- Yokoyama (10/5): -
- Lauren (10/5): - Such a lovely atmosphere and super friendly and welcoming thank you! Really cosy rooms, great location and plenty of shared showers
- Olivier (10/5): -
- Thorin D (10/5): Great location, great ryokan, and lovely experience - Lovely atmosphere, really friendly owners, and a nice fresh breakfast every day. Room was clean and toilets well maintained. Nothing, it is a great ryokan and would highly recommend
- Viktor (9/5): - Yoshi and Seongmi were very nice hosts and the accommodation has good location and the traditional vibe. Room was clean and spacious enough.
- Katrina (10/5): -
- NAQEEBULLAH (10/5): - The owners - a couple, were incredibly welcoming and supportive. The minute we entered the hotel, the owners sat us down explaining all the facilities, local restaurants, activities and even suggested we hire a car, which was an incredibly helpful suggestion (allowed us to explore parts of Nagano we simply could not with the available public transport) and pointed to the rental business. We ended up paying less the £25 for 12 hours with the best possible insurance.
This allowed us to visit the Nojiri lake and togakushi shrine, witnessing snow in spring. We visited out of season so not much was going on locally. But still a great stay.
- Harm (10/5): Excellent stay, would return again. - The breakfast included was sufficient and filling. The staff are helpful and full of recommendations. Their English language skills are excellent, which is helpful for those struggling with Japanese. The room is spacious and comfortable, as well as very clean. They offered to vaccuum our room while staying there as well.
- Jim (10/5): - Yoshi & Seongmi were amazing hosts. The household had an amazing vibe and I enjoyed meeting the passing interactions with the other guests who came for the snow. Was a wonderful experience.
The house had plenty of character showing off its history with a small store in the front lobby. As described in the listing, the building is an old renovated household that was built with material with limited insulation, be aware of noise and some rooms are naturally cold without a heater. This didnt bother me so much, but be aware of your tolerance for small background noise and consider earplugs. The hosts do set up space heaters to keep the common rooms warm for guests.

- Katie (10/5): - This accommodation was so lovely, great location and well designed. Yoshi and Seongmi were so friendly and helpful and really helped me get the most from my stay.
- Mollie (10/5): Brilliant, book it! - This is a traditional Japanese style inn (not sure it counts as a ryokan or not?!) with full size rooms, very comfy mattresses and bedding and owners who are all in heart and soul. It’s well located, walking distance from the train station even with luggage and to get wherever you’re going. Breakfast is light but well prepared daily and Yoshi is on it with all the information you might ever need (or not!) There are plentiful bathroom and shower options and although they don’t have an onsen they partner with several in town you can buy entry tickets for (there are also other options in town you can just pop into on your own.) The send you off with a parting gift if homemade soap. Really a lovely job they are doing. Nothing not to like really. Plenty of room in the room, options for places to hang out other than your room, lots of bathrooms and shower facilities. Immaculately clean
- Ferguson (8/5): Upgrade if you can, nice location, clean, & peaceful. - Nice location. But definitely book the bigger room with private bath. Worth the upgrade. Breakfast was a continental breakfast with toast & yogurt, coffee, tea,& juice. The property was run by a lovely couple, but Yoshi seemed annoyed by people asking questions about places to go or ski conditions. We were told, look on YouTube while he was sitting on his computer at the adjacent table. Seemed like a host would be more helpful.
- Dallas (10/5): -

- Ashley (10/5): Very relaxing and easy stay with wonderful hosts! - The location was great, very easy to walk around town to different restaurants, onsens and the train station. Our hosts were helpful and kind! The room was very comfortable and relaxing.

Great hotel location - everything is in 5min walk distance - shops, combini, train station, tasty restaurants!
Everything was excellent - the room, the check-in process, all the facilities.
We will absolutely stay at this place more and more times during our next visits. Everything was great!
