- Axle Bon (6/5): - •Affordable •Front desk person was rude
•Location was plagued with homeless and drugged people
•Towels had hairs
- Matthew (1/5): Dirty, disgusting, creepy. - Dirty, disgusting, creepy. There was a tuft of hair on the floor. The towels have blood or boogers on them. There was only 1 piece of artwork and it was extremely creepy. I would not recommend staying here.
- Mariana (5/5): -
- Amirreza (5/5): - Nice staff Location, cockroaches
- Paula (7/5): -

- 386cheyenner (4/5): Okay but area is horrible - The area this hotel is in is not the best. Homeless and parties on the street until 5 am. Very loud. You open the door to people doing meth on the street. The tv didn’t work the first night and the first employee was not helpful. The second night the second employee helped and fixed the tv.
- LEE (6/5): - 직원이 친절함. 실내 조명이 없고..
헤어드라이기 작동불가.
침대가 부실함..

- RiceField_202603 (8/5): Excellent Location and Responsive Service, but be mindful of the area. - The hotel’s proximity to Powell St. Station offers excellent convenience. It provides easy access to the BART (direct from SFO), Muni Metro, and the F-line streetcar. The popular cable car station is also within walking distance.
The service was great! The staff replaced the broken fridge immediately after I let them know. I also enjoyed the complimentary coffee and bread for breakfast.
However, please be aware that the safety of the surrounding area is not the best. I would recommend avoiding going out late at night.
I look forward to staying here again during my next trip to San Francisco.
- 蔡宛頻 (7/5): - Nice service and employess! Always eager to help and being friendly. Thanks a lot! Hotel often surrounded by homeless, somtimes feel unsecure.
Wifi is not strong enough. It takes a couple minutes to download my file from the cloud.

- Antoinette (10/5): Wonderful - Comfortable stay, great customer service The parking situation was horrible

- Jay (8/5): For $100 a good value for a secure comfortable nights stay. - Close to our concert venue, comfortable bed, secure lobby
- Mccall (10/5): - Quiet neighborhood. N/A
- Urquidi (8/5): The only issue I had was the private bathroom? The shower didn’t work and no hot water pressure - The location is perfect for all occasions walking distance from convenience stores to markets and bus transportation This place is quiet and clean
- Jenna (1/5): -
- Henry (10/5): Great value - Clean
- Bronwyn (9/5): After a week I extended for 3 days - Lengthy 10 day stay N/a
- Ricardo Cezar (9/5): -
- Forrest (10/5): - I’ve never been to a more affordable hotel that had such wonderful service. While it does provide the basics and they’re limited in a lot of ways I couldn’t help but enjoy the rich history this place instills. It’s ‘like’ going into an old persons home that has that distinct ‘old person smell’ (we’ll all get it if we’re lucky) but you’ll be transported back to 1934 when things were simpler, things that were important were actually important, and the best things in life were in fact free. It doesn’t cost anything to be a good person and this building reflects that motto. By which I mean, Everything works, from the building to the staff, and does so effortlessly providing you the means to do what’s on your agenda with no delay. Night on the town- check. Easy to find public transportation- check. Hearing kids laughing and playing in the halls- check.
- Shawn Tony (8/5): - The space was worth the price the only drawback was the area
- Oscar (6/5): - Falta mucha limpieza en sabanas, baño, paredes. Armarios viejos. Imposible abrirlos. Pelos por todas partes. Mal desayuno y limitado en sus opciones. Homeless por todas partes en el sector. Incluso me seguian hasta la entrada. Lo unico positivo que esta muy cerca del transporte publico. abrir cajones
- Kesa (10/5): -
- Rediet (2/5): - Staff is ok just the place is so dirty
- Scott (2/5): Horrible! - It was a disgusting room, blood stains on the sheets, yellow pillows, no soap. The neighboring room had people coming and going ALL NIGHT LONG AND SLAMMED THE DOOR WVERY 5 mins! I did not sleep at all. The noise from the street is overwhelming, and there were roaches!
- Axle Bon (9/5): -
- Chinta (2/5): - Do not be fooled by the picture of this hotel while selecting a place to stay
It is located in one of the most horrible locations in SAN Francisco. ( slum area) you will be greeted by homeless in every step , stepping at their poos and pees. The place stinks, Horrible of all is the elevator , it stinks like rotten eggs .
