Guest Reviews
- Matthew (10/5): - I had a great time, right on the beach, quite and only 10 minutes from downtown
- Carol (6/5): - I was not pleased that there wasn't any daily room cleaning. You're at a beach and you get sand in your room. No one cleans it up daily and their is no broom for you to sweep it up Also, there were no towels in room and you had to go get them every day I understand why but I didn't like having to wear a wide wristband for three days You're in the sun and get a white band on your wrist!
- Amanda (4/5): - This place could have been much better. Their customer service was terrible. They would go around silencing people at the pool if they were making "too much noise" which I believed to be normal noise for pool play. The employees were rude and did not provide any assistance. They have no restaurants, and no bars as stated on Expedia.
- Ariana Berlin (4/5): - Honestly, the place has a lot of potential, it’s off the beach, pool is nice, but the staff is very rude, they don’t have any restaurants, anything to drink, we didn’t even have towels in our room. To top it off our shoes were stolen from our room, a total of 4 pairs.. we were left with what we had on. Sandals! Pay a little extra. this place will make you spend way more.
- Natalio (8/5): Jaco visit - The room comes with two towels. We asked for one more after the staff at the front desk said we could get it.
After a lengthy delay the denied it for no good reason.
The property is nice and well kept. The beach is for surfing.
- duane (10/5): - Pool was clean and warm, very close to ocean and nice beach. Very close to town and nice walk to great dining. Room was dated but clean and spacious.
- Paula (6/5): - The location is the best part. It is right on the beach and a short walk to the shops and restaurants. The hotel itself is old and outdated, with no restaurants or bars.
The staff were nice and helpful.
- Janine (8/5): - Great location. Comfortable setting. Friendly staff. Close to all. Wi-Fi is dreadful.
- Andrew (10/5): Another great stay - Another great stay. Just have to beg for towels never available in the room.
- CARLOS (8/5): - Hotel is definitely not a high star fancy hotel. Bathrooms were super outdated. The bar was always closed. No breakfast offered. Seemed like a lonely ghost hotel. Parking was a great and I felt safe most importantly in spite of NOT seeing any security.
- mike (8/5): - the property was nice right by the beach nice pools no refrigerator. expedia has the property listed wrong it is actually beach break resort if you are trying to find it on waze or google maps
- Jason (2/5): - Don't Waste Your Money! I arrived early and was charged a fee for what I thought was an early check in fee then I still had to wait until the 2:00 check in time? When I finally got to the room there were no towels so I went to the desk and given 1 towel. The property was very noisy, No Bar as advertised on Expedia, No Restaurant, No Refrigerator or access to ice for cooler, there is very little within walking distance. Completely outdated rooms in poor condition, toilet handle falling off, shower door would not close, broken and missing tile in the bathroom.
The young lady at the front desk was very nice however unfortunately I had to leave the country a day early and was told she would discuss a 1 night refund with the manager and get back to me and I have yet to hear back from anyone? I recommend that you DO NOT stay at this property!
- Sandra (6/5): - Great staff, clean rooms. Basic amenities.
Loved that a provate surf lesson is included in the stay!
The walls are super thin, you can hear all conversations in the neighboring rooms.
No coffee, breakfast but beach front restaurant located next door.
- Brian (4/5): - This was my second visit and my last.
- Diana (10/5): - Staff was welcoming. Rooms had ample space. Unfortunately no toiletries compared to other hotels. Shower area was large yet shower head not great & water pressure nonexistent! Property area was lovely. Pool areas were upkept. Overall all barely met above average ratings.
- Adria (6/5): - This property is under renovation. The unrennovated portion is very rundown.
- Christopher (8/5): - The people were amazing. The Surf lessons that come with it made the whole stay worth it. My instructor Carlos was great to learn from. The hotel is nice but you can tell it needs a little bit touching up. Overall we loved the stay, we aren’t very picky
- T. (8/5): - Enjoyed access to the beach and surfing. Walkalble to Jaco. Rooms are clean and good, staff is friendly and helpful, pools are enjoyable.
- Randall (10/5): Quiet, hidden gem in busy Jaco. - This property is a hidden gem! It's a sprawling complex with several pools, and beautifully kept grounds. The rooms are a nice size with decent amenities. The hotel backs right onto the beach. You can easily walk to town and all the restaurants, shops and activities.
The only downside is that the structure has been allowed to deteriorate. Nothing is awful, but it feels like they haven't been doing building maintenance. If the staff would drop the lawnmowers and pick up a paintbrush one or two days a week, the place would be amazing.
