Guest Reviews
- W7748JIjohnm (2/5): Nightmare on elm street - This place is a disgusting health trap AND should be shut down on health and safety alone. Dirty, mouldy, condensation damage, rotting wooden frames, water leaks even coming through light fittings in rooms, insect infested, place smells like a sewer that the owner ( cowboy midget man) when high tides, who couldn't rum a bath let alone a business, treats his staff like slaves and insults, as for the manager who blames everyone for everything and couldn't manage to change her socks without instructions.. sounds most of her time either on holiday or busy doing nothing... I have stayed in better tents than this absolute joke of a hotel..
- John (10/5): - Great location, very friendly staff - all were very helpful and accommodating. Food was great! Meals in the restaurant were very good - dinner menu is huge, breakfasts were good sized and offered different options.
- J3971DKphilipr (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE!!! - This hotel is absolutely dreadful! It should be closed down by the health department. Black mold and swollen window casings in the room. Unlit hallways with crumbling plaster. Water damaged ceilings. The dining area smells like cat urine. Rugs are filthy. Wires and cords running across floors. Gross, gross place for £195/night! I was robbed!!
- K8095YObriang (2/5): Institutional , dirty and unhealthy - Do not stay here ! This hotel should be closed by the health department! Black mold on widows , mildew , the restaurant smells like cat urine. The hallways are left dark with the lights turned off so you can’t see the black stains on the carpet and the crumbling plaster . While some attempt has been made in bathrooms to modernize the beds and rest of the room is shabby and uncomfortable. The dinning room is dilapidated with worn furniture and stained walls cracked tile floors and bad food. The restaurant would do well to focus on one cuisine and do that well rather than include Chinese, Mexican, Italian and Mexican along with British. I hate giving bad reviews but for £195 a night this hotel needs to do better it felt like staying in an institution.
- jimmI9517RU (4/5): Take away - Had a chicken jalfrezi from the take away
Tasted like a jar of uncle bens sweet and sour
Had good Indian meals in the past but this was not enjoyable
- 355hannahr (2/5): Be cautious about takeouts - An awful takeout. Soggy cold chips, a korma that was like water and pakora that was not like any pakora I’ve ever had. Rock hard (I bounced it off my plate to amuse my wife). Not the worst I’ve ever had but VERY close. I’ll not be back I can assure you.?
- Ronald (10/5): - The chef is extraordinarily brilliant!!!
The chef makes the Hotel extraordinary.
The chef's curries are exquisite.
The chef's black pudding is to die for!
Exquisite food.
- 634rossd (8/5): Really Enjoyable Stay - Hi, stayed here on business for two consecutive nights last week July 2025. Hotel was comfortable and very friendly. The food was amazing, especially the Indian food. Excellent. Staff could not be more helpful. Special mention to Lantern. A real asset for The County Hotel. Looking forward to my next visit. Thank you.
- Skyegirl51 (6/5): They need to spend some of the money they must be making! - Called in for lunch. Enjoyed a chicken and noodles stir fry which was tasty with just enough spice.
Friendly staff
The decor is awful and no character whatsoever, some of the chairs are well used and material cracking. The background music apart from being awful was too loud for lunchtime .
- Haydon (4/5): - The bottom of the quilt cover was all ripped up and couldn’t be buttoned up. The carpet in the hallway was damaged with a big cut through it which I tripped on when my foot slipped through it while walking to my room. There was a ‘private bathroom’ (staff only maybe?) outside my room where somebody was loudly doing some kind of maintenance work until about midnight. You can hear everything going on in the rooms around you including talking, snoring and bathroom usage. The TV remote was barely responsive (it wasn’t the batteries as I also tried with my own new batteries). The first morning I woke up to this really intense smell of Indian food, I guess they were preparing dishes but the smell was so strong on the floor I was staying on that I had to open my room window. The second morning I was woken by somebody trying to get into my room until I called out that I was inside, I assume it was staff trying to reset the room without realising I hadn’t checked out yet. The private parking is a small area of gravel behind the hotel between their bins and the laundry area of the hostel next door which didn’t feel secure or private. The two nights cost me 300 pounds which was $623 Australian dollars. For comparison, I could stay in the Hilton Hotel in Sydney’s city centre for three nights for around the same cost.
