Guest Reviews
- Carolyn (10/5): Highly recommended with charming hosts - just go! - Diana and Noel are the most charming of hosts, one of the most friendly and helpful that we have encountered on our travels anywhere.
Villa Rouge is a delight in every way. It has a lovely location in a quiet residential neighbourhood of Invercargill with off street parking. Lovingly restored, the house has oodles of character and the guest suite includes use of a lounge. Pristine and comfortable in every way, it makes for a very relaxing stay.
Very spacious bathroom and have never come across a bathroom in which there are so many towels provided!
A cooked breakfast of bacon and eggs was delicious.
If you want to stay in Invercargill, don’t hesitate to stay with Diana and Noel. Our only regret was that one night just wasn’t enough!
- Marc (10/5): - Un véritable musée avec des gardiens charmants
- Annmaree (10/5): - The breakfast was amazing. Location was very convienent to all attractions and sites. Hosts were very helpful in suggestions of what to do and best way to travel there. Nothing
- Rosalie (10/5): A wonderful home to relax and recharge. Diana and Noel, thank you ☺️. - Absolutely beautiful heritage home, restored with live by Diana and Noel. Easy walk to restaurants, park, but even better to just enjoy our accommodation. Diana and Noel are perfect hosts, felt like we could have been old friends. We were sad to leave. Nothing at all. It was perfect.
- Madeleine (10/5): Our stay at Villa Rouge was exceptional. Dianna and Noel are phenomenal hosts who made us feel at home from the moment w - The house is beautiful and very clearly maintained with love.
- Murray (10/5): Stay here when you visit Invercargill - Diana and Noel welcomed me like family. They have allocated a great bedroom-bathroom-lounge are to guests, all luxurious. Noel’s breakfast is a knockout/ classy and tasty. Everything exceeded expectations.
- Jane (10/5): Delightful and atmospheric. A wonderful experience! - The hosts were exceptional in their attention to detail in every way. The house decor was so interesting, the space allotted to the guests so generous and having a cosy fire lit after a windy freezing day just added to perfection. Not to mention the Madeira cake! It was all exceptional
- Antony (10/5): - This is a great place to stay with your own library, lounge and dining room as well as a good sized bedroom. Very friendly owners, excellent breakfast and we will definitely be staying there again when visiting Invercargill.

After a luxurious bath my sleep was unbroken and restful. Breakfast was a decadent affair that left me feeling quite special - what a beautiful start to my day. Thank you Noel and Di x I didn't like having to leave.

An added bonus was the breakfast was included in the cost, this was not mentioned in the Booking.com blurb. We definitely will be back as soon as we can.
- Susan (10/5): - This place is a gem! Noel & Di welcomed us into their home, and it was so lovely after a series of slightly soulless hotels we stayed in during our travels around South Island. It’s a quirky place but all the better for it! We ate at a restaurant called Rocks in Invercargill and the steaks were excellent. Thanks to Noel for his recommendations on the Catlins.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly hosts. Lovely comfortable accommodation. Excellent location. Nothing
- Lee-anne (6/5): - Although a beautiful little b&b, on close inspection it was quite dirty. Dust on all surfaces, floors were dirty, shower screen was filthy, toilet didn’t flush properly and the kettle scolds you when you try to pour a cuppa. The owner was quite creepy. Although he said we could watch a movie in the lounge that was supposed to be for our exclusive use, he didn’t bother to tell us how to use the projector and once we did get it going he paid us a very weird visit and closed the door on us! Very disturbing behaviour
- RichRD (8/5): Friendly owners - We stayed here for one night. The couple who own it were delightful. V friendly and helpful. The accomodation is very....quirky. I'm giving it a four instead of a five because the bed wasn't the comfiest(what's with the need for an electric blanket in NZ!) and the room was too stuffy for me at night . Breakfast was good but we would have liked our pot of tea to have come with the cooked breakfast not after- just being picky here but it's useful info should they have other UK guests.
- Maria (10/5): - Wonderful stay and lovely couple.
- Christopher (10/5): Must be the best B&B on South Island - Charming hosts; beautiful old home, very good dinner recommendation and excellent breakfast. Superb! Nothing
- Penelope (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing and comfortable stay and delicious breakfast. - Lovely house, spacious beautiful rooms (comfortable bedroom, lovely bathroom and sitting room). Great location and a very warm welcome from Diane and Noel.
- Jenny (10/5): Absolutely fabulous! Best hosts ever. Only place to stay in Invercargill. -
- Jenny (10/5): Beautiful space and lovely hosts. - Breakfast was amazing. Thankyou Noel! Nothing
- Michael (10/5): Delightful experience in Invercargill - This place was beautiful, comfortable and wonderfully outfitted with lovely linens and decor.