- Kui (6/5): - The only reason for me to choose this hotel is because the location which has access to the beach, and can use the beach facilities, which is really nice. However, there is no wifi when I get to my room, wifi seems like only works around the reception cabin area which is really inconvenient, unless you have lots of raoming/cellular data.
- Darren (6/5): - It's an older property, beautiful area just needs to be updated. Rooms are old and beds are uncomfortable, pool areas are broken and rustic needs to be redone, no swimup bar and no restaurant on site, no coffee or tea.
Surfing was ok
- Josie (6/5): - Interesting place but not at all how it's described. The room, pool, and grounds were very nice, but the place has nothing at all to do with surfing. There are no lessons, and no surf boards to borrow (although if you walk 5 minutes south on the beach there is a terrific small business called Josi's that will rent them for $10 a day). It's almost like another resort took the place over but didn't replace the surfing branding, it's very odd. The beach is also pretty yucky, lots of trash and broken glass, but if you walk a few hundred feet south it's realy lovely. Other thing to know is that the restaurant is closed. This is the first place in Costa Rica we visted that didn't offer coffee in the morning which was kinda a bummer (we always like to wake up before the kids and enjoy a cup...) so you'll need to go to town for all your food and beverages. Overall it was just ok- if you're looking for a family surfing adventure this is not your place.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We stayed in Jaco one night (between La Fortuna and Manuel Antonio) because we had reservations for ATV, zip lining and canyoning outside of Jaco. This place was fine for one night, but we did not love it. The rooms feel very crowded (we had the family room for 5 of us) and small. The rooms are bare minimum at best. All restaurants and
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel is right on the beach and great if you want to learn surfing or watch waves coming in. The beach is just incredible. Hotel and room in general is minimalist. But location is right around Jaco beach town with ton of eating and other facilities. Parking was ample.
- Anne (2/5): - I picked this hotel based on location and although the room and bathroom was clean, the door was a push button lock and the back door had to sliding bolt locks you find in a toilet stall. After we got one too many hostile stares from patrons at the hotel, we decided to go to a different hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This property was dirty, showers don't work, bathrooms are dirty, the staff was not helpful, over all a bad place to stay in.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Grounds were very well maintained, clean and beautiful. Great to be on the beach! But our room #8 was very dark, which made it look dirty and old. lack of restaurants close by. With kids, need to walk 15 mins to get to town. It rained everyday and we couldn’t get a cab to come in to the resort as the reception closes at 5pm. They should leave essential numbers for cabs and food deliveries at the front desk which would have been useful after 5pm.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location location location. This place is close enough to downtown but far enough to have privacy and tranquility for the family.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Raoul and Tony the surf instructors are awesome!!!!! Really nice, helpful. The kids got so much out of their lessons.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The only thing I did not like were the mattresses which are old and cheap...you can feel all the springs but this seems to be a common ocurrence among all hotels in Jaco.
Other than that it was a pleasant stay!
- Roberto (4/5): A lot to improve. - No TV in the room, there was lack of water during two hours in the night. Hotel was crowded so wifi ceme and go, there was no constant internet service.
- Niki (2/5): Awful!!!! - The place is in need of extreme renovation, worse than any motel I’ve stayed at even though this was supposed to be a “resort”. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and our comforters smelled like urine, and there were cracks in the door letting mosquitos in and preventing us from sleeping both nights. The outdoor restaurant and bar was completely closed making it inconvenient to have to leave the hotel for any meal.
- Deisy (8/5): - Place was clean and has a beautiful location on the beach. Due to covid, there were no amenities. Look forward in staying here again when they are fully operational.
- Oleksandr (6/5): - Convenient location, great beach, no hot water in the room. Also, I booked this room because of the free surfing lesson, which was scheduled for 8:00am. I waited form 7:45 to 8:15 - nobody showed up. There was also nobody at the reception desk. Then, around 9:00am I was notified that they’ve rescheduled the lesson to 11:00am. I was long gone by then.
- chris (10/5): - dated rooms and facilities, excellent location, front desk was very helpful
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room i paid for was a king bed with ocean view and kitchenet. I got 2 queen bed a mini fridge and pool view. The beds are not confortable at all and they play music from 7:30am everyday tell 10pm. The resort is on a beautiful beach
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location, right at the beach. The food was good and not too pricey. Nice to have different pool areas. The AC in one of the 2 rooms we rented was very weak, staff came to check twice but they said that's all they could do.