- Douglas (8/5): - Shower was a bit small.
- William James (10/5): - Lovely friendly clean hotel with staff who are prepared to make your stay a comfortable relaxing experience. Nice stay with comfortable bed, great breakfast.
- jackiedan93 (2/5): Laughable! AVOID - The staff were 10 out of 10 incredibly pleasant but unfortunately the only redeeming feature.
The dining area smelled concerning upon entering (presumably wafting from the kitchen) and the chicken madras left a lot to be desired in that it was neither pleasant nor had any identifiable kick beyond ginger and over stewed coriander.
The naan was stodgy and over fired in places. The pilau rice unusually greasy. The curry itself .. where do I start.. so fundamentally unbalanced I felt compelled to leave a crisis helpline number with the bill! And I'm being quite serious when I ask this, is the chef okay?..
The cardinal sin had to be the undercooked chicken and the side of thick curly dark hair I pulled out of the curry sauce... man alive.
All together a health and hygiene nightmare and I would strongly advise against eating here. This meal gave me depression.
Poppadoms were nae bad, though I'm sure those are ordered in.
- Passenger08826401977 (2/5): Terrible! - I went for dinner and putting it simply, it was the worst curry I have ever had. So salty it was really quite unbelievable! It was sent back to the kitchen and the chef agreed that it was far too salty....but nothing other than an apology. Still charged full whack. Support local? I don't think so!
- Jill C (10/5): - This is a charming older hotel with updated rooms and bathrooms. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food in the dining room is excellent.
- foster1605 (4/5): I don't expect Buckingham Palace but I do expect value for money. - £180.00 a night????This hotel was not worth our money. Mold on most of the wood on the window, cracked pains, flaking paint. Bed side lights not working. Poor shower if the person in neighbouring room was using theirs at same time. Unpleasant food smell in room corridor and the room while we were there.
Stopped serving European food around 7.30pm then it was only Chinese or Indian, we only ate there one night, the starter was very good but the rest of the meal was poor. At breakfast, which was adequate, there was food on the floor from dinner service the night before.
The staff were very good and friendly but the Hotel needs work. Management need to check cleaning in all areas and state of the furniture.
- mazamac80 (10/5): Outstanding food! Absolutely beautiful. 10/10 - We were a group of 5 adults and 1 child. One of the best meals I've had at a reastaurant and every one in the group agreed. The food was hot, fresh and cooked to perfection. Portion sizes were amazing, excellent value for money. Serving staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The place was spotless. I would highly recommend The County for food.
- Danielle (10/5): Tapadh leibh - The staff couldnt have been more helpful and friendly. The room was clean. I look forward to staying at The County Hotel again.
- vickyfO8008EF (10/5): Fantastic to stay and eat - We stayed one night at this hotel and it is a hidden gem. The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff weref friendly and welcoming. There is an extensive menu for dinner. The Indian cuisine is superb and authentic. The best you can get! I would highly recommend this place.
- jimbirnie513 (10/5): Excellent food and service - Visited the restaurant in this hotel today, a warm welcome when we entered from Mr MacRitchie the owner.
He was very much hands on checking on tables etc. the service was excellent and the food was amazing. Beautiful
Fish and chips and Mac and cheese, all served piping hot,the apple pie and Banoffi pie were to die for. The food was excellent value for money, served quickly and efficiently. The toilet was immaculate, spotlessly clean. Do not hesitate to visit
This establishment with great access for disabled, well done.very accessible from the town centre

- Verified traveler (4/5): Glad to Have a Room - The location near the ferry in Stornaway was great. The hotel itself is very dated and in need of renovation. The stairwell smelled STRONGLY of cat urine. Our room didn’t have working heat, and when we asked, we were given a space heater with the warning that “it tends to melt” and to turn it off before leaving the room or when sleeping because they “didn’t want the hotel to burn down.” That said, it was the last room left in town and we were grateful to get it!