The bed is disgusting. I have the picture but it does not allow me to upload here.
Be ware!
- D (10/5): - Great staff
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No food experience. Bed was good
- Malinda (2/5): - We booked this hotel, obviously trusting Expedia. It was only 2 miles from downtown so we thought with the “good rating,” it would be a decent hotel (not luxury). We pull up to the hotel looking for parking when we realize there is tons of homeless people outside the door/street. There were 3 cops in the intersection trying to control the crowd and homeless while people were walking into the street and making illegal exchanges. Note, you have to park around the block so you have to get your luggage down the street and around the corner to get to the hotel & leave your car in an unknown area. Also, did not feel safe because they were blocking the entrance and would have to fight through them. We called and explained but they said they didn’t have problems inside the hotel, it was the one a block down. I understand they can’t control the streets but having to walk a good distance to get to the hotel while they can’t protect us outside & while they admitted to the other one not being safe did not ease our tension. We never received a refund b/c they said it was safe. Despite this, we lost the money & booked another one outside the city b/c we felt that unsafe/uneasy. One of the excuses they used about not getting a refund back too was that we didn’t want to pay for parking. However, to pay for a different hotel & gas to go back and forth means it obv. wasn’t about the money. Be aware of this hotel, esp. women!!
- Martin (10/5): - It's my go-to, when I'm scared to go home. Ha-ha!
Just kidding.
- Sunshine38273933383 (8/5): I really enjoyed the stay at this Hotel - Great service. They had toast and coffee for breakfast. The shared bathrooms were clean and even though the neighborhood is rough, we felt safe.I really enjoyed the stay at this Hotel.
- Sean (2/5): Such a fun experience! History! - This might be the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The room is absolutely disgustingly dirty. No air conditioning, however they do provide a ceiling fan and a small table fan. The problem is you don't want to open the windows at all to get any airflow to the room because they are super dirty and have no screens. On top of that the nightmare of the street below you is awaiting with its unique smells and locals. Its easily one of the most dangerous, disgusting, drug infested, rat infested and noisiest streets in all of San Francisco. Such charm! Welcome to San Francisco!
Here are the positives: the bed was firm but the sheets and pillows were actually very clean and no bugs! The mounted flat screen tv was a decent size and was loud enough to drown out the police sirens, screeching tires and drug induced screams all night.
You are also very close to Union Square and some great dining options. Forgot to buy some waters, snacks and maybe an adult beverage? Don’t worry tons of liquor stores on the same block…the front deskman even personally escorted me the half block down the street and acted as my body guard. The other cool thing is that you really get to experience what a 126 year old hotel feels like because nothing has been updated or cleaned since the turn of the 20th century. A piss stained elevator will jolt you up to your floor, pardon the metal gate, its all such a fun experience.
But hey to be fair….$100 a night in San Francisco, not too bad these days!
- Taylor (2/5): - It’s in the middle of skid row. Impossible to sleep with the noise from the street. No refunds available. Will never return here.
- Amalia (2/5): - The zone there was homeless, there was no parking as well we had to pay. We had to share a bathroom there was no private bathroom, They offer breakfast but there was no tables or chair it was in the lobby we paid for 2 nights but we only stayed for one cause we were uncomfortable we couldn’t sleep.
- Bernadette (10/5): - All good and the staff were friendly.
- eric (10/5): - This place is very good. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Staying there depends on the type of traveler you are. If your focus is public trans, no frills hotel, good value, this is a great choice. The area the hotel is in is a bit dirty, and gritty. SF has a homeless problem, and it’s very visible in this area of the city. There is a lot of late night noise, but I think that adds to the charm. I would recommend this space if you’re a low frills traveler that seeks a connivence, price, and a real SF experience. I’d stay again, and I look forward to it.
- Hazel (10/5): - The room was clean and spacious, I stayed 2 days and when I requested clean towels the next day, I didn’t receive them even though I asked twice
- miranda (2/5): Bloody rooms, other people info in "wrong chat" - When booking I didn't realize it was a shared bathroom, so I upgraded to a room with private bathroom. We took the elevator to the third floor which got stuck on the second floor and staff had to press a button in the hallway to get the elevator moving again. There was hair, dead flies, and a used bloody snotty tissue on the floor. The tv remote was greasy with a hair on it. The toilet paper roll had about nine squares of toilet paper on the roll. The freezer frost had redish brown stains and the blankets had brown streaks, that didn't even seem like they had been washed and worst of all blood on the front door. It was so bad we left and didn't even stay in the city.