It’s very private and tucked away in a quiet neighborhood with a very easy short walk to a beautiful park with trails, sculptures and a rose garden. In addition there’s a wonderful restaurant very nearby called Buster Crabb.
Homemade breakfast was terrific including yogurt, fruit, granola, eggs with bacon and toast….and excellent flat white coffee.
Most importantly, the hosts were so warm and welcoming — truly delightful people who we enjoyed getting to know.
This was really a memorable experience that exceeded our overall expectations for Invercargill !
- Sandy (10/5): From the moment you walk in, you feel like you’re part of the family - Amazing home cooked breakfast, including crispy bacon just the way we like it. Really no complaints
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely old quaint house & both hosts very friendly with lots of information & a great breakfast
- Jim (10/5): A completely wonderful experience. - Superior Everything was great
- Margot (10/5): We are coming back! - Perfectly located, incredibly comfortable and welcoming.
Noel and Dianne, our hosts are wonderful people who went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect.
We would come and stay again in a heartbeat.
- Donna (10/5): In great company - Our hosts were the most delightful couple
Absolutely sharing company with you both
Such a luxurious place to stay with the feel good factor of being looked after and left alone to experience our stay in such grandeur surroundings
Thank you so much Diana & Noel we look forward to our next visit
🤗 Absolutely loved everything
- Natasha (10/5): Fabulous stay. - Diana and Noel were wonderful hosts. The whole experience was wonderful. If you’re in the area make sure you stay here. Fabulous bed, bathroom and own sitting room. Morning coffee was great.
- Constance (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts are really lovely and the home is charming Nothing
- Margaret (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay. We received a friendly welcome, great restaurant suggestion which we enjoyed & loved watching a movie . The wee extras were very much appreciated. Breakfast was superior with home made stewed fruit, jams & bread. Poached eggs were made to perfection. Bed was soo comfy. A stunning bnb. Thank you
- John (10/5): - The one night stay was a lovely experience. Tremendous hosts in Diana and Lou. Felt treated like a King. Much appreciated experiencing an old charm experience.
- Graydon (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Great stay with our friendly hosts. - Our friendly hosts, Diana and Noel, made us very welcome and provided us with lovely breakfasts as well as a few little goodies. They were very kind, attentive, interested and interesting hosts. Noel set us up with a movie to watch each night. We really enjoyed our stay there in what seems to be an increasingly rare traditional B&B. They are long-time Invercargill residents and have done an amazing job of restoring and fitting out this old home.
- Jennifer Kay (10/5): - Exceptional accommodation, hosts were friendly, could not have been more accommodating, despite road works outside that were obviously beyond their control. Quaint, beautiful, old worldly home , we didn’t want to leave!
- Barry (7/5): Good -
- Emelia (10/5): Lovely Villa Rouge - Noel and Diana were so helpful in recommending things to do and places to eat. Noel made us a wonderful breakfast every morning. We were sad to leave. Our room was beautiful and had everything we needed. We even had our own lounge. It was a great stay. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like
- Phil (10/5): A thoroughly enjoyable stay, with welcoming hosts. - Diana and Noel are the perfect hosts and made us feel so welcome in their delightful French-style home. We arrived on a chilly, wet day and before too long were treated to cake and tea in front of a roaring log fire in the guest lounge. (As Diana and Noel take only single-party bookings, it was, in fact, our personal lounge.) The weather can change swiftly in these parts and when the sun came out we enjoyed a glorious walk in nearby Queens Park. The en suite bedroom is beautifully appointed, with bath, shower, separate toilet and a generous supply of luxurious towels. We enjoyed a great night’s sleep, a tasty breakfast and wished we could have stayed longer.
- Ian (10/5): Excellent accommodation and breakfast. - Very welcoming. Excellent friendly hosts. Lovely bedroom, Sitting Room and Bathroom. All well equipped and comfortable. Pleasant walk into town through the park. Breakfast was great ( especially the homegrown rhubarb with muesli and yoghurt).
- Urs (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly and accommodating hosts. Helped us a lot. Thanks
- Alice (10/5): January 2024 - Second stay in the last week on our way back from Stewart Island. Noel and Diana are fantastic hosts and I wouldnt stay anywhere else whilst in Invercargill.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- Alice (10/5): Villa Rouge: January 2024 - This is our second time staying at Villa Rouge. Diana and Noel are welcoming hosts, accomodating our every need.
The rooms are beautiful and comfortable and Noel puts out a wonderful spread for breakfast. Would strongly recommend staying here to anyone visiting Invercargill.
