- flafla_06 (10/5): Always a lovely place to stay! - I was back at Agterplaas after 3 years from my last visit and it was the first time with the new owners: this is always a lovely place to stay before or after safari. Annemie is very nice and kind and so is her young daughter Ava. Breakfast is always very lekker and they still cook fatcakes and spicy minced meat as per Badia’s recipe, the former chef now retired. We were given a very big room with a small balcony on the other side of the street and we had private parking. I’m looking forward my next visit there.

Agterplaas provide accommodation, breakfast and dinners for our guests. They welcomed the guests warmly and made them feel at home and left them with an excellent feel for Johannesburg and South Africa.

It is a wonderful place to stay both due to the excellent facilities and the extremely friendly staff. From my arrival to my departure, I was made to feel at home and given loads of friendly advice and support. The food was incredible too! Truly one of the best guesthouses I've ever stayed in.

We enjoy especially that it was possible to walk outside to restaurants and pubs nearby even at night. This is not everywhere possible in Johannesburg, as I understand. Melville is a small cosy bohemian district of the town that is nice to stay. Enjoy!
- Compass66755999162 (10/5): Comfort, style, story - I cannot recommend Agterplaas highly enough. Our room was cool and comfortable with antique furniture and accoutrements a stylish touch. Elroy and Annemie are such gracious hosts, and incredible cooks too! (Filet on the braai for dinner with chili-chocolate sauce, then fresh vetkoek, bacon and eggs for breakfast – what a treat!) The dining room was our favourite place to hang out at the guesthouse, where stories of its twenty-five year history could be heard over malva pudding and glasses of wine. Sitting on the balcony that overlooks the koppies in the late afternoon winter sun was an added pleasure. Can't wait to return!

- Londonm42 (10/5): Comfy stopover in Jo'burg - Breakfast at De Agterplaas was great with a range of fruit, cereal, home-made bread and pastries and a nice choice of cooked breakfasts included in the room rate. The owners and staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Jannie, the owner, provided a great recommendation for a local guide. We didn't need it but late check out was offered. The B&B itself is situated on a nice residential street and has an annexe across the road which is where we stayed. The room style is a little dated but very comfortable. Melville has suffered from lower business post Covid so the local centre is not 'buzzy' but still has some nice cafés and shops.

The Melville area is nice and reassuring neighborhood in Johanessburg. Beside the kindness of all the B&B team, the 7th street with its restaurant, pastry and shopping street make it unique.