The hotel refunded our upgrade money and informed us that a refund would have to be dealt with through hotels.com. When dealing with them via text they sent us a text of a woman's reservation details for a different hotel, the room types, check in and out info, her name and email, then said "sorry wrong chat". Very unprofessional on part on hotels.com and not very safe to be accidentally providing other people's itinerary to the wrong people. They then refused to provide a refund and said it was because the hotel wouldn't approve, yet they seemed to have no problem refunding the uprgade onsight and said we had to deal with hotels.com. So use caution in dealing with hotels.com, because you don't know if someone else may be getting your info accidentally in a "wrong chat".
- Jami (6/5): Bad location - The location is terrifying. I would not recommend staying here unless you need some crack and a hooker. Room was comfortable but very loud.
- Hazel (10/5): - It was comfortable, spacious, and clean. The staff were pleasant also, I definitely stay again!
- Ada (2/5): - We didn’t stay…looked super unsafe for me and my son since it juts the two of us. The area is very shady and scary
- Henry (10/5): Good - Clean
- Henry (10/5): Pleasant - Clean
Very clean
- Henry (10/5): Pleasant - Clean and comfortable
- Verified traveler (8/5): Warfield hotel - We loved the outside patio
- Annabel (6/5): - Liked it now trying to go back to Miami
- ignacio (2/5): It’s a hostel, not a hotel - I am a disabled person and I need a bathroom and this hotel does not have rooms with private bathrooms. I had to walk around the building to use the bathroom in the middle of the night twice. If I wanted to stay in a hostel I could have done so and pay $60 instead of $260. Total rip off, don’t stay here.
- Michael (6/5): - The staff are so polite and helpful. Check in was easy. The area is kind of sketchy, especially late at night. Breakfast included toast and coffee. If you’re looking for a cheap spot for your stay SF, I would recommend !
- Martin (10/5): - I always come here. I like it very much. In fact, I'm going there later today.
- Kenneth (2/5): - Absolutely Disgusted – Misleading, Unsafe, and Zero Accountability
I was really looking forward to staying in a hotel that seemed to have that classic San Francisco charm—but wow, was I wrong. I booked this place way in advance on April 20, 2025, for a stay on June 5th, nearly two months ahead.
Wanting to be sure of a smooth late-night arrival, I even called the hotel ahead of time to confirm that someone would be at the front desk around 1:30 a.m. The person who answered gave me a short “yes” and nothing more. No mention whatsoever that the front entrance would be completely surrounded by homeless individuals—to the point where my Uber driver refused to let me out because it didn’t feel safe. That alone should tell you everything.
I had to leave the area entirely because I didn’t feel comfortable or safe getting out of the car. When I reached out for a refund, I was met with a flat-out refusal and slapped with a “no show” charge, even though I tried to avoid a dangerous situation. I booked through a third-party app, and even when they reached out to the hotel on my behalf, the hotel still refused to refund me a single cent.
To make matters worse, I’ve now noticed that bad reviews are being deleted from their listings—likely in an effort to hide how awful the experience truly is. This hotel misleads travelers by pretending to be in a “nice” area and completely fails to warn guests about the real conditions around the property.
- Lucio (4/5): - Ok
- María Luisa (2/5): - I didnt like the área .ir was in .lots of homeless people noise the rooms were dirty and they house homeless people vices.its not very safe.the day arrived they gave me a dirty uncleaned room with hair on the bed and stained sheets.the room smelled dirty. I went to the lobby and complained and they assingned me another regular room the managers are indu for my part i wouldnt return to the hotel
- Nilaksh (1/5): Rats - Nothing There were rats In the room
- Rocio (8/5): Very good -
- Brian (10/5): - Nice room, comfortable bed with pressed sheets
- Adriana (6/5): - Decent enough for the area. Potent smell in building and room. Okay for one night. Have never had staff knock on door to remind us to check out before actual time. Area is sketchy at best. Would opt for another hotel even if inconvenient for intended destination.
- Barakat (6/5): Pleasant -
- Martin (10/5): - All good in this hood.
