Guest Reviews
- Purse (10/5): Nice stay for the money. - Character
- Mark (9/5): - Friendly greeting very comfortable Shower could be safer
If you catch the handle your getting scolded
No shower gel
- Tristan (10/5): Great stay - Fantastic Can't fault it
- ken (6/5): - Internet was ok
- Maksim (1/5): Booked twin room but on arrival found one single bed in there. Needed to pay for second room last minute. Very rude mana -
- Linda (10/5): - Lovely character hotel, room comfortable & cosy, staff friendly & helpful
- owen (2/5): Avoid - A small drab room with a uncomfortable bed, ALL of the fittings in the small shower room were broken. We did not stay for breakfast.
- John (7/5): - Friendly staff and good beer. We had booked a twin room on Booking.com but were allocated a double at the pub. Staff recitified this by finding us a twin room on the second day.
- Alexander (8/5): - A lovely place to stay in Ashover. Staff were kind and friendly and the accomodation is quiet and comfortable, if a little lacking in detailed maintenance in places. But despite that, I should be happy to return in the future
- Laurence (6/5): - The hotel part of the pub was convenient for one night. The property was old and tired. The reception was neither friendly nor unfrienfly, rather indifferent. We exchanged very few words. 'Pal' and 'Mate' were two. The room was small but clean. Again tired. Wall paper peeling, bathroom needs grouting, no hot water. One bedside lamp no bulb, which could be dangerous, the other the the bulb was blown. In the moring at 0745hrs we appeared to be locked in. I exited the building via the fire escape.
- Sem (7/5): -
- David (9/5): - The room was very comfortable and quiet, even on Friday and Saturday night. Great location, and loved the walking routes provided. Complimentary bottled beers and unexpected fridge was a bonus. No toiletries provided except for hand-wash.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Beautiful building, shame about the rest - Bedroom was clean and functional. Shower had engrained mould in the tiles. We were not told beforehand that there was a singer (of sorts) playing ruined any chance of an early night. Free wifi, was none functional. Food arrived within minutes and was poor. Were told we could order breakfast then text at midnight to say we couldnt.
- Helen (9/5): Nice place, friendly staff and was just the job for what we wanted. - Nice old property with charm
- Danny (1/5): -
- Caroline (6/5): Not for me - Great for one night. Bed comfortable. Owner great and very attentive. Food in pub awful. Breakfast average and expensive. Price of food high and poor quality.
Kept awake all night with the bells from the village church. Cute at first but awful after a few hours of trying to get to sleep
- Kevin (9/5): A very pleasant stay - Great breakfast friendly and efficient staff comfortable room Nothing
- Arild (8/5): Hyggelige omgivelser - Rolige omgivelser. Litt slitt, måtte sjekke med eiet om vi hadde reservert.
- richard (8/5): - The staff were very helpful
- Lindsay (8/5): A great country pub to stay in! - Really good, and great value. Lovely setting, and great views from the pub garden and terrace. Good base for walks into Derbyshire, and great beers. Rooms are all themed to different Titanic beers, which is really quirky and nicely done. I was in Steerage, and the only negative comment was the very noisy water pump that goes off intermittently once or twice and hour through the night. Once you get used to the sound it was okay, but it does shock you a bit at first. If they could sort that, it would be great. Staff were welcoming and lovely. A hidden gem.
- Michal (10/5): Exceptional - Very relaxed, friendly and welcoming with great beers :) Couple of bottles of beer in the room was a fabulous touch :) All was great, thank you
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent as always can't fault it in any way Nothing
- Paul (7/5): Great staff. Would have liked a more comfortable bed. - Staff
Food
Location
Car park Only small criticism was the bed had poor support and no where to put toiletries in the bathroom.
Bathroom needs redecorating or renovation.
- Philip (9/5): An excellent stay in a great village inn - Excellent service from all the staff it was just what we wanted
Good food great beer and a warm friendly atmosphere Nothing
- Paul (10/5): i keep going back - very helpful staff, great selection of beers. food good and plenty of it. beautiful place to stay. i try to always stay here now when I am working in the area.