- Carrie (10/5): - Convenient walking distance from the train. Only complaint is that the shower was so tiny!!!!
- Craig (10/5): - All areas of the hotel were clean, room was spotless and comfortable. Shower wasn't great by hotel standards but adequate. Staff were all excellent, very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was great and really set us up for the day and evening menu was very varied. We ate there twice, once with 5 people, once with 3 and all had something different. Everyone really enjoyed their choices which ran from European to Indian and Chinese dishes so great consistency of quality across the menu. I would recommend the County Hotel to anyone looking for a relaxed base to explore the beautiful islands of Lewis and Harris.
- Gideon (10/5): Great Little Hotel Dead Center Stornoway - Fantastic host and excellent food. Could not have been more comfortable and was a perfect spot for my basecamp for exploring Harris and Lewis. Loved this place.
- hans (10/5): - Limited parking
- Margaret (6/5): - Friendly staff.
The rooms are meant to be cleaned every second day but mine wasn't touched in the five nights I was there and I had to ask for another towel, as I'd put my damp towel on the floor as one usually does.
What I didn't like was Expedia not the hotel, for Expedia charged me 2/3 of the cost when I booked but didn't pass this on to the owner of the hotel. I can't check my credit card statement until I get back home mid-May, so don't know if I've been double charged!
- kb0wman (10/5): Simple nice old hotel - Simple basic old hotel who couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly
Clean and tidy no frills hotel 2 stars seams harsh and stayed in far worse hotels with 3-4 stars. Its used a lot for commercial travelers but a comfortable bed for few nights does the job and staff were all great.
Dinner with both traditional menu and full curry house menu was added bonus!
- yummy123625 (10/5): Best curry on the island - We went for a meal on Friday at 5pm. Ordered from the Indian menu.
Onion bhaji and chicken pakora, both were really good.
For the mains we both had chicken madras with pilau rice and 2 naan breads.
The madras was gorgeous, the naan are the best on the island too.
We couldn't finish it all as it was too much for us but we did give it a good go.
Not a bad price either.
This is my 3rd time eating here and I've not been disappointed.
- jimbirnie513 (10/5): Beautiful home made food - Visited this hotel for the first time today. A very warm welcome from the staff and the owner. The restaurant is nice ,bright and airy. The toilets are immaculate. The food was delicious home made food. Gorgeous lasagne an beautiful steak pie. Served piping hot. Don’t hesitate to visit this restaurant .
- I5600UErobertw (8/5): Great people - The staff at the County Hotel in Stornoway are wonderful. They go out of their way to be helpful. Unfortunately we were ill when we arrived and the staff were very kind in making our stay as as comfortable as possible. The hotel restauant also offers good Indian food.
- James (8/5): - GENERALLTYCLEAN AND COMFORTABLE. ////OUTSIDE WINDOW GLASS WAS A LITTLE DIRTY BUT DID NOT INFLUENCE OTHER FACTORS
- Verified traveler (4/5): A general air of decay about the place - Very tired/dated hotel. Room was tiny, bed uncomfortable and there was a bad smell in the corridor.
- michelinehbrannan (10/5): An excellent town centre hotel, very convenient for business or tourism - We were exploring Stornoway for 3 days and chose the County Hotel because of convenience for the ferry and the town centre. We knew there was restricted parking but there are ways of getting round this and the hotel staff are very happy to advise. The stand-out for us was the friendliness, helpfulness and courtesy of all the staff and their genuine to desire to help us get the most out of our stay. The breakfast and meal options were to a very high standard, with genuine ethnic chefs in the kitchen. Although meals are not served on Sunday (except breakfast) we were happy to see the staff get a break on the Lord's Day, which is so important in Lewis. They will accommodate guests bringing a take away to eat at the hotel and will advise about other dining options.