- Mahesh (1/5): Pathetic - That somehow I managed to finish 3-nights stay The worst hotel stay of my life. The area is infested with drug addicts and homeless people. The hotel is damp and smells. Very unfriendly staff.
- ChantressofHathor (6/5): Pleasant Hotel - The Warfield Hotel is a nice 3 star hotel that contains all the basics one may need i.e. fridge, tv, microwave, iron. It's a 10 min walk from Union Square and Powell BART station. Staff are helpful if you have any questions, and there is a lift for those with accessibility issues.
- JAMES (4/5): - Strange smell in this hotel. Could barely sleep from it.
- Martin (10/5): - Great property! We're on a first name basis with the staff and it feels like home when we stay. Thanks guys.
- TerryRI (8/5): An older, economical hotel that is clean and perfectly adequate - The Warfield was built in 1909, so that makes it over 115 years old. As you might expect, its architecture reflects its era, so it isn't fancy by today's standards. However, my room was very clean. I had a room with a private bath and the fixtures were quite new. The TV was modern and there were lots of channels. The wi-fi was acceptable for e-mail and browsing. The staff was pleasant and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Front desk is always super friendly and helpful, room is usually super affordable and comfortable. Refrigerator wasn’t working too well but good enough for cold drinks. neighborhood is pretty active at night, a lot of homeless in the area but everybody keeps to themselves. Just very loud lol my stays are usually pretty comfortable. Solid 7 out of 10 most of my stays
- Nigel (4/5): Disappointing - Was cheap and basic The room was very run down, and even though bedding was clean, the duvet wasn't. There are a lot of homeless people in that area that didn't help
- Terrance (10/5): - This is an old San Francisco hotel (built in 1909). So, don't expect this to be a modern five star hotel. That said, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the TV worked fine (and lots of channels). The fixtures in the bathroom appeared fairly new. The staff was always helpful. The negatives aren't due to the hotel itself, but rather the fact that many neighborhoods in San Francisco (including the hotel's) now have a lot of homeless people sleeping on the street not far from the hotel entrance. The street was also fairly noisy at night - which did transmit into my room (which faced the street). But if your expectations are reasonable, and consistent with the price you pay, you should be happy.
- MICHAEL A. (2/5): NO Bathroom in the Room!!!! - Bed cover had small stains, NO bathroom in the room which I had never seen in my life! They should advertise as hostal or motel or something else definitely not a 3 star hotel, what is that!?
- Nicholas (1/5): scam alert - we left 1 hour after we got to the hotel which was more like a hostel no ac or heat showers were in the hallway rooms were the same size as the beds I didn't l8ke being scammed I would have never attempted to stay here if the description was honest and had to purchase another hotel room same day horrible experience
- Rae (5/5): I was scared the whole time!!! Their internet went out for 7 hrs one day of it..Tenderloin District! - Well.. Breakfast was ok, had to get everything in lobby. Bed was ok, not to uncomfortable.. And t.v worked... Wow! Ok, well the building is historic, 115? Years old I believe, so you can tell & the fact that they don't do anything to keep that a plus in any way. It was NOT clean!! Didn't seem like they had swept the wood floors or bathroom, only One plug in the wall for your things. Had to take out my own trash. And unless you pay for private bath with your room it's communal. Outside!!! OMG,,, Scary as!!! Homeless peeing and shit..ting on the sidewalk outside,, ppl doing drugs right there on the entire street ...I'm going to say that only if you're brave as , and carry protection... Then NO!!!!
- Israa (1/5): Bad -
- Gregory (10/5): - It’s very simple but that’s all I needed. It gets pretty loud outside with a busy street, so it would be an issue for light sleepers.
- Martin (8/5): - ¹1¹11111111111111
- Luke (10/5): - Nice place clean rooms nice staff
- Richard (10/5): - Good experience! I like retro buildings!
- Carlos (10/5): - Check in was a little confusing, wasn’t sure if I was supposed to call desk to get in as it wasn’t stated in my reservation details. But once inside employees were helpful, clean room, simple, good location for going to shows at the Warfield
- Verified traveler (4/5): You get what you pay for - The price was very low, so I did not expect much, but there were a couple issues I can't overlook. First, the elevator was out of service the entire stay. We were only on the third floor, but we're an older couple, and it was tiring after a long day of sightseeing. Second, the mini fridge in our room did not work. That was a nuisance since there was also no ice machine. The room itself was clean with newer laminate flooring and decent bedding. The common areas were fairly run down. The neighborhood is a little seedy, but no one bothered us. With that cavear, the location is convenient to BART and Union Square.
