Guest Reviews
- Ivan (7/5): - Breakfast was great. Location is awesome. We had to wait for 15 minutes after check in time for our room to get cleaned so we can check in.
The table in the room had blotchy surface with missing parts of top layer.
TV has accessibility turned on which made it read out loud every command and content highlighted, which in turn made it slow and unresponsive and skipping commands entered on the remote. There's no option to turn off narrator, it's locked.
Windows have nice vintage system that keeps them wind safe, but it needs some maintenance to work correctly.
- Rosina (9/5): -
- Robert (9/5): - Location
- Torsten (9/5): - Die Lage. Schönes Zimmer. Und mega Frühstück mit Brot und Brötchen aus der hauseigenen Bäckerei.
- Dipti (10/5): Great trip - Great breakfast All good
- lisa (9/5): Perfect location, good value - The location is perfect for city exploring and catching island tours. The rooms were nice, clean, comfortable. We had a complimentary breakfast buffet which was a good way to start the day. Not a huge issue but room cleaning service was an additional fee. Not an issue if you are only there for a couple of days but if you expect fresh towels and bedding daily, be aware.

- F7235QYmagalic (10/5): Outstanding service and unforgettable stay - I had an excellent stay at this hotel. The staff were incredibly attentive and genuinely caring, always going above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. From the moment I arrived, I felt truly welcomed and well taken care of. Every request was handled quickly and with a smile, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The overall atmosphere was warm and relaxing, and the level of service really stood out. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would gladly come back.
- jarmitage2026 (10/5): Fab - Lovely hotel in a brilliant location. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great
- Lala2124 (10/5): A gem of a boutique hotel - Just back from a lovely 5 nights at this lovely hotel. What a perfect gem of a place and absolutely perfect for me to surprise my husband for a trip for his birthday.
It's fantastically centrally located and we used the Flybus to get there - a short 6 minute walk from bus stop no 6 ( although we did arrive in the horrendous storms so it took about 10/15 minutes trudging up the hill on that day!)
But as soon as we arrived we were greeted warmly by Liam on the front desk who checked us in straight away. The room was lovely , warm with heated floors and nice coffee. The hotel had the most perfect healthy breakfasts with delicious pastries from the bakery next door and it also had a really cute little gym which I used on a couple of occasions. Such a great location to walk everywhere and really helpful staff to advise with anything you needed. I'm really grateful to Liam for recommending such a fabulous tour group (EastWest Tours) for our northern lights experience - we had a fantastic night out! I've already recommended this hotel to about 10 people who are all planning Iceland trips in the next year, so I 'm sure they will have as wonderful a time as we have just had!!
Thank you!!

- MikeEarle (10/5): An Inspired Choice! - What a location! Central for everything and clean comfortable rooms with friendly staff and my No1 bakery next door! This is the place to stay!
- KJ6200 (10/5): Excellent boutique hotel in the heart of Reykjavik - A fantastic 4-night stay at Sand Hotel. Outstanding location on Laugavegur which is the central walking street in the heart of Reykjavik, so incredibly easy to walk to all the main attractions in the city as well as all the key bus stops from where guided tours meet. Our 5th floor room was spacious and comfortable with a great shower and lovely views out to the sea. Buffet breakfast was fresh, plentiful and delicious and the staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful. Highly recommend. Thanks Sand Hotel
- crystalh302 (8/5): Nice hotel - No Parking - The hotel is nice - please be aware there is NO PARKING. We had to drive in an alley - drop off our bags, bring them in a back door, use 2 sets of elevators. We have a family member with mobility issues so getting the luggage into the room was challenging for us. If you are young, healthy or have no luggage, the location is great. Just be aware if you have lots of luggage or mobility issues.
- E142JTlaurak (10/5): Overall great! - Very convenient location, walking distance to many things. Parking can be an issue. We were able to get an early check-in which was wonderful. Overall great stay!