- Micheline (10/5): - We absolutely loved the County Hotel. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The location is perfect for exploring Stornoway which is a small and walkable town. The staff were extremely kind, courteous and helpful - really friendly and full of excellent advice, going the extra mile. Sunday in Stornoway is very special and there is not much open but the hotel continued to provide breakfast and refreshments throughout the day and facilities for having a take away as well as advice where to find one. There were alternative venues for dinner nearby and we were pleased to see the staff get a rest on the all important Lord's Day. Parking is one issue as it is not clear if parking restrictions will be enforced on the street and there is only a small car park. While it is possible to have a car and stay at this hotel, it is probably most convenient for foot passengers.
- Robert (2/5): Not to be recommended I’m afraid - We were very disappointed right from entering the hotel. Furniture was disgraceful all worn and basically done ready for the tip. Would certainly not recommend and the rate per night was outrageous for the state of the hotel. Staff were nice and breakfast was reasonable. Sorry probably one of the worst hotels I have stayed in for £204 per night for 2 night.
- -ijapbnblm (4/5): Poor customer care / consideration. A non returning customer. - Up on the island on holiday and wandering through the town looking for somewhere to have a lite dinner. Dined here. Not the cleanest, floors could do with a good wash. Staff were nice. Provided with a menu each and we noticed differences in price for the same meal on both menus.Service was good. For what we had, the food was over priced and nothing really healthy to choose from. We ordered and there was a difference in the cost of the meal on both menus. We didn’t finish our meal. Got the bill and queried the different prices and raised awareness of this with staff and proved a photo of the menus and price differences. We had to pay the higher price. Apparently there had been a menu update and there was nothing they could do whilst at the same time, another member of staff was looking for the menu with the price difference to take it out of service. They could have and should and honoured the cheaper price. Standard of food - poor. Customer care / consideration - non evident. Would I return - no.
- SANDY (8/5): - The staff was quite nice to us, helping find places to visit. The location worked out well.
- Jacqueline (4/5): - We actually didn’t end up staying after viewing the room. It was fairly run down and not as expected based on the reviews we had seen. It was clean and the management was friendly and accommodating. We insisted on paying a default penalty as we felt bad about our poor choice. Just not for us. We were able to find alternative accommodation out of the town center that suited us better. It was more expensive.
- 526gs526 (8/5): Good place to eat - I have never stayed at the hotel but this review is based on the food. They menu has a massive choice. It doesnt matter what you pick the food is amazing. A big shout out for the curries. They are amazing, as is the fish and chips.
- AngusMitchell88 (4/5): Food hit/miss, staff shocking! - Went for a birthday dinner for family, honest review on the food, there was 12 of us for dinner, the overall consensus wasn't great, the curries were really nice. That's where it ended, I can only review my immediate family's food, I had a curry and it was perfect. My partner and auntie had lasagna and it was disgusting, it was dry and unedible, these things happen, my partner is alot quieter than me and wouldnt say, so I informed the waitress that the lasagna was unedible. This is where things got a bit bizarre, she first ignored me, so I said it again, both meals hadn't been touched, they were like 2 bricks on a plate. Then proceeded to stare at me and respond with, "what do you want me to do about that". Long story short we paid the full meal, which amounted to over £300 all together. The rudeness was completely unnecessary and writing this review would I recommend the County for food, probably not, not for the food but for the obnoxious staff, training in public relations required
- Curious04752376638 (6/5): Diamond in the extreme rough! - First off, the food in the restaurant is delicious!!
The room is a work in progress but had clean sheets and towels
The short , rude, mean hotel owner is why I would never return.
