
Our days started off with traditional breakfast sets hand delivered by a sweet lady who even brought a gift for our baby. They were so yummy and differed day to day. We asked for Japanese meals for our entire stay and they accommodated this request.
We parked in the city hall car park which was a short walk away. We didn't mind this as we could stroll through the neighbouring Buddhist temple and festival square. We looked forward to returning to Furukawa after our trips, and getting to know the town. We miss it a lot already!
The town of Furukawa itself is quiet and artistic, the woodwork is especially of note.