- Linda (10/5): - Tolles Haus mit viel Liebe zum Detail, nettes Personal
- Kye (8/5): -
- Carla (10/5): - Everything was perfect!! AIBIYA itself is beautiful - incredibly clean too, decorated in a cosy and tasteful way, we just felt so relaxed. Plenty of bathrooms, each room really comfortable, bed was huge and we slept really well.
The owners, Seongmi and Yoshi, made our stay so memorable. The positive energy and recommendations gave us the best days!
- Childs (10/5): Great location amazing for skiing and a true Japanese experience - Great place Not sure maybe breakfast can have eggs cooked
- Kassandre (10/5): Warm and cozy in the mountains - Everything! Aibiya guesthouse was the break in the mountains I needed after travelling around for a few weeks. The house, the amenities, the breakfast, Yoshi and Seongmi are the sweetest people and always there to help you or give you advices.
- Petr (3/5): -
- Ni (10/5): Will back next time - Very clean and tidy! No
Yoshi e Seong Mi, accoglienti, professionali e pronti a darti consigli utili, ti fanno sentire veramente a casa, consigliatissima!
- Alison (10/5): - The hosts were really nice, spoke excellent English and had lots of great recommendations of where to go and what to see. The communal facilities were really good and the breakfast was lovely.
- Tyson (10/5): We had a wonderful time staying at the guesthouse and exploring the surrounding areas. - Very pleasant place to stay. Simple accommodations in a rustic small town. The owners did a great job renovating the building. Close to many tattoo friendly onsen. Close to snow monkey park and train/bus station. Comfortable mattress and spacious room with plenty of shelving and surfaces for our things. We only stayed a couple of nights. I can’t think of anything we didn’t like. It felt like the owners had everything figured out. Maybe having a couple of hooks or a retractable clothesline to hang more things in the room would have been useful.
- Janith (10/5): Such a comfortable stay with great hosts :) We’d definitely come back! - Such a great place to stay! Yoshi and Seongmi were so friendly and helpful, especially helping us organise passes for the onsens and giving dinner recommendations. The room was spacious and comfortable. The shared bathroom/showers were always clean and available when we needed them. Also really close to the station and a quick journey to the snow monkey park!
- Kate (10/5): Would recommend to friends and fam. Would definitely come back! - Great location, beautiful accommodation and wonderful hosts. They were very helpful and kind. Nothing!
- Olivia (10/5): The most special stay! Amazing couple running the place, so friendly and helpful. Clean, perfect room and facilities. De - Everything! Room and facilities, the owners, the location, the breakfast. Nothing!
Komfortable, ruhige Räume in guter Lage.
- Gilsandra (6/5): -
- Juan (10/5): -
- Kerloc'h (10/5): - The staff was very nice and we had very interesting conversations. They give very good advice on the area and the Onsen. The place is spotless clean, beautiful and very quiet and comfortable.
For a fee, you have access to Onsen in neighboring hotels.
The town of Yudanaka is also very nice. The hotel is very close to the train station. From there, you can take a bus to the Snow Monkey Park.
Convenience store, bars and restaurants are all walking distance too.
If you need to do laundry, be aware that you have to start it before 8pm (might be good to know if you're traveling around and didn't have time to do it before).
- Maritza (8/5): - We had a nice stay in a traditional Japanese style room. Great location. Helpful host. The blanket provided was a bit small and not the most comfortable.
- Elise (10/5): Gezellig, warm verblijf - Heel hartelijke gastheer en vrouw! Mooie en ruime accomodatie.
- Carol (10/5): Great hosts -
- Sridhar (8/5): Very good - They had agreements with local onsens which could be used for a price. Maybe that should be built in to the price charged, at least one visit should be covered.
- Lucy (9/5): Great stay! - The owners were so lovely and helpful, providing us with helpful recommendations. The place was clean, comfy and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud (best bed in all of Japan!). It was easy to get to see the snow monkeys and close to many good restaurants and Shibu onsen town Although there were shared bathrooms, they were spotless and felt like we had the place to ourselves
- Silke (10/5): Don‘t look any further! This is the place! - This is the most amazing place, which is run by two very warm and welcoming owner. They helped me with many good recommendations and shared their company with me when I was was for one day the last remaining guest.