- Neil (6/5): Improve how you speak to customers - Pros- good location, good size room with really comfortable bed. Good value for money.
Cons- initial room was right above the loudest part of the pub so I asked if there were similar rooms available in a quieter location. The manager - Andy - so rude. Actually stunned by his treatment of me. Made what should have been a simple room swap really heated. I eventually got to change rooms and I'm so glad I did- the second room was ideal. But having Andy speak to me the way he did put me off staying again and I've told local friends my story so they're aware.
Such a shame - as a paying customer I expected much better.
- Paul (4/5): No heating and in need of some repairs! - There was no heating in the bar or the rooms during my stay, because apparently the heating was broke. My colleague had stayed an extra night than me, but the heating was not fixed at all during our stay and no explanation or refund, etc was offered. The bar and rooms were cold (although an electric heater was provided in the room) and everyone in the bar was sitting in coats and hats (never witnessed this previously)!
The rooms were ok, but some maintenance is required due to a towel rail hanging off the wall, cold tap was loose, toilet seat was very loose, paint flaking off the bathroom ceiling and the TV signal was weak (pixels at times).
Shame really as its a nice building, but just seems to of been left behind with no money spent on it!
Big thanks to Martha though as she was very helpful and did seem to care.
- Paula (7/5): Pleasant room let down by breakfast situation. Wouldn’t have been a problem but nobody said anything - Beautiful old building , clean comfy bed. Said breakfast between 8-10 came down at 9 we were told someone be down soon . Waited over 15 mins no sign of anything happening so went elsewhere ! Even when we went back no sign of anything
- nigel (4/5): Sleepless in ashover - The hotel staff was great. The hotel is being badly run would not recommend this hotel needs a lot of upgrading.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly pub, lovely cosy open fires
- steve (8/5): great old place to stay - great place, staff lovely, food good, breakfast superb, great beer
- Nya8280 (8/5): A really nice little pub with character and comfy beds. - I really like the old yet modern feel to the place. The twin was nicely situated with the beds at a diagonal with plenty of space between to be able to have our stuff and get changed without disturbing each other. The food was really tasty with good portion sizes and a great selection of drinks. We could easily get into the Peaks without having to pay the tourist price for staying in the Peaks. Unfortunately the toilet kept making a noise through the night as if the pump kept coming on to bring the water back up for the cog so that was a bit annoying and the car park is right on the bend and a very sharp turning and not very big, only holding about 10 cars, however there isn't much they can do about either. I was able to park opposite on the hill down to the cross roads where the pub sits.
- John (10/5): - Fantastic locals pub with lots of atmosphere, great food. Can't speak highly enough of the village of Ashover, and the surrounding area.
The rooms are a little small but its what you expect for a pub of that age.
Definately a 5 star stay.
- Pete (8/5): Very good -
- Dougie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charley (8/5): - The Old Poets Corner is perfect for a one night stay. It's in a quiet rural location but it was a travel stop for us. Rooms are clean and quiet, named after beers and you get complimentary beer in the room. Bathrooms are dated but clean.
- Sue (7/5): Ashover is a pretty village and a very peaceful location. If you want peace & quite it’s lovely - The staff were friendly.
The hotel room was nice and comfortable with the added bonus of bottles of water. There was even a couple of bottles of their famous ale to try. The dinner I felt was average. The chips were overcooked.
There was a strange smell in the bathroom, & the bathroom door didn’t close fully.
- Mick (9/5): Superb -
- Tom (6/5): Nice room in a natural, local inn, but had booking issues - Nice room in a natural, local inn with helpful staff. Our booking didn't seem to register properly on their system, but they trusted I'd pre-paid and offered us free breakfast in the morning to make up for the room confusion. Our booking didn't seem to register properly on their system. As a result the twin room we booked was unavailable and we were placed in a double room. This was ok for us but disappointing. They also didn't have record of my online payment so I was prompted to pay at the end. Also, sometimes the downstairs of the inn wasn't staffed very well and we had to wait a while to speak to someone.