- Ronald (10/5): Excellent resort for reasonable price - Amazing Beach resort with all the amenities. Clean rooms, friendly staff, great food and very nice looking. Great result, close to Jaco, great surf for beginners and clean Beach.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - They should be more staff at the bar ,especially during happy hour
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location on the beach. Kids loved the surf lessons and all got up. Lots to do in the area. Make sure to wear sunscreen.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We enjoyed the local of this resort its walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants and right on the beach. Beautiful sunset. Surf instructors were great and very knowledgeable, having the lessons included in the room cost was great.
Only disappointment was we booked and paid for a king size room with kitchenette (full size fridge and sink...) However when we checked in we did not receive this room and was took all the rooms were the same, however could see right in the windows of at these three other rooms that had full fridges and sinks and king beds. We weren't even offered to switch rooms when one came available and was disappointed to see these rooms more then once guests moved in and out of these rooms multiple times during our 10 night stay!! So don't pay the extra cost waste of money!! Breakfast wasnt great and the the egg station was only open for two out of ten breakfasts....
We would stay again but now we know.
- stxjohn (6/5): - Pros:
1. Location
2. Front desk staff.
Cons:
1. Wave's Restraurant staff
2. Room's need updating.
- David (8/5): - Rooms are not "state of the art", but we wanted someplace to travel with our dog, and it was great to be with it. Place is four steps from the beach
- Annette (4/5): - The grounds are very well maintained. The same attention to the outside was not given to the inside. Our rooms were extremely old and in dire need of remodeling. Walls are paper thin so we could hear everything being said in the rooms on either side of us, even with our TV on. Beds were extremely comfortable and the bathroom needed to be gutted and remodeled. There were only three electrical outlets in the entire room that accepted US plugs, which made charging cell phones a challenge. Doors leading to the outside were very flimsy with a gap at the bottom allowing for small lizards to crawl threw! Found two lizards in our pillows. For a family of 5, we did not have enough bath towels and there were no washclothes.
- Gurudu (10/5): - We liked how the whole place was setup and is much open layout rather than the confined hotels. We were happy to stay at this place and is very convenient. Good & very helpful staff. Only request is to make the lockers in the room as part of your overall price per room.
- Marilyn (10/5): - Beautiful site. Great staff and food. Very affordable
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good location, nice hotel, nice staff in general. We got a room with an Aircondition that does not cool the room. Front desk would not let us change room until I asked for manager. Same thing happened last time I was there. Finally I got a room with a good functioning Aircondition but after waiting and getting upset for no reason. Next day for breakfast the server was in a hurry for us to leave, she was taking plates before we finished. Sorry for negative feedback because I really like the hotel .
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The restaurant did not have a TV.. and the pool bar closes too early.
- FunDonny (8/5): - Was looking for a more unique property in Jaco with value in mind. Came across the Beach Break resort, which throws in a daily surfing lesson. I found the exterior of the buildings to be very bright and attractive. The interior of the room (or at least our Room 123) was a bit dated, but clean. Great place to use as a base to explore Manuel Antonio, and even further 3 hr plus trip to the Arenal volcano region in La Fortuna. Staff was cleaning the grounds constantly. Free breakfast was great to cut down on costs. Drinks and food to purchase at Waves bar was quite good, and fairly priced. Don't expect a "laying on a white sand beach (Jaco beach is dark sand and lots of rocks) being served drinks" -- and you won't be disappointed. Didn't want to do all-inclusive so this worked great as had flexibility to go into town and try different bars/restaurants. Our personal favorite, connected to the Selina hostel, was a short walk on the beach. Also a cool experience as took a surf lesson one morning with Michael, very patient in actually coaxing some actual surfing out of my 50 year old body!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to town and on the beach, I rented a car and hardly ever drove it and felt safe walking around with my kids even though some streets had little light. Food and drinks were great everywhere we went and staff was very helpful. Surf lessons were a blast and I plan on getting a surfboard now! Everyone takes CC and US cash but I recommend using local Colonies for best prices.
- Timothy (2/5): - Within an hour... we left. Don’t stay here. During the online booking process we were on the fence about staying here. We were attracted to the idea of surfing lessons right at the hotel and we can tolerate a tired building, so we decided to book 3 nights (one couple with two kids). When we arrived we found out this wasn’t a good idea... there was a silence that fell upon the family when we arrived (later to find out that we were each waiting for another to suggest we stay elsewhere). There are plenty of details in other reviews of concerns (if you want details) and it turns out they are accurate! Looking back at the advertised photos we understand how tactfully placed signs and flashy banners can improve the online impression. After we arrived and experienced the rooms, the common areas and the beach access, it was not a fit. So we had a huddle and started to work on finding another place to stay. The hotel staff was understanding and with the great help of Travelocity we were refunded for 2 of the 3 night stays. Although it was disappointing, and frustrating to have to find another place to stay, we were thankful to find something else that was comfortable for the next 3 nights.