- Dream17975128242 (10/5): Great location and accommodations in the heart of downtown! - Unbeatable location that allowed us to walk everywhere downtown! Being next to the Sandholt Bakery is a plus! Nice rooms and very comfy beds! And the complimentary breakfast provided a wide selection, including local item
- eauld1 (10/5): Fantastic Stay - We were originally planning to stay two nights here, but had to cancel our glass cabin rental due to inclement weather, so we stayed an additional two nights. The staff was very accommodating. They added the two nights and allowed us to check in early. The location is great and central to everything. They also have a nice breakfast included. We would definitely stay again.
- Mario (9/5): - accoglienza e professionalità del team in reception sempre pronti a soddisfare richieste e informazioni per visitare al meglio il Paese
- trenton140 (10/5): Modern, Clean, Friendly Hotel - Excellent breakfast with a great gym that has actual dumbbells. The rooms are modern and very clean, and the staff at the front desk do their best to accommodate all your requests!
- finnrik (10/5): Great getaway hotel for couples - I and my wife stayed in a Deluxe room and got everything we needed to get a short break from our daily lives - the staff was really nice and welcoming, the room was excellent for the price and no noises to interrupt our stay or sleep. Breakfast was also very nice. The only downside is that we would have loved an hour later check-out (check-out is at 11 am)
- MBT64 (10/5): Highly recommended - We loved this hotel. The location, the staff and the rooms were all super. Breakfast was lovely too with a good selection of food to choose from.
- 47Birds (10/5): Welcoming - Very welcoming and friendly staff. Nice rooms. Excellent housekeeping! Desk very friendly. Breakfast delicious.
- J6885ZPwaltero (10/5): Icelandic Adventure! - We were throughly happy with the Sand Hotel, from location, amenities, room and staff. Especially Roberto who helped us immensely with tours and dining options. This was our 35th wedding anniversary celebration and Iceland didn’t disappoint because of all the help and recommendations Roberto provided. We will have fond memories of the Sand Hotel, experiences and Iceland forever. We will stay again when travels bring us back to Iceland!

- drbill02152009 (8/5): Great location - Fantastic location! No parking, you are on your own. Rooms nice. Street a bit loud with drunks at night. Breakfast staff was not so friendly. They even had a tip jar….in Iceland! That was weird. Food is good though. Walking distance to everything.
- Z4480MRdianeg (10/5): Exceptional staff - The hotel was very comfortable. They were able to accommodate an early check in for a fee but not a late check out. Like many hotels they are happy to hold onto your luggage. We had breakfast included and although I was not a fan of the selection, my husband enjoyed it. There is not a shortage of eateries nearby. It’s on the main drag and conveniently located. My big shout out is to the staff. The staff was exceptional with every interaction and helped to arrange for excursions and taxis. Highly recommend.
- Christin (10/5): -
- lsmyers5713 (10/5): Perfect place to stay - The hotel is clean, quaint yet modern and has a wonderful free breakfast. It is centrally located in the shopping district with an easy walk to numerous shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel staff were very pleasant, helpful and accommodating.
- D5986WIpaulc (10/5): Reykjavik family break - For our three night family break in Reykjavik we stayed at the Sand Hotel. The hotel is centrally located within walking distance of everything. We stayed in one of their suites as there was four of us. The room was spotlessly clean with a large ensuite and a large walk in shower. The underfloor heating made it a very cozy place to rest up following a day of sightseeing in the freezing cold. The breakfast was more than adequate to start the day, the Icelandics do have the best yoghurts.....oh and those ginger shots.....oof!! The staff on reception and in the bar/breakfast area were brilliant, they were extremely helpful and courteous, a credit to the hotel. The hotel sits above a bakery which is famous with the locals and tourists alike and is definitely worth a visit too. I would definitely recommend the Sand Hotel and wouldn't hesitate to return.
- TheSkiver (8/5): Enjoyable Stay - The best part was definitely the staff, who were always extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms themselves, whilst looking lovely, lack storage space. That said, the beds were incredibly comfortable and the noise level was far lower than we expected. We would certainly return - just probably with less luggage!
