Guest Reviews
- Tracy (6/5): Rustic room, beach view - We planned this location to celebrate our 20th anniversary because it was right on the beach. The location was perfect, walking distance to Coco about 1/5 mile, right on the beach, and walking distance to several restaurants. It does not have any breakfast available, but the ladies in the morning are happy to refill the coffee for coffee service in the room. The air conditioning worked great in the room and the bed was comfortable. There was a refrigerator to keep a few things and when asked for water and ice, the restaurant staff was very helpful. The pool was also very clean even though it was older.
This could be a cute little boutique hotel with a few improvements in the rooms and bathroom. We had hot water in the shower, the door didn't shut but no hot water in the sink. And the lighting was non existent in the bathroom. There was no way for my husband to shave at the sink.
The other thing is we never ate at the restaurant. It was fairly expensive even compared to others. We had a few drinks and those were very expensive also. They did have a good selection of alcohol. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful, but had a lot of down time.
Overall, we had a great experience and enjoyed ourselves. The staff was wonderful. All of the outside areas were always neat and tidy and well kept.
- Adriana G (10/5): - The staff was very welcoming and helpful. They made us feel like we were right at home.
I would recommend renting a car at the airport so you are able to explore the town, hit the local shops and enjoy the various restaurants.
- Brittany (6/5): - Being ocean front was wonderful, and the restaurant and beach front area were well taken care of. However, the room was outdated, and the pool wasn't well maintained.
- Philip (10/5): - Great location with the perfect beach to watch the sunset every night. Staff are very welcoming. Would definitely stay here again
- Pat (8/5): - Small boutique hotel. The restaurant is right on the beach. The rooms are a little plain, but functional. The food, although pricey, was good quality. Amenities right down the street. Priced right for the neighborhood. The staff was very friendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location and view …that’s it - The male staff and female owner/manager were kind and helpful. The younger women that worked there were not, they just stared at me. The view of the beach and location was the reason I booked and that was great! The food was overpriced and not that tasty. 2 drinks, appetizer and coconut shrimp was $106 USD! There should be a curfew for kids in the pool, there were plenty noisy kids in the pool very late at night.
- Ethan (6/5): - Great restaurant and incredible beach location, rooms adequate at best. But it was the right price.
- Derek (10/5): - Beautiful location - Right on the beach. Food was great. Service was fantastic.
- Sally (10/5): - Wish we had more days there. It was a last night stay and we booked it sight unseen. A wonderful stay with super clean rooms, plenty of towels, excellent restaurant and plenty of lounge chairs for the beach. Great atmosphere . Safe walking on beach and to shops. Would love to go back. Excellent quality for the money.
- Brian (10/5): - Jeffery behind the bar was great and being right on the ocean was amazing
- Mona (10/5): - Beautiful beach front property. Very nice location on the quiet end of the beach. Walking distance from Playa del Coco shops and restaurants. No breakfast at the hotel however 5 min walk to very nice breakfast cafe restaurants. Property has very nice restaurant for lunch and dinner. Wonderful staff and service!
- Jennifer (8/5): - Right on beach! We enjoyed the pool and the restaurant on site. The rooms are older and outdated but beds were very comfortable!
- Joanne (10/5): - The staff were amazing. great service
- Justin (6/5): - Good location on beach within walking distance to main town with shops and restaurants. Noisy at night. Amenities are falling apart or broken.
- Dean (6/5): - We arrived before checkin time but assumed we’d sit poolside if our room wasn’t ready. We weren’t sure where to check in since the front building had no signage. We asked at the bar and they were able to check us in early
- Allen (4/5): - Nice cafe/ beachfront, that’s about. Rooms reminded me of a worn out Super 8 motel in the US. Second night there was , not only booming bass music from the hotel, but from some place Nextdoor/ and it went on until 3 in the morning. None of the guest could sleep. Recliners on beach are broken, no chairs luggage racks or hook to hang wet clothing from. Shower was terrible (plumbing, fixtures and pressure). Could not wait to check out. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Oh, and way overpriced for what you get. Website indicated laundry, they do not.
- Jason (10/5): - The patio is amazing!! Staff were awesome. And the hotel is at the end of the beach which I was told by the locals Is so much better because it's cleaner and the run off from the town is way on the other side. Quiet, clean, great service. Recommend.