- Terence (10/5): An absolute gem. - This beautiful boutique b&b was an amazing find. The property, built in c1910 is tastefully decorated, in keeping with the style of the time and provides comfortable, spacious accommodation for the lucky traveller to enjoy. Your hosts, Noel and Diana have owned the house for 50 years and welcome you into their home as if you were one of the family. There are restaurants within walking distance and shopping only a short drive away and Noel and Diana will happily provide you with helpful tips on where to eat and things to do in the area. I cannot recommend the Villa Rouge highly enough. You will not be disappointed.
- Fleur (10/5): Exceptional - The amazing hosts made us feel very welcome. It was great to chat to them. Excellent breakfast and coffee. Beautiful property which has obviously been lovingly restored. Very comfortable room. We would highly recommend Villa Rouge!
- Andrea (10/5): - Friendly, informative
- Rebecca (10/5): - This beautiful bed and breakfast is a real treat for the senses - gorgeous decorations and very kind and friendly hosts who serve up a delicious breakfast in a proper breakfast room. It was tempting to curl up on the window seat in the adjacent library with a good book and a cosy fire - perfect for a rainy day!
- Rhonda (9/5): Very Enjoyable!!! - Noal and Diana were great and enjoyable to talk too. Very accommodating! Highly recommend
- Neoh (8/5): Very good - Our stay was too short to really meaningfully judge but Diana & Noel were gracious hosts.
It was a short stopover to see the sunset at Oreti beach before going to Queenstown.
- Carryn (8/5): Very good -
- Lindy (10/5): Quiet location, gorgeous villa to stay a night or two, close to walk to the gardens, a longer walk into town. thank you - absolutely gorgeous, comfortable and well looked after! loved watching a movie in the lounge with fire crackling and hot chocolate and biscuits! delicious breakfast.
- Megan (9/5): Very pleasant - Loved the aesthetics and old world charm of the house. Such a delightful and welcoming environment. Could not fault

- Nilupul (10/5): Exceptional - Noel and Diana were excellent hosts; charming and friendly. We loved the breakfasts they made.
- Charles (10/5): - My wife and I have stayed at many Air BnB’s in many countries. Villa Rouge is by far and away the best place we have ever stayed at. If you are in Imvercargill and don’t stay at Villa Rouge, you will miss out on one the the finest B&B’s in New Zealand. The accommodations were very welcoming, lovely and spacious. The hosts were generous with their time and gave great suggestions. The breakfast was exquisite. Every morsel was tastier than the last.
If we could give the Villa 10 smiles we would. Do yourself a favor, spend time at Villa Rouge it will be a marvelous stay. Many thanks to our hosts, they are special people with a special home.
- Barb (10/5): Nice stay in a beautiful old home. - The Villa Rouge is in a beautiful old house in a quiet neiborhood in Invercargill. Our room was very comfortable. The house is extensively decorated with beautiful artwork. The hosts are delightful. We would stay there again and recommend it to others. We used this as a staging stop for taking the ferry to Stewart Isalnd. Invergargill is a relatively large city with many services. We stumbled on an excellent breakfast in the motercycle museum downtown.
- Denise (10/5): Super stay - We had a very warm welcome from Diana and Noel. Nothing was too much trouble. The house is an absolute delight. Lovely room. Super bathroom. Breakfast was a teeny weeny bit early for our holiday mode, but it just gave us more time to enjoy our day, so not a problem. Highly recommend Villa Rouge.
- Kathirkamathasan (10/5): absolutely fabulous accommodation with super caring hosts - everything, a wonderful period house with so much character and comfort nothing
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Vivienne (10/5): Exceptional - Diana and Noel are wonderful hosts. I felt very at-home staying with them. The house has been restored with love and they have interesting art to look at. The bed was so comfortable, in fact I purchased the same pillows and sheets that were on the bed as they were so lovely (1000 thread-count). Everything was very clean. The breakfast room is lovely and Noel makes a great flat white! Diana was very kind when I was not well one day and made me soup as I was not well enough to eat anything else. I definitely recommend Villa Rouge and intend to stay there again when next in Invercargill. Nothing to dislike.
- Graeme (10/5): Superb - Noel and Diana are wonderful hosts and their villa is lovely and quiet. Enjoyed the fresh baking, delicious breakfast, good coffee and soaking in the clawfoot bath. Nothing
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Alan (10/5): - Loved it :-) beautiful home and very welcoming hosts. Quiet and comfortable - lovely breakfast and very relaxing.
- Bruce (10/5): great bed and breakfast accommodation in a beautiful old home and excellent hosts - beautiful old home with exceptional hosts in a convenient location only a short 5 minute drive into downtown Invercargill
- Gordon (10/5): - We had a lovely stay at Villa Rouge. The room was beautifully decorated, tea and coffee facilities excellent, the bathroom was luxurious and we even had our own lounge room with a large selection of films on offer, viewed on a huge screen. The breakfasts were lovely. Our hosts, Noel and Diana, are delightful and great company. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Rouge. Highly recommended!