- Johnson (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tessa (2/5): - Full of homeless, one bathroom per floor, shabby
- Luke (10/5): - Good stay
- Luke (10/5): - Nice place worth the price
- D. Alex (4/5): - The soroundings are very bad even dangerous according to the taxi driver.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Haliru (7/5): Good -
- Eren (8/5): - The hotel was decent, staff was amicable. Room met expectations. My goal of travel was to explore SF cheaply. I did not stay in the hotel beyond sleeping, eating and bathing.
The hotel is a brisk walk to the theater, and it made for a decent accommodation.
The location isn’t ideal. It’s the Tenderloin. It’s loud, it’s filled with weed smoke, homeless, it’s not pretty. But, for an affordable rate with decent staff, this hotel makes up for what it loses in location. If you don’t make yourself a target, it’s fine. The hotel has security cameras and my room had a functioning deadbolt. The safety aspect isn’t the fault of the hotel. They make it work, and I didn’t feel unsafe during my stay. I wore headphones while I slept to quiet the noise. All good to me.
The Warfield is blocks away from nearby BART, even closer to MUNI bus stations. If the Tenderloin isn’t your vibe, you’re certainly able to move around with ease. Lyft was easy here.
Elevator is old fashioned with its gate. It probably would benefit from a renovation. I suspect a wheelchair user might have some difficulty.
Room wasn’t perfectly clean, but it was good enough. No bedbugs or creatures.
Coffee and “breakfast” could have been a bit longer, but it wasn’t important to me. It was basic.
Overall, great hotel if you have low expectations. It’s not a Marriott or Hilton, but it’ll get the job done good enough. Will come back if SF holds another similar event. ≈$80/night; I got what I paid for. :)
- Martin (10/5): - I'm going into the Warfield knowing exactly what I'm walking into. I'm on a first name basis with the staff ands it's all good. Thanks guys.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and comfortable. - Stayed here 6 nights in February 2025. Had a positive experience of this hotel, frienfly staff. Stayed in a room with king size bed and private bathroom. I enjoyed having a fridge and microwave in the room.
- Scott (2/5): - Was supposed stay here was afraid get out car that took us to hotel had driver keep driving till found safer area of city to stay in
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel is very to market street and spacious room. Breakfast isnt continental at all.
- Latricia (10/5): Exceptional -
- September (10/5): Exceptional - Everything met satisfactory level for me, the affordability, room size, bed comfort, amenities were basic but enough to fulfill my needs, the area was perfect, I was literally in the middle of everything, food, travel, entertainment, did I say food...lol management was informative, kind and helpful, it was peaceful and quiet .. am overall pleasant and renewable experience.. No comments...😁
- Adarsh (10/5): - Staff is great area not so much
- Jacinto (10/5): EThe hotel was comfortable, very clean and parking nearby. The only bad thing is that the area was full of homeless peop - Very clean You can hear the noise of the cars
- Lena (8/5): - Me and my family stayed at this property for the weekend we spent for Valentines and upon our arrival we arrived about 2 o’clock in the morning, and we kind of felt unsafe because there were so much homeless people and drug addicts on the block in front of the hotel and pretty much around the area and we almost Was going to book another hotel, but we were like let’s just stick it out and see how it is so we pretty much parked our rental checked into the hotel which was pretty easy. The staff was very pleasant. The hotel is very old so you can’t expect much. It was built in 1907 but you know you pretty much get what you paid for. We got a room with a private bathroom and we stayed on the third floor. The room was OK. Everything was pretty much clean and put in place, but it was very very loud so getting some sleep was hard and then our next two nights there during the day it’s pretty good less homeless hanging around in front of the hotel and then the last two nights it was less homeless folks and less noise But again you know you get what you pay for and the area is pretty common for the homeless folks, other than that our stay was great we were mostly out all day exploring the city.
- Luke (10/5): - Nice place for the price
- Brian (2/5): Don’t stay here! - No heat. The comforter was a joke. Struggled trying to sleep due to the cold room. Beat up, run down. Dangerous neighborhood. Bare basics. Only the minimum services or comforts offered.
