Guest Reviews
- jeffrey (7/5): - Bed supports broke
- Kisuri (8/5): -
- R (8/5): Very good - Really good location in the heart of the old fort. Helpful staff. Good breakfast and good value for money.
- Global2374 (8/5): Very good - Breakfast was ok. Normal with fruits, bread, eggs.
- Fenna (4/5): Disappointing, good location - Bathroom smelt due to gaps between each guests room so didn’t feel that private, and the staff who ran the hotel weren’t friendly. Reminder that this is someone’s home and it very much feels like you’re in their space and more of a burden than anything. Man who looks after property was the most friendly otherwise rest of staff quite unfriendly.
- Varsha (8/5): Very good -
- Osman (6/5): Pleasant -
- Siew (7/5): Good - Quite old in fashion kinda setting. Breakfast is just nice. Host is friendly also. Great location too. Few storey to climb up
- Sarah (8/5): Good central location and value for money - Great central location, reasonably clean and comfortable with very good AC. Staff were friendly and provided a nice breakfast Wifi didn’t work in our room, bit outdated
- Susan (7/5): Great location, friendly staff just a bit of an issue with the payment - Perfect location They couldn’t accept card payment because they use a neighbouring restaurants machine which was closed when we were there
- Colleen (4/5): Disappointing - Convenient location inside walled city. Balcony was nothing but a view into a very dirty courtyard. Balcony chair was broken. Owner chastised me for keeping the balcony light on overnight for my safety & to have a clear egress route in event of emergency evacuation, also as intruder prevention - she prioritized a negligible monetary savings over my safety as a petite solo female traveller. There was no hot water, yes I had wall switch on and know how to use those heaters. Breakfast was on outdoor table that hadn't been cleaned from previous night's bar activities.
- Pandithasekara (6/5): Pleasant - Location is very good. Less staff during the new year
- De (1/5): Waste of money - Need to change management completely Totally unprofessional uneducated staff
- Tanveer (9/5): Superb - Nice location, clean and comfy.
- Gemma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dilini (3/5): Poor -
- F (6/5): Pleasant - Great location Noisy and WiFi connection very intermittent
- Chris (8/5): Very good - Great location
- Raelynn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raelynn (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, nice accommodations, good AC, good wi-fi, very kind owners.
- Stapes (10/5): Exceptional - Probably the cleanest we have ever stayed, lovely hosts and great house
- Skye (10/5): A little gem in the middle of everything - We discovered this little gem by being useless at planning, arriving in Galle, sitting in a bar to get the wifi, and realising it was a mere 20 meters away. That would have been enough, but no, they went above and beyond. It was one of the most beautiful rooms of the trip, with a beautiful terrace and a bed that I frankly felt like a princess sleeping in. Immaculately clean villa, good restaurant / bar downstairs, live music if you're lucky to be on the right day of the week (I want to say it was Thursday?). Everything a very quick walk away (as evidenced by our basically being there already by accident) and an excellent price for the night as well. They need a new sign - I did think the paper / sharpie was adorable, but they deserve much better!
- David (8/5): Very good - Lovely staff and great location recommend a stay Suffered with mosquito bites probably due to a poorly fitting window in the bathroom
- Nanette (8/5): Very good - Our stay was cut short due to flight changes and we were required to leave early. Staff were happy to accomodate. They also accomodated our request for another friend to leave gear in our room (did not stay) before their flight.
- Katelyn (9/5): Great central accomodation to explore Galle fort - Great location in the centre of the gallery fort. Such a beautiful house with beautiful rooms. It was a friendly welcome by the owner. We only stayed 1 night and were able to walk around the entire walls of the fort from this accomodation. There is a restaurant at the front of the accomodation and plenty of other dining options within walking distance. Was also a hot but manageable walk from the bus/train station. Wifi didn’t work very well for us. Also, the map on booking.com is incorrect and we had trouble finding it initially and walked to the very eastern side of the fort as per the map, but it is actually located right in the centre of the fort on Pedler st.
- Debbie (10/5): Perfectly in the middle of everything - Great bar out the front, lovely breakfast.
- Veenasree (8/5): Very good -
- Rob_nijhof (9/5): Excellent stay. Charming motel. Great experience - This has been an excellent stay for us. This motel is very charming. Beautiful inside interior. Excellent location right in the heart of the Galle Fort. Our room (#4) was quiet and comfortable with an excellent shower and AC. Staff is great. The older lady seems a little grumpy, but it's just who she is I guess :-).
In front of the motel is a bar which plays music until 22:30, which is fine. The bed only had a small sheet, but with these temperatures, who needs sheets anyway.
- Lynn (9/5): Superb - Great location and lovely breakfast
- Peggy (9/5): Superb - Amazing location in the old town, great breakfast. Friendly staff. Reserved a double but got 2 beds pushed together with different levels, 1 bed with a thin matrass which was a bit hard and 1 with a normal matrass
- Carole (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely large, airy, quiet room on the top floor with a comfortable bed. Kindly let us park our tuk-tuk on the premises. The location was central to everything. There was a restaurant and bar on site and even though there was live music everything stopped at 11pm. Nothing
- Amanda (8/5): Excellent location. Interesting old building. Miserable staff - Great location in centre of Galle Fort. Surly female staff. No kettle in room and very poor shower
- Sasha (10/5): Great base in the fort. Right in the thick of it! - Aunty and the staff were very friendly and helpful
- Merina (7/5): Nice hotel in good location but poorly trained staff - Location. The added 30% additional tax etc
Bar staff and restaurants staff very slow and to busy talking !and looking at there phones.