- Quest597106 (10/5): Smart, comfortable and friendly hotel in a great location - The Sand Hotel was a revelation. Just off the centre of Laugavegur, it felt far smarter and more comfortable than we had even anticipated.
The beds were exceptionally cosy, and the breakfast was an absolute feast.
When I had a small accident during our stay, the staff were wonderfully attentive and went out of their way to help.
- Smith (10/5): Very nice hotel. Convenient. Friendly staff. - Very convenient location. Room was small but adequate and nicely designed. NA
- Dayron (10/5): Great hotel In Reykjavík. Super central. - Loved how central it was I don’t have anything negative to say. Maybe the parking situation but that’s not the hotels fault
- Maryjeanne (10/5): Excellent - Amazing location, room, and breakfast
- Marc (9/5): Très bien - Très bon petit déjeuner, endroit calme, dans la rue principale. Fort débit de douche! Peu de lumière dans la chambre qui donnait sur un mur
- Christal (8/5): -
- Katla (8/5): -
- Christopher (10/5): - Clean comfortable and friendly
- Nathan (8/5): - The included breakfast was good, but would benefit from some additional hot items.
The staff were all fantastic! Courteous, prompt, helpful, etc. The room was good.....quite small, but good. Because of the small size, there was not even a small side table to eat at. The bed was very comfortable, but the pillows were all very soft, which reduced the overall comfort. The shower was excellent.
- Tanja (9/5): -
- TALIA (8/5): -
- Fiona (8/5): Nice central location, with a quiet and comfy room. - First lass breakfast choices. Busy location but not noisy. Staff very polite and helpful. Nowhere to put my suitcase. Had to get out of bed to turn off the light. Towels as far away from the shower and basin as they could be.
- Altaf (9/5): - I love the stuff and i was leaving @ 3:00 in the morning i loved the small coffee corner with the tasty croissant and i loved the cozy room
- Siv (9/5): -
- Garrick (10/5): -
- WEI-CHIEH (9/5): -
- Eric (10/5): - Great location in the center of Reykjavik. Amazing breakfast. Clean and well appointed, helpful staff. We had our windows open (the weather was unusually warm while we were there) and the sound and noise of night life was a little loud at night.
- Claude (9/5): Hôtel très agréable au cœur de Reykjavik - - emplacement central permettant la visite pédestre des principaux sites de la ville ;
- très bon petit déjeuner ;
- design et décoration de l hôtel . - éclairage insuffisant dans la chambre notamment pour lire;
- rangement insuffisant.
Pour le reste: RAS
- Fionnuala (10/5): -
- Menai (10/5): A great place for a stay in Reykjavik. - Location was excellent. There was a good breakfast and the staff were always pleasant and helpful. We would certainly stay again.
- Åsa (8/5): -
- toats99377 (10/5): Pure Excellence! - Everything at the hotel was excellent. From the staff to the room to the location--I could not have asked for anything more.
- Elewis331- (10/5): Love This Place! - I’ve been to Iceland several times now and the past few I’ve stayed at the Sand Hotel. The staff is so friendly, the rooms are great, and the breakfast is the best!!! Great location too. Definitely will be back!
- Couple_in_Marseillan (10/5): Lovely hotel in the centre of Reykjavik - Great location with easy walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants which is perfect when the weather is not so good. Shame the hotel bar is not cosy enough to entice visitors to spend time relaxing in the evenings.