- Cathy (10/5): A beautifully restored decorated villa. accompanied by a wonderful couple. - A beautiful decor very well presented with a wonderful couple who know how to host extremely well.
- Lorelle (10/5): VILLA ROUGE - a home away from home. - Superb hosts and accommodation. Great breakfasts. Noel kindly set up the home theatre so that we could view the All Blacks game and other Sky programmes. We had lovely conversations with both Noel and Di. You MUST light the fire in your private lounge. Effective and it contributes to the ambience of what is a beautiful home. Di and Noel, thanks for sharing with us. Absolutely nothing!
- Olivier (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matthew (10/5): - amazing !
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a villa that was transform the moment u walk through the door with a mix of old n new decoration n lighting.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was very homely, comfortable and well appointed with tea and coffee making facilities and home baking in the bedroom. The hosts, Noel and Di, were very friendly and helpful with good suggestions of where to see and where to eat. I liked the fact that we had the front half of the house to ourselves with our own parlour/lounge with a home movie screen and an pen fire making it very homely and relaxing. The bedroom was large and the bed very comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was also large, modern and well appointed with bath and shower. The property has two bedrooms which are only let out to families or friends travelling together so you are not sharing your facilities with strangers.
- Garry (10/5): Extraordinary and a must stay experience - Words and images cannot relay how much we have enjoyed our stay with Noel and Diana at their Bed and Breakfast. Great engaging hosts in their c.1910 villa which is warm and extremely comfortable with modern mod cons. The interior rooms ( bed rooms, movie room, breakfast room, kitchen, entrance hall, library) have so much tastefull attention to detail that it's a marvellous world of art gallery discovery in every room. We have never have experienced such an amazing B&B in our worldly travels as this. Noel is the pro on the cooked breakfasts and coffees. The bedroom has an alcove with fridge and hot drinks facilities. Diana is the bright shining star and a marvellous welcoming host. Within minutes one feels part of Diana's and Noels family. The house has had 40 years of love and care. On our next visit to Invercargill this is the place to stay.
.
- Claire (10/5): - Such a beautiful room and lovely friendly helpful hosts. The bath made it an extra treat after a long day travelling
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a wonderful venue for a homely and personalised stay!
Lovely hosts, quiet and safe location. Bed was a bit hard on my injured back. Highly recommended.
- Sam (10/5): - We experienced such a warm welcome from our hosts who instantly made us feel at home. The accommodation is so full of character and beautifully presented, with our own lounge to relax in with movies and books galore. Our bedroom was spacious with tea/coffee/fridge/homemade treats and some complimentary beverages - the bed was comfortable - and the location was central yet so quiet. It was bliss to relax in the claw foot bath in the lovely large bathroom and soak away my tiredness. The generosity of spirit is everywhere with little touches and considerations. Breakfast in the morning was brilliant - scrambled eggs and bacon with homemade bread (toast), preserves, cereals, fruit and yoghurt. We loved every minute of our stay and would return in a moment!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Diana is a great host!
- Meegan (10/5): Superb Accommodation - Everything about this accommodation is exceptional. The room and amnesties to the location to the hosts and the breakfast. The detail in every aspect of the stay was finite. They thought beyond what you would want to have in your room and it was magnificent. The accommodation is within walking distance of great food and parks, had great Wi-Fi and privacy. It had your own sitting room and the furnishings were incredible. The hosts excelled themselves at all times and when we are next in that location we wouldn't stay anywhere else. An experience that we recommend to all. You would be mad not to book this accommodation and experience it for yourself.
- Patricia (10/5): Must stay again. - Wonderful stay! Beautiful home and lovely couple who, quite honestly, pampered me!

- Michael (10/5): Gold standard B&B - We’ve stayed in some very nice places on this trip, but this one is our new gold standard for B&B’s.
The owners, Noel and Diana Bonisch are a delightful couple who made us feel welcome immediately, and we loved talking with them at length.
Their wonderfully renovated, furnished, and decorated 1910 Victorian home looks delightful and feels very comfortable. The décor theme is French, which multiple hung paintings portrayed wonderfully.
Their lush yard, garden, and greenhouse give their establishment an extra good ambience.
The nearby restaurant they recommended (Buster Crabbs) was excellent.
Delicious breakfast that included cooked fresh rhubarb from their garden.
- christine (10/5): Top class - Fantastic House , so special and comfortable . Nothing was to much trouble for the hosts , they made us feel very welcome , wanted to stay longer
