Jearold (8/5): Government guidelines - Family wished it was more to do, but understand Covic19 restrictions. We made the best out of what was available.
Kendra (4/5): Make it a better stay for your customers. - Checked us into dirty room, so asked for another one, said they would work on it, three hours later I asked about cleaning the room because still no new room then they said cleaning crew was gone. So I demanded new room and finally got an upgrade.

The room as my clean, the floor was sticky so we switched rooms, had to send our steak back twice and didn’t get the broccoli that was supposed to come with the meal. The slides weren’t open in the water park and no one mentioned that to us. My kids love the water slides so that was disappointing. Half the games in the arcade didn’t work. And the jetted tub in the room, the jets were filthy, I wouldn’t let my daughter take a bath. We had a standard room. I expected this stay to live up my the same expectations of my last stay a couple years ago I suppose.

Waited an hour and went back to check and was told it still wasn't ready. Couldn't check in until 5:45 and they never did call me. Then when I asked if they would then give me an hour late check out for the inconvenience I was told no because the room was booked for later that night. The arcade was hit and miss if something worked. Nothing opened until 10 am and checkout was at 11.

Sonja (2/5): Don't go to Hart mi - Had it all planned out to surprise my boys with a weekend Double JJ Resort for sonsbday... Get there get checked in, get sent to our"room" that was supposed to be a loft room with a kitchen living room n all... Get there and it's a filthy tiny cabin with no TV WiFi or anything 2 miles away from the resort in the woods ...which was not what I reserved😤 go drive all the way back to the office to tell them, they send me to another cabin, again not what I reserved and that mug was dirty too SMH. So they told us we can just leave we leave and now Santiago's bday is ruined smfh I'm so upset. They didn't offer an apology or anything smfh all my money went into that I tried to book another room at the dunes and was met with a traumatizing experience. We just had the scariest experience ever the whole time we go outside to smoke n I see a person in the white mask and then he’s gone and I know what I saw so we say we’re going to go inside and tell the kids we got to leave because somebody gets Covid because we don’t want to scare them....but we didn’t even have to give them a reason as soon as we walk back into the room and said we were gonna leave they jumped up and we’re ready to go...so we all start packing our stuff and somebody starts banging on the windows and hiding so we took off n drove back home.... Scared all of us SMH... we get here and I called the hotel to tell them I left my laptop and that we left because somebody was banging on our windows and scaring us She laughed
Verified traveler (2/5): - We checked in and check out the same day. 137 a night is not worth it at the Lodge. It felt like I was at a red roof or motel 6. We walked into the hotel room and felt super uncomfortable. We had a door that opened into the next room, the bathroom tub was dirty, and it wasn’t worth the $300 I paid for 2 nights. So we ended up checking out the very same night and drove an hour down and spent the weekend in Grand Rapids.

We cant wait for our next trip once the water slides open up, we will feel much more confident going in there and understanding how the resort works.

We had to spray for several hours & open windows to remove the smell. The upstairs bathroom floor had hair everywhere on it. The heat in the bottom room suite did not work. It was a sauna of heat upstairs and freezing downstairs. The TVs are very outdated we couldn’t plug up anything with a hdmi cable. And I was very disturbed that the upstairs area did not have a television. The kids had to use my laptop to watch television.

I will never go there again.

Mandy (8/5): Manager doesn't care - The room was very nice and clean. Staff was very friendly. This was a work outing I booked, so we had a lot planned. Everything went great until Sunday when we went to ride horses. Our booked appointment was for 10:45 am, they were running a little behind, not a big deal...at 11:30 am we finally got on our horses. A 1 hour ride turned into less than 30 minutes. We had to turn around because a child was having a tough time with a horse. When we got back we were told out ride was over. Why? The child wasn't with us and we paid for an hour and waited an EXTRA hour for our scheduled appointment. The horse that wouldn't stop eating (Cheyenne) my daughter rode on the trip before this 1, I was with her. We had 13 people, so we had to go in 2 groups. Our guide was super nice, she said they were going to put the horse up and not have anyone else ride her, because she would not go or stop eating...then they tried to use her on the next scheduled trip, to which the horse did the same thing to someone else. I called and left a message on the managers voicemail 2 days ago...still waiting for a call back. Not sure I would ever go again, as to me it seems they just want your money. We stayed 2 nights and had 2 rooms, rode the bull, went to the little water park, and played mini golf. We spent PLENTY of money and to be ignored when I have a valid complaint is ridiculous.