Unbelievably terrible experience and really inexcusable to treat a guest or anyone else the way he does
- SHARON (2/5): - One night booking made for a business trip. Prior to arrival I was contacted by hotel to ask why I hadn't shown up the previous day - I explained my booking was only for 1 night not 2 and had been paid in advance on Hotels.com. Upon arrival I was taken to a single room - my reservation confirmation clearly shows I booked a double room. At check out they also tried to charge me for a 2 night stay. In addition please see images of the hotel room which was really dated and not clean with a massive hole in the wall. Neither I or any of my colleagues will book this hotel again when in Stornoway. AVOID!!!!
- jim (8/5): - Good location, good food. Friendly staff
- Maxton77 (2/5): Awful - Came here for a birthday dinner with family,
Service was shocking, food wasnt very good, our order was wrong and some of the food never arrived. Out of all the waitresses Emma was lovely, the supervisors haven't a clue how to deal with customers or their staff they are suppose to be training, the way they spoke to their staff in front of customers was embarrassing & unnecessary. The attitude towards customers was awful because they were told the food was wrong. There was one particular waitress her attitude was ridiculous and rude, not only was our experience with our dinner ruined but the chairs were not fit for purpose, they had wobbly legs on at least 5 of the chairs at our table ,and the table beside us had a chair collapse and the man fell to the floor, unfortunately the last 2 times I have been here the service was poor and food was not good, I will not return here and won't be recommending the restaurant either,we were a large party and everyone of us was disgusted at the experience.
- debbiestupid (10/5): Amazing - Arrived at hotel and booking company had messed up everything thanks to the wonderful staff isbhel and rachel the problem was sorted. Food is amazing and staff are so friendly and helpfull would definatley recommend for a stay on stornoway.
- scott1312 (10/5): The County Hotel - Always a warm welcome from Shaunie and his team.
In the heart of Stornoway.
Been here 4 times now and back in 3 weeks , see you soon guys 👍🏼.
The food menu is vast and never had a bad meal yet ….. oh yeah the Indian meals are top notch 😋
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Free breakfast was good. Very close to ferry terminal which we had to be at early in the morning.
- Meggan (10/5): - Great location in the town centre, easy to walk anywhere from the hotel location.
- Scolmore (2/5): Terrible condition! - Room was in an unacceptable state of repair. Mould everywhere in the bathroom and in the room.
- Janet (10/5): - On a main street in Stornoway, this hotel is close to various eating areas and has a good restaurant in the hotel. My room was large and comfortable.
The hotel, however, is a bit overpriced!
- Robin (8/5): - Very friendly- good food - good location. Hotel just a little tired but comfortable.
- Dale (8/5): - It was ok, nice staff and all but our bedroom and bathroom windows had black mold around all the edges. That’s our only complaint.
- Susan (10/5): - This hotel retains original island character while offering modern basic amenities for heating, baths, Wi-Fi service. The associated bar and restaurant was delicious with a very broad menu including excellent Asian fare. The staff was friendly, helpful, welcoming. Excellent choice for several days stay on the Island- more convenient for visiting multiple sites.
- Raymond (8/5): - Check in was lovely. Offered immediate upgrade due to volume of luggage!
Due to extreme dietary requirements my needs were complex. They went right out of their way to accommodate me.
The bath in the room was enjoyed
- PAUL (10/5): - Hotel a short walk from ferry terminal. Easy to walk any where in town. Short but very enjoyable stay. highly recommended
- Gemma (8/5): - comfortable and friendly stay
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Rooms & hotel shabby & dated. No hot water throughout stay-
- Lee (2/5): Theft - I booked this hotel for work via hotels.com at a rate of 55 GBP per night. When i checked in i queried how i would pay as i was leaving early for the ferry and was told my card would be charged. The manager queried where id got my rates from as they werent the usual rates. When i returned home i found that id been charged 75GBP per night for my stay. This amounts to nothing less than premeditated theft. The hotel staff have refused to issue a refund. Needless to say i'm taking this further but id say avoid thid place like the plague
- Alan (8/5): Good - Nice enough hotel although it is well overdue a renovation.
Bed was comfortable and staff were friendly.