- Marie (5/5): Average - The area, the food, parking, the staff, dogs allowed. No chair in bedroom to sit, the smell from the sooty fireplace coming into room, effecting my Asthma, wooden floors a little sticky and no rugs.
- Glenys (10/5): - We had a lovely welcome from the staff, the food was excellent and David really looked after us in the mornings. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we would highly recommend staying here.
- Sally (7/5): Good - Lovely staff, all very helpful
Nice room
Good breakfasts
Had supper in pub twice, good food
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - The old poets corner is my favourite place to stay Nothing
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ok - Lovely staff and tasty food, nice room although due to being above the pub noisy in the evenings. Mattress too soft and bouncy for my liking. No shop in the lical area
- David (9/5): We came to chill out of the rat race and they gave us exactly what was needed . - Old world, traditional and very friendly . Power of shower for my husband but was fine for me lol.
- Glenn (8/5): Traditional pub offering comfortable accommodation, decent meals, wide selection of beers. - Old Poets Corner is a traditional pub at the edge of a handsome traditional village, and has a good range of local beer on tap. The staff are helpful and approachable. It's clearly popular with the locals, always a good sign. The bed was superb, the bedroom and pub interior somewhat lived-in though not unpleasantly so. Despite arriving after the kitchen had closed, the very obliging chef took pity on us and cooked up a very acceptable meal. It was not clear from the booking details that the kitchen closes at 6pm on Sundays. Very limited range of non-alcoholic drinks in the bar. There was an issue with noisy equipment under our bedroom, which the landlord resolved.
- Joanne (7/5): Lovely old pub - We loved the history of the place, beautiful surrounds, church bells singing in the background on a Sunday morning. Really nice little village. Staff were great. We are Australian and it was hard to understand us and vice versa which was quite funny. We stayed for one night which was a Saturday night, oops!. I really wanted a good night's sleep and didn't realise there was a band going to play until 11pm. We finally got to sleep and it was fine after that. I would recommend a stay for older people on a week night.
- Jade (5/5): It was O.K - The View Everything was fine other than the room not being ready nor could the keys be found, so we had to wait about 30 mins would of been nice to of been offered a courtesy drink each, also when we checked out in the morning, there was no staff around to see how our stay was, we ended up just leaving the keys with the cleaner.
- Tony (8/5): - its a titanic pub, so liked the range of real ales,
lovely village, everyone so friendly made you feel welcome, and two more pubs only few hundred yards away, crispen and black swan.
- Mark (10/5): Loved it - Themed by titanic brewery. Staff very friendly
Room very comfy
Surrounding scenery beautiful
- Gary (8/5): Great Little Stay - Quick overnight stay with my wife and dog. Decent food and drink in a pleasant environment. The building is great! Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was nice and comfortable.
- Vincent (10/5): - Staff were friendly and made everything easy. Food was great too. Thank you for a lovely stay.
- lee (8/5): - only downfull of the place is when staff played loud music at 2am on the first night
- Simon (10/5): - Perfect
- Petra van der (8/5): - The room was big enough for two days, but for a longer stay it was to small
- simon (10/5): - Been before great
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing one night stay - Amazing stay in a beautiful location despite the weather
- Sarah (10/5): 😁 - Lovely little place, great views even better drinks
- Roger (10/5): Excellent Service and comfort - I was surprised that even above a pub it was so quiet.I had the best nights sleep. Could have had something to do with the excellent ales on service in the pub. Friendly staff and locals.
- Gary (4/5): - Terrible. Chef has left and someone else is running the kitchen with limited menu. Not that you are told beforehand. Food lukewarm at best. Then told that the 4 rashers of bacon, 4 Harris sausages and watery scrambled eggs cost £20. Maybe just a bad set of circumstances but won't be risking it again.