We also ran into another family that said they did the same to them.

However, certain activities and areas (karaoke, saloon, general store, etc) were listed in the paperwork we received at checkin were not open as listed. The cleanliness of the cabin was mediocre at best and the water from both the shower and bathroom sink smelled absolutely horrendous. The outdoor water park was FILTHY.

Belicia (2/5): - We go to double jj a lot. But I've never had a worse experience anywhere than I did last Friday to Sunday here. My friends and I got a cabin, got there and the place stunk bad, had someone else's old trash and dirty dishes in the sink and dish washer, the fridge didn't work, only had hot water in one bathroom, no sheets in our bedroom,the check in service was just awful, they said everything is open but that wasn't true. So we called right away to let the service desk know of our issues in the cabin, they said they would send someone out, but nobody came. So we kept calling, always informed they would send someone out. They never did! So I went down there myself, took a whole HOUR to wait in line just to tell them about this. They said to my face they'd send someone to our cabin with the things we need and to clean up. They never came so we cleaned it ourselves and had to take sheets and blankets from an extras drawer, which isn't a big deal but we still shouldn't have had to. They finally came at 11:30 pm with JUST sheets, no blankets or pillows. So we called in the morning AGAIN, said someone would come out they never did, they said "I'm physically handing them to our maintenance worker to bring it to you right now and if it's not to you in 20 minutes I will bring it myself", obviously never came. We weren't able to talk to management or resolve anything until Sunday morning, the day we left. Absolutely awful. We paid WAY too much for that kind of service.

Verified traveler (2/5): Dissatisfied - 1 single person taking care of the coffee shop, souvenir shop and the bull rides! Therefore i had to wait 30 mins for a coffee and by the time I got it was all cold !!.....i waited 2 hours to get my cabin and not enough toilet paper, NO wi-fi and no personnel either at the little old town where the outdoor water park is, no one to offer info on how to get to the cabins and no one to tell you where pony rides were.
Joe (6/5): Incorrect info from the start - We called at 11am and asked about early check-in and the indoor water park. We were told that we would be able to do both at 12 noon when we arrived. When we got there the girl behind the counter said they made a mistake and we couldn't check in until 2pm. When we asked for the water park passes they told us the park had been closed for COVID. This should have been explained when we booked the rooms as well as when we called an hour before arriving. We were also given a map to our room with the wrong building highlighted as our building, so we wandered around in the heat for 20 minutes before we made it to our room. My brother's room had diarrhea in the toilet. He called the front desk 3 times to get it cleaned before finally doing it himself.
Edward (4/5): So sad, just lower your expectations.. - Not so good. Aniquated rooms, small television, pools facilities very disappointing, few water slides and dark and dingy. Great place 30 years ago, could really use a major makeover. Location was merely o.k., though out in the countryside. Could be so much better if some effort was given by the management and brought into this century..
Emily (6/5): - Despite online hours being listed and updated for coronavirus everything was pretty much closed at 5pm. With check-in being 4pm it didn’t make sense to stay there. Weren’t offered the ride up to the main area for breakfast either. Cabin was very nice but no WiFi as listed on the cabin list and there was no cable wire to the living room tv. My daughter left her stuffed bear from her grandma and no one called me back but when I called it “wasn’t found” so with all that I wouldn’t go there again and pay over $300 just to be in the woods.

