Guest Reviews
- Helen (8/5): - Great area for walking all over older Halifax.
- Kerrie (2/5): - This place was disgusting. No heat, windows in the dorm didn’t close and they give you the thinnest blanket in the WINTER. The place was filthy with mice and mouse droppings everywhere. I would never go back to this place.
- AKM (8/5): - Overall - good
- Mona (10/5): - Very comfortable and affordable room. Laundry facilities with free access for guests. They even provide laundry detergent! Easy parking access, peaceful grounds.
- teri (8/5): - The room was great. There was a large window I could open but the curtains didn’t fully cover the window that overlooked a lit up corridor.
- Joyce (10/5): - Bathrooms conveniently located. Rooms hallways bathrooms could be cleaner.
- Michael (10/5): - Basic accommodation , convienient .
- Marie Sylvie (8/5): - Excellent location
And easy access to downtown.
Price was also o.k.
Only the internet access was deficient.
- Lynn (8/5): - love the property and location . given the heat would have been great to have access to fans for the rooms or even to rent them
- Sandra (10/5): - Excellent stay. Thank you.
- Adnan Ahmed (10/5): - Everything is excellent. Starting from staff to place residing
- Jay (8/5): - Brought back the olds days of being a student.
- Joanne (6/5): - No food options at location. All food options are 10 to 15 minutes away. Bed are not the most comfortablle.
Bathroom counter and sinks speckled with people's toothpaste and not cleaned once by their maintenance person. Had to clean own space prior to using it.
- C (10/5): - Everything is good except that guests don’t have the access to kitchens.
- Don (10/5): - It is a gorgeous campus. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
- Amanda (10/5): - It's got character
- Deborah (10/5): - Clean and cosy room.
- Kongshin (8/5): - Nice and quiet environment
- Usha (8/5): - Washroom are not clean
- Simone (8/5): - Great friendly, hospitable, knowledgeable staff.
Overall happy with the accommodations. Slept comfortably.
I would recommend and stay again.
I wish the basement rooms had windows that were more accessible to open for fresh air since there's no AC.
Bathroom showers could use a better scrubbing in the corners. There were cob webs & long leg spiders.
Spider & cob webs in the corners of the room too.
- Rebecca (8/5): - NA
- Kristi (6/5): - This place is cheap which is great. The room was very hot and stuffy. Hard mattress. The bathroom is down the hall and for all genders. I didn't want to shower while someone is pooping a few feet away.
- John (10/5): - Check in was quick and easy, bathrooms were clean, beds were as comfy as you expect beds to be in a dorm room. Plenty of plugs for your electronics which was nice. Definitely will consider booking again!
- tina (8/5): - If the room has air exchange , it will be wonderful
- Robert A (2/5): - I checked in and left to attend a concert without being in my room more than a few seconds. When I returned, I quickly realized that the heating system was turned on and the radiators here hot. That would be awesome in February but we are in July in a prolonged heat wave. The heaters were overpowering the open window. I had no choice but to leave and I faced a long drive home at midnight.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Value Offering - Very good value for the price. Not air-conditioned but fine with the fa.
- Munden AK (8/5): - Only complaint is the bathroom is very small
- Michelle (4/5): - King’s College summer accommodation staff were lovely. The room I stayed in was noisy, not sure if it was HVAC or what; however I the room was clean and tidy. The bathroom showers could have been cleaner. Over all it was okay and a great price for a short stay in central Halifax.
- Darren (8/5): - It was a fun experience to relive my youth by staying in a university dorm ;). The building is old and dated, but it was perfectly safe and adequate for our purposes. I suspect some travellers would not enjoy how basic it was, but I thought it was fin…
- Sari (10/5): - Beautiful old building. Roomy, walkable to downtown or easy drive. Can park in convenient lot on weekends and each evening. Seemed like good value. It is a dorm with shared bathroom, but roomy bathroom, never seemed busy.
- Jason (10/5): - Perfect for minimalist living !!!
- Kristelle (8/5): - Nice cozy spot. Students manning the front desk are doing a great job.
- Roxan (2/5): Not quiet - I might have been unlucky, but our room neighbor started to slam his room door at 6am. The sound was so loud that I did awake in shock every time. That happened about 10 times within an hour.
- Kimberly (8/5): - Great price for a quick overnight stay.
- Amanda (10/5): - Great!
- Andrew (6/5): - An adequate place to lay your head.
Room was okay, very utilitarian.
Wall AC plugs wouldn’t charge my phone.