- simon (10/5): - The staff and manager were great food was great and busy pub atmosphere due to event bear by rooms do need upgrading but super service overall 👍
- nicola (10/5): A lovely place to stay - We will be returning with some friends after christmas
- Kevin (6/5): Ok stay - Could do with being updated from top to bottom but clean
- neil (10/5): - Great rooms above a lovely old pub. Friendly staff.
- Kara (10/5): Charming pub in a very cute village - Very charming hotel and pub with free beer in the room, great food especially the pizza, comfortable beds and friendly service. Located in a very charming town in the peak district. Very very highly recommended.
- Jane (10/5): Short stopover near Chatsworth, the Peak District - We had not stayed at a pub before, but were pleasantly surprised. The room had everything we needed, clean comfortable beds, tea/coffee-making facilities. The bathroom was clean with a welcome hot shower.
The breakfast was very good, as was the evening meal we had there. Friendly staff too, willing to answer our questions. We'd have no hesitation booking there again.
Please mention that the breakfast is included in the price, as that wasn't clear when we booked.
- John (10/5): Free Beer - The hotel is run by the Titanic Brewery. The rather stylish, brewery themed room came with some free beer and, if that's not enough, there are about eight different beers behind the bar at a very reasonable price. Before going to bed, I spent an hour or two having a drink with the locals and the barman and thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
- David (10/5): Very Nice - Just a friendly village Inn. Clean, comfortable and nice food.
- Robert (10/5): Lovely Pub in attractive village - It wasn’t the cheapest, but it was a very enjoyable couple of days.
The only downside was a rude awakening at 4am, a drunken couple who had forgotten the door code, but the staff were fantastic.
- Valerie (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Staff very happy and attentive, brilliant breakfast, room super, great base to visit the surrounding area, will stay again
- Paul (8/5): - Comfortable room with an excellent bed. Well I liked it but everyone has different tastes. Friendly staff despite the Social Distancing. Food was good at night time and a large breakfast in the morning started the day right. Good choice of excellent beers. I was only there for one night but would gladly have stayed longer.
- Janet (10/5): - Warm welcoming lovely hosts and staff food was excellent made to feel so welcome.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The real ales were great. The stairs going up to the rooms were filthy and smelt. Wouldnt stay again or recomend it for overnight stay. £83 for 1 small room and no breakfast.
- Margi (10/5): Birthday treat - Loved the hotel full of old charm and character food was fabulous staff friendly will definitely return
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pleasant stay - Comfortable room, good beer and food downstairs! Nice base for exploring the southern Peak District
- Verified traveler (4/5): Staff are lovely but sadly... - Staff are lovely but sadly the room we stayed in wasn’t. The T.V didn’t work, the mattresss were very lumpy/you could feel the springs and whenever you ran the Taps the Bathroom 🚽 it spelt horrid and for £80 a night I’d expect some sort of breakfast 🍳. Like I said that was just our room so don’t let this put you off, views were lovely beers and food were on point and Ashover is a lovely village.
- AJ (6/5): Ok overnight stay - The whole place needs a re vamp.
The bedrooms and bathrooms need updating. The bar area needs cleaning and decorating. We paid £91. For a room and breakfast. Not worth it. The breakfast had obviously sat under the heat lamps too long as it had dried up.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely quiet location. easy to reach tourist spots - Cannot fault the food & drink. Friendly staff in a typical old-world pub/hotel. Look forward to next time.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Taken for a ride - For£75 we expected some degree of comfort and cleanliness. The staircase had a beautiful carpet but it was filthy. Given all the modern day cleaners available this could easily have been remedied. The room was "quirky" to put it mildly. Bare floorboards and not a rug in sight, no kettle despite the facilities being present and only one chair. No dressing table or similar and a bathroom blind that didn't close properly ...must have given the locals a treat!!
On the plus side the beds were comfortable and and food was good. However we did feel we had been over charged.
- Amanda (8/5): - Relaxed and fun