- Pratik (9/5): Superb - Location
- Andras (9/5): Superb -
- Lottie-ann (10/5): Great value for money - Clean with well functionong airconditioning and hot showes. Located very central on the shopping street.
- Hao (10/5): Very good - The location is superb, just in the centre of the ancient fort, most interesting places are in walking distance.
- Jayananth (9/5): Superb - Near beach
- Sarvika (6/5): Wasn't a pleasant stay but bed is comfortable with an AC. - The bed was comfortable and the AC was great in the warm weather. The location is great. The noise was terrible - you could hear noises from other people's bathrooms and bedrooms quite clearly. There was welding during the day which was really unpleasant as well.
There was no wifi in the rooms.
- Hana (8/5): Nice place to stay for 2 days - It is spacious
- Busby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rifayat (7/5): Good - Big spacious room, extremely clean place, good location nice big washroom.... Galle fort within 5 minutes walking distance The lady owner is very rude, she said you cant enter hotel after 11;00 pm?? Like i am here for travelling but i have to come back within 11:00 pm, she did not allowed taking food into the room... Very rough and rude
- Darren (5/5): Passable -
- Dmitry (9/5): We loved it a lot and would be very happy to come back one day - Nice location. A cozy room, spacious and quiet. A very big comfortable bed. The hot water tap was hot enough and had a good pressure The max fan speed wasn’t fast enough for the room volume. The whole building is closing at 22:30 and even though they open the door when you come later it feels a bit disturbing
- Ella (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jayantha (4/5): Disappointing -
- Eliza (7/5): Good - Simple basic breakfast-👍
Better if Egg can be optional on guest preference like “sunny side up or weldone” WIFI not getting connected in room #12 or #14 if I’m not mistaken and bedsheet is not big enough for two.
- Pannir (8/5): Very good -
- Denis (10/5): Very nice hotel, comfortable stay in Galle -
- Tara (8/5): Very good - Very lovely building with old colonial architecture. The owners were pleasant. Everything was clean and comfortable. Shower and A/C worked. Our room was over looking the restaurant courtyard. There was nice live music till about 10.30pm. Great location for price. They didn't seem to have parking for us but we were okay parking on the street. Breakfast was a bit basic. Toast eggs and fruit. Would stay again.
- Marek (8/5): Very good -
- Dilshan (8/5): Very good - Good customer service. But wrong location in map Wrong location. Located in middle of galle fort not a sea side
- Richard (1/5): Bad - Good location Very loud music thumping all the time took over 1 hour to pay, then they wanted to charge an extra 3 percent to use a card. The parking advertised was not really there at meal times and night time they put tables in front of the car so you couldn't go out. There was only half a sheet and no hot water
- Dinesh (9/5): Superb -
- Eva (5/5): Passable - On the beach. Dirty beach.
- Lily (5/5): Won't visit again - The restaurant below with one man band. And the location We left early morning for whale watching and were told that by will be back by 11 am. When we realized that it was taking long we messaged the property saying that we will be late and hence if no late check out allowed they can remove our bags and keep out as it's already packed. But upon our return the elderly lady there was very rude the moment we entered the house and started saying that she will charge us for another day. We tried to explain to her the situation and even informed her that we messaged the property but there was no response. Later she charged us extra for the additional two hours. Till 1 pm. 12 dollars which wasnt much. Although there was no checkin waiting to happen for that room. She said she could not open the room as they had no spare key. Which is very strange. The least they could do is reply to our message that it's not possible for late check out. But talking in anger and saying why you'll came late and now I'll charge for two days and throwing tantrums was not professional at all and uncalled for. Nothing Great about this place other then location .
- Xurxo (9/5): Good but Galle is $$ - Best location
Good rest
Breakfast Ok A bit pricey
- George (8/5): Very good - A few things to know before you book…..
- The location shown on Booking.com and google maps is incorrect - it’s not on the beach as it appears (take a note of the contact number so your driver can call for directions)
- Booking.com states free toiletries, this is not the case, we even had to ask for hand soap!
- No hot water in the shower nor hand basin
- The WiFi is by request and not great
- If your planning on paying with card this can’t be done until the restaurant opens a 11am
We were placed in a room with a huge balcony a very comfortable bed and the building itself is charming, breakfast was the usual western offering and done well - the coconut roti and Sambol on the final morning a highlight!
The cost of food and drink were amongst the cheapest we found in Galle at the hotel restaurant The Ivy.
The accommodation has scooters for hire and are happy to help with arrangements for taxis etc. located within seconds from bars, restaurants, spas and shops and a few minutes to an ATM.