- Jing Wen (9/5): Other than breakfast, everything was great. - Clean, amazing location, comfortable, nice room Breakfast was definitely not superb… no coffee machine, Only filter coffee available for free. Have to pay if I want to have coffee like latte/ cappuccino. Very simple and basic spread. Maybe our other stays brought up our expectations too much on the breakfast…
- Soldierboy7999 (10/5): Fantastic hotel right in the heart of Reykjavik - If you want a lovely hotel right in the middle of Reykjavik then look no further. The rooms are lovely and I’ve go to say the bed was super comfy. The continental breakfast was really good, especially the breads that are made by the bakery next door. The staff are all super friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. We’re definitely thinking of coming back to Iceland and to be honest I think we’ll absolutely book here again. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
- richardpcocker (10/5): Fabulous place - Perfect location
Would of been nice to have had hot breakfast option
Very comfortable, clean and ideal for our visit
- skilakimou (10/5): I love this hotel! Great location and next door to a bakery. - I research hotels tons before I choose one. This is perfect. Great location on the Main Street Laugavegur. PLUS free delicious!!!breakfast w lots of healthy options including Icelandic fish oil and ginger shot. Wow. Good coffee!!!
The room is perfect- roomy, good bedding and beds. Warm & cozy but windows open. Super quiet (on Laugavegur). Bathroom perfect too. Water is delicious to drink.
Only Nigel - room quite dark so reading in bed not that easy. Also had to hunt for charging plug.
Did I mention well established bakery NEXT DOOR. Delicious pastry and coffee & sandwiches.
All in all I would book this hotel. Staff young & lovely.

- lindyluwh02002 (10/5): Loved it! - My room was clean, the staff was great and location was awesome! I highly recommend it for a trip to Reykavik.
- N5262EBsamanthaw (10/5): Cozy, Excellent Location - We had a lovely time at Sand Hotel for first time in Iceland. The hotel itself has a cozy but modern feel, and the service was excellent. The hotel breakfast is a huge plus, especially for early mornings before a tour. My partner and I agreed that for tourists, the location was one of the best things about this hotel. It is in the middle of a charming and lively street in Reykjavik, and immediately upon walking out you are greeted with lots of shops, restaurants, and bars for you to explore.
- Jennifer (10/5): An amazing hotel with amazing staff and in an amazing location. - Beautiful, super comfortable, and the breakfast was fantastic. But the best part of my stay was that the front desk staff was able to check me in early. I was so exhausted from the flight and was planning to nap in my car, so I nearly cried when they said they had a room ready. Thank you! N/A
- hbeswick2025 (10/5): Hayley Beswick - Friendly staff very efficient and helpful
Located centrally close to bus stops
Clean
Excellent breakfast
- Catherine (10/5): Brilliant hotel for our Reykjavik trip! - Location, modern decor, rooms really comfortable with great duvets and pillows. Staff really helpful both before and during our stay. Breakfast nice. Corridor areas need a bit of maintenance in places ie marked walls but not too bad. That’s it!

- N1744VHjaneb (8/5): Great hotel with wonderful Icelandic friendliness. - Visited to celebrate a special birthday with pleasant and helpful “Sand” team throughout the visit. Thanks for the note and gift in the bedroom on arrival. Considerate. Bathroom: good quality towels including flannels, which replaced daily. Bathroom door slides over and was heavy and didn’t close completely and felt hard, perhaps sharp on fingers. One hook in bathroom for towel. High standard of daily housekeeping - thank you. Room: always warm and opened the window for a breeze. Perhaps have a firmer pillow available in the open wardrobe area? And chilled house water in the fridge? Excellent shower and Milton Brown toiletries which were excellent. Little noise except music on the Friday night. Breakfast: no hot food throughout the visit however, despite being disappointed on the first morning, this was temporary, as the selection of goodies on offer was brilliant. Included proper Skyr with fruits and selection of other toppings. Highly recommend including the coconut. Lots of fruit juices and smoothies. Really enjoyed the Gravadlax with Scandi cream cheese and superb selection of fresh breads. Enjoyed tasting Icelandic whipped butter and there were omega fish shots available too. I’d recommend Sand offering a coffee package at additional cost when booking, for machine-made flat whites or espressos. Happy Hour: selection - perhaps extend what on offer particularity the wines, and certainly recommend introducing snacks such as nuts or pretzels. However enjoyed pre-dinner drinks at Happy Hour before heading off for restaurant recommendations. Extremely helpful with bus information back to airport and hot croissants and coffee when leaving super early for airport return. Good lounge downstairs in reception area. Bought an item from the hotel selection of gifts on sale, but didn’t have any tissue or proper packaging, which they were apologetic about. Few tweaks to enhance but overall, happy with hotel selection for the location, friendliness and breakfast. I’d recommend Sand.
