- Kate (10/5): Fabulous, historic charm - Beautiful period property, with every comfort, so tastefully decorated with luxurious beds, linen, pillows, towels etc. Everything was spotlessly clean and this is clearly a very well run hotel. We loved the bikes, the self serve breakfast and the easy parking. A perfect place to stay to explore Charleston. Our room was slightly smaller and darker than I expected - the piazza king. I chose it because of access to the porch but perhaps we’d have chosen another room with the benefit of hindsight. But this is a townhouse property with trees surrounding and shading it, which is also part of the charm.

Beautifully styled, so comfortable, fantastic service, loved the honor bars located in several places and the house-made breakfast goodies including yogurt … next time I’ll be bringing a swim suit to dip in the heated or cooled pool depending on the season … the owners and staff are so knowledgeable and make everything easy as pie. Gorgeous porches to enjoy the Lowcountry lifestyle. Perfection!

- meredyp (10/5): Comfortable Retreat in Downtown Charleston - My wife and I took a delayed anniversary trip to Charleston, SC in late October/early November. 86 Cannon had been recommended to us, and having never been to Charleston, we gladly accepted the recommendation. Upon arrival we were offered champagne by Alana and Evangaline, who greeted us warmly. The property is a beautifully restored classic Charleston home near many of the attractions and restaurants in the downtown district. The evening wine and cheese made for an enjoyable pre-dinner treat. Our room was a comfortable restored attic room (room 5). Though the weather was cool, we did utilize the great heated pool and pool amenities. We also took advantage of the complimentary bikes to ride around downtown and visit many of the historic neighborhoods. Overall we were very pleased with our stay at 86 Cannon. Highly recommended if you are looking for accommodations in the downtown area.

Won’t go back to the bigger hotels after staying here! The staff is so accommodating, the beds are like clouds, each room has its own historic vibe with a fresh twist and the pool area is lovely. The property is so cute & walkable to a lot of different restaurants & they also provide bikes you can take out as well. The property has 10 rooms and they hosted a wine & cheese tasting every night so it was fun to meet the other couples staying in the property and chat with them. Overall the atmosphere was very warm and inviting, from both the staff and other guests! Our room was gorgeous! We ended up getting upgraded to the room overlooking the pool and it was so cute and everything was so clean! Everything about our experience was 10/10 & I I would recommend this stay to anyone looking for a romantic weekend getaway in Charleston!

We were able to walk / ride the Linus bicycles all throughout the city. Perfect spot for our romantic getaway.

First being greeted by the lovely Alana who explained all the amenities that 86 Cannon had to offer: a European breakfast every morning, a cheese and wine get-together everyday at 5pm, bicycles to ride around Charleston and best of all a salt water pool. We stayed in the Garden Suite. It was so beautifully decorated. Everything is very light and airy. The bed was unbelievable. We told the owner, Laurie that we wanted to pack it up in our suitcase and take it home! There is a large patio right outside our door with several sitting arrangements and soft jazz playing in the background. I sat out there many mornings before heading up for breakfast. We also meet Lizzy, a transplant from Illinois, who worked at the front desk. My husband and I enjoyed many conversations with her while enjoying the wine and cheese at 5. We were given great recommendations for places to eat and drink. We also meet Evangelina, who also works the front desk on our last night at the wine and cheese get together. Again, we enjoyed wonderful conversations with her. I complemented the owner Laurie on the wonderful job she did hiring these third lovely young ladies. We cannot wait to go back.

We spent beautiful mornings enjoying Charleston and then cooled off in the pool during the afternoon. I was originally concerned about being away from the King Street, Broad, Meeting area, but the neighborhood was precious with awesome restaurants. We used their bikes to see the city like we never have before. The property is gorgeous, and as an interior designer, I appreciated their attention to every detail. High-end, classy, traditional, quiet, and an exceptional example of Charleston luxury. Enjoying a froze from co-op across the street while sitting on the front porch was an added perk! Would stay hear over a hotel any day.

The owners have thought of everything and they hired the absolute best people to staff this epic "hotel". You will not regret staying here, I promise!! (I also forgot my phone charger upon checkout - they found it and are shipping it back to me. This place is truly so far beyond expectations on so many levels!)

We stay solely at “Boutique Hotels” or “Bed and Breakfasts” in amazing locations and still 86 Cannon tops them all! It is in a beautiful, historic, laid back setting yet it has all the amenities…a delicious breakfast that can be eaten in the main house cafe, outside on the porch or in your room. There’s a small onsite pool with a pool house that includes a shower, restroom and beverages. There’s a wine and cheese pairing offered each evening and chocolates are left on the doorknob. In addition, bikes are offered for your enjoyment as well as water bottles (which were a lifesaver in the humidity of early June. Besides all of the wonderful amenities, the design and decor of 86 Cannon are beautifully put together. I look forward to returning in the future.

The contact pre-arrival with details was perfect and we were notified when our room was available. Evangeline welcomed us to the property and provided the information necessary for our stay and some local recommendations. The breakfast provided felt very personal with the homemade yogurt, granola and fresh berries. The pool/pool house was impeccably maintained and the honor bar offered great options at reasonable prices. We recognize that it takes a team to make 86 Cannon work and were acutely aware of the discrete process which was not intrusive for the guests.

We really enjoyed Charleston and 85 Cannon was a convenient walk to the center of town yet located in a developing neighborhood away from the traffic and city noise. The breakfasts were delightful and included quiche, homemade yogurt, very fresh berries, coffee, tea and hard boiled eggs and also an earthy bread for toast. There was also fresh juice in hand filled bottles for individual portions. A nice addition were national and local newspapers. We stayed in a garden suite which was very spacious and the bed was a wonderful luxury. Our room included a mini fridge and both a coffee maker and a hot water maker for tea. Bottled water was also provided. Hosts were very helpful either making reservations or recommendations for dining or activities. We read about 85 Cannon on Afar a great travel site focused on getting you closer to the less touristy side of a destination. The facility was spotless and very sanitary. We were very happy with our stay. No elevator, but there are first floor accommodations. We highly recommend 85 Cannon.

The owners and staff were super friendly and helpful pointing us in the right direction for everything we wanted to do for our stay in the city. I would recommend this for a luxurious getaway. Wasn't a huge problem for us and it is to be expected in such an old building but worth pointing out in case this bothers you (or you could ask to not be in that room).

Hoteling has changed quite a bit, and service is not at all what it used to be, but 86 Cannon sets the standard, and they have policies that support a great experience that many hotels don't have. The property is outstanding. I spent quite a bit of time soaking in the sun on one of two glorious piazzas. They also have a library on the third floor. The hotel feels like home and I had to resist the urge to walk about the property in my pajamas and bed slippers. It's quiet, clean, and restorative. The staff was incredible, and I have to give a special shoutout to Megan and Karly for being so kind and attentive to all things all the time. I'm vegan and I had an injury that needed ice and they kindly helped me get situated. The location is nestled in a quieter part of downtown yet within walking distance of shops and restaurants. If you want to experience hotelier excellence, stay here. It's a great reminder of how travel should be. If you want an elevator or in-room microwaves or refrigerators, then you might need a more standard stay. I would challenge you though to let go and immerse yourself in a historic experience. Parking is $29 per day, which is a bit of a bummer but for a guaranteed space it's %100 worth it.