The curtain length allowed outside lighting to invade the room, right at pillow level.
Staff were very nice, and it’s preferable to a hostel in my experience.
- Emil (8/5): - It was excellent but didn't care for the separation of my wife and I. Also didn't like the expense parking. It was like they were trying to make a profit off the their guest ... Not cool !
- ping (10/5): - Good location. Lowest price in halifax
- Livia (8/5): - It is in a nice neighborhood. Street parking is difficult so I purchased the day pass to park on site.
The rooms are barebones but clean. Shared bath so bring flipflops etc.
- John (10/5): - Affordable in a great location.
- Brittany (10/5): - Good for a night in town
- Kimberly (2/5): - We didn’t even check in. When I called about the check in times and parking I was informed they had given all the parking spots away already.
- Rob (8/5): - My wife and I stayed here for the Saturday of the Halifax Music Festival. ALL of the hotels were booked during this busy time of year. While the room itself is basically a college dorm room (no bathroom in the room) it met our needs for a place to sleep for the night. Reasonably priced, good location and pleasant/helpful staff made it a good place for us.
- Ibrahim (4/5): - .
- bo (4/5): - room condition poor.
no ac, bad washroom, bad facility
and the location is remote from downtown
- bo (4/5): - location not good
shared washroom not good
bedroom not good
- Alexis (10/5): - I stayed here for a concert at garrison grounds. 20-30 minute walking distance and 5-10 minute Uber. For the price it was well worth the money! I would consider staying here again. It was a little warm in the room but I asked for a fan at the front desk and they were more than happy to give us one. Also, the front desk attendant was very friendly and was able to let us check-in early.
- Karen (10/5): - It was a great option for my budget
- Elena (10/5): - It was great! Thank you
- Marius Marcel (10/5): A King's stay - This summer residence stay experience was exceptional on many fronts. The reception and the room preparation staff have been top notch. I highly recommend this location on a main bus line (route 1), a 2 km walk to downtown to the East passing by the fantastic Public Gardens as well as three away from Point Pleasant Park to the South. The colourful neighborhood is worth the walk to the Citadel. The student residence is roomy and impeccable. Worth the extra effort to stay out of the tourist zone of hotels. A definitive way to enjoy Halifax as a local.
- shuyi (10/5): - Beautiful college, great location, quiet place and friendly staff, recommend it!
- Natasha (10/5): - Excellent professional student service. They had everything we needed
- Yusa (6/5): - There was a mouse in our room. We had booked for 7 days, and unfortunately we’re not allowed to use the kitchen so we had to get drinking water from the shared bathroom sinks. University itself was nice though.
- Diana (10/5): - It was a wonderful dorm experience. Quiet, clean and spacious with ample room for hanging out.
- Arthur (6/5): - This is a dorm, which is fine.
Shared bathrooms, which is ok.
Just they only give towels and soap for one day, they don’t refresh the rooms.
- Amanda (10/5): - I like the old vibe because the campus is so old. Accommodation is nice. Staff are great!
- Busayo (6/5): - Proximity to my event. Friendly and helpful staff. Ideal for short term stay.
- Kevin (6/5): - Accommodations for parking is needed. I was checking out at 9 and staff was reluctant to issue me a pass for two hours so my car would not get towed.
- Norman (10/5): - We have stayed in several university residences open to the public in the summer season and this one was chosen, in Halifax, because it listed all items provided for our stay including sheets.
All university summer services do not provide sheets as parts of supplies. 2 other university accommodations did not provide bedding in their accommodation. Always read the list of items provided!
- Ashna (8/5): - Room was clean, and washroom was far from the room which we don’t like it.
- Harold (6/5): - Good location close to downtown. Dormitory living and very basic. Kind and helpful young staff. I was rarely at the room but a place to sleep and Wi-Fi. The cost was low compared to a hotel. Thanks for the stay
- Fiona (10/5): - Basic room but with everything you need
- Evan (10/5): - Nice rooms, quiet, very clean
- Jowenne (10/5): - The dormitory rooms are very clean and simple. Perfect for solo travellers.
- Amanda (10/5): - It is very old
- Nayan (6/5): -
- Arun (2/5): - Room heat was stuck on full and quite dirty. Had to switch rooms but meant very little sleep or first night.
- REY (4/5): - -Poor wifi, (always disconnect)
-Laundry needs to do coin operated for guest (it is card operated- we don’t have card)
-No microwave oven to heat food so I eat my cold left over food.