- Agnieszka12025 (10/5): Nice stay! - Super friendly staff, nice rooms, good quality breakfast with extra attentive service. Super location of the hotel. Enjoyed very much!
- Wander393608 (10/5): Lovely hotel in quaint shopping district - We had a FABULOUS week-long stay here over Thanksgiving. Staff was very helpful accommodating our 8:30am check-in request, which was a Godsend after the overnight flight from the US, as well as arranging transportation for our large group back to the airport at the end of our trip. The rooms were spacious and clean and the bathrooms were gorgeous--heated floors! The included European breakfast offered a wide variety of meats, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, fruit, juices, pastries, and smoothies. So many shops, restaurants, and bars--offering a wide variety of International cuisine--and the grocery store were literally just outside the doors. Bus stops for both local routes and the must-do Excursions were about 10. And we watched a spectacular Northern Lights show right from our window!! Highly recommend.
- Excursion25247171030 (10/5): Reykjavík stay - The Sand Hotel was excellent for our visit to Reykjavík. The location, breakfast and hotel was everything needed for a wonderful stay.
- calamityjane1956 (10/5): Great choice of hoteĺ - .Overall this was a great hotel, excellant location, very helpful staff and lovely breakfast. The only negatives were about the room, the lighting could have been brighter, seemed quite dismal especially if trying to put on make up or do ones hair. Then a choice of firmness for pillows would have been good. The ones we had were very soft with little substance. As I said minor details and they wouldnt stop us from booking the hotel again.
- emmalouises734 (10/5): A great time - The hotel was amazing! Great spacious room, really comfy bed, amazing breakfast options and situated perfectly for walks, cafes and restaurants and bus stop pick ups. Friendly and accommodating staff, would definitely recommend! X

- B497SLjennifert (10/5): Great location, nice hotel - We loved this little hotel. Terrific location - easy access to shopping, restaurants and bus pick ups.
- Courtney (10/5): Great stay! - Amazing property, beautiful and clean, nice sized rooms and bathroom. Lovely staff, clean facility and all round great stay! Breakfast selections didn’t have any warm options or options to toast any bread.
- Jchasse (10/5): Clean, Comfortable, Location and A+ Breakfast - Location can’t be. The heart of city center makes it easy to walk to shops and restaurants. Excellent staff happy to call a cab, make a suggestion, or pour another coffee. Comfy beds. Wonderful breakfast.
The location does mean there’s some street noise. My one suggestion to management is to add some lighting in rooms- there was not enough to read in bed or sit at desk.
- sjohnson2025 (10/5): Great Location! - The location of Sand Hotel is central to most anything you want to do in Reykjavik and walking distance to most attractions. The room was very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable. The restaurant and bakery was simply amazing! I will be coming back to Iceland and plan on staying here again!
- V7094DLdenniss (10/5): Easily our favorite hotel in Reykjavik! - The hotel itself is beautiful and interesting, having been constructed inside of multiple connected buildings. The rooms are easily the most comfortable I've ever stayed in, with excellent beds and pillow (I know, but this is a big deal to me). Onsite breakfast is nice, staff is super-helpful, and the "walk out the door and you're there" location is legit.
- Leah (8/5): Highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Reykjavik. - Great location, fantastic breakfast, large room.
- Grégoire (7/5): Cute boutique hotel in Central Reykjavik - Great location No parking and breakfast has a lot of carbs, they could do omelettes, could do with a little more warmth
- sleyler12 (10/5): Great! - Beautiful hotel. The best breakfast! Literally, my favorite with brie, crossiants, yogurt, ginger shots and meats! The rooms were spacious but did get hot at night. The bar at night was convenient and Oleg was informative.