- Darren (6/5): - Our room was a little tired. Handle fell off in the shower, toilet leaks, large gaps in the door that i stuffed plastic bags into trying to keep cockroaches out. Found 3 in our room in the one night stay.
The property is nice and the staff are very friendly. We never ate here, but paid 32USD for 2 pina coladas.
- Karen And Gary (8/5): - Beautiful view…right on the beach. Lovely people!
- Chad (10/5): - Great location, rooms in good condition. Staff was very accommodating and friendly, ensuring the experience was perfect. I would stay here again for sure.
- Heidi (10/5): - This place is very cute with its central pool and seating/hammocks. The beach restaurant is quaint and has great seating options and loungers. The staff is super nice and friendly!
That said the room seemed clean but smelled strongly like a urinal cake/clenser. The shower was meh clean and I woke up to a big dead roach by my shoes. The walkway placement makes it noisy and people were loud as was the rolling of the cleaning crew cart right outside our door. That said, we only stayed one night and it was good.
- Stephen (10/5): - First off, if you don’t read any further, just know this is an incredible property with only a handful of rooms and a few steps to the beach. The dining area is overlooking the waves and every staff member goes out of their way to make your vacation memorable.
That being said, here were the surprises. Nothing that’s a dealbreaker, but just unexpected.
There are less than 10 rooms for the entire property, so the guest noise is quite minimal. That said, the rooms literally exit into the dining area. You can be woken in the morning to the sound of chairs, tables, and silverware moving.
If you open your curtain, you will be face to face with employees or others eating.
The walk along the beach from the hotel to the Main Street is a gorgeous start to every morning.
Overall, we are quite happy we stayed here.
- Lori (2/5): - Not very nice.
- Heather (8/5): - Very nice and quiet property.
- Dave (10/5): Great Boutique Beachfront Property - Cafe del Playa in Coco was amazing. A boutique beachfront small property with a nice room, super clean and very friendly staff. The dining area looking out at the beach was amazing.
- David (10/5): - Extremely friendly staff. Beautiful location. Food was excellent and beachfront property.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Needs a deep cleaning - This place is pretty worn. It looks like it could be nice, but it really needs a good cleaning. There was dirt on the walls in the bathroom, the tile floor was gritty, and it smelled of mildew. It does have a great view of the ocean and the sunset, but you can get that anywhere on the beach. It was ok, but I would look somewhere else until the condition of the rooms improves.
- Jacob (10/5): - Love how close it was to the beach :)
- Anthony (10/5): - Great boutique hotel right on the beach. Staff was amazing and accommodating. Shout out to Isabella for all the local advice.
- Teagan (10/5): - This place was amazing and will be my go to place for whenever I stay in Costa Rica
- Joshua (4/5): - The only thing that is good about this hotel is the ocean proximity and view.
1) there is no breakfast included
2) the pool smells like urine
3) the front desk is only available after 11 a.m.
4) the room is old and sparsely furnished
Not worth the $$ even during high season
- Holley (10/5): - Absolutely loved this property. 5 steps to the beach! Only 5 rooms, excellent staff. Catered to our every need. Food onsite at restaurant was amazing
- Kimberly (10/5): - This was the perfect place for us to really enjoy the beach walking distance from our room. The staff was lovely, and the food at the restaurant was very very good. The sunset from the beach restaurant could not have been any better. The walk to the main avenue of tourist shops maybe takes 15-20 minutes, but walking along the beach makes it very pleasant.
- Jessica (10/5): - Everything you need at the quiet end of the beach.
Grounds are well maintained, room was comfortable with all the necessities, and staff is friendly.
You have the option to dip your toes in the ocean or dip in the pool, eat great food on site, and have a great seat for the sunset.
- Imelda (10/5): - This property is right on the beach and within walking distance to the town. The beach and surrounding area is clean. You can view beautiful sunsets right at the back of the property. Cafe de Playa restaurant is in the property and has great food and service.