- Ileanaagonzalez (8/5): Cozy Hotel in Galle Fort - Great location inside Galle Fort. Family-run business. Breakfast provided was fried eggs, toast and fruit. Room was very clean. Toilet did not flush properly.
- Huw (10/5): Awesome - Its character & friendly family run feel . As well as the location inside the fort
- Malgorzata (6/5): If you can choose sth else, do . - The location is great, in the heart of the Fort. Motel looks nice and the breakfast is good. There is AC in the room. So, first of all, I didn’t realize that besides the price there is also 16$ of tax to be added - my fault. If I had seen it before, I’d book sth different as 35$ for a night in Galle is … expensive taking into consideration that:
1. Eg hangers etc in the bathroom are damaged and nobody cares
2. WiFi is really poor
3. The owner (or the manager?) is the only person speaking English but she lies on the couch at the hall all day scrolling her phone and if you need to ask anything you wait till she looks at you
4. there is no info anywhere about breakfast time, WiFi password etc so you just go, ask and wait attention
5. There are cockroaches in the bathroom.
- Peter (5/5): Nice place, nice room, but too hot at room. - AC did'nt worked.
- Tharindu (9/5): Value for Money - Central Location; Quiet Environment; Sound Proof Rooms; Queen size comfortable bed.
- Martin (8/5): Very good - Good position in old port. Very good equipment in room. Hot shower. Breakfest with many meals and good. Oour room has only one window without view. Something dirty was falling in shower from roof.
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice people
- Stephen (5/5): Passable - Location is great. Picture of the hotel with the wooden balcony and red sign is not the Frangipani I stayed in.
Room just has a bed. Nowhere to put suitcase or clothes.
Electric sockets are inaccessible.
No bedside lamp.
No shampoo or soap provided.
No fridge or drink making facilities.
I was there 3 nights and towel not changed.
Breakfast is adequate but Spartan. Week coffee. Two fried eggs, four pieces of toast butter jam. Glass of fruit juice.
When I compare it with a budget hotel in UK which is similarly priced this is expensive for what it is.
- Erandika (6/5): Not bad but could've been better - Really close to all the shops cafes and middle of the Galle fort. Food was affordable, and the breakfast which was included in the room price was plenty including bread, butter,Jam,eggs, fruits and coffee. The restaurant/bar has a good menu. Clean rooms We had to change rooms because our first room was too small and had a sky light which made it really difficult to fall asleep as the room was too bright, but next room was spacious. There wasn't soap in the bathroom and we had to ask for one, other toiletries weren't available. It's good if they can provide soap and maybe a small shampoo/conditioner and maybe a bottle of water complimentary. Anyway the room was what you receive for what you pay. Also we had to go to the ATM to take out cash to pay in cash because there wasn't anyone who knew to operate the card machine at the time of checkout (11a.m.) , which was bit inconvenient as I was planning to pay with my credit card.
- Aliya (9/5): Superb - Very clean and comfortable. The furniture in the room I stayed in was also beautiful. No soap was provided
- Stan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dilki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (6/5): - 料金が設定より高かった。
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location and friendly owners - Ideally located in Galle walled city and easy to find.
Owners and staff were accommodating and facilities were good.
Only discomfort was that the rooms have thin walls and could hear people in next room.
- HUAJUN (10/5): - 就在Galle Dutch Fort内,像是国内的小古城,但安静许多,店铺多,白天有游客,晚上基本没啥人,走出去2分钟就能看到印度洋,风景极佳。perfect location, clean room, stunning views within walking distance. The breakfast was amazing.
- Claire (10/5): Comfortable stay in an unbeatable location - We stayed at Frangipani Motel for one night in October 2017, and we're very pleased that we chose this place, due the excellent location, despite it being a little more expensive than other places we have stayed in Sri Lanka so far.
Bit of confusion at check-in as the lady wanted a different booking number than the one we had through hotels.com, but was resolved swiftly - also got a free welcome drink which was much appreciated.
The room was clean, bed was large with a mosquito net and air conditioning worked well. Only downside was the toilet seat was very stained.
Breakfast was lovely, huge teapot of tea and coffee, lots of toast, marmalade, big fruit platter and fried eggs.
- Rebecca (4/5): Central to Galle Fort but not comfortable - Galle is beautiful and we'll worth a visit. Lots of lovely restaurant choices and walking around the wall is very pretty. Fragipani is in the heart of Galle Fort and couldn't be much more centrally located. However, it was a very uncomfortable night. The beds and pillows were hard, the bed we had was HUGE but there was only one small thin blanket for us both to share, barely covered us! The room was clean, with a bit of fiddling with the equipment we managed to have a warm shower. Wifi didnt work in the rooms, needed to be used in the comunal areas. The night included breakfast, nice Sri Lankan tea, nice array of fruits. Egg and toast wasnt great but is pretty standard. They wete kind however as we were late to breakfsst and still served us. We stayed somewhere outside the fort for our second night, 15 min tuk tuk ride which gave us a beach side hotel, 7th Sky Edyll, it was cheaper, more comfortable and a place where we could surf during the day and jump into a tuk tuk to head back to Galle Fort for drinks and dinner in the evening. If you like a great milkshake head to Pedlars Inn!