Verified traveler (6/5): NOT what was expected, but made the best of it! - We wanted to enjoy some family time for a reasonable amount and that was one of the reasons why we booked through hotels.com. We did enjoy ourselves, but were surprised that the water-park was not included in the price of the hotel stay because we booked it through Hotels.com. We did look on the website of Double JJ Resort to get more info about the facility, and were still quite surprised. So it turned out to be more expensive overall then what we were expecting. We made the best of it though. The pillows were VERY Thin, so we had to request more. The hotel did know that there would be four of us, and there still was not enough towels, so we had to ask for more. It was a little dirty (the floor)... like it hadn't been vacuumed (all of it) in quite a while. There was some friendly and kind staff there!!

The heater in the main room had trouble keeping up but it was exceptionally cold (below freezing even during the day) while we were there. We didn’t use any amenities because of family commitments.
Grrrr (2/5): - Cabin was dirty the pull out mattress was dirty on both sides, they replaced springs with plastic bags, there were cobb webs threw out the cabin, along with the amount of dust in the heater vents, the sink had dried up toothpaste in it, the bed in the room had pet hair under the sheets, and there was black mold in the bathroom.

Amy (6/5): Okay Accommodations - PROS: Staff was very friendly and helpful and quickly switched cabins for us when we were unhappy with our room. There is a LOT to do, but we mostly stayed in our cabin. It was nice because they allow dogs for a small fee. CONS: Unfortunately, our bed was pretty uncomfortable and the well water smelled like sulfur and had a green tint to it when I filled up the jacuzzi tub.

Dirty sheets on bed and in the spare drawer, also charged $80 to my card when I was specifically told they wouldn’t be charging me. Called to speak to “manager” but she was never there; left my number when multiple people for a promise she would call me back-never has! We are frequently staying here. This is my daughters favorite place but we won’t be back!

MandyH (4/5): - We stayed in the Loft for 1 night. We were able to check in early (which was great) & the front staff was awesome! When we got to the room, we were surprised by the condition of the room. I understand the Loft is considered the economic lodging but for the price I paid, I expected more. The room was dirty with stains on the carpet & bedding. It's old, which we expected but I've stayed in $50/night rooms that were cleaner & more updated. We found out pretty quickly that the heater did not work (room was 55 degrees). Maintenance came (guy was awesome) but it took quite a while to fix it. He was finally able to get it running but it went out again in the middle of the night so we all had to bundle up to try to sleep. The walls are paper thin so we could hear everything (Including every time someone flushed a toilet or ran water because it made crazy clicking noises.) Overall the room was just gross & definitely not worth what we paid. (I was hoping the carpet stains were old, but our white socks were gross when we left) The pool was fun, the games were okay. A lot were broken and took a bunch of our tokens & were out of tickets. I wish I would have read the reviews posted by others here and on FB because the room cleanliness seems to be a common issue that is met by comments like "we are sorry that you are disappointed but appreciate your feedback. We hope you give us another chance." Too bad they don't care more about their lodging because it's a fun place for families.

The house had bugs in the window and pet hiar all over the sheets and floor, we didn't have any pet with us. The house had cobwebs all over the wall. The hig tube in the queen size room had hair and the water was yellowish brown color when it came out. I will never book a room the expedia again. It was the worst time I have ever had in a loft room. I still had to pay $279.00 for the room and i booked for a king size bed in the loft and i got a queen.

The shower had very little water pressure. The main lodge was a lot of fun with the bull rides bar and arcade. The lady behind the bar was new but definitely kicking ass and taking names! She’s gonna do fabulous there! The waterpark was a lot of fun. There was an accident when we were gonna go for a couple hours before it closed the first night so we were given free tickets for the next day which was very nice. The restaurant steak was prepared perfect so so delicious. Unfortunately the Med and cheese was just a little on the spicy side for the children. The turkey soup was the bomb.com!! The room was worth maybe $99 at very best. We didn’t spend hardly any time there. Our family members had a thoroughbred suite and that was night and day difference from our room.
KD (4/5): - This resort has a lot of potential, but needs a lot of updating. There was paint and plaster falling into the Jacuzzi tub, a lot of areas are worn down, cracked and needing refurbishing in the pool area. And unfortunately if you have a suite, you have to take all of your swimming clothing to the pool area to change because the walkway isn’t enclosed. Many arcade games weren’t working and just took our tokens. Very very over priced food for what you get. Won’t stay there again.