- Sandra (10/5): - Was advertised as a ‘good’ hotel. That is true. No more than that. More like a motel, not boutique hotel. Says daily maid service and bicycle rentals- neither of those existed. Had to ask for more toilet paper. Did not ask for maid service as we did not want it. Shampoo and shower gel available but no conditioner. No beach chairs available even though directly on the beach. Can walk to town but it is about .75 miles on the road or 0.5 on the beach. No specific area to wash sand off feet when returning. Restaurant staff friendly. Would probably stay somewhere else next time.
- MaryAnn (10/5): - We needed a place to stay that was close to airport. Lucky to come across this place. It's a hidden gem. Thankful for an air conditioned room. Restaurant had great ambiance, drinks, food, right on the beach. Staff was courteous.
- Jacob (6/5): - It’s a restaurant with rooms. So don’t expect hotel experience. It still was nice! But curb your expectations. Right on the beach
- Samantha (8/5): - Room was no frills for sure, but to walk out of our room straight to the beach was worth it. Staff there were so friendly and went above and beyond, bringing chairs, food, and drink out to the beach to us! Cocktails were amazing!
- JoAnn (8/5): - The hotel only has 5 rooms and a nice pool. The bar and restaurant are owned separately. The rooms were pretty funky but clean and the beds were good. What makes this such a great place is the proximity to the beach and the fantastic restaurant. We ate there every night and it was the best food we had for the $ in Costa Rica. We loved it so much they brought the chef out to meet us! What a talented young man!!
- Lorenzo (6/5): - Very nice location. Clean and safe. No seating/chairs in room makes it difficult to sit on bed for everything. Mattress sorly uncomfortable. Back pain developed during our stay. They dropped the ball on room services the first day and ignored my request for towels to shower. Super courteous staff when engaged.
- Philip (10/5): - It was alittle private gem off the beaten path. Luis the chef is incredible!!!!! Staff made me feel like family. Will always stay there when Coco.
- khristine (10/5): - Location amazing. Staff so kind and welcoming. Very quiet. Price appropriate
- Florence (8/5): - A great beachfront location
Great for sunsets
Music nights
Great food
Rooms little small and pool older but all workable because
Of amenities overall
- Alan (10/5): - This hotel was small, only 5 rooms. We stayed for 15 nights. The room we had was really big and had everything we needed. The pool was right outside the door and the restaurant was just steps away. The food was excellent and had a superb view of the bay. The staff were all hard workers and ready to assist you with anything you needed. They all worked hard to keep this place in good shape and yes I would stay here again.
- Amanda (8/5): Basic and comfy! - Simple, clean accommodations in a quiet area close to town. Loved the beach and the pool!
- Greg (8/5): - It's a nice little 5 room motel behind a very good restaurant. The first night we were put in room 1, which was not great. Second night we stayed in room 2 which was much better. Staff was really excellent and very nice. Pool and garden area are small, but lovely and well maintained. We had 3 meals at the restaurant, and they were all excellent. Beach out front is really great too. I would definitely stay here again when I return.
- Robert (8/5): - A pleasant place to stay without a lot of frills.
- Micheal (10/5): Nice stay - We enjoyed our stay here. Nice beach. Decent restaurant. No room service though and no phone in room. Also no mini fridge. Their advertisement about beach front rooms is not correct however the rooms don't face the ocean.
- Tina (4/5): - This property is first and foremost a RESTAURANT that happens to rent a few rooms. The bathroom was filthy upon check in. Not sure its ever actually been thoroughly cleaned. Reception is the bar. They had a paper binder to manage their reservations. It showed we were to be in room #2, but given the keys to stay in room #1. The Reception desk (bar) isn't staffed until 11 am. This is problematic if you need to check out before 11 am. You're lucky if you can find the "housekeeper" when you need to refresh your towels etc and ask for cleaning. The sheets were clean and bed comfortable, nice pool area. Definitely not more than a 1 star property and way over priced for what you get.
- tom (10/5): - on the beach
- William (10/5): - Perfectly located right on Playa Coco beach, with a beautiful patio restaurant right on the beach. And the fresh fish was excellent! As well, the staff were very helpful and friendly. Plus a great wine list & glass wine fridge.