- i did not enjoy my stay…. I checked out early… ( 2 days early)
- Emma (2/5): - There was construction happening in the building while we were staying, which they didn’t disclose. There were also mice traps in the hall near our room, communal washrooms were dirty, and they left the windows open despite it being freezing. Had to check out early due to the conditions. Would not recommend.
- Keynan (10/5): - Good trip
- Vincent (10/5): - I didn’t particularly like the shared bathroom. Also, they could’ve been cleaned better.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Mices in property - There were mices in the dorm room told front desk and they mention it was common
- Amanda (10/5): - Enjoyed my night. Great staff! Carter is a gem!😊
- Quake (10/5): - Great place for students travel with cheaper prices if you accept shard bathroom.
- Vikram (6/5): - Awesome staff, very helpful. Did not like the tracking since we got our PR in 2017.
- Keith (8/5): - A little hard to find and have to pay for parking during the week but convenient to Downtown and within walking distance to most attractions.
- Chantal (10/5): - Nice quiet neighborhood, 10 min bus ride from downtown, simple room with everything needed for a good night sleep. The fan helped to keep the air cool. Staff was helpful and very courteous. Thanks!
- Brian (8/5): - Overall it was good value and accommodations and facilities were clean. I was in a room in the basement where it was cooler but it had a number of spiders and the mini fridge was making a lot of noise. I took care of both issues on my own but noted them to the front desk on checkout (if I mentioned it to them ahead of time I am confident they would have dealt with promptly as front desk service was good).
- Brian (8/5): - Affordable and close to downtown and waterfront. Common washrooms were not my favorite but were clean and close to all rooms.
- Kim (4/5): - Charged higher than price on Expedia. Wifi not working, given number to contact by front desk which went straight to voicemail every time. Received a callback after I checked out the next day
- Brian (8/5): Room was great! - Room and washrooms were great and very clean. Showers were not the greatest. Don’t think they were cleaned my entire 4 night stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff was very helpful.
Facilities are rather outdated.
No air conditioning (they lent us fans).
Beds/mattresses were hard.
Parking is 18$/day between 8 am and 4 pm.
- Christopher (10/5): - Great spot. Thanks for the laundry!
- Janice (8/5): - The room was good except for no a/c and no fans. It was very hot outside 31°C and opening the window didn't help, no wind either. The heater was also going in the lobby of the building I stayed in for some reason. But besides this, the location is convenient for bus route down to the wharf. Front staff was nice.
- Cathy (6/5): - For a residence the rooms are spacious and comfortable. However, that was about it. This was the most expensive residence we stayed in on our travels with the least to offer. It is clean, basic and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. If you had a vehicle it would be more convenient. We did not have our own bathroom and there was no dining service. I’d probably spend the extra $20 for a hotel in Halifax next time.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - All good.
- Ningsheng (10/5): - Locared in quite campus
- salva (8/5): - -The room was spacious.
- On the negative it was as clean as would be
Expected. And construction in the early morning was alarming.
- Ningsheng (10/5): - Clean and cozy place
- shelley (10/5): - Friendly staff, comfortable accommodation
- Sokol (2/5): - Its not a hotel its a cheap student dormitory . No AC shared washroom& shower coudnt even open the window. Such a shame to ripoff people for 2 twin beds 170$ a night??? It should be a shelter for refugees not for tourists and visitors
- Erik (10/5): - Friendly service and helpful staff
- Barry (10/5): - As was expected for a night in a dorm.
- Benjamin (8/5): Ok, but not for comfort - It was good to have a place like that to pass the night. It’s not for comfort. But for a short time, it’s ok.
- Rosa (8/5): Convenience price - quality - Beautiful building, not the best mattress, good stay for a short trip .
- Moira (8/5): - Very convenient and good value.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Worked well. - Previous reviews matched my experience. Easy to get in & settled.
The space suited me well enough. Bonus that the bus stop was right outside!!
Kind of hot, but the window opened with a screen so I was perfectly comfortable for the night.
I was surprised to find a refrigerator in the room. But I may have missed that in the listing.
I was also surprised to find 2 mouse traps tucked along the wall. I saw no evidence of mice at all -but the presence of the traps fed dreams of the sounds of non-existent mice.
- Susana (10/5): - The staff is super friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this dorms.
- Susana (8/5): - There was cat pee in the hallway, no where to hang towel in the shower.
- rui (2/5): - the environment is good. the reception girl acutually is not good. cheated on parking lot fee not tell me it is free parking after 4 pm and charge 17 dollor for almost 1 hour parking! why dont tell customer the truth? halifax shame!