- Corey (10/5): Great for a stopover on a road trip! - Great stay! Super comfy bed, big room, quick check in and Covid safety aware. Stayed one night as a stop over, would recommend!
- Wardy (10/5): - Lovely clean hotel in the centre with super freindly staff and lovely food.
- Michael (10/5): - Very nice hotel. Staff are extremely nice, lady that checked us in to our room was very professional but extremely friendly. The man who served breakfast was again very friendly. The hotel is clean and very tidy, with the rooms being of a high standard. Absolutely no issues and would recommend to anyone staying in Stornoway.
- Helen (10/5): - Very close to ferry terminal and other amenities. Breakfast was easily the best we have ever had.
- Alistair (10/5): - The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. Our room had been recently refurbished. Clean, comfortable and spacious.
- Nicky (6/5): Not a great stay but food was excellent - Booked a ‘buisness single’ which is supposed to be a 3/4 double, however was allocated a small single room.
Didn’t get much sleep as there was very noisy pipe work running through the room and was kept awake by very loud running water.
Shower was extremely small.
The room was dated but clean.
Food was excellent however so complements to the chef. The Indian food was some of the best I’ve had in Scotland.
Probably wouldn’t stay again but will definitely visit for a meal.
- Grant (10/5): - Staff friendly rooms clean food decent
Carpets on stairs a bit tired apart from that a good stay
- Janet (8/5): Traditional in Stornoway - Nice hotel which has been undergoing refurbishment but with nice original features like the lovely staircase. Very helpful staff. Lovely breakfast and dinner. Good choice of menu. Room had been refurbished so was fresh and clean with new en suite and carpet. Very comfortable bed. Furntiure was a bit tired but adequate. The only downside was the noise level from outside and within the hotel which was partly due to it being in the town centre so close to Christmas and there being a function room on the floor below but would help if double glazing was fitted and more soundproof internal room doors as I could hear the occupant next door talking on his phone most of the night and the noise appeared to be travelling down the corridor through the doors rather than through the walls. I would definitely consider staying here again as it is also very convenient for ferry and the arts centre, though probably not the weekend before Christmas.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location is great. Beds comfortable and room was large. Bathroom was nice. Hotel is older and good use an update but the room is great for what you need it for. Sleep and relax in the evening. Limited parking in the back. 4-5 spots available. Breakfast was good!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - There was a smell of urine and there wasn't any heaters in bathroom
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Dusty room, blind looked like was cut with a blunt kitchen knife, chair in room broken, flaking paint.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very comfortable here, good central location and Shonnie and Norma were very friendly and helpful.
- Barbara (10/5): - The staff was so accommodating regarding helping us with our bags there is no lift. We loved our stay the food was excellent & the staff was very helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is a great location in the Heart of Stornoway. It's easy to walk everywhere including Lews Castle. And its a nice walkable town, not a city.
The hotel has had a lot of upgrades but it is a old building so its a work in progress. Our room was compact but very adequate. It did have a tiny shower. The bed was good. The room was generally quite. It is in the town center so a little bit of late night noise but nothing serious.
The breakfast was good and we had a good Saturday night Indian dinner.
All in all a very good stay with a hands on owner to look after us.
- Stephen (10/5): Make your way to stornoway - I do an annual trip to the island first time stayed at this hotel older style property rooms well decorated good hot shower restaurant food was good however Limited menu was a wild night therefore I stayed in hotel to eat .Decent value for money booked through hotels . Com
- Verified traveler (6/5): - property slightly run down, need new carpets and additional cleaning
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No elevator to the top floor, plenty stairs to climb!
Good charm about the place.