They must think we are psychic or mind readers or just know things like this even if we have never stayed there before! I will stay somewhere else if I'm ever in the area again... not my only complaint, but you get my drift!

There was pretzels in the heater, burn marks/ashes also on the heater along with melted plastic. On top of that some of the lights wouldn't turn on and the pillows were really flat. A week after our stay we were charged $200 and still waiting for a manager to explain why. We will never stay here again.

We stayed in the Loft building which is a little out dated. First night was quiet as it was basically empty. The next night a small group of guys took the room next to us and we could hear them very clearly trough the adjoining door, which is not sound proof at all. Luckily they went out late and were quiet when they returned. Restaurant was nice but the food was just ok.

Was told they would try to make that happen. Called 4 more times. Got there at 3 and still was unable to check in. At 350 was told it was going to be an additional 30 minutes and I went off. Magically they had a room ready for us immediately. Staff at the check in desk was rude and not accommodating. Will NOT be back! Also the water STINKS, filled up the bathtub to give my child a bath and the water was YELLOW.

Andrea (4/5): Small family cabin, beds not comfortable - We arrived after dark so could t get a good feel for the area. The resort is “off the beaten path” a ways. Front desk staff was kind and very helpful. We had supper at the restaurant on site, and even though we got there 30 mins before they closed, they still sat us and served us. Food was mediocre but we were hungry. We rented a family cabin, a little deceiving in pics and description. Very dark getting to cabin, no lights. Had to call front desk to find out about parking. Cabin was kind of tucked away. Overall, cabin was very small for a family cabin. Twin beds in the loft were basically on the floor. Not for older kids. All beds were very uncomfortable, hard mattresses. Cabin had been cleaned but floors were dirty. Bathroom, tiny. If rustic is what you are looking for, this is it. If comfort is what you are looking for, best to look elsewhere. The facility had lots of activities- horseback riding, stores, bull riding, water park but we were just there to sleep so did not use any of the facilities.

John (6/5): Not sure what to think. - Hard to rate the stay, our suite was very nice and fully furnished. It was very clean and comfortable. It was noisy from kids running around upstairs late into the night. The problem I have with it is that we thought we had reserved a cabin and not a suite since there were 5 adults on the trip. So the waterpark by the suites is not included and is an additional $25 per person, if you want to use the free pool you have to load everyone up and drive 2 miles away, this means bring a changes of close so your car seats dont get wet on the trip back, oh, the cabin we wanted was within walking distance from the pool. Staff was pleasant, facilities were clean. I would stay here again if I could get a cabin and leave the suites to the golfers. Side note, the underground parking is very tight unless you have a compact vehicle.

At 4:00, I was told to come back at 4:30. The first clerk was rude and matter of fact in telling me that the cabin wasn't clean yet and I had no choice but to wait. When I went back at 4:30, another (much nicer) clerk apologized and explained that a tree had recently fallen down near my cabin and so housekeeping couldn't get to it. She told me she'd call me when the cabin was ready. I waited another hour and a half and finally went in again to ask what was going on. When they told me the cabin still was not ready, I asked for a refund. I was told then that they could give my mother and I a 2 bed loft room for less money. I agreed and followed the supervisor's directions to the room. As we tried to unlock the room, a man came up to us and explained that we were trying to enter his family's room. We called the desk again, received yet another apology and were told they'd refund our money. There were no other hotels ANYWHERE to be had in the area. My mother and I ended up canceling our girl's weekend, turning around, and driving 3 hours back home. It was a horrible experience. I will say that the 2nd clerk and the supervisor were polite and apologetic, but it was little consolation.
