Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good with communication. Bed was comfy. Location is good. Nobody told me I needed the garage clicker to get out of the parking garage and I left the keys in the room when I left. Had to wait for someone to come home to get out. The carpet is dirty. There is no coffee or end table in the livingroom to set a drink down. Kitchen was pretty bare bones.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We reached the place after 5 hours driving we were so tired and guess what the host wasn't aware of our coming and they left us outside for 1 hours trying to figuring out who is mistake the guys who come to meet us brought us a key and ask us for 15$ thinking we lost our keys we tried to explain to him we are here for the checkin we are a new guest and he said he is not aware of it his manager didnt told him. Than after they gave us the key and we did the check in we went to park the car we couldn't find a spot to park the car because someone parked in our spot.
It wasnt a cool experience and the house had a weird smell.
- Richie (8/5): Very nice property, convenient location! - I enjoyed my stay at the property. There were just a few details that could be improved upon. The bedroom window shades were not great for privacy and i would have been happier if they were better, or if blackout curtains were also installed. The shower did not look clean even though i am sure it had been cleaned.
- Gil (2/5): BEWARE! This is a dump. - This is someone's dirty apartment that they are subletting to unsuspecting travelers. The pictures do not accurately reflect the real condition of the apartment. The bathroom is filthy and musty. My wife is 5'2" and she had to stoop to get under the shower head which sprayed hardly a spritz of water. The screen to the balcony door is broken, just leaning against the sliding door. The sliding door hardly rolls because it is so old. The bed --- oh my goodness. The mattress is horrible. We went to the ROSS store about a block away and bought sheets, pillows and a blanket just to not feel like bugs were not crawling all over us. We had the same thought in Grace's review -- This definitely looks like a crime scene. I'll bet that if I had some luminol, the room would glow bright enough to read a book. The only amenity that was provided was a can of flying insect spray, which we emptied.
The Rochester building management knows nothing about the sublet arrangement -- at least that's what the person in the management office said.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not very clean. Only toilet paper, no tissue paper. noisy neighbors. but, good location
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It is like an Airbnb, not a hotel. The bed sheet might not clean because my husband and I feel itchy when we sleep on it. The sound insulation is bad too. The service is not cool, the person who gave us the keys knew nothing at all.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Overall a nice stay - I liked the apartment, great location and quiet atmosphere, helpful communications getting access to the unit. Really surprised there were no hangers in the closet. Would have liked some bar soap for showering instead of the liquid soap for hand washing/shower.
- John (2/5): Stay away - avoid huge hidden $ for poor quality - After making arrangements for access codes into the building and told that keys would be in my room and front door unlocked, I arrived late and found that my room was locked. The manager was not available by phone or email at that time, and did not arrive until the next day at 9:30 to let me into the room. Apologies were offered, I was told that the cleaning staff accidentally locked the door behind them, and as a consequence, I would get a refund for the night I could not access my room. That was nearly two weeks ago, and after multiple requests for the refund since then, I still have seen nothing. To make matters worse, the room had no top sheets, no shower soap, no wastebasket in the bathroom, and dirty dishes - likely because there was no dishwashing detergent. And, to top it off, the hidden costs for service fees and taxes nearly doubled the price of the room from the advertised $118 per night to over $200. Stay away from this place and instead get a room at a legitimate hotel or establishment for the same total cost or less.
- Chenoa (6/5): Large space, nice area, not good customer service - They gave me a code to the building and I had to retrieve the keys and garage opener from the third floor unlocked apartment, which would have been easy if I wasn’t traveling with two children (one is a baby). Even after I texted the manager to ask for help, I was on my own. We never got to enjoy the rooftop pool as it was locked and the response I received was “it should be unlocked”. The walls and carpet needed to be painted, repaired and replaced. If I knew it was an air b&b situation, I would have stayed elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Quite frankly, these were appalling - Just a short list of specific problems: a). there is no front desk and the arrangement is to ring for someone to meet you and give you the keys; I rang, arranged a meeting time two hours in advance but the concierge didn’t turn up. To put it kindly, he was not quite on the planet. I was left waiting for 40 minutes before I could get in; b). when he did turn up the room wasn’t ready (which is, admittedly, not uncommon). I was able to drop off my luggage while it was being cleaned. However, I then wasted several hours waiting to find out when I could get back in to the room and when I did gain entry, I found the cleaners had left all the doors open with my luggage on display; c). I was given the right keys to the apartment but the wrong keys to the building. As a consequence, when I got back from dinner I had to break in through the garage because no one would answer my phone calls; c). there weren’t enough toilet rolls in the apartment; I rang and asked for more to be brought. I was assured that they would be but nothing happened; d). the promised internet connection didn’t work (I ended up having to ‘piggyback’ off another apartment’s connection because, although I rang, no one fixed it; f). even the iron board was broken and the iron positively dangerous – while that sounds trivial I do think being able to iron a shirt is a normal requirement of basic hotel accommodation.
- College Mom (6/5): Good location, needs reno - Great location and size but ready for a renovation. Missing some basic amenities. We were provided 5 towels but no wash cloths, hand towels, bath mats or kitchen towels. Shower control in one bathroom was broken so difficult to regulate water temperature.
- Keef (6/5): Ok apartment option, but with communication issues - POSITIVES: Good location, near Westwood shops and UCLA; good access to public transport (into Santa Monica, Hollywood, along Wilshire etc.) but also garage space with apartment if needed. Apartment is a bit worn / faded around the edges (marked carpet, etc.) but is on the right side of cleanliness. Felt secure, in the middle of a nice apartment block. Having access to decent kitchen was good, given length of stay (9 days) meant I could store groceries etc.
NEGATIVES: Communication ahead of the visit was TERRIBLE. As I was travelling from the UK, having ONLY phone/fax options (and not e-mail) to get in touch was an issue. I had to chase the owners 3 or 4 times to get any response about crucial issues like getting into the apartment. Chasing via Expedia got an eventual response, which wasn't particularly reassuring: outside of a very slim time period (4-5pm) basically 'call when you're about 20 minutes away and someone will come and let you in'. To be fair, when I arrived at the apartment, someone did meet me - and there was one follow-up text message during my stay, but communication was definitely a problem. To reaffirm that, after checking out I was told I would have to pay a fee for taking away a garage clicker that I had never been given - as I didn't have a car! This was sorted via text messages, but points out some uncertainty around management responsibilities / communication.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient Weekend Getaway - Overall good for purpose of stay. Owner could improve shower head and pillows though.
- Grace (2/5): CRIME-SCENE DIRTY. ONE NIGHT + TAX = $321 - DO NOT BOOK FROM ROCHESTER OR GLENDON. THEY ADD A 30% TAX, THE ROOM IS CRIME SCENE FILTHY.
- Michael (4/5): Go with a hotel, not The Rochester - This was more like a college student's apartment. Carpeting with wine stains, shower with dirty floor, lots of beds in the 2 bedrooms. It was close to where my meeting was so I was sucked in by the address. Didn't see the massive cleaning charge which makes this the same price as local hotels. So if you're looking to rent an apartment for a couple of nights and cleanliness isn't an issue, this might work for you. I was disappointed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place to stay for less. - Good place to stay when in town. I would stay again in the future.
- Natalie (8/5): Excellent location for UCLA WITH GOOD RESTAURANTS - Exactly what we were looking for for a five day stay. Staff is off site so you communicate by text to let them know if you need something. They were a little chintzy on toilet paper and towels. Excellent roof deck but we were locked out last day. Super convenient location with spacious rooms but needs better lighting.