- shalwahe (10/5): Best Place to Stay in the City Center - My friend and I absolutely loved this hotel. It was clean, pretty, and modern, and our double room was perfect. Breakfast was great and included (which saves you a lot of money in this expensive city). The location couldn't be any better. It's right in the middle of the city center, on Laugavegur where all the shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars are. It's also a quick walk from several excursion bus stops and the pier where whale watching tours leave from. The staff was also very friendly and helpful at all hours of the day.
- DebsinNorthumbria (10/5): Fantastic hotel in an ideal location - This hotel is exceptionally clean, classy and comfortable. Staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing was a bother. The room was very comfortable and quiet and the location is literally off the main street, could not more central. Breakfast was great, continental style - very fresh and healthy. i would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

- lenp817 (8/5): Great hotel, excellent location - The hotel is clean, quiet and centrally located to Reykjavík attractions. The service is adequate, a little standoffish, less welcoming than other hotels.
Breakfast is good, if you get there early. We got there late one day and several items were gone, and they refused to replenish.
The coffee was just average -I would suggest the upgrade!
Even with these oversights, I think the hotel is good and I would go there again.
- O7312ANchristinee (8/5): Great location within walking distance of many sights and staff was very helpful. - Heart caused an odor in my room, but staff provided a fan and Febreeze, i turned heat down and all this helped resolve.
- glennkU4958BN (10/5): Superb staff - Hotel was clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had an issue with a trip we had booked which was nothing to do with the hotel and reception went out of their way to help us sort it.
Breakfast was good with lots of choice.
The hotel location is in the centre of town with everything you need to see within walking distance.
- Aliaa (9/5): Amazing Staff, Great Stay! - Clean, lovely hotel in a great location! But above all, truly amazing staff. They went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.
- stevenmO3926QK (8/5): A Welcoming Place but warm - Icelandic hotels are spare. Not a lot of frills. The staff were friendly. My only concern as an older traveler was the polished marble floor of the bath and walk in shower. It was slippery. The room was overheated and temp was "regulated" by opening a window. Icelanders tell.me this is pretty typical in both homes and hotels.
- dtloxy (10/5): Really nice place. - Posh design and touches like all marble bathroom, super fluffy duvets. The included breakfast was quite nice and the service was very helpful. Convenient location, though dropoff and pickup experience could have been better. Only 1-2 spots to use but it worked fine
- mariabskk (10/5): Loved it!! - Loved it, cozy, clean, central, amazing breakfast and very helpful and lovely staff. The bed is amazing! Would stay again!
- John (6/5): late night music ruined our stay. - Great location in the middle of Reykjavík. comfortable bed. Great breakfast. The noise at night. Music in local bars until 3am. Friday and Saturday night i could not sleep until after 3pm even though i wore the supplied ear plugs 👴
- kdmouradian (10/5): 10 Year Anniversary in Iceland - Cozy quarters but perfect location and excellent service! We chose to stay here for our 10 year anniversary trip because we loved the idea of a little boutique hotel above a bakery. Excellent trip, everyone was so kind and helpful. Cute little room (and we had a view of the bakery from our window)
- Dorijan306 (10/5): Great - Beautiful hotel in the city center. The rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and helpful and the comfort of the beds is amazing. All the best recommendations for this hotel. 10/10
- Cristina (9/5): - Great stay! Clean, friendly staff!
- Emily (10/5): First trip to Iceland - Location was perfect. Breakfast delicious. Lovely room and friendly staff. Nothing
- Travel34446242236 (8/5): Comfortable Beds and Great Staff! - The hotel is located in a part of the town that is not accessible by car. So, you will need to bring your luggage to the hotel. This can be difficult when the weather is good, and treacherous when it is bad. That said, the hotel itself is nice. The beds are very comfortable. The rooms do feel small at points. But all in all, I would stay here again!
- Neddustbin (10/5): Lovely Hotel in heart of Reykjavic - Spent a wonderful four days at the Sand Hotel as a base for our Iceland Adventure. The service and staff at the Sand was excellent and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a hotel in the heart of the city.