Early checkout would be beneficial to align with ferry timings.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean rooms. Issue with shower water temperature and pressure. Upstairs carpet needs replacing. Bar and dining areas okay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The initial impression was that the property was very run down. Staircase carpets were very dirty. However the bedroon was fine. Quite clean and good quality towels etc. Breakfast was good
- Philip (4/5): Tired and bad value - I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels but few as threadbare and tired as this. If I’d paid £70 for the room I’d have felt disappointed but paying £140 puts it up there in worst value stays I’ve experienced
- Donald (10/5): Limited parking (3 spaces) - Nice , older downtown hotel
- Alan (10/5): Very Good - Very good hotel. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Food was excellent and staff were friendly and welcoming.
I had no problems at all and really enjoyed my stay. I will book again when back on the island.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect place to walk around and see Stornoway. Staff were amazing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel has a excellent location. Cozy room e very clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - property was clean & tidy but in entry, dining and bar area looking a bit tired. Breakfast was fantastic and staff very helpful. no double glazing meant outside noise was loud.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Central location and very comfortable bed. En-suite was compact but shower was powerful.
Some carpets and furnishings in communal areas were a bit shabby but this was overshadowed by the welcoming staff.
- Mark (10/5): If in Stornoway, be sure to book this place. - Great staff, coffee and breakfast. Very decent bar. The staff really went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and happy. Could not have been better!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was super nice and friendly, and the hotel clean, but quite shabby and in need of upgrades.
- A (6/5): - Great location and very helpful staff. Room was lovely, clean and warm.
- R (8/5): - Great
- Verified traveler (8/5): Characterful hotel - Quite a characterful hotel . Staff very pleasant, room clean, food good. However the public areas bit run down. The stair and corridor carpet was quite discoloured.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The County Hotel was clean and comfortable. Central location was very convenient. Staff were helpful and checkin was quick and easy.
- Jess (6/5): - The fact that parking was advertised and there wasn't was really annoying. Also the conection to wifi, could only be obtained from the bar.
- Martin (4/5): - Arrived off the evening ferry to find the front door locked and the lights mostly off. Eventually got into the reception and checked in. Our designated room key was unavailable so after 15 mins of phoning around we were given another room. The room itself was clean, not bad actually, However there was no hot water for a shower. We arose in the morning early as we had to be out for 6am to once again discover no hot water to shower. Not really impressed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfort plus - Excellent location. Room with lovely large bed. Food adequate less available on Sat & Sundays. Staff friendly and courteous.
Only negative.... no help with luggage !! We were on the third floor long staircases. Not for mobility impaired persons.
Would definitely recommend.
- Redaro (4/5): - Entrance old and dirty...no lift for luggage. ...up 3 levels....floors nasty looking. ...reto rooms very nice
- Verified traveler (2/5): Old fashioned - Looked like room hadn’t been cleaned, head imprint in the cushion, dirty mugs, 30 years carpets that haven’t been cleaned in years, cooked breakfast tasted terrible almosted wanted to become a vegetarian.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Overpriced, clean hotel - Hotel clean, room had hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities and iron/ironing board provided when requested. Breakfast disappointing, stale croissants, no milk jugs with three cup tea and coffee pots so we had to keep going up to the serving area. Massively overpriced.
- Bonnie (8/5): Decent Place to Stay, Centrally Located - The County Hotel was a decent place to stay and centrally located in town. The building itself was quite old but the rooms were clean and tidy and the bathroom looked new (recently renovated). There is a small parking lot in back that could only fit 4 cars. Otherwise you’ll need to find street parking. They had a restaurant and bar in the hotel. The breakfast offerings were great and we had a nice meal.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Stayed overnight as was working on island for a day.
Very basic hotel.
Paper hanging from ceilings on stairway was hanging off.
Red carpet on stairs was filthy.
The food was ok, but was disappointed that no Indian food was available on the night I stayed.
Breakfast was good, cooked by staff before opening time as I was leaving early. They were accommodating and nice folks.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Mixed - Staff are brilliant. Good food at the restaurant. Only down.side.- 1 of the mattresses in room 1 felt like just springs. I have also.never seen a hallway and staircase carpet so ingrained.with dirt, not just worn. If this.was.cleaned.it would change the whole look and feel of the.hotel.
