• Mickael (9/5): Un séjour très agréable. - J’ai passé un excellent séjour dans cet hôtel. L’établissement est idéalement situé, à proximité immédiate des commerces, du tramway ainsi que de la JR Line, ce qui rend les déplacements très simples et agréables. L’hôtel offre un très beau standing avec des infrastructures modernes tout en conservant une véritable identité japonaise. J’ai particulièrement apprécié son ambiance raffinée, calme et traditionnelle, qui apporte beaucoup de charme et d’authenticité au séjour. Un énorme point positif pour l’espace spa et l’Onsen, qui étaient tout simplement exceptionnels. Ce fut un véritable moment de détente après les journées de visite, avec des installations impeccables et une atmosphère très apaisante. Enfin, un grand merci à tout le personnel de l’hôtel, toujours souriant, attentionné et aux petits soins tout au long du séjour. Leur gentillesse et leur sens du service ont largement contribué à rendre cette expérience encore plus agréable. Première chambre j’entendais fortement le bruit de la machinerie ascenseur mais après en avoir parlé avec le personnel de la réception, on m’a très rapidement attribué à une autre chambre… et la malheureusement c’est le petit frigo qui faisait beaucoup de bruit même au minimum. Cela reste tout de même un détail par rapport à toutes les qualités de cet hôtel.

• DEMIR (4/5): Fire the Asian staff and get real Japanese hospitality. - Great location and facilities The staff are not Japanese. They do not understand guests’ needs. They changed the places of several items. They also threw away creams that I still intended to use.

Plenty of free parking I could hear the lift motor from my room There was only 1 teabag despite me staying 2 nights. The room had a very faint smell of cigarette even though it was on a non smoking floor. Guests are required to drop there key off when ever they went out the hotel, Hot water came out of the cold tap as well in the bathroom sink

• Kelvin (9/5): Great Stay! - Onsen has a very atmosphere! Room is comfortable but a bit small for three of us though manageable. Staff were patient when i had some issues with the credit card. Breakfast spread was good and the sitting arrangement was good and not noisy! Nice sea food restaurant within walking distance. Ample car park space. I wish there is a clock in the onsen room, we enjoyed it so much we forgot about our time. I wish there was a spare key as we had different onsen timing!

• Jacob (8/5): Prima hotel - Het was even navragen of dit toch wel het hotel was. Het gebouw stond in de steigers en op de gevel stonden alleen japanse tekens. Maar binnen bleken we aan het juiste adres. Het kamertje was echt piepklein, bed op de grond, zitmogelijkheden ook op de grond. Badkamer ook klein, maar alles aanwezig. Personeel uiterst behulpzaam en vriendelik. In het restaurant hebben we 's-avonds lekker gegeten, ook het ontbijt was prima.

Room is a little small, but i think it is reasonable. there is public bathroom. if you experience Asian bathroom culture, you'd better stay here. It is located near Suizenji, Japanese garden, where is far from Kumamoto airport.

• peppercrab888 (8/5): Very good Japanese style tatami hotel with modern facilities - We generally do not like tatami style hotels- its all that having to get on and off the floor and not easily sitting upright with legs crossed or stretched out. But we read good reviews, cost reasonable, so decided to try it for 3 nights. We enjoyed/liked the hotel, despite still having to get up and down from the floor. PROS - modern ensuite ---separate WC room with own small basin ---separate vanity basin area with shelving, hairdryer, toiletries, etc. ---separate Japanese style bath area with short soaking tub; was nice to use the wooden bucket to pour hot water over your shoulders at shower area - very clean and well maintained - the bedding was not a thin matt but a rather thick futon type, quite comfortable - relatively large room- three of us and still had space to move around when the bedding was placed with luggage also on floor - breakfast was good buffet spread at very reasonable cost - free hotel parking in front and back- must leave car keys with front desk which is very common in Japan - nice common onsen (shared) within hotel which was usually empty - very good service from staff- took time and effort to find attractions and other things for us - operable windows for outside air, good also in colder weather to keep some items/food cold by leaving on ledge near open window - has lifts! CONS - yeap, getting up and down from/to floor - no wall hooks in ensuite to hang things- this seems very common even in the western style hotels in Japan - very small "wardrobe" area- mainly just 2 pockets/niches in the wall with very short hanging rods and a few hangers - one can easily miss the hotel when driving- no signage in English at entry All in all recommended especially if you are partial to modern tatami style hotels.
• silverspire (8/5): value for money! - i liked this hotel as it was clean, and offered good value for money. There's a very good sushi place just a stone's throw away from the hotel. i booked a japanese rooms so you sleep on futons laid out on the wooden floors.
• Aki_07 (8/5): Very Nice Hotel But Long Walk from Station - The Good: The beautiful dark wood and modern interior, cleanliness, onsen facilities and the Toraya seafood restaurant nearby, 300 metres from hotel. We had the best seafood there! Uni don with a lot a lot of very fresh uni and tuna sashimi don for only 3000 and 2500 yen!! The free toiletries are of good brand and refined. Very good service but front staff speak limited English. The Not So Good: Rooms are small and we couldn't put two luggages comfortably. Free green tea and no coffee. Wifi was good on level 5 but slow on level 6. Twenty minutes walk from Suizenji station (the nearest station) in the rain with luggage was no joke. Better take taxi - cost 660 yen only. To access the tram to go to castle and Shimotori, it's not that bad which it's about 12 minutes walk. We took half board the first day - dinner and breakfast were delicious but not wow. Suizenji park is a stone's throw away and definitely worth visiting on a good day. We left our luggage there and stayed in Takachiho for one night and returned here the second night. All in all, it was a very comfortable stay and value for money. Better if you drive or don't mind taking taxi.
• fayeeflyy (8/5): Lovely place! - This hotel is small but also cozy and modern. It's very affordable at about $150 per night for two with dinner and breakfast included. The onsen is very small and is indoors only, however it is seldom crowded. Overall it's a great place to stay with polite and helpful staff when in Kumamoto.
• Enjoydifference (6/5): Very professional and friendly service, disappointed with the room and bath - I stayed with them years ago before refurbishment. After the big earthquake I needed to go and stay in Kumamoto, I chose this place. The staff who I encounter, reception and catering, both were very professional and they were friendly at the same time. The room was designed for some purposes but I did not find it comfortable. Very disappointed with the bath. They should prepare instructions to Chinese visitors of how to take bath. I had to leave because they were so loud and wearing bath towels in the bath tub so felt very uncomfortable.
• JekYap (10/5): Best Morden Ryokan - Super service with immaculately clean and well equipped rooms makes Matsuya Bekkan the best ryokan I have stayed at in Japan. The staff will try their best to help you, ice pack when your aunt falls down prints out your last minute business documentation at 7:00am I the morning. And always with a smile.
• Enjoydifference (4/5): Very tired, awaiting for a refurbishment - It had its best days during the bubble period. Their public area and rooms are all tired. Very expensive for what I got. Never again until they refurbish the whole building.