I love their recycle system and the well thought trough way they are running their house. I highly recommend this place and would love to come back.
- Bhayangkari (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Great! - This place was fantastic. Cosy homely atmosphere thanks to Seongmi and Yoshi who were wonderful hosts. Everything they recommended lived up to expectations. For those of you reading who have tattoos - Seongmi recommended an onsen which is cool about it and it was a great experience! Location is also super comfy - right next to the train and bus station, which turned out to be super convenient for day trips to the monkey park and Obuse. -
- Scott (10/5): Gracious wonderful hosts in a beautiful ryokhan in fabulous location. - Beautiful owners, great location and very informative services. All was excellent
- Maximillian (10/5): Exceptional - Super comfy rooms. The facilities and rooms are immaculate with a kitchen and common areas. The hosts are legends and make your stay fantastic! Nothing
- Matteo (10/5): Amazing place, highly recommend! - This place is simply amazing. The rooms are beautiful, it's always nice and warm inside in winter and everything is extremely clean. Our hosts were super friendly and helped out with anything we needed. We don't ask or Snowboard, so they helped us plan other daytrips. There is a big kitchen for if you want to cook and common areas for if you just want to relax. Also you can get access to the onsen of other hotels for very little money, which was very relaxing.
We really enjoyed our stay and would higly recommend to anyone! Everything was perfect
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (10/5): Perfect stay - We had an amazing stay at Aibiya. The house was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The complementary continental breakfast had enough variety and was a great start to the day. Above all, Seongmi and Yoshi were super hosts. They went out of their way to ensure we had a perfect stay and gave wonderful recommendations. Seongmi even drove to the bus stop as she thought we might miss the bus to the monkey park and would have driven us if we had. I can’t recommend this place enough. Please stay, you won’t regret it. Nothing

The location is good. Many restaurants and onsen are nearby. It was a great 1 hours walk to Monky Park through the villages.
The accommodation was bright, very cosy and above all clean.
- Patrick (10/5): Friendly and cozy - Seongmi and Yoshi are exceptionally friendly hosts. They made me feel right at home and gave excellent suggestions and advice. They provide such a comfortable and cozy atmosphere that you end up bonding with other guests, too.
The building itself is cozy - made of natural materials that gives it a wonderful feel.
The onsens you can go to are great. One of them is a rooftop bath where you can watch the sun set over the mountains
- Mark (8/5): Nice accommodation (cross of Japanese and Western), well located, good value, with great hosts! -

They were incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive, offering thoughtful tips about local attractions, restaurants, and even hidden gems in the area that only locals know about. The space itself was cozy, spotless, and beautifully decorated, blending traditional Japanese style with modern comforts. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If you're looking for a peaceful, authentic, and memorable stay, this is the place! I truly can't thank the hosts enough for their kindness and generosity. Highly recommend!
- Samuel (10/5): Lovely place in lovely town to see lovely snow monkeys - The host couple are wonderful and go out of their way to help you plan every day of your trip. I fell in love with this town. I booked the room here because of the photos and I enjoyed the traditional style of architecture! I would stay here again.
- Natjanuszkiewicz (10/5): Fantastic place! - Room was big enough and clean, same situation with bathrooms. But, what is most important at this place is an extraordinary hospitality! Seongmi and Yoshi are amazing hosts. I was feel like home here :)
- Tuck (10/5): Amazing hosts, beautiful place, clean rooms - Yoshi and Soonmi were very hospitable hosts. I fell sick during my stay, and they helped care for me by providing some drinks and snacks needed to nurse me back to health. The hostel decor was very quant and nice too. Rooms were clean, quiet, and comfortable. 10/10 would recommend.