- Karen (8/5): - Great little spot
- Christopher (10/5): - The hotel and cafe were excellent. About a kilometer away from the main town, so there was no major noise concerns, but easily walkable along the beachfront trail without worrying about cars. Very comfortable ex-pat/tourist area, so english will be all you need, but a little spanish and respect will get you a long way. Plenty of the standard tourist shops in town and a lot of excellent restaurant options. The hotel/cafe staff were excellent to work with, but not around/available until 11:00 when the cafe opens.
- ANDREA (10/5): - We absolutely loved this boutique hotel. With only five rooms, it is very quiet and homey. That said, the bar and restaurant were within 20 feet of our door, and the beach was with 40 feet. The restaurant closes at 9:00pm, and so it gets very dark and quiet after that, but we enjoyed the solitude. The staff is super friendly, and the food in the restaurant is delicious. We tried most of the menu! Almost every night we enjoyed a pina colada while watching the sun set. Pura Vida!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Location & great restaurant staff, but old hotel - The condition of the rooms don't make this place the best value. The pool area is underutilized since the beachfront is prioritized. There is not an airport shuttle service.
However, the service from the restaurant staff (Alison was great, as well as the other servers) was great and deserves to be mentioned. Everyone was incredibly friendly and very attentive. Overall, they were the difference in making our stay a positive experience.
The restaurant has good food and the hammocks are a great addition for relaxing. There's Sunday night music which was really great. The location is north of the main tourist area so it's
- Dave (6/5): - Smelly
- aaron (8/5): Location, friendly staff, great value! - Friendly staff (Alison was great!). Great location on beach short walk to everything you need. Slightly dated, but nice clean room. Restaurant attached fantastic. Great value.. would stay here again!
- Karhryn (4/5): - Hotel was ok but needs upgrade to rooms. Was not worth the price or room.
- Michelle (10/5): Cute place - Cute place
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Fun little place right by the beach
- CYRIL (8/5): - Happy Hour was impressive. Beautiful area facing the beach, cheap booze and gd service. Everything els was so so. The price brought me here and if the price was the same, I woul rerun.
Weirdly, couldn’t check out until 11AM and no breakfast service.
- Isabel (6/5): - This is a wonderful place on the beach, highly recommend, but avoid the restaurant, extremely expensive (and misleading, you dont get what the menu says).
- Stephen (10/5): - Right on the beach with a great restaurant. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable.
- James (10/5): - Nice quite place to stay.
- Don (6/5): - On the beach with a nice beachfront restaurant / bar. Rooms are OK, but price was too high for room condtion.
- Sandra (8/5): - We loved our short stay and wished we had an extra day here. Hammocks and cafe tables are right on the beach. The food is some of the best we had on our 9 day trip to Costa Rica. No complaints here!
- Ceredig (10/5): Relaxing beachfront stay - We had a great couple of nights on the beach. Very relaxing, great food, and superb service from Maurizio at the hotel beachfront restaurant. Room was lovely, and right outside the pool.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place located right on the beach. Rooms are all pool/garden view, but the hotel restaurant has a great view of the ocean. The staff was kind and very helpful. Our room was basic but very clean and we liked it.
- scott (8/5): - Great beachfront hotel!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property is located on the beach which is great for swimming and quite beautiful. Coco is very busy with tourism due to it's close location to the airport. The restaurant serves good food, but it is extremely overpriced. A salad with avocado was $16, not big enough for a meal, no bread. There is no breakfast or coffee offered. The waiter we had was not friendly. One of the nights the restaurant was closed due to a private concert for a bus of 150 people. The hotel loaded up with Americans coming to see an American playing country western music. We left for the night.
Overall this is an ok place. Car parking is out on the street in the driveway with no protection. Nothing negative happened, but in CR it is always more comfortable to park where in secure areas.
- Minor (8/5): - Excellent food!
No breakfast (some fruit might do it).
Small but nice rooms.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The patio restaurant and bar were all that was needed to make this small, 5 room hotel the best place on Playa de Coco. Good food, great wait staff and a perfect location on the beach with beautiful sunsets every evening.
- Dan (10/5): - Beautiful beach front hotel on the quiet end of town. A short (10 min) walk to the town center. Very safe and secure facility with a fantastic staff. Beautifully prepared food and drinks. WE would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quiet, clean and relaxing. Far enough away from town to relax and not hear the craziness yet several great restaurants close by
