Guest Reviews
- Eduardo Enrique (9/5): - El interior de la casa. El espíritu. Sus pequeños jardines. La ropa de cama. El baño Resultó complicado encontrar la ubicación. La escalera muy empinada, tengo 73 años.

- Heasoo (8/5): A quiet, traditional Japanese local house - There is a rice cooker and enough cooking utensils to cook comfortably, and the ventilation fan is strong, which is very satisfying. The bathroom, kitchen, and other areas are clean. Since it's not a tourist spot, the security is actually better, and the neighborhood is quieter and cozier. A house where you can truly feel the charm of Japan. One night, the neighboring guests were so loud that they woke me up in the middle of the night. Since the place is sensitive to noise, I had to be careful not to disturb others, but if other guests are inconsiderate, I can end up being affected as well.
Among the three beds, only one had good-quality bedding, while the other two did not. It would have been better if all the bedding were of uniform quality.
- Janice (10/5): - We chose Shiki Homes Aki as our Kyoto base because we like to cook for ourselves and relax in the evening, while still having access to local sights and the public transport system. Shiki Homes Aki provided a well maintained, comfortable base in easy reach of buses and the subway. The Imperial Palace Gardens, the Nishijin textile area and Nijo Castle were all short walks from the house and city buses took us to other shrines, temples and shopping areas. The house has a comfy double bed and lots of storage space for clothes. There are also two futon style beds and the sofa converts into another bed, but we didn't need to use any of the additional beds. The sofa was a good place to relax in the evening. We were grateful for the washing machine and space to dry our clothes during our stay. The bathroom is amazing, with a shower and a modern traditional Japanese bath for a deep soak after a long day's site seeing. The stove top and grill oven were easy to use, and we had all the pans, crockery and cutlery we needed. The dining table and seats provide plenty of space for eating and for relaxing over a cup of tea or coffee. The house is in a residential area and we felt really safe there, as well as appreciating the quiet away from downtown Kyoto. We will definitely look at Shiki Homes properties again next time we visit Kyoto.
- James (9/5): NIce place with lots of space, a bit far from center for walking. - Lots of space, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, large bathroom. Location was in a great neighborhood that was quiet and had ample grocery access. Easy to find keys and enter, even late at night on day of arrival. Communication with host was prompt and satisfying. Separated toilet room from bathroom, low doorways (lots of scars), steep stairway with narrow stairs to bedrooms, location a bit far from main venues we wanted to explore, lack of close good restaurants.
- frank (10/5): - It is nice to stay in a small traditional Japanese home. It is a great experience
- Cherie (9/5): Superb - We loved the authenticity as this was what we were seeking. A peaceful neighbourhood and easy access to public transport and corner stores. Fridge failed to chill day after arrival. Managements attempt to assist was very prompt and responsive even though we were unable to get it working.
- Elena (9/5): Real Japanese house experience with comfort and at great location - It’s spacious, has all you need - heaters, iron, all kitchen appliances are great quality. The conditioner works really great. It was cool outside during my stay, but I could warm up a room really fast. The bathtub is great, a lot of useful features. Bed linen are great (soft and comfortable). You have an excellent experience of living in traditional Japanese house, but spacious (2 floors 2 bedrooms) and warm 😍 The toilet was bit cold, but the toilet seat was warm, so it was good 👍
- Rajesh (9/5): It is really nice and pleasant place to stay - It is spacious and all the basic amenities for cooking and short stay is available. Most of the tourist location are nearby and department store is at walkable distance.
- Giang (9/5): Superb -
- Rebecca (8/5): A charming and comfortable house, would definitely recommend for longer stays. - Great location in a picturesque, quiet neighbourhood, only a short walk to the subway station or bus stops. Comfortable beds, nice bath, and practical kitchen. The house is very charming but as an old building it has poor sound proofing and little insulation. However, it is a quiet neighbourhood and there are plenty of heaters to keep warm.
- Nicholas (6/5): Very thin walls so the neighbours will wake you up each time they speak - It was a nice traditional house It is very very noisy because the walls are so thin and the. neighbours talk. Any movement from the neighbours wakes you up. There should be signs EVERYWHERE reminding people to be quiet. Also when we were having problems finding the place, we tried to call but the host did not pick up the call.
- Andrea (10/5): Lovely house in a peaceful area. - The property was in a great location. Tooled into a little alley it was very quiet and peaceful. The beds were amazingly comfortable. Close to a 7 eleven and walking distance to Kyoto Palace.
The staff were amazing answering any questions and booking tickets for us. Thank you Shiki homes. It was a little dark inside
- Rami (9/5): Superb -
- Ahmed (8/5): Very good -
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We canceled the hotel. The accommodation costs 100 dollars The service charge is too high at 80 dollars. I felt uncomfortable.