- Julie (8/5): We will certainly stay here again - Yoshi and Seongmi went out of their way to be welcoming and incredibly helpful. Great location and facilities that were above expectations. A yukata would have been nice
- Daniel (10/5): Feels like home - Yoshi & Seongmi were amazing. I felt so welcomed from the moment I arrived, and they were helpful with everything (even encouraging me daily to buy a helmet for my own safety). I will definitely be back. A little bit of a mission to get up to the ski lifts, but the town of Yudanaka was sleepy and quiet which was relaxing.
- Lizbet (10/5): Probably one of the best places we stayed on our 2 week Japan trip - the owners/ host are so welcoming and helpful nothing, everything was great
- Gonzales (10/5): Great base to stay at to visit Snow Monkey Park and Shiga Kogen. - The room were bigger than I expected, and the bed is super comfortable. Staff were helpful as I'm not too familiar with the area. They don't have an onsen but have 3 partnership with other onsens in the area. It is close from the station so if you want to go around Yamanouchi or Shiga Kogen, it's a good base.
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional property and hosts - The overwhelmingly positive reviews are no exaggeration. Seongmi and Yoshi were incredibly helpful with everything including recommendations for food and activities, arranging private onsen visits and luggage transfers. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the common spaces and breakfast were all fantastic. Strongly recommend choosing AIBIYA if you're looking for accommodation in the Yamanouchi area. Everything was great. Nothing that we didn't like.
- Nicole (10/5): Excellent hosts - The hosts are very hospitable, with excellent knowledge of the local area.
Lovely, fresh breakfast.
Location is a great base for the Snow Monkeys/ local ski resorts.
Large room with a comfortable bed.
Traditional style rooms with tatami mats and shoji window coverings- if you are light sensitive whilst sleeping bring an eyemask.
- Jiri (10/5): We had a perfect stay! - We had a perfect stay at this hotel—10/10! The owners, a friendly couple with impeccable English, made us feel completely at home. The hotel is spotless, with spacious rooms and beds, offering a beautiful blend of traditional Japanese tatami style and comfort.
The abundance of onsens nearby was a highlight—we use it every evening and loved the experience. The owners provided excellent recommendations for hiking trails and restaurants, and we enjoyed fascinating conversations about life in Japan.
The location is ideal for visiting the monkey park and exploring Nagano and nature. If we return to this area, we will definitely book here again. We truly hope to see the owners in Europe someday!
- Elizabeth (10/5): Wish we had stayed longer! - A lovely comfy quiet place, near the station. We had a beautiful room and the whole place was lovely. The couple who run it were extremely kind and helpful.
- Mark (10/5): Sweet as it gets for a fraction of the price - Yoshi and his wife were Extremely helpful and amazing people, anything you need you get help with and they suggested more than enough things to go while we were there for our short stay. Great location and Authentic feel also super clean.
- Larissa (10/5): A Wonderful Stay - Everything about Aibiya was amazing, it was beautifully done, clean, cozy and in a great location - it felt like a home! I would 100% recommend staying here if you want to go to Yudanaka or Shibu Onsen, it was perfect.
- Dieter (10/5): Charmant stay in one of Japan’s best guesthouses - We stayed 4 nights and it was delightful! The hosts are amazing and day trips to Obuse, Nagano and off course the Snow Monkeys were easy by train or foot. The village is small but charming and in a blink you are in Shibu Onsen. Would totally recommend. Shared douches and little ‘noise cancellation’ was what we were afraid of beforehand, but the place was al peace and quiet (even fully booked) and showers were very good. Finally also a great breakfast. Nothing: perfect stay, we both loved it!
- Westlake (10/5): Exceptional - Really clean and spacious hotel with really comfortable beds. Hotel owners were awesome. Friendly and helpful.
- Antti (9/5): Casual inn with traditional touch - The english speaking Japanese owners were extremely helpful in suggesting things to do in the area. Without their local knowledge, our three night stay would not have been half as interesting. The upstairs spacious en suite room with tatami-area was a fun change to the usual hotel room set up. Would book again without hesitation.
- Vidhvat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Urszula (10/5): Great place to stay to visit Nagano region - Highly recommended! I loved the place, the owners give a lot of useful advices on what to see. I enjoyed a lot :)