- Ken (8/5): - A great place on Jaco Beach
- William (6/5): - "beachfront" room was not beachfront!! We paid extra, and booked our hotel based solely on the fact that it was the only "beachfront" room available. However, it was not beachfront at all! Very dissapointing!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This really is a 2 star hotel at best. Don't expect hot water for your showers
- Ashley (8/5): - Overall, our stay was nice. The beach was beautiful and location is good. Walking distance to restaurants downtown and we always felt safe there. Surf lessons at the resort were quite enjoyable, as well. The rooms and pool areas were clean and well kept. But the resort is just a bit tired and worn out.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location walking distance to Jaco Walk etc, nice clean facilities, beautiful pools and swim up bar. Excellent amenities with the 2 bars, pool tables, breakfast area, volleyball, surf lessons, the beach, the hammocks, etc. Great security, live guard at entry 24/7, beautiful grounds, landscaping, flowers. Friendly staff, great tour shop on property too that helped us coordinate our activities at a reasonable price. Overall Fantastic! Look forward to staying again!
- Michelle (8/5): Marxh - The hotel stay allowed for surf lessons. Great for the family truly loved Angela the surf instructor. The staff was pleasant and the bar food was good. The rooms were decent nothing spectacular. Due to the age of the property they had some small ants and issues with the pool.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - one of the nicest properties in the jaco area. the food could have been better and more variety.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is excellent and the staff were so helpful. I loved the location and free surf lesson was great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Surf lessons were incredible! The property is perfectly located close to the center of town but far enough to be quiet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location of the hotel and their price is the best. Prices of the restaurant are great too. Pool is nice but the only problem are the rooms that are outdated, besides that, I would highly recommend this hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect location - acceptable hotel - Hotel could use some upgrades, but clean enough and really overall quite acceptable - location to easy surfing wave could not be more ideal. Staff very friendly and attentive. Food is ok, a few gems, but they don't charge much for any of it. They didn't have my reservation when I arrived, so had to sweat it out in no A/C lobby for 90 mins while waiting for room to be ready. You definitely get what you pay for here though - pretty much what I expected for the price.
- Sergey (8/5): - Right next to the beach so very convenient.
Breakfast was great.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I liked that is by the beach. I did not like the poor maintenance of the place. It is very neglected and old. The curtains are see through from the outside and there was no hot water for one day as they had run out of propane. Later on the water was warm for a few minutes only and it was very uncomfortable taking showers with cold water.
- Thea (8/5): - The staff were so ind and thoughtful! Breakfast was fantastic and the surf shop was great. My kids had a fantastic time surfing with your team! The beds are really hard and could use a softer touch :)
- Jason (6/5): - Clean but dated. Nice staff. Jaco is a dumpy town
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved our stay at the hotel. the location was awesome, the pools were great and the staff was really helpful. we have a 1 year old and 4 year old and it was super kid friendly. I highly recommend the hotel and would stay there again.
- Charles (8/5): - Walking distance to beach! Room was clean and staff friendly.
- Claudia (10/5): - Great place. Nice prices for drinks and food at the hotel. Beach not so good. Great surfing classes.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Every body was real nice and helpful. Breakfast was great. Lunch and dinner buffets were good too and prices very decent. You can also order from menu anytime. All together was a very pleasent stay. Not the first time for me and not the last. I will be back.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The good: Very close to the beach, nice grounds, close to the town
The not so good: AC not great, blackouts almost every day, have to pay additional to use the room safe, not 24hr concierge, made a reservation for a shuttle as I had an early morning flight, even though I went to the concierge to confirm several times that the shuttle was booked, when I went to leave at 2am, there was no shuttle. The security was very helpful in assisting us to get a taxi
- Verified traveler (10/5): Mini vacation - Very nice hotel and location on beach. 4 swimming pools. Food at restaurant is good for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with very decent prices. Staff are very helpful and nice. Would come back again
- Patrick (8/5): Quiet spot - Nice staff... they were just a little far from places to eat.
- Erica (10/5): Beautiful safe clean hotel! We'd stay again - Perfect hotel for family! Our room was spacious and clean, had balcony overlooking the pool. We enjoyed drinks at the pool, spent time on the beach right on the property swimming and surfing in the waves! We took surf lessons right through the hotel which were great! There is also food (limited menu) on the property restaurant. We had a car and the main town was a 2 min drive to all the shops, restaurants, night life, and other activities. You may actually be able to walk along the beach right to it. Note that wifi was spotting in the room
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Most of the days we stay the pool was closed, no restaurant, no fridge at the room.
